All-Time UGA Team help
« on: February 11, 2021, 02:54:24 PM »
If I can pick 3 QBs for an UGA All-time team, I'd take:
Aaron Murray
Matthew Stafford
Buck Belue
.
Correct me.

Fran Tarkenton instead of Buck Belue.

I would have Belue behind Shockley and Greene as well.

Great, thank you.
Now, I get 4 all-time UGA RBs......
Herschel Walker
Nick Chubb
Todd Gurley
Garrison Hearst.............easy, right?
.
But we also have Trippi and Sinkwich.  WHAT DO WE DO?!?

I want what Dawg fans want (I threw up in my mouth a little bit, typing that).
.
If you were controlling an all-time UGA team, who would you be upset was left off it (given 4 RB spots)?

I don't know how to think about players from decades ago.  They wouldn't be very good today in the main.

But if UGA was to have an all-century team, you'd expect certain players to be on it.  Who would it be stupid to leave off?

All century relative to their time or playing today?

If the former, I'd have Sinkwich HW Chubb Gurley.

I am very impressed with Chubb in the NFL.

Maybe I could do that and have Trippi as a defensive back for interceptions.  And just leave Hearst out.

Those stars of yesteryear probably would not make the team today.

I would guess the OL in 1942 averaged 210 pounds.

I saw one article that said OL weights increased 60 pounds from 1942 to 2011.  So, figure an OL would weigh 230-240.  The defensive linemen 220-230.  Herschel weighed 225.  Trippi weighed 185.

All American Guard Wayne Freeman just died. He played guard for Alabama's 1964 NC team at 185 pounds which was typical for an Alabama o lineman for the era

I would guess someone like Trippi may have played DB or safety in today's game, not running back.

He was a great athlete in the 40s and 50s.
