Just traveled to Northern California over the July 4 break, and stopped at Russian River Brewing Company.

Bought six bottles of Pliny the Elder and six of Blind Pig IPA to bring home... So those are my favorites (until I run out of them).

Currently on tap at Wrong Planet Brewing Co (my homebrew name) is a Rye IPA, Oktoberfestbier, Mint Milk Stout, 949 Blonde, and Blood Orange 949 Blonde.

there is a place near me.... like, within golf cart distance... that has received some awards for their selection of beers.  http://www.teaandbeer.com/ .... I've been trying to avoid that place, over the summer, but... It's about time i start putting together (on paper) my fall beer selection (notice the lower case 'f' in fall  :s_laugh: )....

anyway... they have an Irish Cream Stout there that is fantastic; and coupled with a decent pale ale and poured over a turtle?  uh-oh.... it's a meal replacement.

I was down in Old Mexico last week, and hit up a craft beer bar there in Playa del Carmen.  Their craft beer movement has been growing recently and, while it's nothing like the USA (or even most European countries), they have a decent enough heritage of brewing there (expecially Czech and German styles due to various waves of settlement over the years), that they were pretty good.

I tried a local saison and doppelbock that were both very good.  Don't recall their names, my brother took pictures on his phone though so we'd remember.

I buy Grolsch for my friends that are into home-brewing.  Those resealable flip-lids are a lot better for bottling, than capping normal bottles on your own.

Of course, the really smart home-brewers simply keg and avoid the hassle of bottling.

began drinking Grolsch in 1982 because it was tasty, but drank it quite a bit to procure the bottles with the great lids.  Superb for many uses.

Not my first rodeo at RR... Been there several times and had their full taster set, and have brought home sours in the past.

This time I actually was there for an early lunch, and ended up having an IPA and a Belgian Dubbel with the pizza, so no sours. I didn't particularly want to buy sours to bring home as I was already blowing out my budget on all the wine (and the case of Pliny/Blind Pig). The sours [bottled] are expensive...

That's cool.  I haven't had a chance to visit RR, just try some (bottles) while at places which have served in NoCal.   Every time I'm in the area lately it is always for biz, so don't ever have the time to head north to visit.

recall the ol' westerns when the bar keep would slide a brew down the bar to the fellers all slick like?

I'm trying to be slick here too when I slide this here thread over to the general section... I hate to do such a thing the the 12, and will be happy to reverse it and sling it back over here from there...

basically, I just want to see how that function works...

Indeed.  That is a marvelous beer.  Annoyed I have to pick it up when I'm Wisconsin to bring it back to Indy.

Don't think I ever posted in the old thread. To start off, I've only been into craft for maybe 5-6 years, so I'm not on the IPA hating train yet. Also, being summer, I'm drinking mostly IPA's right now and that's what is on top of mind.

So, top 3 IPA's right now:
1) Toppling Goliath King Sue (American Double)
2) Surly Todd the Axeman (American)
3) Tough pick between a bunch of solid IPA's. I'm a slave to the Citra hop, so I'll go w/Deschutes Fresh Squeezed.

In reality, all 3 slots are probably TG offerings, but that's too boring.

Top 3 Non-IPA's right now:
1) St. Bernardus ABT 12 (quad)
2) Weihenstephaner Korbinian (dopplebock)
3) Founders Dirty Bastard (scotch ale)
