AOC on 'Green New Deal'...
« on: February 07, 2019, 04:17:41 PM »
In what may be the most far-reaching proposal to ever be considered in Congress, Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, D-N.Y., unveiled her "Green New Deal"
"Green New Deal" on Thursday -- a government-led overhaul of virtually every aspect of American life that would guarantee a host of taxpayer-covered benefits for all and phase out fossil fuels.

Along the way, her office says the plan would aim to make air travel obsolete, upgrade or replace every building in America to ensure energy efficiency and give economic security even to those "unwilling" to work.

“Today is the day that we truly embark on a comprehensive agenda of economic, social and racial justice in the United States of America,” she said alongside Sen. Ed Markey, D-Mass., and other lawmakers outside the Capitol. “That’s what this agenda is all about.”

Republicans should all vote for it and declare victory.  And then get to work doing something real.

This is exactly how Venezuela and Cuba started.

Democratic Socialism (free stuff) to sell it to the masses......

........then quickly followed by a Communist Dictator.

This bill is nothing but a statement of some goals, nothing else.  Pass it and declare victory.

And this is not how Cuba got started along its path obviously.

You need a history lessen. Fidel Castro was a Democratic Socialist when leading the revolution and once he achieved power he 'nationalized' all the industry in Cuba and then set up a Communist Dictatorship. (you can still google it)

FIdel didn't bother getting some bill passed, obviously, which is what is being discussed here.  Fidel had clear communist leanings well before he assumed power.

Why should anyone legalize and legitimize such nonsense?

Fidel overthrew a Dictator in an armed revolution but with the promise of a Social Democracy. Time mag (the MSM of the day) called him the "Robin Hood of the Caribbean" because of his promised policies. Who knows if AOC has Communist leanings as well because she sure isn't shy about wanting to overthrow our Democracy and replace it.

Because the Republicans could eliminate it as a political issue.  They would claim victory, the Green New Deal bill was pass into law, we're done, thanks.
I know they won't do this, but it would be very clever in my opinion.

Well the Republicans could do the same thing by voting for socialized medicine and eliminate that as a political issue but I sure hope they're not that stupid.

Sounds almost exactly like the Paris Treaty.
Why be a member of something that costs money but achieves nothing?

And go on record as supporting and codifying the absurdity contained in it? Just, no.

The resolution cost no money and does nothing.  Best way to show that is to pass it.

This is a nothing resolution.

I would abstain.

When asked why, I’d say it wasn’t worth my time.  I am more interested in doing things that will be productive for the country and I’m not wasting my time on useless pontifications.

So if Republicans brought up a resolution that stated life begins at conception and advocated defunding Planned Parenthood, it would be good politics for Democrats to vote for it?

AOC’s 404 may be driven by a fit of pique — as The Hill noted today, “Pelosi names Dems to new climate panel — but not AOC.”

Why the snub? At Hot Air, Allahpundit kicks around some ideas and writes:

Quote
I prefer the second theory, though, not because it’s more plausible but because it’s more Machiavellian. In this theory, Pelosi does have the power to block AOC and her co-sponsors from going public, or at least from going public with the particular document they published — but she chooses to stand aside. She reads the part about “unwilling to work,” feels her eyes rolling nearly out of her head, but lets it proceed because she knows the only way the party’s going to be able to rein in Ocasio-Cortez is by letting her embarrass herself publicly for awhile. Pelosi might even relish having a far-left foil for the party’s eventual nominee next year: When Joe Biden or Kamala Harris or whoever is inevitably asked whether we need “economic security” for people “unwilling to work,” they can smirk and reply, “Er, no,” and then cite that fact as evidence of how moderate they are. That’s tricky business for a Democratic candidate since it risks alienating progressives by creating distance from AOC but it’s basic good politics in a general election.

I think she has hit to much sauce
President Harry S. Truman said: “The fundamental basis of this nation’s laws was given to Moses on the Mount.  The fundamental basis of our Bill of Rights comes from the teachings…  If we don't have the proper fundamental moral background, we will finally wind up with a totalitarian government which does not believe in rights for anybody except the state.”

Well once again our resident genius doesn't know what he's talking about.  It's a path to socialism to pass it into law and it WILL bankrupt the country

So where is all the money coming from to pay for those who don't want to work and all the new federal employees?  The tab has to be picked up by the taxpayers.

Next question is how will you get those new federal employees on the job when people don't have to work and still get paid.

snip:

Representatives Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D., N.Y.) and Ed Markey (D., Mass.) introduced a Green New Deal bill Thursday that, in addition to transitioning the U.S. entirely to renewable energy in ten years, promises to provide “economic security for those unable or unwilling to work.”

In addition to providing “economic security for those unable or unwilling to work,” the plan also promises to create “millions of good, high-wage jobs” for willing Americans. Many of those new federal employees would presumably assist in the 14 major clean-energy-infrastructure projects the plan calls for.

Can you point to a single thing in this bill that:

1.  Appropriates money for something?
2.  Raises taxes of any sort?
3.  Creates some new Federal department or program?
4.  Anything else that is substantive in any way?

I read it.  It's not long.  It is entirely a statement of various goals with zero enablement.

So, if it somehow magically passed, it would not change one solitary thing in the real world.  You could argue it might lead to something that would, but then vote that something down.  This is all moot as Republicans are not savvy enough to see the benefit in passing this.

I pointed out two things that's in it.  Those two things were pointed out by Pete Hegseth on FOX this morning so again looks like everyone else is wrong and Sheldon is right.
