Ticket Buying Question (Orange Bowl)
« on: December 18, 2018, 05:19:39 PM »
So I'm driving my in-law's van to Florida for them.  They are flying down with my wife and then she and I are flying back.  I'll be staying about 45 minutes from Hard Rock Stadium when the Orange Bowl (NC Semi-Final, Bama vs OU) is played on December 29.

I had absolutely no intention to go until I was looking at the bowl schedule on the worldwide leader's site and noticed that tickets to the Orange Bowl can presently be purchased for as little as $92 each.  Now I'm thinking about it.  So I have a few questions:

First:
Doesn't that seem REALLY cheap?  I've paid a LOT more than that for regular season games at Ohio State and a whole lot more than that for National Championship games.  This isn't a National Championship, but it is a semi-final.  It is a BIG game.  I expected tickets to be a lot more so I'm just looking for thoughts from the group.

Second:
I'm interested in going, but I wouldn't be devastated if I missed the game.  What do you more experienced ticket scalpers think about showing up an hour before kickoff and seeing what I can find?  If they are too much I'll be out parking and 90 minutes (round trip) of driving but I'll be back where we are staying for the second half.  OTOH, I've NEVER been good at scalping.  Every time I have an extra ticket to sell the going rate seems to be $0.18 and every time I need to buy one the going rate seems to be $Arm, Leg, 0.18.  In this case it would be lower-pressure because I'd be ok with missing the game but I'm still not sure.  Is that even worth it for what I could potentially save off of the current, $~90 ea price?

Third is a deeper question.  Is this a REALLY bad sign wrt to the bubble that we have long discussed on here or just something about THIS particular match-up.  I can see that.  Bama fans have been overloaded with GREAT games the past 5-10 years so maybe they are cool to the idea of travelling to THIS game and/or waiting for the NC against (presumably) Clemson.  Oklahoma fans know the reality, their team is a humongous underdog so why bother?

went to sugar bowl last year. we had some friends come without tickets and they found some pretty cheap right before game time. if you're gonna be near there anyway, might as well try it.

My sense is that the semifinals are soft tickets, particularly for repeat attendees.    Neutral site football sucks when you do the math to convince a team's fans to play 3 in a row.   Face value has got to be in the low 100s. Title game on title game is $375.

I'd go if i were you.  If you don't like scalping pick em up beforehand on electronic delivery. Lots of supply.   About 15% of capacity is posted on stubhub alone.  I bet some of that inventory is the Orange Bowl itself.  Id wait until after Christmas since you're not that committed.

I got Fiesta Bowl tix for $50 each, including fees.  Might as well.  I'll be sure to chant SEC-SEC-SEC for all you B10 board members.

I'd certainly chance it and scalp a ticket less than an hour before kick

probably get a good seat for $20 or less

I don't think that will happen, not a good seat anyway.    I bet high end zone can be had for well under 100 though.

Part of the trouble is a lot of fans can't afford to do a CCG, playoff game 1 and playoff game 2 all in one year. Not to mention that playoff game 2 is in Santa Clara ($$$$).

Also, with these teams (and Clemson too..), much of the rest of the country who cares about CFB has exposure fatigue. Same teams, different year.

Monday's game has a ton of seats well below face value .   Santa Clara a peculiar place for college football.
