SEC Fandom Happiness Scale
« on: November 26, 2018, 11:31:55 AM »
On a scale of 1-10, how happy are SEC fans right now with 2018?

My take:

Mizzou - solid 8, solid year, could have been better.
Kentucky - 7, great year really except for that puzzler in Kville
Vandy - 9, beat Tenn and qualified for a bowl game, didn't want Bama
South Carolina - 4, had higher expectations, lost in state rivalry
Tennessee - 4.5, a few signs of progress from 0-8 is good, still did not finish 12-0.
Florida - 6.5, improved, some signs of life, beat FSU badly, good record and high ranking, could be top ten
Georgia - 8.5, won the East as expected, one bad game, beat Florida, a bit of a challenge in the offing

Alabama - 1, yeah won the West as usual, but allowed a few points to be scored on the D
LSU - 6.5, pretty solid season, highish ranking, decent bowl game probable
Auburn 3 - lost to Tennessee, enough said.
A&M - 7.5, some closish losses, signs of progress out there
Miss State 6.5, finished ranked, not bad at all
Ole Miss 10.0, hey, we had the Grove and everyone had fun
Arkansas - 0.0.  Didn't expect much at all, but expected more than THAT.

Florida is more than 6.5, especially if you look at where other big-name guys signed to be HC.  Chip Kelly stunk, Frost stunk, and Taggert stunk.

Spanking Tennessee, beating LSU, competing with UGA, and spanking FSU will work.  The random losses to UK and Mizzou were somewhat offset by a pair of 18-point comeback wins.  With a bowl win, Florida is a top 8 team in year one of a new coach.

Can't complain about that.

Your average "SEC fan" may not be nearly that rational, but I agree 6.5 is probably too low.

7.5 for A&M is probably about right.

Were it not for blowing the Auburn game.... It would be higher.  That stupid loss probably kept us out of a NY6 bowl, though it would've been tough to top Florida's resume.  Still.... the LSU win salvaged a solid first year for Jimbo and gives the program some momentum to build on going into the bowl and into next season (which will likely be the toughest schedule A&M will have ever faced).

I’m with Shiner. We actually fielded a competent run defense, competed with almost everyone on the schedule, lost a few close games to good teams, and won a few close games against good teams. 7.5 is about right with an 8 in sight pending the bowl game.

Does Stidham’s early departure raise Auburn to 3.5??

Yeah.... not so much.

Won't hurt my feelings at all if OU beats Bama.

They don't get it.....nor do they care.
They post all this "Bama is the SEC" crap, ignoring the facts that the SEC has had a more diverse number of teams win the conference than anyone else.
The B10 is Ohio State's bitch.
The ACC is Clemson's bitch, and was FSU's before them.
The XII is Oklahoma's bitch.
And the PAC12 is the man with no face when USC sucks.

-------------------------------------------------

Here, let's see if I'm a liar or not:
Each P5 conference's last NC season:
SEC 2017
ACC 2016
B10 2014
XII  2005
PAC 2004......okay, now let's look at depth/variety:
-----------------------------------------------
Year for each P5 conference 2 NCs ago by 2 different winners:
ACC 2013
SEC 2010
XII  2000
B10 1997
PAC 1991
Big8 1990....hasn't existed in 24 years, PAC12 beats it by one year
-----------------------------------------------
3 NCs ago by 3 different winners:
SEC 2008
XII  1997
ACC 1990
Big8 1985
B10 1965.........Jesus Christ
PAC 1954
------------------------------------------------
4 NCs ago by 4 different winners:
SEC 2007
XII  n/a - didn't exist pre-1994
ACC 1953?
B10 1960 - Minne-freaking-sota
PAC  hahahahaha
-----------------------------------------------
5 NCs ago by 5 different winners:
SEC 1998
XII - no
Big8?
Hell, might as well trot out the SWC or Big East
B10...uhhh, Chicago maybe??
PAC....get real
-------------------------------------------------
6 NCs ago by 6 different winners
SEC 1980
the rest of the country - I don't know, ask Henry Ford or Hurry Up Yost

This is literally the worst trash they could talk, because it's the least valid.

The SEC has had 5 different schools win the national championship in the last 20 years, and for any other conference, current or defunct, you have to go back to pre-WWII.  Case closed.

Fans of teams elsewhere claim not to understand the "SEC!" chant etc., but they generally pull for their conference teams in OOC and bowl play just like most everyone else.

Of late, Bama has obviously been on an historic "roll".  It really has been a something, they rarely even get challenged, and when they do, it tends to be by another SEC team (which could mean they don't schedule OOC much).

Anyway, like most folks, I would prefer to see A&M or MSU win their bowl game, but don't care all that much.

Bama pretty much plays an annual neutral site game vs someone who is good or supposed to be good.  They're not exactly ducking anyone.

But the narrative that the SEC isn't that great is delusional.  B10 folks would poo-poo the SEC when it won the NC every year AND had by far the best recruiting classes AND the most NFL draft picks AND the best bowl record AND the most bowl slots......it's like they want to argue about it when they have none of the evidence on their side.

Eh, I no longer really engage in such a "debate".  Folks can think what they want.
