Title: CD's List of Annoying Lists
Post by: Cincydawg on June 05, 2019, 01:11:49 PM
10.  Any top ten list that starts out with whatever is tenth.
9.  Projected preseason AP football ratings.
8.  Lists of best defensive linemen, or whatever else, for next season yet to be played.
7.  Top 25 QB lists, before the season starts, starting with No. 25.
6.  List of odds to make the playoffs.  (OK, useful if you gamble I suppose.)
5.  Bowl pairing projections, any time before at least Week 11.
4.  List of best coaches in CFB (in reverse order).
3.  Lists of best defensive secondary coaches (in reverse order).
2.  Lists of best kickers (in reverse order).
1.  And finally, ultimately, lists designed to get you to click on a site just to see where your guy/team is on a list.

"See how gorgeous Sophia Loren (or whomever) is today."  You click on it and you get Meg Ryan, Margot Kidder, Joan Lunden, et. al., and eventually give up without having ever seen the one you wanted to see.

Yeah the clickbait slideshows are the worst.  There are ways to de-slide them though.

It's not a list, but in general I can't stand hearing people talking about betting lines with respect to sports.  I don't care.  I don't gamble on sports, and I don't care about the betting line. Don't talk to me about it, I don't want to hear it.

It's even worse when someone says "Coach XYZ is 13-2 against the spread when playing Top 25 teams.  And Coach XYZ is 8-7 straight up."  So Coach XYZ tends to lose closer than the betting spread, but is still losing almost as often as winning.  Personally, I don't give a rat's ass how my coach does against the spread.  Losing by 1 point is still losing, even if the stupid line was 3 points or something.  I can't stand hearing about the spread.

And I also don't want to hear about someone's gambling results for the weekend. "Wow, I want 4-2 on the weekend and I bet 70 units."  I don't care about your gambling success, I don't care about your units, and I don't care about what you're saying if you're talking about betting lines.

Talking about Fantasy Football fits within this category as well, but is even more stupid.  Nobody GAF about your fantasy football team, or how well you did last weekend, or last month, or last year.  Nobody.  Cares.  Stop.  Talking.  About. It.

Now get off my lawn.

any list compiled by an anonymous "survey"

We all understand that Internet sites rely on clicks.  This one does in part (click on Amazon to help).  A way to get clicks is to feature some article about how say Tennessee is going to win the SEC this season.  Tenn has a substantial fan base who will click and Bama fans will click with comedy in mind.

It's the off season, duh, so all this is understood.

Don't forget the list that requires that you scroll through it, milking 25 mouse clicks out of you instead of just one.

Another one.  Blech.  SEC.

Thought of another set of lists:

1.  Best uniforms, based on what?
2.  Best Cheerleaders.
3.  Best stadiums - based on what?
4.  Most intimidating stadiums - based on what?
5.  Best BBQ in the country
6.  Best mascots.  How many pay more than a second's attention to some mascot?
7.  Best game day traditions, yeah, this is a current list.  Whatever.

Folks click on these links to see where their team is and then complain about someone's arbitrary ranking of the arbitrary.  How could anyone rank BBQ anyway?  You can say you prefer A over B, if you have been to both.  And then someone else says "I didn't much care for A".  Someone else says C is the best.

Well, fine with me, I don't mind reccos at all, but if we've all been to A B and C then we can all have different opinions without being wrong.

Humans LOVE rankings for some reason.  "We" can't be happy just knowing that A and B and C are all pretty good and D is not really that great.  Don't get me started on wine rankings.  Blech.

But . . . but . . . they have committees!

A committee makes the rankings official!

I trust ELA more than a committee, he gives a great breakdown of course.

But yeah, committees.  Anyone who has worked for a while learned to love being on them.

I saw best and worst baseball uniforms earlier today.

The "bad" ones were truly bad.  But the hideous "Hawaiian sunset" unis of the ca. 1980 Houston Astros were ranked "the best."  And the shorts-and-big-lapels White Sox unis were ranked "very good."  Yuck!

I noticed that Top Ten Beaches changes every year quite a bit.  I figure somebody is "paying" to be on the list, or not.

Top 100 BBA places in the US is probably based on some Facebook poll or something akin to that just to get some names.  Some barely known but very good out of the way place wouldn't have a chance.  Then they might randomize the rankings a bit, or not.

Top 50 sports movies, which I just saw, obviously is just their opinion intended to get clicks.\

I noticed long back that Consumer Reports would give different ratings to cars like the Chevy Nova and Pontiac that was the same car for things like rust or suspension or whatever when there was no difference.  The engines were different.  There were a lot of parallel cars made during that period that would show up with rather different rankings.  It made me suspicious, then I read later about how they evaluate laundry detergents, it was a joke, very amateurish, which is to be expected of course.

I stopped paying CR any attention.

I was going to start with this list but the bucket list at home is no 1

Those hacks are carnival barkers for sure.Their shows use to litter TV programming every Sat/Sun morning. The one guy was caught telling half the people who called to take the Dogs and the other half to take the Chalk.Stu Feiner I think it was - real douche nozzle. What were you going do if you lost - sue them?Gambling is still basically illegal unless of course the state's getting a cut"Ya Louie some guy named Nubbz is on line 3 wants to know why our 10* All Galaxy,Out of This World can't lose Play of the Decade tanked."

The cheerleader lists are funny. I often see Buckeye fans bemoan the fact that they have "ugly" cheerleaders while USC and Oregon get to have "hot" cheerleaders.

In reality OSU would absolutely curb stomp USC and Oregon in any type of cheer competition. OSU rolls out a top five squad annually, while USC just stuffs hot girls into sweaters.

Now I know that guys don't particularly give a crap about cheer competitions of course, and most would rather just have a bunch of hot girls in sweaters instead of actually rolling out a competitive competition squad every year. But damn, that has got to get old. They work their ass off only to be told time and again that they are "worse cheerleaders" than the eye candy squads.

Lists of top 10 pizzas are the worst.

Hell, the Columbus metro alone has well over a hundred different pizza places. I doubt there are more than a dozen people in the area who have tried over 30 of them. The pizza ranker tasked with making the list might  have never even heard of the actual top ten pizzas in the area because they could all theoretically be mom and pop shops located clear across town from where they reside.

It's ludicrous really that anyone would even attempt to tackle such a list.
