Lot more than meets the eye in trying to makes sense of this Petersen Vs the State of ESPN.
First off, Petersen's complaints have been aired by a number of fellow Pac 12 coaches to recently include RichRod, Kyle Willingham, and David Shaw. The prickly difference with Petersen is that his history of uncooperativeness with TV media has aggravated broadcasters for years. He cold shoulders sideline reporters, bans media from grazing the locker room buffet even as he was once ordering janitors to box it up and throw it away, blows off day-before meetups that are a standard curtesy coaches give in providing material for in-game commentary, and once answered a newspaper interviewer's questions over the divide of a toilet stall.
But it's ESPN's doing that we have to make sense of what went wrong. It started with Kirk Herbs responding from his Gameday throne that the Pac 12 is lucky to get any bunk space whatsoever on his mothership. Then the whining continued with the actual UW broadcast. Rod Gilmore cried about Petersen blowing off another broadcaster's meeting. The broadcast displayed graphics showing the ratings according to kickoff times. And a sideline reporter mocked UW's non-conference schedule by lining up actual cupcakes on the turf, that were funny enoughly nicked from the locker room buffet.
