Is Auburn next?

Oklahoma has made a habit of scheduling its recent bowl opponents with recent scheduling announcements of home-and-home series with Alabama and Clemson. Now, the Sooners will play Georgia.

The Bulldogs, who last met the Sooners in the 2018 Rose Bowl, will travel to Norman in 2023 and Oklahoma will play at Georgia in 2031.

The 2023 game in Norman will mark the 100th anniversary of games played at the Owen Field site.

Georgia beat the Sooners 54-48 in double overtime in that Rose Bowl, which was part of the College Football Playoff.

That is the only meeting between the two marquee programs.

Oklahoma's last six bowl opponents have been Alabama (twice), Clemson (twice), Georgia and Auburn.

Notable future non-conference schedule:
2019: Houston, South Dakota, at UCLA
2020: Missouri State, Tennessee, at Army
2021: at Tulane, Western Carolina, Nebraska
2022: UTEP, at Nebraska
2023: Georgia
2024: Temple, at Tennessee, Tulane
2025: Michigan, at Temple
2026: at Michigan
2028: Temple
2029: Nebraska
2030: at Nebraska
2031: at Georgia
2032: Alabama
2033: at Alabama
2035: at Clemson
2036: Clemson

Maybe filling in the blanks for 2027 and 2031?

Does Nebraska have openings for those seasons?

2027 only game scheduled is at Tennessee on Sept. 11th, so probably only a home game available

2031 at Arizona, so probably only a home game available

That's inconvenient.

I should have said upthread "2034."  That--not 2031--is our second blank.

can't find anything past 2031, so I suppose we have an open date!

Maybe a neutral-site game in Kansas City in 2034.

I was wrong again upthread.  We are unofficially scheduled to play LSU at home in 2027 and away in 2028.  So the marquee games for those two years are taken.

I'd rather just go with home and home in 34 & 37

while tacking on 38 & 39

That would be fine with me, Fearless.

Good series.    We play LSU this year and next .     This is the type of games big time programs must play yearly anymore to get into the BCS playoff.

I frankly couldn't care less about a game that's gonna played in 2038.  How many of us will still be around?  And, isn't that when time hits full on 32-bit unix based systems?

But then again, if time stops in 2038, I suppose we Sooners should give the Huskers one last good licking to end the series on.

Probably so - and those end of the '20s decade games will be the expected angry big red response after the schoolin' that the Schooner and co will be administering to Herbie and crew in '21 and '22

When I was at OU in the '70s, it was still "Go, Big Red!" in Norman.  Nebraska was, to us, the Big Red of the North.  Not sure what happened or when to change that.  I retired from the Army in 1999, returned to the world where I could once again closely follow OU football, and found that nobody called us the Big Red anymore.  ~???

Not trying to seriously rebut your comments about games in 2038 (which seem to have been posted somewhat in jest), Fred, but I've got some thoughts about games that will take place after we are likely to be gone . . . .

There are people and institutions that we know will outlive us, yet while we are living we care about how things will go with them after we are gone.

Our children, for example.  I say this not having any children of my own, but having five now-grown stepkids.

For me, another case is the U.S. Army.  I care about how the Army will be doing in 2050.  I made my small contributions (I hope), and I hope that some of the people that I led, or helped to train/educate, have made theirs, and so on to the next generation.  And the next.

Obviously, I care what happens to the United States of America after I'm gone.

Much less important to me than the United States of America, yet still not unimportant, is OU football.  I hope that the Sooners are still going strong in 2038.  I hope that we are still associated with terms like "Premier," "Blueblood," CFB Royalty," and the like.  I hope we have added a national championship or two, or three, by that time.

Seeing our OOC scheduling for the next 15 years makes me think that the program is in good hands, that it is committed now and for the foreseeable future to pursuing excellence.

So, while I can't even know what tomorrow brings, much less the next decade or two, I am nevertheless happy that we will be playing Bama, and Georgia, and LSU, and Michigan, and Clemson.  And Nebraska.

Now I want to see a series scheduled with USC.  That awful NC game vs. the Men of Troy in the Orange Bowl still feels like two losses.

Well of course you’re right about all that C-dub. Well said in fact.

yup, while I was in college 81-84 it was still referred to as the battle of the Big Reds

Obviously the Huskers hung on to the title Big Red

not sure why that title didn't stick to the Sooners

Did it go away with the loss of the annual NU-OU game?  Not sure why NU would keep it and OU not, but once the NU-OU game no longer defined who was gonna win the conf title, maybe the desire to be "the" big red just kind of fell by the wayside, at least as far as OU was concerned.  Durn shame that.

Looking forward to the 2021 game, fifty years after the GOTC.  It's still quite a ways out and the tix will probably be hard to come by, but I'd love to find a way to get to that one.

Maybe OU dropped it out of embarrassment at the annual butt-kickings by the Huskers.

It seemed to slip in the late 80's early 90's

Huskers had a good short run 1981-1983 with Turner Gill at QB

then back to more Sooner "magic"

I will find a way.  I'm planning to be there.

I'm planning to be there too.

I'd love to see the '22 game in Lincoln as well.  I've never been to Nebraska, much less to Memorial Stadium.
