Appears several of the P5 schools; Alabama, UGA, Texas, and Oklahoma, among others are preparing for the inevitable 8 team CFP. Expecting SOS to be a major factor in selection of the at-large teams. Hopefully that will be as far out as they are scheduling.

I think UGA is just looking around for credible P5 opponents without regard to any 8 team playoff.

I'd like them to drop GaTech, but that is off the table.  I guess they can treat them like a G5 team in effect now.

Looks like we play GT at least until i'm 63.
That 2028 season is going to be brutal.
Heard a rumor UGA was looking at scheduling Oklahoma, as well, but nothing concrete yet.

According to an OU fan it is a split year series. Really, really split!

2023-Georgia
2031-@Georgia

Based on the following, I wouldn't bet against him being right.

"Per The Athletic, UGA is rumored to be in discussions for a home-and-home series with the Oklahoma Sooners that would begin in 2023. The final game of the series would reportedly take place sometime in the 2030’s."

Yeah, it illustrates by the neutral site games are a coming thing, they are easy to schedule.

Alabama is no longer looking to schedule neutral site games because of the inability of Orlando and Atlanta to schedule better opposition than Louisville and Duke. USC and Miami were already on the schedule.

2019 - Duke (Atlanta)
2020 - USC (Dallas)
2021 - Miami (Atlanta)
2022 - @ Texas
2023 - Texas
2024 -
2025 -
2026 - @ West VA
2027 - West VA
2028 - @ Notre Dame
2029 - Notre Dame
2030 -
2031 -
2032 - @ Oklahoma
2033 - Oklahoma

UGA has NS games against Oregon, Clemson, UVA, and maybe somebody else.  I think they can come up with worthy opponents.

Just those three. All in Atlanta in 2020, 2022, and 2024. It doesn't appear they are looking to schedule any more.

Smart has stated they are looking for more games in Atlanta.  I doubt we'd have any other "news" before games are announced, and most of their schedules are already filled if they sign with Oklahoma.

Smart is saying that, and Saban may be doing the same, but their scheduling is indicating otherwise.

Announcement from UGA and OU may be delayed because they are attempting to be matched in Atlanta and Dallas neutral site games in 2023 and 2031. Which is what they should do. Split year H/H scheduling is stupid.

Announcement has arrived, and it's home-and-home, in Norman in 2023 and Athens in 2031.
From OU's perspective, getting a big name coming to Norman in 2023 was the prime objective.  That's the centennial year of the use of what became Owen Field at Oklahoma Memorial Stadium.
I think that, in general, OU is not particularly interested in neutral-site OOC games.  We've only had one since vs. Army in 1961, and that was vs. BYU in JerryWorld in 2009.
We had an annual one with Texas before the formation of the Big 12.  That game is still annual and neutral-site, but we're in the same conference now.  If we ever ended up in different conferences, we might go back to the way it was before.  Other than that possibility, I just don't think OU is interested.

Everything I read says NS games are BIG payouts for both teams, versus the alternatives.  They are also easier to schedule, one and done.

UGA has one "open year" left for a long time (2021) where they don't have two P5 OOC opponents, and I'd guess they wind up in ATL.  In 2028 and 2029 they play Clemson, Texas/FSU, and GaTech OOC.

2028
  • 09/02 – at Texas
  • 09/16 – Florida State
  • 11/25 – Georgia Tech
2029
  • 09/01 – Texas
  • 09/15 – at Clemson
  • 11/24 – at Georgia Tech
The local merchants in the college town don't appreciate neutral-site games at all.  For the local economy, 50% of a home-and-home series is better than 0% of a n-s game.

So that means in '27-'28, FSU is playing Florida and Georgia OOC.
