Title: September 30: Rivulet of Forgotten Dreams
Post by: MaximumSam on September 30, 2017, 07:07:56 AM
USC already went down last night, and the Wazzus are thick in the race now.  I'm going down to southern Ohio for a sorghum festival and will spend the night with my folks.  Probably won't have much internet access for a while, but if I can't post just remember that Michigan sucks.

Nothing like kicking it off with a state car inspection and kids swimming lessons.

Last week at the markets was much better, but I'll take this Saturday's high of 65 over the 90 degree crap we had last weekend.

55 with a big East wind off The Lake this morning. The market beckons, but I already have a big ole proper keg o' chili waiting in the wings. Ground short ribs, cubed skirt steak and cubed NY strips were the meats of choice for this batch.

And of course, ESPN is out on the Direct TV feed this morning. Just happens to be the only channel that is not working.

Ugh. I guess I'll be smarter later, without those knuckleheads polluting my senses.

Headed to a wine tasting event at 1 PM today but will be back for the afternoon games.  My buddy who usually comes over for the games has a bunch of stuff going on with his wife, he's not real happy.  Happy wife ...

He's a hard core Ohio State fan but now also likes the Dawgs.

I'm VERY worried about our game today.  The result I think will point to whether these are the "same ol' Dawgs" or something major has changed in Athens (aside from getting a new IPF).

My favorite wine rep is doing the tasting so I felt I should go to that.  My wife is out of the country and I'm trying to figure out how the dishes get out of the dishwasher and up to the shelves.  I gave up trying to find the button that makes the bed and folds all the laundry.  I usually put dirty clothes in the hamper in the bathroom and they return folded and ironed to my closet, but that isn't happening for some reason.

Yeah, 90s would be our seasonal average.  That we're in the low-mid 80s is definitely unseasonable for us right now, but I'll take it!
Today's slate looks sort of boring, what games are folks interested in?

Might want to check the rules.
Granted, it would ruin your weekly whining about the anti-Maryland ref bias.  Although on back to back plays they picked up a targeting call, and then called Minnesota for a pick play, two correct calls, but two things you almost never see.  But proceed.  I can't imagine you are going to stop now.

Didn't realize Vandy's QB is an MSU legacy, former MSU QB and current NFL assistant Pat Shurmur's son.

He was a 4* kid, #7 pro style QB in the country, out of the Philly area, and it appears we didn't recruit him at all.

We took Lewerke, which seems to be working fine, but after our 2014 QB bailed last minute (and last I heard was like a backup TE at VT now or something), the plan I thought was to take two in 2015, but Jehuu Campbell got himself arrested, and his offer pulled.

Number 10 was on his way to tackle while the quarterback was on his way to slide.
I've seen quarterbacks fake a slide and then take off for more yardage.

Bonus points for use of the word "rivulet".

Excellent.

You can't win in CFB without a decent QB, and you can't win often without a good QB.

I picked PSU to be pretty good after I saw them 2 years ago against UGA with McSorley coming in at QB.

Never thought I'd see an MSU-Iowa game where both teams look this bad running the ball

And also Iowa has a terrible punter.  MSU can't keep squandering these chances.

Back to back drives starting in Iowa territory and only 3 points.

That's a win  for Iowa's defense.

Another potential game changing play

Some Big Ten teams are allowed to screw with the OL all the time.

MSU letting Iowa hang around for way too long.  2nd and 1 and get stuffed three straight times on RB up the middle without trying a QB sneak.

Wake gave up a 40 yard TD pass with 1:40 left and still has 3 timeouts. Other than a TO or FG shank probably the best case scenario for them.

EDIT actually 50 sec left

Sorry, but if the players are reflection of their coach, Scott Frost is an a-hole.

Two years in a row they targeted our quarterback knowing that was a weakness.

This year one of his players came over and pushed Durkin on our side line.

He's a hot head and a crappy coach who apparently teaches his players to hit below the belt.

Best of luck to them, but he can stay right where he is. If he did go to Nebraska, there'd be a petition to not play Nebraska ever.

Asking a player to take a knee when the end zone beckons is hard, when he's a freshman, it's impossible.

Go ahead and score.

So did Wisconsin basically clinch the West yesterday?

The 2nd and 3rd best teams in the West just lost to the 5th and 6th best teams in the East.  And they beat the 4th best team head to head.

Would take a lot of craziness for Wisconsin not to win it, and it's October 1

THIS DAY IN HISTORY

The Thrilla in Manila (1975)

Frequently rated among the greatest boxing matches of all time, the Thrilla in Manila saw world heavyweight boxing champion Muhammad Ali meet rival Joe Frazier for the third—and final—time. Leading up to the match, Ali had publicly taunted Frazier, calling him a "gorilla." Because many believed Frazier to be past his prime, Ali—though older—was expected to win. However, the fight went on for 14 brutal rounds in the sweltering Manila heat, and neither man was able to knock out the other.
