USC already went down last night, and the Wazzus are thick in the race now. I'm going down to southern Ohio for a sorghum festival and will spend the night with my folks. Probably won't have much internet access for a while, but if I can't post just remember that Michigan sucks.

I remember

but if I can't post just remember that Michigan sucks.
Truth!Sometimes in this busy, hectic life we lose sight of what's important
-
It's important to keep hold of our proudest traditions. It's what separates us from the rest of the animals
-
Nothing like kicking it off with a state car inspection and kids swimming lessons.
Last week at the markets was much better, but I'll take this Saturday's high of 65 over the 90 degree crap we had last weekend.
-
55 with a big East wind off The Lake this morning. The market beckons, but I already have a big ole proper keg o' chili waiting in the wings. Ground short ribs, cubed skirt steak and cubed NY strips were the meats of choice for this batch.
And of course, ESPN is out on the Direct TV feed this morning. Just happens to be the only channel that is not working.
Ugh. I guess I'll be smarter later, without those knuckleheads polluting my senses.

Headed to a wine tasting event at 1 PM today but will be back for the afternoon games. My buddy who usually comes over for the games has a bunch of stuff going on with his wife, he's not real happy. Happy wife ...
He's a hard core Ohio State fan but now also likes the Dawgs.
I'm VERY worried about our game today. The result I think will point to whether these are the "same ol' Dawgs" or something major has changed in Athens (aside from getting a new IPF).
My favorite wine rep is doing the tasting so I felt I should go to that. My wife is out of the country and I'm trying to figure out how the dishes get out of the dishwasher and up to the shelves. I gave up trying to find the button that makes the bed and folds all the laundry. I usually put dirty clothes in the hamper in the bathroom and they return folded and ironed to my closet, but that isn't happening for some reason.
-
My wife and I are building a home, and the digging starts Monday. We went over there w the builder this morning to review. Looking forward to it.
-
70 and sunny here this morning, got out for a great 5-mile run.
Gonna have a high of 84 degrees. Brrrrrr, time to bust out my winter clothes. :)
-
almost Octoberfest time in Texas
-
FoxSports did another Iowa wave story. It again got dusty while I was watching. Bless that for all the things, not the least of which is reminding me I'm a sap.
-
Knocked out 6-plus miles in morning after staying up to watch Washington State. Found a pretty spot to run too. Feeling good.
-
mostly cloudy, breezy, and 70 degrees here on the golf course this afternoon
Friday nights games are good for saturday afternoon golf - if you are staying positive
-

We've had like 9 straight days of 90deg with humidity to match in NE Ohio.Love the cooler fall temps blowing in from the north - fresh air, blue skies & white clouds.Autumn has arrived

Knocked out 6 cups of coffee this morning after staying up to watch Wazzou/USC
-
gotta quit after two cups of coffee, doesn't go well with the golf swing
a couple 20 oz schooners of tap beer will hopefully offset the caffeine
then a 6-er of bud fat cans on the first tee
-
Is this website making a bunch of annoying clank and whistle noises for anyone else?
How do you turn that obnoxiousness off?

Yeah, 90s would be our seasonal average. That we're in the low-mid 80s is definitely unseasonable for us right now, but I'll take it!
Today's slate looks sort of boring, what games are folks interested in?
-
Wildcats & UW teeing it up.Maybe IU-PSU & VTech vs Clemson later.stayed up for the late nite Wazzou-USC scrum
-
wow - what a start
TO on 1st play of game
'Cats ball deep in Wiscy territory!

Me. Cursing.

FG is good
NU 3
Wisc 0

check your "alerts" settings
-
btw, go Terps!
-
Cursing less.
-
FG is good
NU 3
Wisc 0
Allison Williams on the sideline
-
Wisconsin might want to try holding onto the ball
-
MORE CURSING!
-
Watching left handed QBs is always disconcerting
-
Seems like the students in Madison are later than usual
-
I like how the commentator pointed out UW was killing it on third down, even though the third-down wizard isn't playing today.
-
wisc rushing TD
NU 3
Wisc 7
-
JTT is a fine, fine runner
-
my gawd these uniforms. I can't tell which team is Louisville and which team is Arizona in the NCST-Syracuse game.
-
This option look from Northwestern...
-
This option look from Northwestern...
It's a feisty play.
UW's defense just did and unreal job on third down. Sent pressure, turned and chased the screen down.
-
'Cats miraculously getting into the backfield
NU INT near midfield
let's just try to hang around and make the 4th quarter interesting
-
Badgers QB hurt. Crud.
-
dammit - 3 and out after that great field position
-
NU defense looking decent today - I like it!
-
Did Florida-Vandy hit the O/U with 6 minutes left in the 1st half?
I can't imagine it was much higher than 28
-
TD pass 'Cats!
NU 10
Wisc 7
-
I've seen more missed tackles by the gophers today than the Vikings, which is saying something.
-
NU INT
-
don't understand the throws ... milk the clock before halftime
see? dammit. 3 and out. badgers get the ball right back with virtually no time taken off the clock
-
Did I mention I hated UW-NW games? Becuase I do.
-
For those of you keeping score at home, that's the third kickoff out of bounds of the half.
-
Wisconsin ball security today makes MSU's look good
-
So, what in the hell was the side judge looking at to miss that obvious fumble?
-
phew .... that looked like PI to me ... we may have dodged a bullet there
-
at halftime:
NU 10
Wisconsin 7
go 'Cats!
-
6 sec left at midfield. Minny lined up 3 safeties in the endzone. So MD ran it for 20, slid w. 2 sec left and then kicked a 51 yarder.
-

Tennessee got ripped for doing the opposite with I think 9 seconds left.

That kick looked terrible from my seats, but it got the job done.
I thought for sure the clock ran out, was it legit?
-
Houston just ran about the worst blitz I've ever seen, a delayed safety blitz from a safety play about 15 yards off the line of scrimmage.
-
ugh - wiscy marches down the field easily for the TD
NU 10
Wisc 14
-
now reality hitting us ... Wiscy in control of this game
-
Considering Wisconsin was handing them the ball left and right, and Hornibrook was playing like and Wisconsin was still only down 3, you knew it was going to swing big time if that stopped.
-
Don't worry Minny.
Stripes have your back all day long.
-
This game ain't gonna win any Academy Awards. Gophs catch a break on the illegal formation penalty.
-
Also, have I mentioned that I despise running out of the shotgun on 2nd and 1?
-
This game ain't gonna win any Academy Awards. Gophs catch a break on the illegal formation penalty.
They caught a break with the refs standing over the ball until our play clock got to 3 seconds at the goalline too.
Stripes are calling a whale of a game today.
-
I'd say Northwestern's OL looks bad, but it seems like Thorson is doing a terrible job identifying the blitzer.
-
Also Winfield Jr has been out since early in the 2nd
-
Jake Funk broke Maryland State records in high school football, and these announcers are surprised that he gets the ball.
-
Welcome to the Big Ten, PJ. Time to learn that running nothing but inside zone read is not going to cut it.
-
Wow, they actually got a targeting call right. Wasn't targeting, the late hit was a good call, and stands.
-
If the NFL refs actually correctly called those pick plays, Manning and Brady's careers would have ended 15 years ago.
-
Wow, what a catch, after Rhoda nearly blew the sure TD.
-
Wow, they actually got a targeting call right. Wasn't targeting, the late hit was a good call, and stands.
Late hit? He wasn't down yet.
Maybe QB's should just wear yellow jerseys.
-
These slow starts for UW are gonna come back to bite eventually. Can't come out of the tunnel sleep walking to start games, boys.
-
Late hit? He wasn't down yet.
Maybe QB's should just wear yellow jerseys.
Might want to check the rules.
Granted, it would ruin your weekly whining about the anti-Maryland ref bias. Although on back to back plays they picked up a targeting call, and then called Minnesota for a pick play, two correct calls, but two things you almost never see. But proceed. I can't imagine you are going to stop now.
-
Didn't realize Vandy's QB is an MSU legacy, former MSU QB and current NFL assistant Pat Shurmur's son.
He was a 4* kid, #7 pro style QB in the country, out of the Philly area, and it appears we didn't recruit him at all.
We took Lewerke, which seems to be working fine, but after our 2014 QB bailed last minute (and last I heard was like a backup TE at VT now or something), the plan I thought was to take two in 2015, but Jehuu Campbell got himself arrested, and his offer pulled.

Personal attacks as usual.
-
getting interesting in madison
NU 24
Wisc 31
-
NU with a big rally going. Down 7 with an onside kick coming.
Man, I wish PC would keep his foot on the gas in these games.
-
Personal attacks as usual.
Not at all. You weekly post about how anti-Maryland the Big Ten refs are in all sports. Nothing personal there. That's simply a fact. I'm generally pretty down on MSU's chances, and have been called out as such. Nothing personal there either, just an obvious posting history.
-
Mr. Big Play with the death blow.
Minnesota's defense let them down in a big way today.
-
Cursing and swearing, cursing and swearing, cursing and swearing
-
Can we leave Maryland out of our Power Rankings this week. I have no idea how to rank them. They might be the 5th best team in the conference. They might be like 11th. They probably are both.
-
here's the game right here for NU. need a stop
-

Number 10 was on his way to tackle while the quarterback was on his way to slide.
I've seen quarterbacks fake a slide and then take off for more yardage.
So he wasn't down yet.
-
sweet. at least we get the ball back
-
Maryland's 3rd string QB had a really good game today.
-
The Twin Cities media is sharpening the knives...
-
Nice punt.
-
need to go 99 yards ... ugh
btw, is it goofy that I'm kinda happy that we're the first team to score on Wiscy in a 2nd half? :P
-
Yes sir.
-
throw the ball away ............ $hit!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
-
good game, badgers
-
Florida's RB scores instead of taking a knee, keeping life in Vandy.
-
Just saw this. Damn.
RIP Joe Tiller. Too young.
-
So much for a PSU letdown game.
-
This might be the worst special teams performance ever courtesy of Indiana.
-
Man, Tennessee does not look like a good football team at all.
-
Well these two teams are pretty evenly matched...
-
Iowa looking like the team with a hangover today.
-
Tre Person missed tackle on third down, Iowa drive continues for 6. Big swing play
-
ASU has no answer for Bryce Love, because there is no answer for Bryce Love.
-
Bonus points for use of the word "rivulet".
Excellent.
You can't win in CFB without a decent QB, and you can't win often without a good QB.
I picked PSU to be pretty good after I saw them 2 years ago against UGA with McSorley coming in at QB.
-
Never thought I'd see an MSU-Iowa game where both teams look this bad running the ball
-
And also Iowa has a terrible punter. MSU can't keep squandering these chances.
-
Back to back drives starting in Iowa territory and only 3 points.
That's a win for Iowa's defense.
-
With 5 seconds left why not try a hail Mary?
-
What offense Iowa does get is all 3rd down.
Another potential game changing play
-
You have to call a timeout there. Huge 4th down conversion.
-
Wow, now that's a lucky bounce.
-
Lol @ iowa's QB....wtf
-
That's a 2* true freshman WR we flipped from FIU on Signing Day.
Not too shabby
-
Congratulations to Maryland. I suppose a few of youse guys noticed the score coming out of Knoxville right now.
I expected a tough, close game.
-
Spot looks right to me.
-
How does Iowa get called there?
Some Big Ten teams are allowed to screw with the OL all the time.
-
MSU letting Iowa hang around for way too long. 2nd and 1 and get stuffed three straight times on RB up the middle without trying a QB sneak.
-
Congratulations to Maryland. I suppose a few of youse guys noticed the score coming out of Knoxville right now.
I expected a tough, close game.
Ya didn't see that coming with a 3rd string QB on the road
-
Sparty gets the bouncy ball - big turn over
-
No problem moving the ball on our side of the field, then it totally bogs down.
-
Wake gave up a 40 yard TD pass with 1:40 left and still has 3 timeouts. Other than a TO or FG shank probably the best case scenario for them.
EDIT actually 50 sec left
-
Bryce Love has 1000 yards on 87 carries
-
Crap. No Dre'mont Jones starting at defensive tackle for the Buckeyes tonight- leg injury. The most consistent run stopper so far this year.
-
MSU's QB looks crisp.
-
No problem moving the ball on our side of the field, then it totally bogs down.
Every time.
Has Iowa stopped MSU short of midfield yet this game? Yet, 17 points.
-

13 carries???? I guess that's how you lose to SDSU.
Love finished this game the ASU game with 306 yards.
-
There hasn't been a single notable upset today.
No unranked teams over ranked teams. No G5 over P5. No FCS over FBS. Nothing.
-
That's a play not to lose.
Shows you where the staffs confidence in Lewerke is
-
Mucho props to the defense. Best game they've played since...last game against Iowa in the CCG
-

EMU came close. Troy is winning.
-
Matt Canada's offense isn't so hot when your players suck.
-
Marshall is eating Cincinnati's lunch.
-
Bosa might be better than his brother
-
UCF's defense is fun to watch Nebraska fans.
-
UCF's defense is fun to watch Nebraska fans.
Other than Ohio, Nebraska fans love to watch themselves some UCF football.
-
Troy on the move again. I seem to recall them blowing a 20+ lead at LSU before. A TD here would be huge.
-
Other than Ohio, Nebraska fans love to watch themselves some UCF football.
Pull the trigger!
-
Orgeron's buyout is 12M.
-
LSU suddenly worldbeaters. Quick TD drive. Now down 10 with 7:42.
-
Seems early for an onside kick.
-
Maybe, and I know they just marched for a TD, but this LSU offense is...challenged.
-
Wow, Death Valley empty
-
Oh Troy :73:
-
These types of games, always present the moment where the underdog is crapping their pants. That was one of those moments.
-
Troy gifted 5 seconds there.
-
So Troy is putting a guy behind the punter?
-
Troy is in full on shit pants mode. May be incomplete though.
-
Troy busts that 49 OOC home win streak.
-
Atta Troy.
-
I think tonight was the bow on the Mississippi State isn't that good, and beating LSU was meaningless realization
-
Sorry, but if the players are reflection of their coach, Scott Frost is an a-hole.
Two years in a row they targeted our quarterback knowing that was a weakness.
This year one of his players came over and pushed Durkin on our side line.
He's a hot head and a crappy coach who apparently teaches his players to hit below the belt.
Best of luck to them, but he can stay right where he is. If he did go to Nebraska, there'd be a petition to not play Nebraska ever.
-
every school that employed Ed Orgeron last 22 years lost or is losing this weekend: LSU, USC, Tennessee, Ole Miss, Syracuse
-
I'm starting to think that OSU has this one.
-
Rutgers isn't very competitive in these BTN night slots are they?
-
XII with a nice game tonight. Gus at the mic.
-
Texas Tech is basically in the same position Iowa was, and it feels entirely different.
-
Florida's RB scores instead of taking a knee, keeping life in Vandy.
No....you have the chance to go up 2 scores, you go up 2 scores. Crazy shit can happen after that, but you're up 2 scores.
-
Asking a player to take a knee when the end zone beckons is hard, when he's a freshman, it's impossible.
Go ahead and score.
-
So where would Troy be ranked if they were in the SEC?
-
So where would Troy be ranked if they were in the SEC?
Fifth or sixth.
-
Rutgers isn't very competitive in these BTN night slots are they?
Rutgers needs a TV ban with their probation.
-
So did Wisconsin basically clinch the West yesterday?
The 2nd and 3rd best teams in the West just lost to the 5th and 6th best teams in the East. And they beat the 4th best team head to head.
Would take a lot of craziness for Wisconsin not to win it, and it's October 1

Purdue still worries me. Nebraska's schedule makes a run difficult, setting aside the struggles.
-
ALL of the road games concern me. Road games are hard. Some tough home ones left too. Iowa is always a blood bath and Michigan should be pretty tough too.
-
Nobody has clinched squat until Medina says so.

fixed

THIS DAY IN HISTORY
The Thrilla in Manila (1975)
Frequently rated among the greatest boxing matches of all time, the Thrilla in Manila saw world heavyweight boxing champion Muhammad Ali meet rival Joe Frazier for the third—and final—time. Leading up to the match, Ali had publicly taunted Frazier, calling him a "gorilla." Because many believed Frazier to be past his prime, Ali—though older—was expected to win. However, the fight went on for 14 brutal rounds in the sweltering Manila heat, and neither man was able to knock out the other.

road night game in Lincoln this week
Huskers haven't been impressive, but the old ball coach has significant motivation the remainder of the season
