Title: Texas at Iowa State
Post by: TexasFan on September 29, 2017, 03:59:47 PM
Its been a long time since I can remember a Texas win on ESPN.   No way should we ever lose to Iowa State.   KSU is up next in Austin.

They give scholarships at Iowa State, too. With those two WRs, their RB, and a developing defensive line, I'm thinking they'll win more games than they lose.

All the intangibles were against Texas last night. Basketball season hasn't started yet, and the campus had nothing better to do than show up and yell at a Texas team decidedly not at top form. ISU usually excels at these games (I think they're like 10-4 in Thursday night games).

The ISU QB failed his team mentally. He was thrown off his game by the Texas D. He wanted a big game, got caught up in the moment, and ended up determining that he was going to make something happen. He couldn't get comfortable, step into throws, or play the game properly. Instead, he panicked and cost his team downs (and sometimes the ball). In a game where possession was crucial, Texas dominated 40:20.

Obviously, I want Texas to get to the point where they can pick up 5 defenders, give the QB time to throw, and exploit a defense with multiple looks. Perhaps they were almost there before injuries, but with all the players out, the offense is decidedly not there. Since there's no collegiate waiver wire, this is just going to be something the Texas offense works through.

I agree about the time of possession.  Being able to run the clock and run it out in the fourth quarter was key.   It also seems as if we are going to force a run game no matter what.  It worked last night.
