Newport is pretty nice. Balboa Island is a cool place to check out.
I like this place to eat and drink.

If you have time, Balboa Island is a nice little walking area... You can walk around the perimeter of the entire island in probably less than an hour, see all the rich peoples' homes, etc.
That said, the main drag on Balboa Island has a handful of little shops and a few restaurants, but that's really it. There's really not a great deal to see.
If you were in town longer, it'd be something to check out. But for such a short trip, I'd definitely skip it.

That brewery on the island is the OC home for the UW alumni watch parties. :)

That's on the Balboa Peninsula, not Balboa Island... Newport Beach Brewing Company. I actually sent that over to MarqHusker as I've been there on a Saturday to watch the Purdue/Indiana game one year and was surrounded by a sea of red... But thankfully it was Badger Red instead of Hoosier Red (though being colorblind I can't tell the difference lol).

Hopefully that's not a problem when you're cooking a vat
