Generation Kill, a mini-series by HBO is perhaps the best 'realistic' depiction of combat and the comrade of Marine's ever made.  The Rolling Stone reporter embedded with 1st Recon, known as 'rolling stone' in the series if you can believe it, did a great job, truly, of capturing the way Marine's interact. 

in the scene below, it hits home for many who've been there- and yes, this type of 'leadership' exists.  not that commonly, thank the gods, but it does.  it's comical while sitting at home in front of a nice warm fire and sipping on a neat Mr. Beam... it's not so much when it happens for real.
