Title: Players leaving/Holes to fill for 2019
Post by: OrangeAfroMan on January 02, 2019, 04:53:27 PM
Boy, we're getting hurt by early NFL kids leaving......
DB Gardner-Johnson #23
RT Taylor #65
RB Scarlett #25
LB Joseph #11
DE Polite #99

Add to that the seniors leaving, next year will be tough.  I'll do a deeper dive later.

Deandre Baker is gone of course.  Gailliard at center is graduating.  Both will be rather high draft picks.

Holyfield might leave early, but there are kids waiting their turn behind him, good as he is.

Yeah, so for Florida, the good news is we only have 9 seniors leaving...but 3 of them are on the OL.  With JR Taylor leaving early, we're only getting our center back for next year.  That will wreak havoc on our offense.  Ugh.
We lose our 2 top TEs, 4 OL, and 1 RB from the offense.
On defense, we lose an OLB Jefferson and JR DE Polite, JR LB Joseph, and JR DB Gardner-Johnson.
The good news is our DTs and DBs are all young and we'll be TIGHT vs the pass next year.  We'll get CB Marco Wilson back from injury.

I hate that we might take a step back next year on offense, despite QBs, a good RB, and all our WRs returning due to a gutted OL.

Oh, and no one can say anything about our schedule, we're starting off with Miami in Orlando and finishing with FSU.  Florida is not taking it easy (Michigan last year) on OOC scheduling anymore.

Miami and FSU should be easy wins for Florida. I like to see those games though.

I really wish Florida-Miami was annual again.  We've played them a handful of times since, but '87 was the last annual meeting.  I was born in '80, and my earliest Gators football memories were the big games with Miami.

Yeah, but you have 4 and 5* replacements all around.

Yep, Bama will return at least 15 of the two-deep on both sides of the ball. That is strong.

The Dawgs lost four underclassmen yesterday in one day.  I expected 2 to leave, but not all four.  Good luck to them, hard to fault their decisions really even if they are 5th rounders.

Holyfield might go in the second round, not sure about Nauta.

All from the same side of the ball hurts, for sure.

We’re losing 4 to the NFL:  RB Traveyon Williams ( SEC rushing leader and all-time season leader at A&M), C Erik McCoy, LB Dodson, and TE Sternberger.

What I haven't appreciated is 2 of our guys posting the big, colorful graphic with a long message attached saying that they're coming back.
1 - it's unnecessary
2 - gee, thanks for gracing us with your presence
3 - the university is going along with it, because they're the ones making it look beautiful and legit, a la the players leaving ones

It makes you freak out before actually reading it.  It sucks.

The Dawgs will start out preseason ranked 3-4-5, which is not unusual for them of course.  Whether they end up as usual is less certain, but they should be loaded.  If Fromm gets hurt it would look different in a hurry, they have zero offensive snaps behind him (beyond handing off in garbage time maybe).

Having a solid backup QB is an obvious luxury (as Bama fans know) but if he's good he likely will transfer out.
