Title: 9/16 Tropical Storm of Consciousness: B1G v. America

Have a bunch of lamb chops I got from Costco.  I've never made lamb chops.  Ideas?

I would do a ninety minute or So marinade, and do not take them past medium.  They have good lamb chops.  They will cook faster than you think.

I am disapointed that USF-Ill didn't break the penalty record.

31 total penalties (24 in the 1st half) 293 total yards of penalties.

I'm going to try to go running this morning on a semi-lame foot/ankle. Wish me luck. Then I might hop over to a local food fest for some lamb ironically.

Cook them like a steak?  Better grilled, broiled, skilleted?

Outside it's America...

Checking in from the East River Flats. Still raining but that's going to quit soon.

Good luck.  I'm not much of a runner but I did take a brisk walk today, so pretty proud of myself.  We moved near a dam and it makes for a good walking route.

I'd try them indirect heat on the grill using a medium heat.Haven't done pork or lamb chops but I do my steak this way

I've been running 5 miles per day, most days per week.  Today is a short run day because tomorrow is a 10K distance for my training schedule, but last night apparently I came down with strep throat (8yo son got it on Thursday).  So now I feel like poop and there will be no running.

Mustard as a seasoning pairs extremely well with lamb.  Either ground mustard seed in the dry rub, or flat out plain yeller mustard spread onto the meat, and then whatever other herbs and spices you'd like to use.

You could do them using any of those methods.   Since lamp chops are relatively small (I'm guessing you have an eight pack or something), you may be best using grill or broiler.   Even with the largest skillet, that's going to be a fairly crowded pan.

Personally, I would use my Anova (sous vide) device and then finish them with a couple minute sear in either a hot iron skillet or on a grill.

As I age, I don't broil much anymore, unless it is for browning of a topping or something.

Second week in a row I won't get to see the Iowa game. Last week I followed ESPN game cast, while clutching my chest at a diner in Cheyenne, on the way from Black Hills to CO. This week, it will be radio on the way to Rochester, and on to Lake of the Woods in the morning.

I get the lamb chops from Costco fairly often and grill them with direct heat like a steak.  The wife likes them medium rare to rare (she wants steak blu rare, which is really rare).  They are pretty easy to fix in my experience, only problem is they are a bit thin and you can over cook them.

I think of them as akin to pork chops.  Direct heat about 3-4 minutes a side on charcoal.  Pork chops take longer because they are thicker (in general).  I don't try and do any fancy seasoning.  They taste good with basics IMHO.

I think there are two games between ranked teams today, Clemson at Laville (I expect a Clemson win 38-27) and Tenn at Florida (I expect a Tenn win 19-16, or maybe 6-4 in triple OT hopefully).

I can't speak to lamb chops. My wife wouldn't go for chops -- the live version is too cute for her.

Came down to the office this a.m.; old downtown building, small town Iowa. I heard scratching in the corner.  Thought: "I'll have to get mouse traps -- damn." Looked back one-half hour later to see a bat crawling around. I turn on the light. It hears me or senses motion, or light, and takes flight.

I am feeling vulnerable. There are no racquetball rackets at the office. Swatting the air with a 3-ring binder proved ineffective. With no handle-hold the binder went flying.

I took a swing with my ungloved open-hand mid-flight. Bats are very vulnerable once on the floor. I hate to destroy wildlife, but I can't have wildlife in my office.

I do my lamb chops on super high heat for about 2-3 minutes per side, and let them rest for about 10 minutes after I rub them with a garlic/rosemary mixture that I grind in the mortar (small processer/grinder would work too)

I rub them in canola oil and lots of salt and pepper before the grilling.

I'm making sliders today. My own blend of short ribs, brisket and skirt steak (1/3 each) that I grind. Gonna serve them with caramelized onions, "big mac" sauce and cheddar cheese on toasted mini-Sheboygan hard rolls.

Went to the farmer's market so also making tomato salad with some rustic bread I picked up, potatoes with rosemary and vinegar and a mushroom medley. Gonna eat good tonight.

I informally did bat patrol in an old theatre my daughter was performing in 10-years ago, when some of the actresses panicked during a break in the production while a bat was taking flight. That one wasn't bad. I took it out with my camera case.
But this had my heart racing after the 3-ring binder left my grip and I was down to hand-to-bat combat; it seemed to be flying at my face.

Yeah, you lose a very good one, potentially interesting one and IU because of the storm. Takes Clem-Louisville out of the 3:30 spot, which is a killer considering Tenn-Fla is butt now.

The noon slot has never been great, and is now whittled down in volume by the primetime expansion. Usually that volume brought something weird to the table.

Michigan is killing Air Force's load option. Just killing it.

The Wolverines size/speed combo is impressive. It means the straight dive gets 2-3 instead of 3-5. It means that sweep, which is often pretty easy short gains, no longer is. They're making those edge plays kind of a mess.

I can't watch a single show on ESPN anymore, other than live game braodcasts.  And even those tend to be so painful I'll just turn off the sound.  For all of my college years, College Gameday was my alarm clock, it was mist-see TV.  And then in my post-college tailgating years, it was the timer by which we set up the tailgate.  We HAD to have the generators, dish, and TVs all up and running before Gameday.
Now, it's just painful.  I immediately regret it any time I think I might give it another try and tune in.

this offense is trash. The play-calling is trash. Every time McDoom is in they know it's a jet sweep. Have to actually throw him the ball or just let him line up to throw defenses off. Speight is trash- his accuracy is horrible. This is painful to watch. Michigan is not the #7 team with this craptastic offense.

If I was at the game I would legit boo the team. What a piece of GARBAGE this was. Nolan Ulizio continues to get beat like a drum by any DE with any kind of quickness. He's a guard playing RT. Time to find a new RT. Damn LT Grant Newsome's injury was HUGE. He's the starting LT and Cole the RT if he was healthy.

What a waste of an awesome defense and future NFL kicker. I mean that young defense looks really good and should only get better with more experience. And that kicker is only a freshman and he's already this good. Should only get better.

With pieces like that they have ANY kind of competent QB play this team would be lethal. Instead they are in a dogfight with freaking Air Force bc they don't have a QB and their RT sucks.

I don't have BTN either.  Oklahoma State - Pitt became such a blowout I turned to the Texas A&M - Louisiana game, and the Aggies are losing 21-14.  Crazy.

Honestly think Mora Jr can afford this t be another underwhelming year if Rosen announces a return next year, which Rosen shouldn't. His passing has been lights out. If only the rest of the team could get their act together. On and Off the field.

huge problems with this offense.

Play-calling. Speight. Kekoa Crawford continued inconsistency. Shooting themselves in the foot. One step forward, two back on offense. Horrible in the red zone. Offense is a mess.

I'm not a big fan of benching QB's, but at this point I think there is not really a choice. It has to be done. Shoulda marched out one of the younger kids (not O'Korn) to start the season, but that's hindsight.

Drevno knows what Speight can't throw and deletes those plays from the game plan. The opposition is taking notes Drev so try them anyway. You stick to other plays that never work. Why no go back to old pass plays that never work?

I'm not sure what the staff sees in Speight or Crawford. Crawford has a tremendous amount of dropped balls and I don't think he's a great route runner either. No creativity in the offense. Honestly hard to watch.

28-0 Boilers...

I wasn't sure what to think after the Louisville game. A couple lucky red-zone turnovers for the Purdue defense. But generally a team that at least looked competent (despite getting severely outgained). But part of me worried that maybe Louisville was just poised for a down year, or maybe just had first-game jitters.

But now it's looking, after dismantling a MAC team and utterly DOMINATING Mizzou in all facets, like Purdue actually has a real, live, B1G football team here.

I'm drankin' the kool-aid... :singing:

Until that drive.  Jesus.  There is a great Buckeye offense hidden in there, but it won't be uncovered until they commit to being what they are, which is a team that can run the ball and not pass that well.

Purdue's first true "miscue" (granted, there was a TD called back earlier on both a holding call [accepted] and a premature celebration call [declined]). Sindelar throws a beautiful pass on an out route to Hopkins, who has it bounce right off his hands and get picked.

Mizzou with a chance at points here to close out the first half.

I don't care though.  This Purdue team was awful for years, and now they are on the road whooping a P5 team.

It's more than this game.  Anyone who's watched Purdue under Hazell should be able to tell the major upgrade this team has had under Brohm.  You could tell in the 1st game alone.

Purdue is still sloppy and has ways to go, but anyone sleeping on them is in for rude awakening.

After this season, looking at the stats, there will be no other pick for best B10 QB of all time besides Barrett.
This is what happens when you stir the pot and spill everything.

I don't know about the Big Ten, but OSU can certainly throw out their QB record book.
JT's gonna have every last one of them.

I already looked at it back last spring.  He already has a good argument, when you take into account volume, efficiency, and rushing numbers.  By the end of this seasons, it'll probably be an overwhelming argument for the best in B10 history.  But most people value intangible things when crowning someone "the best".

Nah. Stats are for losers.
Best in the B1G in terms of career/production all- Brees. Hands down.
Best QB at their best? A true Jr Drew Henson IMO. Unbelievable talent. Maybe the best combination of arm strength, touch, accuracy, size, speed, football IQ, quickness that I have ever seen out of the QB position. Had he just redshirted in 98 or just stuck around for the 2001 season...would've been a sight to behold.

Agree JTB has 4 full seasons to play.Sans 2014 JTB has shrinked on the big stage.Troy Smith for the most part played great in big games.Barret doesn't have this teams confidence.Last season Burrow looked head/shoulders above JTB in his throws.Penn St/M/Clemson/Olka have exposed his glaring weaknesses. It's sad everyone acknowledges this except the HC.Most games tOSU's depth just wears down opponents and Barrett looks good as this happens.Rather than admit this & change Meyer will go down with a stubborn decision.Buckeye Boards have been ablaze with this topic and beaten it to death. If Barrett's weak arm was consistently accurate there would be elbow room for his argument

Missed the  ending of SC-Texas.The RRR should be a good one along with Bedlam.Big 12 coming to life

Yup, that was a gut-wrenching loss, no doubt.
But, most folks expected the Horns to lose by a few TDs.  The defense played very well aside from a couple of let-downs.  The o-line was pretty terrible and the rushing game was non-existent.
Still, lots of positives to build on.  This team is improving week-to-week, just hope it continues.

How can that kick be legal?  He attempted a kick that was blocked. Flutie attempted and converted a real drop kick.  This kid kicked a ball that had already been touched.  How is that different than kicking a fumbled ball laying on the ground through the uprights?
