not sure i buy that. kyler has both of attributes of bama's qb kryptonite - mobility and pinpoint accuracy.
Has OU had more OB appearances than any other team?Yes with 20 appearances
Which team has been to which bowl more than any other team has been to any bowl game?USC has 34 Rose Bowl appearances
OU might be it?
Any chance I might come visit Austin, not to stay, just to visit, when the Dawgs play out there? If I'm still kicking?
Which team has been to which bowl more than any other team has been to any bowl game?Plz do. We’ll introduce you to bbq better than Bill Millers. And I’ll let you drive whatever kind of Ford I’m driving then. Probably a truck. I hear they (and everybody else) won’t be building cars anymore in a few years.

this should be linked between both the sec and bigxii boards, so no need to cross over for discussion. edit: ok, only way i could get it to work (for now) is to move and link, so here we are. put on bigxii board since there'e more traffic here. if you bigxii-ers don't want it here, i'll move it back.
i'll be updating this thread (both in thread and in first post) as the month progresses. i'll try to keep it updated with articles and info and whatnot. feel free to discuss.

II don’t see OU on your list, so my agony-in-advance standsno crow eating here
In recent years:
2000: Weinke wins Heisman, with Heupel in 2nd. FSU doesn’t have an offensive score as OU wins the NC over Weinke’s FSU
2003: Jasón White wins the Heisman, OU loses the MNC to LSU 21-14
2008: Sam Bradford wins the Heisman, OU loses the MNC to UF 24-14
2017: Baker Mayfield wins the Heisman, OU loses the semifinal to UGA in OT
Four examples concerning OU, with no counter examples, this century
I’d love to “eat crow” on this but my guess is that you will instead 320
I’ll be the happiest one to have this year’s OU slay the Heisman curse, believe me. It would be mighty tasty crow to dine onwell perhaps the most important thing to remember is that when you play Alabama its not the actual NC game
Nor would OU's game in the Rose Bowl last year, but they still lost.In the total history of the Heisman the Heisman winners team has gone 28 and 28 in their bowl game

Also of note is that Billy Sims OU team won their bowl game in 1978

Congrats to Bama, although I'm sick of hearing the SEC hype on ESPN.I guess Texas might have helped a little on that last bit, but of course those that have an agenda to push are already parroting the "Georgia didn't want to be there" line of bullshit, despite those same mediots claiming for the previous 4 weeks that Texas was small and weak and that no B12 team could possibly hang with a Georgia team even if the Bulldogs only had 50% motivation to be there.
When it was 28-0, I feared a repeat of the 2004 (season) Orange Bowl, where the undefeated and uber-talented Sooners collapsed after facing a little adversity.
This time, an undersized, maybe undertalented, certainly undercoached defense hung in and fought to the end, and the offense finally got cranked up and made a game of it.
Bama and Clemson are clearly the best two teams in the country. But I am really tired of the "Georgia's right there with 'em" talk in the national media.

The general consensus of most fans (even Georgia fans and SEC fans) is that Texas played a good game that wasn't as close as the final score.

The general consensus of most fans (even Georgia fans and SEC fans) is that Texas played a good game that wasn't as close as the final score.Lots more than that. Mediots the nation around are already parroting it. As well as a couple of posters on the B1G board that are NOT bamajoe.
I like that Texas held Georgia to 72 yards rushing. Nobody saw that coming.
The SEC and Big 12 are different animals. What works in one, doesn't work always work in the other. It doesn't necessarily mean one is better than the other. In this particular instance, Texas caught a favorable match up. Georgia may have been the only one dimensional offense Texas faced all year. Shut down the run, force Fromm to beat you with his arm and Bob's your uncle.
Tribalism. In all of human history, most independent, critical thinkers who expressed their independent, critical thoughts have met unhappy ends.
Tribes have to get their excuses straight to validate their beliefs.
Whatever happened to independent, critical thinking?
In all of human history, most independent, critical thinkers who expressed their independent, critical thoughts have met unhappy ends.except for John Adams and of course John Wayne
OU faced the same dismissive SEC comments when they beat Bama in a similarly decisive way in the Sugar five years ago. I guess they have to 'splain away any possible evidence that the SEC is not the be-all end-all.Just a simple matter of insecurity on display. Sad, really.
Loved the UT fans shouting S-E-C at the end of the game yesterday. Classic!
You know....That was my freshman year at Texas-- 1990-- and I thoroughly enjoyed chanting SECSECSEC at the departing hogs as we walloped them 49-17 in Austin on their way out the door.
I hate to admit it but Texas actually invented the S-E-C chant.
I know that probably sounds like Texas hubris but it's true. Way back when Arkansas elected to leave the SWC for the SEC, their football team (which had been good) had a very bad season. And when Texas beat Arkansas, the Texas fans mocked the Hog fans with the chant of S-E-C, S-E-C. As a matter of fact, nearly every fan base in the SWC did the same thing. I'm just assuming Texas did it first because we're the smartest.
The next year, Arkansas' last in the SWC, they were a bit better so they used the S-E-C chant as payback when they won.
Don't believe me. Here it is: http://www.espn.com/college-football/story/_/id/21994162/history-fun-obnoxious-inescapable-sec-football-chant (http://www.espn.com/college-football/story/_/id/21994162/history-fun-obnoxious-inescapable-sec-football-chant)
From the article: Arkansas had several rivals in the Southwest Conference, but none chafed Hogs fans quite like Texas. A year earlier, Texas fans had mocked Arkansas with the "S-E-C!" chant as the Longhorns thumped the Razorbacks by 32 in Austin.
I've always wondered if Arkansas would consider coming to the Big 12? They've never won the SEC in football despite playing for the title 4 times and really haven't had much success at all. Their pipeline of recruits from Texas seemed to dry up when the Big 12 started up long ago. I guess we don't have any resident Arkansas fans around to voice their opinion but I've often thought that Ark and ND should be the two teams to get the XII back to 12. I doubt it would ever happen but it's intriguing. I think if memory serves only two teams have ever left the SEC, GT and I think maybe Tulane or some smaller school like that.I guess we'll never know. It was your "100-year decision" so it's you that will have to live with it.
BTW: Texas is lucky A&M left for the SEC when we did, I think we would have put 3-4 solid butt whoopings on Texas in the years that followed our departure from the XII. It's a damn shame too, we deserved a little retribution on Texas for the '00s.
That’s like just your opinion, man.:72:
I never said that. I said that the underdog wins sometimes which is an absolute fact. It happened here. I don't know why that is controversial. Don't accuse me of saying something I didn't say.Your retort would be a tad stronger if you would maybe reference which one of us you're talking to and what we said you said that you're taking umbrage to.
Sorry. I was responding to the post about the Georgia didn't want to be there excuse. I was credited with having made that representation.Oh that was me. I’m your huckleberry.
Your retort would be a tad stronger if you would maybe reference which one of us you're talking to and what we said you said that you're taking umbrage to.I thought we were over A&M's move to the SEC and talking about Arkansas return to the SWC 12?
As it is, Gig'em, Junior and I are talking about A&M's move to the SEC and you're standing to the side claiming you never said that and we're like WTF? Who was even talking to him?
Lots of folks in Longhornland always considered Arkansas to be a bigger rival than A&M.This was one of the first games I ever watched (just on TV I mean):
Marq, I remember you mentioning that before. That's really cool!Jo Pa was quoted after the UT victory that no team could have had two 70 yard drives against us as Texas did in their game
(and no, PSU fans, although the president presented UT with a nice plaque, he didn't decide the national champions that year. It was the AP and Coaches' polls that declared Texas as the champs. PSU was offered a slot to play Texas in the Cotton Bowl, and ducked it, so this conversation need go no further :) )
I have an interesting story about another Patsy Cline song, "After Midnight," but I'm currently on my work computer so I'd best not linger. I'll tell it from my iPad mini where my big fingers make typos by the dozen. As some of you may know I spent most of the ‘80s & early ‘90s seducing or trying to seduce topless dancers, but what I may have never shared is how put off I was the first time I went to a topless bar.
