Title: Outback Bowl: Iowa (8-4) vs. #18 Mississippi State (8-4)

I feel like the Outback Bowl might as well just be on Iowa's schedule.

Tampa, St. Pete, Clearwater is a great destination

Not a good matchup for Iowa, especially sans Fant.

State's defense is at least as good as Iowa's, and their offense is clearly better (and it's still not that great).

There's a very real chance Iowa's 200+ game streak without being shut out ends on New Year's.  State might not score much either, but it probably won't have to.

Mississippi State’s Nick Fitzgerald (18.3) — averaged more carries per game than all Power Five conference QBs

He's the all-time leading rusher among SEC QBs.  Their D-line is legit, too.

Iowa's got a tremendous DL too, so it will probably come down to who can throw better.

Hint:  It likely won't be Iowa.

Eh, Fitzgerald doesn't look like the moderate passing threat he was in 2016 or 2017.

if he's averaged 18 carries per game, his throwing shoulder is probably shot

Seems like an interesting match up, to me.

UF-v-UM is the same, but to me a far more "boring" contest, in appearances anyway.  Maybe it's a great game in reality.

All these 3-4 loss teams have warts, sometimes big ones, and they can "lay an egg" unexpectedly.  Many of them have very unexpected losses along the way.

Mississippi State lost four games to teams with Top 25 defenses. Mississippi State averaged 4-points per game against Top 25 defenses. Iowa has a Top 25 defense (#17 if I recall correctly).

so, if the Hawkeyes play good defense and score a TD or two FGs, they can't lose!

I'm not confident they can rack up that many. Might be a 9-6 type game.

Since I haven't chimed in yet, I'll just keep all my thoughts in one post.
I think this is a terrible match up for Iowa. Stanley crumbles under pressure, and the run blocking at been substandard. This will be the best DL Iowa faces for the year, so I'm not confident in much offensive success.
Furthermore, I'm extremely tired of the Outback bowl. I really wanted Utah in the Holiday, but since I'm watching the game from my couch, it probably doesn't make much difference.
