I know everyone sticks around because of this, but I was remarking on a thread on the SEC site about the upcoming CG. The Bama fans are saying UGA is a tough out and the Dawg fans are crying in their beer, in effect, with some good discussion about weaknesses the other could exploit.
The inane chest beating here is almost nonexistent aside from the good natured ribbing. Thanks for that.
If I ever dip a toe in the "usual sites", all I see is crowing and chest beating and denigration of one's opponent, and excuses.
Boring.
We don't have many SEC posters, but there are enough to have good discussions there too.
Big 12 land is of course unique, and usefully so.

useful is a nice term for those sitting on the porch

I agree and I think a lot of us have had a similar experience. I started out on an Ohio State fan site but they were just way too big of tOSU homers for me. Then I went to a Michigan fan site to get some balance but that was nothing more than a mirror image of the tOSU site.
This was a funny experience. I got banned from the Michigan fan site for an exchange that went like this:
This was a number of years ago and MSU hadn't beaten Michigan in a while. Some Michigan fan posted that MSU wasn't really a rival because they had only won something like one of the last five. At that time, Michigan had the exact same record over the timeframe that he used against Ohio State as MSU had against Michigan.
I replied with this:
"Now that you mention it . . ."
That was literally all that I typed.
They banned me.
-
I'd ban CDawg, but that would set a precedent that mods could be banned, and my ass would be out right after his.
-
Agree. This place is unique and special.
I go to the Texas-centric sites for discussion on BBQ, but the football boards are just a beating. Same as most other teams, I've found over the years.
-
this place was a trap in it's 'CFN' days... categorizing in conferences was brilliant. most folks didn't like that, but the ones that did already grouped themselves like minded people before it was even realized.
understanding opponents is more valuable and accurate than making shit up about them. confirmation bias anyone?
atop of that, as an old Roman Legion practice, isn't it better to talk your opponents up and commend them on their abilities than to tear them down? this makes you appear much more formidable when you beat them... and lent much to the reputation of the Roman Legions. that happens here. i like it.

Ha, sorry, I accidentally stickied this for a moment. At least now I know where that button is...

Especially in bowl season it is useful to try and learn a bit about t'other team.
You might be playing some complete unknown team like say University of Texas at Austin and want to know if they are P5 or not.
-
You watch yer ass.
Hey CD, did you know we've got a Texas-Georgia home-and-home scheduled for 2028/2029? We're FINALLY going to erase your scoreboard from the 1984 Cotton Bowl and that GD muffed punt.
-
Indeed I am aware, and also aware of the distinct possibility of meeting in the Sugar Bowl this season, which would be great. It is an honor to be able to schedule a program with the prestige and heritage that Texas once had.
-
Beating OU in the CCG would go a long way in restoring UT's credibility. They're not there yet, but I think Herman has them pointed in the right direction at least.

about this, @Drew4UTk (https://www.cfb51.com/index.php?action=profile;u=1) can we get some of these commands at the top of threads too. or am i missing it?
and while i'm asking questions/suggestions, it's kinda convoluted to get to old sent pm's. i had a table in one i sent a while back i needed to update and it took me a while to figure out how to find sent pm.

He has nothing to do, ever, but yeah, that would be nice.

All I know is they better beat Oklahoma one more time or all their fans should be banned.

ISWYDT - see what happens when you move to SEC Country
-
I have noticed some new feelings, or old feelings, of late, I think it comes from eating grits.

Well we could take a vote and save Drew the trouble ;D
-
If we voted to ban posters, we'd soon have no one left, as the last person standing would ban himself.
-
BRILLIANT!

Exactly the same for scheduling Georgia! Y'all used to be great!

"credibility?" I mean, a 9-3 regular season is pretty credible, especially when that season included playing 11 P5 teams, ya know? Win or lose tomorrow, Texas is at least "credible" at this point.
Texas is absolutely not great or elite or dominant, but the Longhorns are certainly "credible" as a decent Top 20ish team.

Wait, I thought we were talking about how GREAT this plase is???

You could go hang out at the Purdue blogs, where we face the endless arguments about firing Painter because he's "reached his ceiling".

Not like Texas though.
-

There's GOT to be some polenta available somewhere down there to bring you back in line.
-
The grits down heah really are better. It must be the water.
-
I know I can be hard on my Gators, especially the OL. And I do respect a stat here and there.
-
Polenta is grits. Grits is polenta.
-
That's like claiming Georgia is Texas, and Texas is Georgia.
-

Pork is not beef and beef is not pork!
-
Well we could take a vote and save Drew the trouble ;D
... that's the thing about democracy w/o ensured rights of the individual.... those doods would circle back around and ban my ass in short order by exercising some obscure rule of the electorate....
-

It's really not, since grits and polenta are the same thing.
Other than that, though, completely correct!
-
Pork is not beef and beef is not pork!
This bit, however, is probably true. I'll allow it.
-
Polenta is made from corn, and is Italian.
Grits are made from hominy (which is made from corn) and isn't Italian.
Hominy hominy ...

Mind reader.
