Title: Iowa Broadcaster Gary Dolphin suspended two B-Ball games

I think this is a weird suspension. Seems like Learfield should pay the University money. Dolphin is just being a fan. Harry Caray said things, and it pissed off the company, but the fans loved Harry.

This is the most minor flub-dub imaginable.

It does seem excessive.  

Oh well.  Lesson learned.  Always assume the mike is on even when it is supposed to be off.

Unless this has been a continuous problem for him I don't think this is warranted but am glad they didn't overreact by firing him.

Not as dumb as NPR eating their own film critic for a poor attempt at humor on Twitter.

Yeah, that’s a tough one for the announcer.  He’s having what he thought was a private conversation.  Oh well. Gotta be carful anytime you are talking into a microphone.

WVU has a crusty old guy named Jay Jacobs who has been the color guy for basketball games on radio for years.  It’s getting to the point he sounds too much like a fan during games.  He gets frustrated with poor play and becomes overly critical of the players, imo.  He’ll take little jabs at the players he’s fed up with on air during games.  These local announcers are obviously all fans but they have to maintain some level of professionalism on air.

But I get that Dolphin thought he was off-air.  Sounds like a fair punishment to me.

I think he could have said it while on the air, not a big deal IMO
