To the UM soccer fans.  Very impressive environment, compared to what I was familiar with, and had to have played well on the to recruits.

But as to the one hipster asshat with the drum.  How is it possibly within the rules to let him walk up and down the sidelines and bang a drum in players ears attempting a throw in?  He's not even in the stands.

Indiana hosts unseeded New Hampshire (who upset #15 Dartmouth) on Saturday night; MSU hosts #10 Western Michigan on Sunday evening, and Wisconsin travels to #5 Akron on Saturday afternoon.

It looks like the OSU-Michigan Lacrosse game might be the opening act for the Spring FB Game again.

OSU Lacrosse is 6-0 vs Michigan all time. They have played each year that the Wolverines have had a Varsity Team; since 2012.

OSU went 3-0 vs Michigan as ECAC rivals; 2012-14.
/Michigan was technically a D1 Independent in 2012, as they played a transitional schedule.

OSU is off to a 3-0 start against Michigan so far, in the Big Ten LC; 2015-present

/Michigan has only once defeated a current Big Ten team either before or after the formation of the Conference; a two goal victory over Rutgers in 2015, propelling the Wolverines to a 1-1 start in the inaugural season of Big Ten play.
//Their current Big Ten losing streak began with the Buckeyes, that following week in 2015.

Scores: OSU-Michigan

ECAC

2012: 12-9

2013: 17-8

2014: 15-6

Big Ten

2015: 13-8

2016: 10-7

2017: 18-7

/The Wolverines will have two opportunities to end their three year Big Ten losing streak, before facing the Buckeyes in 2018.
//vs Maryland, and @ Rutgers.

So the elite Lacrosse Conferences this year, according to the Preseason Polls, are the Big Ten (5), the Acc (4) and the Ivy League (3).

The next tier down with two ranked teams each are the Big East, the Colonial and the Patriot.

Leagues with only one ranked team are the America East and the SoCon.

The bottom feeders with zero ranked teams are the Northeast, the Metro and the D1 Independents.

By State: Maryland (4), New York (4), 2 each in N Carolina, Pennsylvania and Colorado,  1 each in Ohio, Indiana, Wisconsin, Rhode Island, Connecticut and New Jersey.

The No. 2 Nebraska men’s gymnastics team will battle No. 1 Oklahoma and No. 4 Stanford in Norman, Okla., on Saturday, Feb. 3. Competition is set for 7 p.m. After falling one spot in the CGA Poll this week, the Huskers look to earn their No. 1 spot back, but it won’t come easily. NU enters the McCasland Field House, where the Sooners haven’t lost a meet since 2007.

Last Time Out

The Huskers cracked No. 3 Ohio State in front of a sea of red at the Bob Devaney Sports Center, 411.750 – 404.150 on Jan. 20. NU was led by Jake Bonnay, Anton Stephenson and Daniel Leal, who each claimed event titles. Bonnay claimed the floor title (14.45), Stephenson claimed the vault title (15.20) and Leal claimed the parallel bars title (14.45). The Huskers scored a 72.50 on vault, tying the school record on that event. It was the second time that Nebraska beat Ohio State this season.

Lincoln - The Nebraska women's basketball team used a suffocating defense to hold Illinois to just 10 first-half points, as the Huskers worked their way to a 62-47 win over the Fighting Illini at the Pinnacle Bank Arena on Thursday night.

With the victory, Nebraska improved to 17-6 overall and 8-2 in the Big Ten, while Illinois slipped to 9-15 overall and 0-10 in the conference. Coupled with a Purdue win over Michigan, Nebraska climbed into sole possession of second place in the Big Ten, trailing only No. 11 Maryland. The Terrapins improved to 19-3 overall and 8-1 in the Big Ten with a win over Rutgers on Thursday night in College Park. Sunday's 2 p.m. tip with the Terrapins at Pinnacle Bank Arena will be for first place in the Big Ten standings, and tickets are available now at Huskers.com.

Geez, tough conference - I thought the Longhorns were good

Columbus- The Nebraska swim and dive team broke multiple school records in the Thursday finals of the 2018 Big Ten Championships.

In the 500-yard freestyle, freshman Autumn Haebig broke her own school record with a new time of 4:42.69. She finished 12th overall in the finals.

In the 2000-yard individual medley, Tori Beeler set a new school record and personal best with her time of 1:59.02. She finished 18th overall, followed by team captain Anna McDonald for 24th (2:00.27).

The Big Red broke the school 400-yard medley relay record with a time of 3:36.03, shaving three seconds off of the previous top spot. Haebig broke another school record for her lead off clocking in at 53.36.

"This was one of the best conference sessions in recent memory," head coach Pablo Morales said. "Autumn got us off to a great start by breaking her own school record in the 500. She learned from her morning swim and paced herself well tonight."

On Beeler's performance, Morales said "Tori also adjusted her strategy from the morning and had a great second 100, taking down a 21-year-old school record."

"We are within striking distance of some teams just ahead of us, so it is important to keep this going."

The Huskers will continue competition on Friday. The first session will begin at 10 a.m.

I actually had to do a bit of a double take when I saw that OSU W Hoops Big Ten Title come across my feed.

The way that they've been carrying on over on the OSU board, I'd just assumed that they were getting their heads kicked in on a nightly basis.

You have folks calling for the coaches head on a stake, threatening to cancel their season tickets if they bring him back.

Tough crowd.

GENEVA, Ohio - Nebraska track and field seniors Landon Bartel, Kaiwan Culmer and Antoine Lloyd all won individual Big Ten indoor titles, and the Nebraska men's track and field team came within half a second of capturing the team title at the Big Ten Indoor Championships on Saturday at the SPIRE Institute.

Heading into the final event of the day, the 4x400-meter relay, Ohio State had 91.5 points and Nebraska had 89.5 points. Needing to outscore the Buckeyes by two points to at least share the team title, the Huskers' relay of Sam Bransby, Moujtaba Mohammed, Elijah Lucy and Andy Neal ran the second-fastest time in NU indoor history, 3:05.53. But Ohio State finished in 3:05.09 to hold off the Huskers. Nebraska finished second with 93.5 points, while Ohio State won with 101.5 points. The Husker women finished ninth overall with 47.5 points.

Man, I still can't believe the rabid nature of the OSU Women's Basketball fan base. As it is my least favorite sport, I honestly had no idea.

I posted a congratulatory post about the Big Ten Titles on the OSU board, and then got my head ripped off.

If this team doesn't make it to the Final Four and look dam good doing it, I fear for the neighbors and loved ones of these maniacal women's hoops fans.

They make the OSU football fans look dispassionate, by comparison. No wonder Jim Foster got Shanghaied out of town after stringing together seven straight Conference Titles.

/During the regular season the two teams split the ECAC Title and went 1-1 against each other, trading road wins.
//So Clarkson leads the season series 2-1, and is riding a two game winning streak vs Colgate.

///Since both teams are from NY, a de facto State Title is also on the line.

according to USA Today.com Ohio just had the worst sports weekend of All-Time
Mens basketball up 5 with 6.41 left (with the ball) gets outscored 23-9 (til Diop last second 3-pointer)
Womens basketball started game with a 10 point lead, was outscored 90-63 after that. The 95 points by CMU was the most points ever scored by a team seeded 6 or lower.(CMU was 11 seed)
Xavier was up 12 with 11:03 left was outscored 33-16 rest of the game
Cincinnati was up 22 with 10:56 left ,was outscored 32-8 rest of the game.Largest comeback in NCAA tournament history (any of the NCAA tournaments CBI,NIT,big dance etc)
Wright State was leading Tennessee 16-9 was outscored 63-31 to close out the game.
Ohio St wrestling became only the 3rd NCAA team to lose a National Championship heading into the final day with the lead.Heading into the final 2 days Ohio St became the first team not to win the NC when it had the points lead and the most wrestlers still in contention
Womens hockey team got shutout in the frozen four (lost 1-0 vs Clarkston)
Mens hockey lost BIG10 championship game to NDame

All 6 basketball teams blew leads (two teams blew 12+ point leads with about 10 minutes to go)
The wrestling team blew a lead on the final day
The two hockey teams combined to score 1 goal in their two biggest games of the year

Both Nebraska softball coach Rhonda Revelle and senior pitcher Kaylan Jablonski agreed to avoid dwelling too long on Jablonski’s NCAA record performance over the weekend.

So, what better way to move on than for Jablonski to turn around and see her senior teammate, center fielder Taylor Otte, make a highlight reel catch worthy of Sports Center nomination – and in victory over an intrastate rival, no less?

“You know what? That needs to be on ESPN tonight,” Revelle told reporters after Nebraska’s 6-2 victory over Creighton on Wednesday night at Bowlin Stadium. “Can somebody send it to them? I know they would put it on. That was unbelievable.”

Nebraska led 3-0 in the fourth inning when Jablonski entered the game. With a runner on base and one out, Creighton catcher Jordyn Sturgeon lofted a high fly ball to deep left center field.

“Once I saw it was over, it was all about timing the catch,” Otte said. “That’s all I had to do.”

“My thing was find the fence, get my hand on the fence and then jump,” Otte said, “and then it ended up in my glove.”

Otte pulled her glove back to reveal she had indeed robbed Sturgeon of a home run, much to the delight of the 458 fans in attendance – and Jablonski.

Jablonski, the only pitcher in the country to rank in the top 10 in wins and saves, pitched four innings to pick up the victory and improve to 14-5. She also slapped an RBI single to right field for a 1-0 Nebraska lead in the first inning.

That pales in comparison to what Jablonski did Saturday at Cal State Fullerton. Against the Titans, Jablonski belted three home runs and threw 140 pitches to earn the win in Nebraska’s 7-1 victory.

Extensive research from Nebraska’s media relations department later revealed that Jablonski became the first player in NCAA softball history to hit three homers and pick up a win as a pitcher in the same game.

Nebraska now begins Big Ten Conference play Friday with a three-game home series against Michigan State.

The AAU Sullivan Award has been presented annually since 1930 to the most outstanding amateur athlete in the United States. Representatives from the AAU created the Sullivan Award with the intent to recognize amateur contributions and achievements from non-professional athletes across the country.

Mikaela Foecke was a finalist for the award in 2015-16, and Kelsey Robinson was a finalist in 2013-14. When Foecke was a finalist in 2016, she was also joined by former Husker wrestler Jordan Burroughs. Last year, Wisconsin setter Lauren Carlini became the first volleyball player to win the award, and Albrecht and Hunter will vie to become the second.

Bloomington, Ind. - The Nebraska softball team (26-12, 4-3 Big Ten) handed Indiana (13-22, 6-1 Big Ten) its first Big Ten loss of the season on Friday with a 5-0 victory.

In a game that just had three hits and no runs through the first four innings, Nebraska needed to get something going on offense. In the fifth inning, the Huskers did just that, scoring five runs off three hits and an error. That would be it for the scoring efforts, but it was enough for Nebraska to earn the win.

Kaylan Jablonski had a spectacular game in the circle for Nebraska. She pitched a complete seven innings and improved to 18-7 on the year. In addition to shutting out the Hoosiers, Jablonski allowed just two hits and two walks. She also had six strikeouts.

Men's Tennis, Men's Gymnastics, Men's Cheerleading... it is indeed a slippery slope.

Although I have an Egyptian co-worker who insists that Field Hockey is primarily a Men's sport in that part of the World. (Of course I am taking him entirely at his word, and have done absolutely zero amounts of independent research to either confirm or deny his outlandish and extravagant claim).

Poll
#3 Maryland
#7 Northwestern
#17 Penn State
#25 J Hopkins

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

How it will play out...

The three unranked teams, Ohio State, Rutgers and Michigan, have already gone 1-1 vs each other. They will most likely lose out to the ranked Big Ten teams remaining on each of their respective schedules, and finish in a three way tie for fifth/last place in the Big Ten at 1-5. None of the three will qualify for the Big Ten Tournament.

#25 Johns Hopkins has already gone 0-3 vs the three title contenders (Maryland, Northwestern and Penn St) with all but Maryland by a razor thin margin. They will most likely sweep out the remainder of the unranked Big Ten teams on their schedule in blowout fashion, and lock up the four seed in the Big  Ten Tournament at 3-3.

Title Contenders:
#3 Maryland - still has to play Northwestern and Penn State. The Northwestern game "should" be for the Title.
#7 Northwestern - already beat Penn St, will play Maryland for the Big Ten Regular Season Title.
#17 Penn State - If Maryland beats Northwestern, then Penn State can beat Maryland, which would force a three way tie for first place whereby all three teams went 1-1 against each other and finished 5-1.

Speaking of Maryland and Northwestern, they will square off for the Regular Season Big Ten Title/one seed on thursday, with the loser of that game nabbing the two seed.

In spite of jumping out to a 3-0 start, OSU was blown out by Hopkins. The OSU season is officially over.

OSU's loss also eliminates Michigan from the Big Ten Tourney, as their only hope was a tie that included OSU.

So the Hopkins @ Rutgers game will officially be for the four seed with Hopkins as a heavy favorite.

(https://www.cfb51.com/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fgrfx.cstv.com%2Fphotos%2Fschools%2Fjhop%2Fsports%2Fw-lacros%2Fauto_story_wide%2F13264643.jpeg&hash=1b37466969f32a979387ff940933cf32)

Although they may have had worse overall records, I would argue that this was the worst season in Buckeye history for the following reasons.
1. They lost to Mich again. last years loss to the Wolverines was the first in school history, and now it's two in a row.
2. They lost to Cincinnati for the first time in school history. Bad. The Bearcats are currently 0-7 in the Big East.
3. Failure to qualify for the Conference Tourney. Although they did steal a regular season win unlike last year.
4. Loss of oldest tradition; a non-Conference game vs Notre Dame. The two schools had played a game every year up until this one.

for the 13th-straight season, the Ohio State men’s tennis team is on top of the heap in the Big Ten as the Buckeyes clinched at least a share of the title with a 5-2 victory Friday afternoon at No. 46 Indiana.
The win keeps the Buckeyes undefeated in the conference at 10-0 and they are now 25-2 overall on the season. Ohio State is now just the sixth program in any sport in Big Ten history to win 13-straight league crowns.

1:00 - #9Rutgers @ #19Ohio State

2:00 - Michigan @ #14Penn State

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Breaking Down the Big Ten Tournament

What we know...

Michigan is out. @Penn State is their final game.

The Maryland-Hopkins winner will get the one seed.

The loser of that game will make the tourney, but they could wind up in a three way tie with Penn St and the OSU-Rutgers winner.

OSU needs to win to get in. A loss, and their season is over.

Rutgers can still get in with a loss, but they'd need Michigan to beat Penn St.

Penn St can still get in with a loss, but they'd need Rutgers to beat Ohio St.

IOWA CITY, Iowa - For the third consecutive season and 13th time total, the Ohio State Buckeyes end their Big Ten play with a tournament championship. As it has been the whole tournament, the doubles point proved to be the momentum shifter of the match. Down one doubles set, the Buckeyes gathered themselves, found a rhythm and earned a couple breaks on courts 1 and 2 to pull off the doubles comeback. From there, they quickly won singles on courts 1, 2 and 3 to claim the sweep.

New York City - Olympic and World Champion Jordan Burroughs battled back from an early 4-0 deficit with a second-period scoring barrage to take out two-time World Champion Frank Chamizo of Italy, 8-5, on Thursday at Beat the Streets New York.

The "Super Match" was contested at 74 kg/163 pounds. The match came to be as a result of a social media exchange between the two world champions after a match in the NCAA wrestling season featured top-ranked Seth Gross of South Dakota State moving up a weight class to face top-ranked Bryce Meredith of Wyoming in a dual meet in January. Burroughs was the 2017 UWW World Champion at 74 kg/163 pounds, while Chamizo won the 70 kg/154 pounds weight class at the World Championships.

World Silver Medalist James Green was a winner in his 70 kg/154 pounds match against Cuba's Franklin Maren Castillo by a score of 2-1. Green was called for a caution to give the first point to Castillo, but rebounded with a first-period step out, and then scored after Castillo was unable to score on an activity clock.

Both Burroughs and Green are set to wrestle for a spot on Team USA for the 2018 World Championships at the Bob Devaney Sports Center at Final X Lincoln on June 9. The event starts at 6 p.m., and tickets can be purchased at Huskers.com/tickets.

At the D3 level, the Ohio Wesleyan men and the Denison women both made it to the elite 8.

Apparently this was Denison's best team in school history. Kind of amazing, considering they have always been a powerhouse program.

Lincoln, Neb. – Jordan Burroughs (74 kg/163 pounds) and James Green (70 kg/154 pounds) each went 2-0 during Final X on Saturday at the Devaney Center to advance to the UWW Freestyle World Championships.

Burroughs, a 2012 Olympic gold medalist and four-time World champion (2011, 2013, 2015, 2017), made his eighth consecutive World Team for the United States. The two-time NCAA champion at Nebraska swept his best-of-three series against two-time NCAA champion Isaiah Martinez, who won the 2018 U.S. Open.

In the opening match at 74 kg, Burroughs won by a 4-1 margin, scoring all four points via step out.

In the second bout between the two, Martinez took a 1-0 lead on a step out, but Burroughs took down Martinez and then added two laces to build a 6-1 lead after the first period. Burroughs added one point on a step out to start the second period. He added two takedowns en route to an 11-1 victory.

Green, a two-time World medalist, made his fourth U.S. World Team. He took home silver at the 2017 World Championships after earning a bronze medal in 2015. A four-time All-American at Nebraska, Green went 2-0 in the best-of-three series against Jason Chamberlain, the 2018 U.S. Open champion.

In the first match at 70 kg, Green won by a 2-0 margin, scoring one point for passivity in the first period and added another point for passivity in the second period.

In the second match between Green and Chamberlain, Green forced a step out in the opening period to take a 1-0 lead. He made the lead 2-0 after a shot clock violation before Chamberlain forced a step out.

The 2018 Freestyle World Championships are set for Oct. 20-28 in Budapest, Hungary. The other weight classes for the United States will be contested on June 16 in State College, Pennsylvania, and June 23 in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania.
