Title: Nebraska (1-1) at Oregon (2-0) Post Game
Post by: MarqHusker on September 05, 2017, 02:29:59 PM
Nebraska hung on last year in a fairly wild game in Lincoln, 35-32.  Expect a lot of points again this weekend.
The game is Nebraska's first ever visit to Eugene.  They did play at Oregon (in Portland) in 1953.  Nebraska leads the all-time series 6-1, meeting a couple of times in both the 70s and 80s (all in Lincoln).  Nebraska has also not visited Corvalis, playing OSU in Portland a couple times as well.

This game has two interesting sidebars,  one is the point spread, as it opened at Oregon -2, and has now stabalized around -14.
The other sidebar is the air condition.  The fires out west, have led to Hazardous air quality levels.   Game is supposed to be a 1:30 Pacific time start.  That could change.  Pac12 is evaluating other scenarios (similar to Minnesota at OSU this weekend too).

Yeah definitely keeping an eye on that air quality as supposedly it's been getting pretty bad in Eugene (like worse than Beijing bad). Probably not the best environment for these players to be running around and sucking wind in.

Nebraska leads the all time series with the Ducks 6-1.

The series kicked off with a home and home in 1952 and 53, with the road team winning each of those games.

It's been all Nebraska ever since, collecting victories in 71, 74, 85, 86 and 2016. All at home.

What venue and scheduling alternatives are under consideration?

the Pac-12 did release this statement on Tuesday:

"Oregon and Oregon State have been working closely with the relevant region air protection agency, the Pac-12, and their own medical personnel to monitor and asses the air quality situation since fires broke out and they will continue to do so. Based upon the information provided by the air protection agency and the expert health and safety advice of the respective University medical professionals, a decision will be made on whether or not to adjust game times and/or dates with the safety of student-athletes and fans as a priority."

I suggest the game be moved to Lincoln, NE.
Huskers wearing RED anyway.  Just like last season.

Last time Nebraska Cornhuskers wore red on the road, it started with a tiger and ended with a tale

Nebraska’s meeting with Oregon continues a tradition of playing marquee non-conference games against Pac-12 opponents. Since 1983, Nebraska has played 31 regular-season non-conference games against teams that were in the Pac-12 at game time.

• Nebraska is 23-8 against the Pac-12 in regular season games since 1983, including 3-0 against Oregon. Additionally in the regular season since 1983, NU is 6-1 vs. Arizona State, 5-3 vs. UCLA, 2-0 vs. California, 4-2 vs. Washington, 2-0 vs. Oregon State, 1-0 vs. Washington State and 0-2 vs. USC. Nebraska is 49-18-2 all-time against current Pac-12 member Colorado, a Husker foe in the Big Seven, Big Eight and Big 12 Conferences.
• Nebraska has also played five bowl games against Pac-12 teams in that time period, going 2-3 in those games.
• Nebraska played at least one non-conference game against a Pac-12 foe for 17 straight seasons from 1983 to 1999.
• Nebraska Head Coach Mike Riley is 2-0 against Pac-12 foes while at Nebraska. The Huskers defeated Oregon last season in Lincoln and posted a win over UCLA in the 2015 Foster Farms Bowl in Santa Clara, Calif.
• Nebraska has six games on its future schedules against Pac-12 opponents. The Huskers are set to meet Colorado four times between 2018 and 2024, beginning with a Sept. 8, 2018, matchup at Memorial Stadium. Nebraska will play Arizona in 2028 and 2031.

My God the unis Oregon wore last weekend were butt ugly.  For the offense to my eyes alone I hope Nebraska pounds the stuffing out of them.

Oregon is small along the DL and lacks any sizeable depth.  If UNL can pull a bend but not break D and continue to score on offense, UNL can/should own the 4th and win.   Will UNL want to run the ball in the 4th?   Will they be committed to wearing out the DL?  If they do, they can win.

I don't see UNL winning this game if it is low scoring.

I thought they said they weren't doing the crazy alternates anymore?

EDIT: Just looked them up.  Those are probably my favorite Oregon unis.  I modern twist on their classic.  I hope those ARE the ones they wear every week.

perhaps they will unleash Ozigbo in the 4th quarter if they are within a score
The big kid is fresh after not getting a snap last week

That was a rather strange football game.  Not so much the result of the point totals.  Nebraska dug themselves quite the hole.  To me the game was 'lost' when Riley decides to punt in the 2nd after 4th and 1 flag (after gaining the first down).  What's the difference Mike at 4th and 6 at that point?  That was a 7 point penalty, at least.  It was a video game, where punting made no sense when you were anywhere past your own 40.   Of course he learns this lesson early in the 3rd, when they go for it on 4th and 10, at that point it was 42-14.

Why doesn't Oregon know how to utilize Freeman properly?  UO got really bunkered in the 2nd half.

I attended my daughter's NCAA D-III XC meet 2.5 hours away, today.  Her time on this course is > 3 minutes faster than in the past on this same 6k course. She is a senior. That kind of increase in performance is just about incomprehensibly better.

I am reviewing the results of NCAA football tonight. Nebraska's medicine has a very bad after-taste. And, Ohio State's has a bad after taste. I thought the East was scary. Maybe the Big Ten is not so scary.

With only 3 nonconference games we won't know until post season.

many plays that can be singled out as game changers - you are right about that one.  #15 needs to get set.
the first Husker offensive play - good throw bounces off Stanley's facemack to the safety coming over late for an INT

my two take away's from the game

Diaco's defense is a mess.  Hopefully there is huge improvement before the kickoff at Illinois.  Why wait until halftime to make defensive adjustments?  and why in the wide wide world of sports doesn't Diaco dial up the pressure on the opposing QB?  If the corners, safeties, and LBs can't cover downfield, send them on the blitz!

Tanner Lee is NOT the next NFL first round draft pick.  Less than 50% completion and 4 INTS.  Similar to Tommy Armstrong.  Poor decisions and poor throws.  Yes, the defense put him in a bad spot, but Come on, Man!
