We've got:
New Mexico State at Minnesota at 7 pm on BTN
Northwestern at Purdue at 8 pm on ESPN
There are a few other games, probably not worth watching except for football is here, I'll have a beer (Great Lakes Oktoberfest) and commandeer the good television from the kids.
NW @ Purdue is almost the perfect opening game - not a national glamour game but two good B1G teams in a game that is very meaningful to conference standings.
-
what about airbhg? do iowa fans have to thank him/her/it?
-
I like NW and I liked Purdue last year. I don't know who to "root for". I'll just watch and enjoy.
IF Purdue has a nice run this year, and I know the schedule is tough, is Brohm gone? Last year there were a LOT of new coaches, perhaps after this year there won't be many. Coach O is said to be on the HS.

NW and Purdue are easy teams to root for, not sure who I'll side with but probably Purdue, just because the fans deserve a winner after a lot of down years. A strong season will absolutely make Brohm a hot target, though.

Agreed. I don't want my team opening in conference, but if it's a thing, I'd rather it be a solid game between two middle of the pack teams than like last year showcasing a top helmet team, but against a blah opponent.
I suspect they'll be fine, but UCF opening on the road with a new coach can't be fun. McKenzie Milton is always worth watching too.
I also think Tulane-Wake Forest is interesting. I have trending arrows up next to both of those. I've got Tulane meeting UCF in the AAC Championship Game FWIW.

We do a little confidence pool at work on teams against the spread where you pick five games. I looked long and hard at UCF for it but ended up going with Miami, Michigan, Maryland, FAU, and Appy State

Stupid kid's school scheduled back to school night for 6 PM PT this evening... An hour after the Purdue kickoff.
So I'm gonna have to DVR it and watch it on time-shift when I get home. :'(

Most Purdue fans seem to think he's planning to stick around for a while. He makes pretty darn good money, seems to have a good relationship with Bobinski, is getting the institutional/facilities support to improve, and he doesn't seem like the type to chase the "next big thing".
I think the NFL could possibly lure him, and of course if his alma mater [Louisville] comes calling, he might take that job even if it's a lateral move. And sure, the right situation at the right helmet school might get him.
But I honestly think he's comfortable where he is, and he's not going to leave for anything other than a perfect situation.

you should do a better job of getting your priorities in order. consider this a counseling.

I hope Brohm stays for 20 years, but since there's the possibility that he will bolt for a better slot, I'll probably root for Fitz. I know he'll be staying

we pick 6 games, makes it even tougher
I'm leaning Penn St, Oklahoma, Northwestern, Iowa State, Michigan, and Northern Ill

I was struggling for the last couple. My thoughts were I really like Miami and and LSU straight up and the spreads were thin enough to justify it. Took Maryland just because they are big home dogs and thought Oklahoma and PSU might struggle a bit offensively with all the new pieces.
-
Don’t know if Brohm will leave after this year but if the LSU AD had half a brain he’d fire that mongoloid Orgeron and go all in on Brohm.

Yes. Yes they do.

That's an insult to all Mongoloids.

Coaching vball tonight, but will definitely head out for some wings w my Dad at a neighborhood spot w the Purdue fans.
-
I hope Brohm stays as well. I'd like to see Purdue reach at least NW status, which should be doable.
NW has clearly climbed out of "Vandy status". Tennessee sort of climbed down below that. I think Crunch may be back.
Illinois is a program that puzzles me. They should be able to field decent teams. I used to say that about Washington, and still do about UNC. Flagship universities should have decent football programs.
-
Whew three and outs!
-
Gophs look the part on that drive. 7-0
-
Wilton Speight named the starting QB at UCLA for the opener. Color me shocked.
Thought for sure they'd be going with the true frosh Dorian Thompson-Robinson who was ranked in the 247Composite as the #2 Dual-Threat QB and #35 player overall in the class of 2018. Much better fit for Kelly's offense.
-
Gophs become Goophs, fumble in their own red zone, and NMSU tosses a touchdown. Tie game
-
Man forgot about the kickoff rule. Not used to guys waving for a fair catch on kickoffs
-
Gophs now down 10-7. Better row that boat.
-
Gophs return go up 14-10 on a couple mice okays, including a bulldozer type of run from the backup QB/receiver

Wait, I thought NU's quarterback tore an ACL and was out for the year. Guess I wasn't paying attention. he's 4/4 in tonight's game so far...

College football is back!
Great looking crowd tonight in West Lafayette

A touchdown for NU

I think I always liked Speight better than most Wolverine fans.
-
Purdue looks lost on defense. NU up 14-0
-
Purdue offense gets it going. 14-7
-
NU inexplicably goes away from Thorson...punts
-
True freshman Rondale Moore scores his second touchdown for Purdue. Tie game.
-
Wilton Speight named the starting QB at UCLA for the opener. Color me shocked.
I'm not shocked. It will be interesting to see how he makes out there.
-
I wasn't shocked either. And I was glad he got the job, not only because he's a respectable guy, but because it bodes well for the QBs he left behind since he only left because he saw the writing on the wall.
-
I think I always liked Speight better than most Wolverine fans.
Me too. Well before his injury at least. He never recovered from that. And, though this is rarely the case in a sport with 100-man teams, it's hard to argue that he didn't single-handedly give up that 2016 OSU game on his own. I'm not blaming him as much as his injury, though. Which was the point. And when he returned after the off season, it was the same in 2017.
Hopefully he's past that now.
-
Brohm has a real knack for minimizing his players' weaknesses.
-
Good game.
-
I think I always liked Speight better than most Wolverine fans.
You're an Ohio State fan. I'm sure you liked him a lot better than Wolverine fans considering he was one of the main reasons Ohio State won that game in 2016. A pick 6, another bad INT that was essentially another pick 6 after the flag on Michigan on the return, and lest we not forget the lost fumble at the one yard line. 21 point swing right there.
-
I'm not shocked. It will be interesting to see how he makes out there.
I am. He sucks. And that's me being polite.
Kelly must be having his, "hey let's start Blaine Gabbert over Kapernick" moment in college. My guess is the true frosh DTR as he's called- will wind up being the starting QB by seasons end.
-
This kid for Purdue is fun to watch.
Also, not a fan of nw helmets.
-
Not a fan of either team's helmet. But not everyone can be a helmet team or a non-helmet that is unflinchingly rigid about tradition.
-
Very fun way to start the season, though!
-
The Gophers edge the Red Aggies 48-10.
-
:banghead:. Buzzkill to end game.
-
Damn Neal. You harshed our buzz.
-
Yeah, another bad decision by a Purdue player to ice the game.
2 horrible interceptions and an ill timed personal foul made all the difference. Along with some awful officiating...I know, I know, it's only game 1...but it's true.
-
For these being Thursday night games they appeared be well attended at Minnesota and Purdue.
-
If Purdue wasn't in love with throwing INTs they might've actually won. Fun game to watch regardless, as a neutral party at least.
-
Tough to lose like that and great to win for NW.
-
For these being Thursday night games they appeared be well attended at Minnesota and Purdue.
Purdue saw a huge spike in season ticket sales - like they doubled. I think the fans see promise there.
Minnesota... not so much. Nope. For them, it's buy 3 Red Baron pizzas and you get free tickets.

Row the Boat!!

wasn't saying they shouldn't change, just didn't like the cartoonish wildcat. purdue's was fine, imo.
-
NU needs to stick with the "N" and that's it. Don't need gimmicks. Just win.
-
Pencil in the Wildcats as the primary Challenger in the West?
-
Good to see enthused crowds on a THU anyway.
Good to see CFB on TV anyway.
And I'm SO EXCITED about watching my team play Austin Peay.
I'm just about to pee.
(The Dawgs just inked a CFA one and done with Clemson in 2024, which is better than some other options.)
-
I'll have a beer (Great Lakes Oktoberfest) and commandeer the good television from the kids.
Fantastic choice and maybe their best effort of any style. It disappeared off the shelves almost as soon as they announced its release last year.Have to have Bill at the corner put 2 cases on the side for me.Can't have any yet as I'm still waiting out a leg infection that sent me the Hospital for 4 days

The pick 6 was a nice play by Baker but no doubt about the other two. They reminded me of Stanley Jackson vs M in'97 he cost tOSU 10 pts in a game they lost by 6.Joe Germaine had the highest QB rating in the Big 10 at the time. But Coach Stupor thought it prudent that he should be platooned with a turn over machine.I understand the Rancor

Well, thankfully(??) I had to go to a school event for my son and then by the time I got home I was already getting texts of "are the Boilermakers going to keep playing dead?"
So, not so good...
But Rondale Moore... WOW! First game as a Boilermaker, true freshman, and he set the school record for all-purpose yards in a single game. And not against a MAC or FCS school... Against a conference opponent.
That kid is special.

Between the INTs (not the process of them being intercepted, good for NU making those plays, but the fact that they were thrown ... like that) and then Neal's penalty to set on fire 2.5 minutes of a final comeback drive, I kept thinking Purdue looked like the better team but couldn't get out of its own way.
-
I'm struggling with the idea of two of the B1G's best teams playing on Friday night.
-
Yersh unnecessary replay
-
USU not trying to be a patsy
-
Sparty getting boned by the refs
-
Utah States QB is...not bad
-
Western Michigan only down 6 after trailing 34-7 at one point and one from each team just got ejected. Syracuse qb with his 1st unsportsmanlike as well.
-
Lewerke looked pretty good in the first half. Same with LJ Scott. The OL and pass defense were less than expected, though. MSU often starts slow, of course. With 19 returning starters, though, I thought they might come out on fire. Still the second half will almost certainly be exactly opposite.
-
Not having BTN sucks.
-
This is a real game
-
The MSU OL and pass defense have looked the same in this half as the first. The Lewerke pick-6 has been the most decisive moment of the game (in terms of "Is it a blowout or close?"). Losing Panashiuk is terrifying if (1) that's the Panashiuk I think it is (MSU has so many football families that I never actually know) and (2) the injury is serious.
-
Assuming the OL (especially the tackles) put it together as the season goes along, the biggest takeaway from tonight for me is that MSU really can't afford for Josiah Scott's injury to recur once he gets back. The laxity of the defensive backfield was the biggest surprise of the game.
-
Surviving the Blue Aggie scare bodes well for a Dantonio team historically, as some of their best seasons have started out with a game like this.
-
The Aztecs are hangin' with the Indians.
-
SDSU knows how to ball vs Stanford, see last year.
-
Wow. Those Rams are really getting Buffaloed.
-
How many years of eligibility does Wisconsin's kicker have?!!!!!!

I don't think it would have mattered. Teams that spread MSU to pass have continually given MSU defense fits. Particularly when they go fast. That style has consistently been our nemises. The OL and the failure to finish drives concern me far more. It's also notable how many times they got burned trying to substitute. Tressell seemed quite overwhelmed in his first try as the solo coordinator.
-
Also saw that in the last 8 years, Utah State has one possession road losses at Oklahoma, Auburn, USC, Wisconsin and now MSU. Maybe let's not schedule them again, k?
-
So is Colorado State this bad or does Nebraska have a problem on their hands next week?
-
So is Colorado State this bad or does Nebraska have a problem on their hands next week?
Colorado St sucks. They already lost to Hawaii... AT HOME.
-
Okay, I noticed that yesterday on ESPN.com and assumed there was an error. Did Colorado State play games on consecutive days???? vs Hawaii, then CU? What the hell???
-
Ok, nevermind, they played Hawaii last Saturday. Had no idea.
-
Not having BTN sucks.
I'm telling you guys - youtube tv
ESPN, ESPN2, SEC Network, ESPN U, ESPNews, FS1, FS2, FSLocal x2, NBCSports, NBA TV, MLB Network, BTN, CBS College Sports
$40/month

I've watched on Hulu to satisfactory results.

Ah yes, I forgot that. They were down 37-7 there too, before making the score look close late. Suck they do.

Today will be a war. I have to take my oldest daughter to soccer, and then a bunch of her friends are coming over for a sleepover. I also have a wife and two other daughters. So that means I'll have like seven girls in the house, all virulently anti-football. Wish me luck.

There are worse outcomes than boredom. I watched a quarter of it - as patsy openers go, UW looked good.

I've skipped a lot of Michigan (and certainly all other) college game days. Skimmed a lot of it in the background today for whichever reason. Several funny signs, though we probably need more about finding Jesus.
-
Worst part of summer, I want to rip out the flowers, but not when it's steamy and sultry. I'll give em one more week.

Probably the best sign yet:
Gerald Ford was never elected.

good stuff

I had a helluva time explaining the Ford presidency to my daughter the other day. She s at the age of checking out books like almanacs and Guinness book etc. She couldn't quite grasp a scenario where there s an unelected President.

Cool black MAC flag - looks like a jolly roger.

Taamu will get some 1st week Heisman hype imo . Media can't resist handing it out in sept.

I see we've moved back to tight / short jerseys last seen in the mid 90s.

The electoral college is actually easy for her to grasp. That's an ideological barrier for others it seems.

Too bad it's been rendered a fraudulent system.
-
Beat the Pleat doesn't get old. Ballooning pleated pants are a crime against humanity.
-
Too bad it's been rendered a fraudulent system.
I wouldn't call it fraudulent - the rules are out there and constitutional - but I will say that it disproportionately weighs the power of small state citizens relative to large state citizens. Small states already have the gift of disproportionate power via the Senate. That was probably enough. The electoral college on top of it arguably gives small states with tiny populations overmuch influence. The concern: What other outcome except an anchor to impede the evolution of political will, which is always driven by popular opinions, which small states *rarely* define?
It was wise for the Founders to partially counterbalance that. But only to a point. Going too far on that is very predictably a bad idea. The question of course is where people draw that line.
-
I heart Matt Canada so much
-
Oregon State gets a nice gain on a screen, but then turn it over
-
Haskins with a couple nice tosses and the Bucks score. 7-0

Bucks blow a coverage on a screen and then again on a slant and the Beavers have an easy score

Well, that was just about the biggest brain fart I've seen since Purdues game ending personal foul. Maryland kid is running into score and begins taunting at the 10 yard line
-
Wow, they picked up the flag. Fortunate break, that was the definition of taunting.
That kid is dynamite, going to be a pain in the ass for years.
-
Pass rush is ferocious but everything else suspect at this point
-
I know the Beaver OL isn't exactly full of world-beaters but damn that Buckeye DL, especially in pass rush, is scary.
-

Without arm gestures: It's kind of tough to call unless you were there and could hear what he was saying.
-
Man, with Haskins the ball is coming out fast and coming out hot. Apparent difference compared to JT
-
They just spotted a ball in the Maryland game where a KR caught it out of bounds, not where it crossed out of bounds???
-
21-7 Bucks with 3:41 to go in the first quarter.
-
So much for that FAU upset alert on Oklahoma.
Thinking this is the beginning of the end for KK at TT too, he was lucky to keep his job this year, and probably wouldn't have if he wasn't a legend at the school

Another OSU mental error

Pass rush is ferocious but everything else suspect at this point
Jordan Fuller is their second best defensive player IMHO, and most experienced safety.
beavers caught both Wint and Pryor out of position on that TD with no Fuller in there.
-
If that isn't a late hit on Texas, I don't know what is.

Oh, they did call it, ok. That is a likely ejection too.

don't remind me. that was a heart breaking recruiting battle for Michigan against Ohio State.
Safety is the one spot on Michigan's defense that is completely meh.

We got lucky on that one. That position is HUGE if you don’t want to let little runs or passes turn into big ones. Fuller is rarely out of position.
These kids playing for OSU now will be good some day, but no experience.

Fuller is a future NFL draft pick at safety. Having a guy like that helps clean lots of things up on that back end.
Lot of talent on that defense. Ohio State will be fine.

Of little importance outside of the Elimination Pool, but Illinois announced 5 suspensions minutes before kickoff, and is down 10-3 to Kent State. Awesome

That'll teach them not to do that rugby style punt

playing the shock-jock for click bait sure has it's costs, no?

If you’re Texas you’re heating up Herman’s seat white hot right now. Longhorn’s secondary disorganized, no running game, offensive line pushed around, get your act together Texas.
-
OSU isn't even playing that clean, and looks absolutely amazing.
yeah they look good. But Oregon State really sucks. They'll probably be 1-11 again this year. Oregon State are dogs in 11 of their 12 games. They suck. A lot.
-
If you’re Texas you’re heating up Herman’s seat white hot right now. Longhorn’s secondary disorganized, no running game, offensive line pushed around, get your act together Texas.
Herman and Texas need to win this one against Maryland- who is probably one of the weaker teams in the loaded B1G- or it's just gonna be bad.
-
Crap, Maryland totally imploding before the half. Surrender a touchdown, then a fumble in the end zone is a safety, then kick the ensuing kickoff out of bounds to give Texas the ball on the 50. Longhorns with a good chance for 16 unanswered going into the break.

Villanova is beating Temple.

2nd best team in the state?

Rice is beating Houston.

Nah, they are their usual mediocre selves. I think Kenny Pickett at QB is very interesting, but the schedule is simply too tough. If they get to a bowl I'll be surprised.

Local BTN flipped from Illinois to Rutgers as the primary game at half.
:57:
Nice when the conference's network gives up on you down 14 to the worst team in the MAC
-
BTN not running the scores at the bottom is mildly irritating.

The Illini are hanging tough with the Flashes.

Maryland defense needed that start
-
Ugh, Kent State right back in front.
Illinois offense has been a mess, but to have given up 355 yards and 24 points to Kent State midway through the 3rd is extremely concerning.
-
Rice is beating Houston.
The same Rice that needed a miraculous fourth quarter comeback with a last second FG in order to beat FCS Prairie View, week zero.
Has Houston already lost its mojo?
-
Not sure if it's the Terps' offense or the Horns' defense, but the Maryland offense has ground to a halt. Last 5 drives, a combined 20 yards, a safety, and a turnover on downs.
-
Ohio U has its hands full with Howard.
-
Illinois finally on top. A collective sigh of relief from the elimination thread. For now anyway
-
Just heard the intro of Black Grease by The Black Angels used in a NCAA TV commercial. That was unexpected...
-
Nova pulls off the upset.
Are the Owls in trouble? Or did they simply get caught up in a "throw out the records" crosstown showdown?
-
Not a bad way to start the 2nd half by the Buckeyes
And the other OSU answers with a 1 play 80 yard TD.
-
Ole Miss looking decent. Texas not so much.
-
Maryland keeping it interesting going up 31-29, but now in a weather delay with almost the whole 4th qtr remaining...
-
This targeting rule is tough. Texas Tech losing two players to it.
-
Maryland keeping it interesting going up 31-29, but now in a weather delay with almost the whole 4th qtr remaining...
Somehow we've had weather delays in Columbus, and now DC, and right in the middle in Pittsburgh, it's been sunny all day.
-
The same Rice that needed a miraculous fourth quarter comeback with a last second FG in order to beat FCS Prairie View, week zero.
Has Houston already lost its mojo?
28 unanswered for the Cougars to open up an 18 point lead.
-
I turn on the Bucks game after the delay. I missed 40 seconds and two touchdowns.
-
Illinois finally on top. A collective sigh of relief from the elimination thread. For now anyway

I like how these announcers are talking about how even though Rice is down 45-27, this is about still making smart decisions and playing good football to the final whistle, trying to run their offense...
As they spike the ball on 1st and goal with 0:34 seconds left and 3 timeouts

Ohio State's defense is bad.
-
Better stick with this blowout ABC. Not like anyone would rather watch Washington-Auburn
-
Yeesh, Appy State forces Penn State to go 3 and out to start, but a taunting penalty keeps the drive alive

They switched it in Columbus. Not sure I've seen that before

Ohio State's back seven is bad.

And Penn State makes them pay with a TD instead

Front four not as deep apparently either, as they have been looking pretty crappy since the starters went out.
The good news is, getting Fuller back, their best run support tackler, and Borland back to start, will be huge for the defense. That’s their top 2 tacklers from last season.
-
4 TDs? That's crazy.
-
Rain/Lightning delay at Texas-MD. They moved us all out of the seats and into the below deck concourses. Thank goodness this is an NFL stadium with no restrictions to play live on the many walkway TVs. Maryland fans massed by the Penn St game, rooting hard for App St.
-
Or an antiquated tradition?
or a way to insure that the election is not dominated by certain areas of the country. We are a republic not a democracy

Appy State up 10-7 on PSU

I'm hoping. Wint might as well not be on the field for all the support he provides on the back end.

These storms passing through have been very isolated. No big front just lots of pop up storms

Spectacular day in Laramie. That's a tough ramp to hike to the upper deck at 7,000ft.

I wasn't basing it on anything political, and the rules are the rules before the election. But it is silly that it's still a thing.
Do you disagree?

Enjoying all of the Auburn fans trying to get the crowd to make more noise as their own team sets for 4th and 1.

Would Moorehead be performing better?

Falsifying that everyone's vote counts the same. I'm not saying it's dishonest or wrong, but I think the reality is lost on a majority of voters. Whose fault that is, I don't know.
What's the argument against each vote counting the same, I guess.

I don't like it, but I don't particularly like the idea of large metro populations dominating the discourse either. In a political climate with such a rigidly defined two party system, tyranny of the majority is a real concern.
Personally I'd prefer a parliamentary system.

FedEx Field looks like my lawn in March
-
Washington moves the ball but can't punch it in. 12-6 Auburn.

Maryland WR clearly out of bounds, but that would have been a very interesting decision if we still had the old force out rule.

The Senate gives us a Republic on its own. That's arguably enough disproportionate power for small states.
The conversation should start there and whether a republic **also** needs an electoral college. When added to a Senate that disproportionately represents the population, the electoral college mostly blunts the evolution of our political will. Where we are going long term is always determined by the popular vote. That's mostly inevitable but not necessarily fast.
Counterbalancing that with more than a Senate is fine but the reason shouldn't be "To be a Republic," it should be "Because it scares us for urban centers to lead us too quickly, so let's make it slower."
-

I dunno I've been in the majority for quite some time and appear more as a surf than a tyrant.Unless you're referring to majority of the money then ya that's a concern

Iowa's first-half looked as Iowa-esque as ever. Leads 3-0 over N. Illinois.

When it's made explicit, I accept it as reality. I still disagree in part (I think the US Senate is protection enough from such tyranny. The filibuster is a 2nd tool working in the same direction), but that honesty makes it impossible for me to anchor a foot in the earth and get stuffy about the conversation.
Personally I'd prefer a parliamentary system.
Word to everyone's mother.
Our "single member district simple plurality" has so many unintended consequences. It inevitably results in a (1) 2-party system and citizens who will vote (2) on unflinching identity rather than dynamic platforms. *And* (3) almost zero voters will find a candidate who aligns with their large constellation of true interests. Instead we fall in line with a party, decide the other party is bad for our family, and tend to subsume all of our party's interests as our own ... including when they aren't.
-
Wyoming has a legit defense. Never fun to defend against Leach.
-
Akron v N likely to see lightning delays. May not start game on time. Supposed to be 7 central.

A republic in terms of representation is fine (but imperfect). But in terms of a vote, yes, I'd like each vote to count equally. I don't see the harm in that, especially when we know the dynamics of who tends to vote and who doesn't.

Maryland with a pick that should seal it up. TERPS

Herman and Texas need to win this one against Maryland- who is probably one of the weaker teams in the loaded B1G- or it's just gonna be bad.
You know what it's like to lose multiple QB's in one year.
Lose them for the entire year game 3 and see how that affects your whole team.
We don't know how good this team is.

A pick play that Manning and Brady would be proud of

UW needs to practice their goalline pick play....slot WR just runs to the CB and blocks him, penalty, TD called back, missed FG. lol

Yep. We hang on to this idea that each person has "their" representative in Congress, then those representatives go to DC and vote party-line all day long.
A proportional representation system would allow much more room for 3rd parties.

Washington discovered the one red zone play call worse than an undisguised pick play.

Yeah, the nationalization of the parties, as a result of cable news and Newts Deal have done away with that notion, and made the two party system even worse. I'm cool with rust belt Democrat being pro gun, pro union, pro life or a Pacific Northwest Republican being socially liberal. Good luck getting any money not towing the party line.
We had a special election to fill a seat, and Democrat who won represented this area well. Pro Union, fiscally in line with Dems, but also pro Marcellus drilling and pro life. Considering how Catholic this area is, and how many people are dependent on the drilling industry, that candidate makes sense. He was only the candidate because there is bo primary in a special election, and he never would have won a nom on that platform. He was appointed as the nominee, specifically because he appealed to a lot of mods who had flipped to Trump. Instead now Dems hate him for not towing the line, and the Pro Trump crowd can't stop to realize he's perfect for them, and just see that D and hate him. It's so sad it's funny.

Washington close again. Let's see how they screw it up

Dubs bang a field goal off the upright to finally take the lead

Every time you think Appy State is dead, they still have fight.

Trying to give my Dad a crash course on working my 3 TV set up. Going out tonight with PSU, IU and ND alum. This isn't going to go well. Anchoring N v Akron for him (which may get delayed) with ND Mich and Bama Lvl on the slot TVs.

Appy State is in position to win

PSU gets their touchdown. Can the defense put it together?

Is Wisconsin the only defense so far to look any kind of good?

I wouldn’t put too much stock in week one. I remember last season, Ohio State looked very shaky early but ended up #9 nationally by year end.

I'm mostly wrong, but I seem to be right on in thinking Troy was going to take a big step back.

Surprised NBC didn't sit Tirico for this one. Their ND base is going to be so pissed to have a UM home in the booth.

Michigan's defense looks about par for the course for the conference this weekend.

To keep the theme, Michigan looks like Swiss cheese on defense. Irish 7-0

It's spreading rapidly. It reached Ohio in like 2010, Michigan in about 2012. For being America's oldest brewery, that's a drop in the bucket.
The weird thing is here it's the standard cheap beer, then in certain places it's treated like a commodity. I drank at enough $2 draught nights before I realized certain areas sought it out.
-
O'Korn could have run that series of play calls.
-
OSU transfer WR Trevon Grimes' first catch as a Gator goes for a TD!
Prolly had to get away from Zach,Urbz paying you back right there

Looks like Metellus is done for the day

HELL of a reception, Irish up 14-0

That's a sonofabitch. I've been dealing with plantar faciitis really bad. Having a flat tire ruins everything.
-

I'm pulling for M ND got the two best OL out of ohio in '16.That are playing and giving their QB time to make throws like that
-
The Irish are off to a pretty nice start.
-
Missing every deep throw by an inch. Skyscraper receivers. Didn't know these corners had a kryptonite, but they've never seen this.
-
Michigan defense, woof
-
Nice look by the UM assistant woofing at an opposing kicker. Guessing Harbaugh will have words for him.
-
Predicted articles tomorrow: After MSU, PSU, and UM openers, is the B10 Overrated?
Stupid, lazy writers.
-
Don't think Michigan has had 2nf and more than 5 yet.
-
Ugh, Daylin Hayes. MSU leans making plays all over the nation this afternoon.
-
Patterson looks as advertised. Great release, comfortable extending plays.
-
That's a sonofabitch. I've been dealing with plantar faciitis really bad. Having a flat tire ruins everything.
never had what you do,my condition is getting better when I 1st got back from ICU my lower leg and foot had a shooting, throbbing pain when I brought it down from elevation.but I could hardly walk to the head it would subside in 4-5 minutes.Don't want to get this shit again
-
Every play for Michigan that looks to go downfield looks awful
-
Michigan isn't playing either predicted starting interior lineman (Solomon/Dwumfour). Have they been spotted? Too much of Marshall/Mone. Mone's the better of those two but never intended for all 3 downs.
-
Uniform notes:
Michigan should wear maize pants.
ND's white shoes are interesting...idk if I like it or not.
-
Florida's 2nd TD pass goes to Ole Miss WR transfer, Van Jefferson.

Uniform notes:

Agreed. I love the all white road look if you also go with a base white helmet, like Texas, Wisconsin, Nebraska. Less so with UM. I hope MSU makes the white helmet on the road permanent.
-
ND giving a TON of cushion. They can have 5 yards every pass play if they are patient enough to settle for it.
-

The runs and short throw are all money, then Michigan tries for something longer and it blows up.
-
Michigan able to turn a crappy ND punt into their own field goal. 14-3 Irish
-
The runs and short throw are all money, then Michigan tries for something longer and it blows up.
That's why I struggle with NFL football. That's all the NFL is. All bend and break, and hope you get an offensive penalty to put them behind the sticks, or gets greedy and takes an unnecessary shot.
-
I've always found the flowers in South Bend odd. Between the Hedges is cool. ND just has some planter boxes where seats could be.
-
Random prediction. ND posts a score, UM adjusts and the second half is all about UM can match. Like 28-10 at halftime, but ND finishes with 31
-
Heh, well I guess form tackles constitute holding.
-
I feel like half the time too many men in motion is called, it's just for looking weird.

Pretty rocky start for the Harbmeister.

Well that helps the cause

Wow, lucky they missed that blatant PI

Did you see the replay?

Random prediction. ND posts a score, UM adjusts and the second half is all about UM can match. Like 28-10 at halftime, but ND finishes with 31
Sticking with this, except ND didn't get a 4th, and UMs offense needed a ST TD.
-
Did you see the replay?
Yeah. If that isn't PI in South Bend, MSU is undefeated in 2013
-
Yeah. If that isn't PI in South Bend, MSU is undefeated in 2013
Receiver lost his balance and fell down on his own. Even the announcers thought it was PI initially and quickly adjusted after the replay.
-
Well, it wasn't much of a hold, either
-
Yeah. If that isn't PI in South Bend, MSU is undefeated in 2013
That game in 13 was the only game I ever attended in person at ND. That was a horrible PI call your referring to, one of several that day against Sparty. Even the ND fans I was with wholeheartedly agree.
In the play a few minutes ago, that was not even close to interference. In fact, if that receiver had. OT stumlbled he likely would have caught it.
-
Ignore the ejection and injuries. The personnel still do not make sense to me. Marshall and Mone getting starters minutes? Furbush dropping 30 yards off the line? Huh?
-

Hurst was to Michigan’s defense what Barkley is to Penn State. Mone is not an adequate replacement. Fat, soft and slow. Haven’t seen much of Hudson.
B kelly came out with a solid game plan, schooling Don Brown. He knows him well from his time at BC.
-
Michigan's path to victory: ND goes home because it can't get better at half. :- D
-
I still like Michigan in this game. Patterson has not had enough opportunities yet.
ND won’t be able to hold the ball as long in the 2nd half, because Um will shut down the run, and force Wimbush into mistakes.
-
Shocked about those total yards for UM. Felt like they moved the ball well, but stalled at critical times.
-
Shea Patterson looks so much better than any QB that I can remember at Michigan in a long time. I just had flash backs of Henson. I was like- oh so that’s what a real life QB looks like. Dude has so much talent.
-
Welp.
-
worried about DPJ. He might be more athlete than WR.
He threw a fade to the back that might’ve been a TD had DPJ kept running.
His balls skills when the ball is in the air doesn’t look up to par.
-
Kansas and Kansas St are both losing to Fcs teams in the third quarter.
-
Welp.
Ya they look like crap.
Big indictment on Harbaugh. For whatever reason he just can’t get his guys up for a big game on the road.
-
Dammit
-
Dammit
But defense gets it right back
-
Harbaugh still sucks at play calling.
The offensive tackles still suck.
-
Run for a loss of 4. Prudent move is...run it again on 2nd and 14?
-
Go for it. Have to get something going.
-
Go for it. Have to get something going.
Welp. Still like the call. These refs aren't calling anything, either way.
-
Both OCs trying to outstupid each other this half.
-
Michigan puts trips right, ND has two men within 15 yards of the line on that side. Am I missing something?
-
Both OCs trying to outstupid each other this half.
Advantage in stupid swings back to UM.
-
They look like they didn’t practice all summer. This is an indictment on coaching.
-
Why wasn’t Brad Hawkins starting over Metellus? He moves at a different speed than Mettellus.
-
UM learning to bring the pressure up the middle. He's killing the outside rush
-
Tackling by the UM LBs is abysmal. Bush is making some plays, but Hudson does not look like himself.
-
I would love to see an ND homer site for how mad they are at Tirico now
-

More bad LB tackling.

Not even close to getting the play off
-
Clearly a penalty, but does anyone have an idea why that's a rule?
-
The Bearcat D just turned UCLA over on downs, up two in the fourth.
-
Defense needs to force another TO. Every time UM does anything but short passes, they suck at it.
-
Terrible spot, they have to review that
-
Terrible spot, they have to review that
How do they not?
-
This offense is a shit show
-
RBs still can’t pass block.
Offensive tackles still suck ass.
Play calling still sucks.
The more things change, the more they stay the same. Damn.
-
Harbaugh can take a hike. I’m sick of this garbage offense.
-
Winovich is substantially better than Gary.
-
Cincinnati may well stun the Bruins on the road.
Up nine, under two to go.
-
So Peters is third string? Damn it Jeff George, this was your moment!
-
Cincinnati may well stun the Bruins on the road.
Up nine, under two to go.
I fully expected UCLA to suck, but this was the one game I thought they'd win.
-
McCaffrey leading a comeback win would lead to hilarity.
-
N Arizona is taking UTep to the cleaners.
-
Winovich is substantially better than Gary.
He’s substantially less double teamed. Love Winovich but it’s hilarious how much disrespect he gets from opposing offensive co-ordinators. I often see him single blocked or unblocked as a free rusher.
-
Glad to have learned (1) Dylan McCaffery is the back-up and (2) at 3/3 for 21 is viable. Not able to say more. But that in this situation is good to have.
-
Man, Michigan's offense is toilet quality
-
Every time they go away from the 5-7 yard passes, the drove ends. They need to just take the old Colt McCoy Texas playbook and run it to death.
-

Winovich looks unblockable at times.
-
Harbaugh has zero clue how to use offensive personnel. Sends 5’9 RB Karan Higdon who isn’t that good of a receiver or route runner on a route down the field. If you’re gonna send one of your backs on that route- use Evans.
Guy is an idiot savant.
-
At the very least, I like that look in Dylan McCaffery's eyes. Ha - Not teen crushing; he's just steady, focused, seems confident. Not that it was enough to convert at midfield, but he remains intriguing. Shea is still probably the best option, but I'm OK with DM, too.
-
Harbaugh can take a hike. I’m sick of this garbage offense.
If things don’t dramatically improve the rest of the year, including a win over the buckeyes, I can’t imagine Harbaugh surviving. This is painful. They looked unprepared from the opening drive.
-

Patterson has hit a few nice strikes down the field. Patterson can fling it.
McCaffrey on the other hand. His arm looks suspect to me.
-

He needed to hire a top flight OC this offseason and let that guy run the offense and call the plays. He didn’t.
This is Harbaugh’s offense. He needs to take the credit for how bad it is. All by himself.
-
Clock management is embarrassing
-
Man, I’m with Flutie. Nice scoring drive there by UM but, jeez, they burned more clock than they should have doing it.
-
The offense has scored a whopping 10 pts.
And Shea Patterson is the primary reason. He looks good to me. Rest of that offense. Not so much.
-
Clock management is embarrassing
Horrible. Absolutely horrible. The coaching staff should stand up after the game and apologize to the players because they absolutely sucked tonight.
-
Clock management is embarrassing
Never been a strong point for Harbagh.
He’s a motivator. Not a tactician.
-
I'd never known that Shea could also be a guy's name.
-
Might have a good finish here
-
Running a fake jet sweep just to have the QB run the same way you were trying to trick the defense into going seems par for the course for ND offense.
-
Welp, that series went about as well as Michigan could have hoped. Still have life.
-
If they are looking for places to limit contact, I'm surprised they haven't yet gotten rid of the clock stopping on first downs to match the NFL rule.
-
Welp
-
I saw a post Patterson had some crazy amount of fumbles that Ole Miss recovered. Like he had 10 fumbles, and only lost 2. But he is very fumble prone.
-
So 1-6 in rivalry games?
Are either of the other two at home this year?
-
Cesar Ruiz was LOST on that play. His fault Patterson got hit.
Harbaugh is truly an idiot savant. I don’t know what that drive was. Absolutely ridiculous. He deserves all the blame himself for this loss. He was embarrassing.
-
Akron at N Sunday at 1030am central.
-
I'd never known that Shea could also be a guy's name.
Chipper Jones named a son Shea. Mets-killer.
-

Yep, great talent, turnover machine.
-
Meanwhile, Alabama is up 44-7 vs Louisville at the half. Jesus.
-
I see UCLA lost and the gods determined UNL shouldn't play. Maybe we got the right HC after all.
-
Hawaii went from horrid in 2015 to seemingly ok in 2016 with a new staff, then regressed way back last year, only to rebound and look actually good again.
-
Akron at N Sunday at 1030am central.
Scott Frost delivering some Sunday morning drinking. Hire already paying off.
-
I am heading to a lake for water skiing and swimming and brisket. Wasn't planning on college football . At least they are gonna play. That's why we have dvr
-
Nebraska and Akron will not play Sunday it appears. Fs1 has retracted their report.
-
Yep, great talent, turnover machine.
That fumble wasn’t 100% on him.
He took pretty good care of the ball tonite despite the 2 turnovers. If that makes any sense.
-
cancelled is my report
sucks, players needed the game reps
-

Okay, so he's on pace for 24 turnovers. Would anyone care if many weren't 100% on him or if he seemed to take care of the ball if that was the case?
-
I liked Shea. I also liked Dylan. That position can always improve but it is also not a weak link.
-
Also: whereas I don't see a reason to pick someone other than Shea for the season, given how the injury took him out of the flow, I do wonder if Dylan would have been the better guy for finishing the game.
-
I'm also undecided: was the clock mismanagement on Shea or Harbaugh? Both?
-

Harbaugh.
They shouldn’t have been huddling up. Period.
Should’ve been in hurry up no huddle everyone running to the los.
To me- that’s on Harbaugh. Guy has zero clue on offense when his first plan isn’t working. He doesn’t adjust. Just keeps trying to the same shit with middling results.
-

I nodded off right before the half did Pattereson get hurt?
-
Arizona and Sumlin's offense looked awful last night. They kept throwing deep downfield as well which was odd.
-
Yeah, if you're running out the clock vs Arizona, no worries. They can't stop you when they know what you're going to do. It's sad.
-
Nebraska forfeits, Zips win.
-
I see I slept through some late hours drama, with the Y taking down Arizona and Hawaii not only beating Navy, but really beating Navy.
UTep and Kansas were both bested by FCS schools, while Kansas State needed a miraculous fourth quarter comeback in order to survive their FCS scare.
-
Harbaugh.

I think it's both. Even once fully lined up, Shea still burned an extra 8-12 seconds per snap.
-
I nodded off right before the half did Pattereson get hurt?
Probably not serious but yeah. Went to the lockerroom. Everyone seemed to be cramping. Could be that. His knee seemed to buckle once but he didn't seem to care too much.
-
Not that UTSA is great, but ASU pounded them last night. I had MSU losing to them next week, and now I REALLY don't feel good about our chances. I still don't like the Herm situation long term, but I think he inherited a pretty good roster.
-
I read that a Michigan WR hasn't caught a TD in over a year.
Fake news?
-
It's possible. Last year, Florida went like an 8-game stretch where a RB didn't score a TD. Seems nearly impossible, but it happened.
-
I have a previous employee who is now on the ASU staff.
He was a USCe football player, and got a call from his old S&C coach months ago, and he jumped on it.
I don't blame him.
I couldn't find him, but he is an assistant to the S&C coach.
Starting in the business with Herm Edwards as HC could be huge for him.

Our head S&C coach used to coach at USCe, so that's probably the connection to your previous employee

REALLY wish they could have made this happen

I know buddy.
That was my second sentence.
His name is Rivers Bedenbaugh. He was a FB.
He worked for me at UPS for a stint, and we enjoyed talking college football.
SC fans are nuts about their team, so he was quite popular around the hub.
Sad to see him go, but his potential is limitless.
-

I heard that on the radio yesterday. That is stunning. The guy hosting the show was blistering Harbaugh too. It was the College station on Sirius Ch. 84. He wasn’t pulling any punches. Really going after him.
-

It’s a hint untrue. The last WR TDS for Michigan were 9/9 last year. So we’re close.
That’s the kind of stat that sounds dramatic, but you look closer and it just belies a simpler reality or ugly stat. Last year, UM QBs three 9 touchdowns, 10 picks. This year it’s 0-1.
With last year’s numbers, 8-5 seems like a flat-out miracle
-
Through 40 games:
Hoke: 27-13, 4-5 vs OSU/Sparty/ND, 1-2 in bowl games
Harbaugh: 28-12, 1-6 vs OSU/Sparty/ND, 1-2 in bowl games
-
See? Harbaugh > Hoke. Those numbers prove it.
-
While his overall record after 40 games is clearly one metric better than that of his predecessor, the record vs rivals is the statistic that could ultimately prove problematic; particularly now that he's conceded his ability to deflect by pointing out that Hoke was able to pad the rivalry stats by taking care of the Domers with regularity.
Of course Hokes totals are a little misleading, as Hoke had a really strong first season and a really miserable fourth season. So unless the Wolverines go completely into the tank this year, those win percentages are likely to begin to separate rapidly into Hairball's favor.
-
In the vein of piling on:
Is M*ch*g*n the only team to lose OOC this week? Just like Bowl season...
-
The SEC went 13-1, with wins over #6 and #8. Only loss was to a ranked team.
B10 went 11-2, but really 11-1, since one game was a conference affair. One cancellation.
With wins over #12 and #23. Only loss was to a ranked team.
Close calls against Utah St, Appy St, and Kent St.

Thanks Penn State! One overtime victory and we already have of eSECpn is claiming the B1G will miss the playoffs. (And the other half have jumped on the OSU bandwagon.) :wtf:

FSU uniforms are awful. Now get off my lawn.

If they had just stuck to FSU-Miami on Labor Day, we'd never know they both suck

The helmets are fine, the uniforms are trash.

Beamer Ball alive and well.

I'm sorry the previous post made me wonder how each conference did. And Alabama didn't have either of the wins vs. top 10 teams, so......
-
The helmets are fine, the uniforms are trash.
If I was flipping through the channels, I'd think VT was playing maybe Louisiana-Monroe or something. FSU has one of the great uniforms in college football, and they want to look like ULM.
-
FSU has one of the great uniforms in college football.
Relinquish thy Gator-card.
-
It's true.
Michigan's were great until Harbaugh took over and got rid of the yellow and made the blue dark enough to be called black.
LSU's are great, USC's,....Washington was a dope to go to a purple helmet those couple of years when Corey Dillon was there.
I know 19 year olds love these alternate....things....but you don't mess with the classics.

First time I realized that there were so many Tigers in that conference. I love how they're sitting together...
-
Bulldogs sitting together too.
-
Bulldogs sitting together too.
Ha, I learned another thing!
-
Bulldogs are people too.
-
First time I realized that there were so many Tigers in that conference. I love how they're sitting together...
Tigers and Dogs together (Tenn and A&M also got Dog treatment)
We don't have any Tigers in the B1G, we should liberate one of the Tigers.
-
The Wildcat is sitting with the Tigers too.
The Acc is the only P5 without a Wildcat. That needs to be rectified, post haste.
-
I checked out two Texas message boards. They still think Maryland sucks. It's tough to impress a blue-blood...
-
I imagine they are in meltdown and/or denial. Probably should take a look at the Miami and FSU boards too, so long as you're checking in on that stuff.
:93:

Are they saying; "Maryland sucks, Texas just sucks that much more"?
-
yes

I thought the Miami Hurricane uniforms were terrible
the green shoulders were ugly

I doubt there's such thing as a Miami board, lol

How accurate are Lee Corso's picks on College GameDay? Meet the man who tracks them

-
I have always wondered why people thought the Corso pick was a curse. He provides increasingly little insight, and it seems like he hedges towards picking the home team, which make sense in big games. But he gets it right about 2/3 of time. Is that great? Nah. Better than average? Maybe. But certainly not some curse
-
People love strawmen/scapegoats.
-
I understand he's not doing too well lately. Had a stroke, or some such.
-
They should've taken him off the air 2-3 years ago. He slurs his words together often. It's sad. It'll happen to all of us if we live long enough. No need broadcasting it week after week.
-
Now that Labor Day weekend has passed, might as well get the MAACCtion thread up and running.
Iron Skillet on Friday.

I just discovered tonight that this guy is on reality TV with his wife. Some insufferable show that I see my wife has discovered. He actually appears to be the only interesting character on the show. Not enough to make want to ever see it again.

Not sure if you ever saw the show "The League", about fantasy football. It was based in Chicago and at one point he and his wife were part of the storyline. And their baby, referred to as "The Cutlet"...
But yeah, she was a reality TV "star" prior to them getting together.
-
The Stangs are giving TCU a dogfight.
14-12 at the half.
-
We call 'em the Ponies down here. And the Frogs.
Frogs were caught sleeping early but seem to be waking up.
-
Should be the Frawgs. C'mon, now.

Do we get a new SOC thread every week?
Because it's GAME DAY!
Looks to be the 2nd week in a row, I'll get to impersonate a duck. You know cause it's so wet outside.

Max generally makes certain we do. He and ELA (and me rarely) are the ones who normally start them. Max gets creative with titles. And this thread is... OVAH!
