.... nice shadow box... and it played by the rules for once!

y'all were asking about images and posting, this may be the answer?  we can post them small and blow them up in the shadow box... to see details or some such.

The capability of posting photos from a PC is something, but these are really small. Can you make it downsize the file automagically so there isn't so much work involved? This is a good effort to allow more capability, but boy it is a lot of work just to gloat about human history :)

I can do that, and make it work.... if i understand you correctly.... but have you tried just pasting the url (address) of the image in the post?  it may not look like a pic when you do, but if you 'preview' it should, and that is what is rendered when you post... if that isn't working i'll have to figure out why... if you 'upload', as in take a pic off your own computer (not one already hosted somewhere) I can certainly make that easier, too...

looky RIGHT below the form you type in on the 'post reply' page- there is a "add image to post" text (I'll make it a button in a bit)... that does what you ask, I'm thinking, no?

drag-n-drop can't get any easier, right?<br />(https://www.cfb51.com/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fthumb.ibb.co%2Ffb6aGF%2Fbacksplash53.png&hash=007eb82b3a70e1fde8dcc2eda76d36f4) (http://ibb.co/fb6aGF)<br />

Yes -- I used that button to test for posting pics. But the allowed photo sizes posted from a computer, are really small. And that's okay if you need to save drive space and not result in having to scroll right and left because someone posted a huge photo.

But I was posting an image from the early 2000s which would be about 2.2 mb, relatively small -- and it is way too large for the website, so I had to move the photo into -- in my case Paperport, and crop most of the photo, copy it to another file in paperport and then post the cropped photo.

I participate occasionally on a gardening forum, and you can post your photos, and if you have a 16 mb photo, their software reduces it to about 640 x 400 size, or whatever size they accept -- no matter what size your original was -- it gets reduced to the size the forum can handle, automatically. It didn't use to do that 15 years ago -- at that time I would have to figure a way out to reduce the size of the photo posted, which I could do in Photobucket, but that meant uploading it to a separate site, and messing around with the size, and saving it, and then uploading it to the gardening site -- the new way is lickety split. By the way the site is www.gardenweb.com if that helps to visualize and example, and they have 100 or so gardening forums.

OH- THE SIZE!!!!! (that's what she said).... Yup..... I can fix that!!! (without weird physical therapy or prescription medication "..Bob uses enzym..."..)  :)

give it another shot?

so.... no matter what you load, it will render at 500x500 at the largest inside the post, BUT, if you click it the pic will render full size in the shadow box.

i set no limit on individual pic weight (file size), but I did put a ten pic limit per post.  IF anyone ever posts or needs to legitimately post more than ten in a single post, a mod will be along to merge the posts for them.

If this works then you are a genius. Let's try it:

Guess where:

You are high functioning. I tried posting two pics in one post, but only one posted. I probably screwed up not knowing how to put up two. C'est la vie. I like it.

If you keep this up I'll have more fun here than I ever did on the predecessor sites.

you fellers helped me find a flaw in the code!!!

I fixed it, but couldn't touch it until after I cleared the attachments folder... I 'think' it's fixed now, but I'm watching it closely to make sure we don't run into this again when traffic hits.

another test to see if the memory module holds up this time.

fidgeting with the sizes of these pics is giving me fits...

it turns out the pics you guys posted wasn't the problem..... it was the monsters I posted in the first post.  they rendered like they were supposed to- decently small and decently large in the shadowbox- but the pictures were actually HUGE- like, four times my screen's size large- and it was zapping the memory of the computer I was using to try to simply load the page.

i have the memory set purposely small for this reason, and to catch these issues.  you guys may or may not have encountered issues with it.

so... I'm going to have to use some sort of limit, or risk crashing the threads on some peoples computers on threads that have a lot of big pics... I'll find a balance somewhere and post up what i find.

Interesting you should say that it was your computer - - I didn't have that issue on mine, and I think my video card--if that's what controls large picture displays--isn't that great. I'll try out a large pic on you to see if it works.

works like a charm!!!

of course the computer I'm on now has all kinds of ass when it comes to memory... I'll have to dial it back and try, which I'll do later (and why I'm posting about it- reminder).

Might as well play around with some attractive images.   That's a brat bun to you poor suckers that have to deal with imposter hot dog buns.

Checking the old tables for Stupid Upset Picks, my only meaningful contribution anymore.  Hm.. seems like the table borders don't work anymore, or at least the code might be slightly different than on scouts (for example, this board uses brackets, the other board used <>).  This works well enough.
