Title: Best #22

Good luck.  Happy hunting.  College only.  Safety first.  Vote to see results.

Man, Bobby Lane was something special in his time.  But there are a lot of names on this list that have likely eclipsed him.  Gonna take some thought, but I'm glad you included him, he at least deserves a mention.

For some of these I've really got to go back and separate their college careers from their pro careers, Emmitt Smith being a prime example.  I recall him being very good in coilege, but my impression of his overall achievement is definitely affected by his fantastic pro career.

Emmitt had a big FR year, hurt as a SOPH (still over 900 yds), then a huge JR year and left early.  Rhett overtook him as Florida's all-time leading rusher, but played/started an extra season.

Still owns the single season and single game rushing record at UF, though.

The "by my eyes" is crushing me here.  The most ordinary RB to win the Heisman in my lifetime vs. a very good, but not close to generational CB, over a bunch of probably more deserving choices.

That's what I vaguely recall about Emmitt's career.  I definitely remember his injured soph season but him still being able to produce.

Knowing what he meant to my favorite NFL team is making it hard for me to be objective here.   Not that objectivity is necessarily called for here. :)

I'll have to continue to think about it.

I too like seeing some of the older names on this list, but I didn't hesitate in voting for Flutie.  He was a lot more than a Hail Mary (and that awesome skit on SNL where they melted his Heisman).

I find we really do put a ceiling on guys who don't break through and win a Heisman.

Justice here, and #5 Darren McFadden finished 2nd in the voting twice each, but aren't up on that pedestal as if they each had one bigger season and had that trophy to show for it.  I could argue McFadden's career at Arkansas was better than Bo's at Auburn, but the consensus isn't nearly that.

Should be interesting then as we soon (I assume) are more or less done with Heisman winners?

A lot of the old-timer guys had wacky numbers, so they'll still pop up, including many in the 30s.  This should stay pretty juicy into the mid 30s, pick back up in the low 40s, and then get pretty stale through the 50s and 60s.

If I live that long.

imo.. the vote is for Flutie or Smith.  I went with Smith.   Not sure there is a wrong answer between the 2

I really wish it was easier for people to only consider college play.  If Flutie had gone on to become the NFL leader in passing yardage and Smith wound up in Canada, I don't think the vote would be nearly as close.

glad I'm not the only one to vote Bobby Lane

no Lynn Swann?

Shyt.  Totally forgot him.  Do you think he's worth re-doing the whole vote?

nope

but, he may have been worthy of mention - doubt he'd get many votes

We don't need extra days on 21-24, just going to lock them and move on.  I still don't know why they weren't set at 4 days like all the rest.  Meh.

Ha, and I actually am not the other vote for Bobby Lane.  I totally forgot to come back and vote on this one, but probably would have voted Flutie if I had.

We've got a 9, 9, 22, 32, and 11 there.

I wasn't and still not a fan of Flutie for Heisman

some little guys have won it and deserve it, but Flutie wasn't as tough as Troy Davis
