Wow, well congrats to the GOAT. He's certainly earned it.
-
About time. He'd really started falling down on the job. First time he hasn't won a NC in a 3-yr period, what a joke he'd become. Goes out like a real schmuck, only winning the SEC, again.

Almost laughable but there is a non-zero chance that he was encouraged to retire for this very reason.
Talk about some big shoes to fill. And it almost seems unfair that OU/Tex may be joining the SEC at the exact time Alabama begins to look human. Yes, I know Texas beat Alabama in 23. Try playing the undisputed GOAT for the next 12 years and let me know how that goes.

I can tell you how it went for us. 5-12 in the regular season against him at Bama, 5-13 total, counting the NC game.
We probably beat them more than most, but it still wasn't much.

Well he'd be 84 by then so I think I'd like our chances pretty well.

Horns are 2-2 against the GOAT. You got to see that first Longhorn victory over Saban up close and personal.

Hmm….I know of the last two…plus the BCSCCG in 09. What are the other two? MSU days? LSU ? Surely not Kent State?

He's talking about the Cotton Bowl after the 2002 season, when Saban's LSU team lost to Texas.
Whatever. That was a decent team that started 6-1 until the QB and some others got hurt for the year, went 2-3 the rest of the way, finishing 8-4 and got matched up against a 10-2 Texas in the Cotton, where we predictably lost, handily. Actually, we did well until the second half when the Horns quit screwing around and remembered we didn't have a QB. I don't know anybody who expected to win that game.
Next year the QB was healthy again and we won an NC, so that washed away whatever disappointment lingered about the good season 2002 was shaping up to be for a while.
ALTHOUGH. We did get the Bluegrass Miracle with that backup QB, and that's not something any LSU fan from those days will ever forget.

Ah, I forgot about that game. That was a good Texas team as well.
