Title: #3 Michigan (7-0, 10-0) at Maryland (3-4, 6-4) Game Week
Post by: Temp430 on November 14, 2023, 12:24:36 PM
Game can be seen at Noon Saturday on Fox.  Michigan is favored by 18.5 the last time I looked.  May be a trap game for the Wolverines.

I said this before the season even began and it is the only reason to have even the slightest doubt as to the outcome of this game.

September Maryland (through halftime of the tOSU) game was a good team but October/November Maryland, well they lost 51-15 at home to the team the Michigan just beat.

That said, at the end of the day the players are kids. Michigan's players just won an emotional win in a huge match-up against a top-10 opponent with B1GCG implications. Their game after this is a huge rivalry game against the #1 team in the CFP rankings with enormous B1G and CFP implications.

Michigan is extremely unlikely to be as focused and intense this week as they were last week and will be next week. Realistically, October/November Maryland hasn't been good enough to take advantage of that.

This is only a game if Michigan comes out flat/disinterested AND September Maryland reappears. Even then Michigan probably wins but at least it will be close.

yup. trap game if there ever was one. it's sandwiched in between a tough spot for Michigan. Maryland stinks on defense but Tua JR can go through spurts where he's hot and if Maryland can score they can possibly turn it into a shoot out.

Forgot what year it was, maybe 2018 or 2019- but reminds me of that year Ohio State had to play them on the road the week before THE GAME and it was a shoot out. Next week however, Ohio State proceeded to blow the doors right off of Michigan.

2018:
Ohio State's game against Maryland was sandwiched between a pretty good MSU team (ranked #18 at game-time) and a very good (ranked #4) Michigan team.

Interestigly, Ohio State had a lot less trouble with MSU (won by 20, 26-6) and Michigan (won by 23, 62-39) than they did with Maryland. The Buckeyes needed a late TD just to get to OT and only won because they stopped Maryland 2pt Conversion attempt after Maryland scored what otherwise would have been a tying TD.

I don't think Maryland has much of a chance but they shouldn't have had much chance against tOSU in 2018 either.

still...it's on the road....and these kids just had an all out battle vs a great defense and top 10 team on the road after going through an emotional roller coaster. Now they have to go on the road the week before THE GAME.

Easy spot to see a bunch of 18-22 year olds kinda go through the motions and not be focused and locked in after going through a draining physical game vs Penn State and looking ahead to an EPIC showdown in Ann Arbor vs a top 3 Ohio State team in THE GAME.

Agree but.... Maryland sucks

Should be able to wake up in the 4th quarter and still win.

Maybe Michigan doesn't cover because the Terps changed signs but a win is gonna happen

Michigan DT Kris Jenkins has been dealing with a high ankle sprain- which are nagging painful injuries- which might explain why we've seen more Kenneth Grant and Rashaun Benny and his snap count has been lower. He's back to 100% per DL Coach Mike Elston. Just in time for Maryland and THE GAME.
