It's gotten worse over the years, and I don't believe it's just incompetence of the referees. I think there is something more sinister going on behind the scenes.
Either the SEC is conspiring to get certain teams into the play off, there is gambling being done by referees, family members or friends or bribery by the book makers to get the outcomes in certain games they want or need.
The fiasco in the officiating of the Alabama/TN game Saturday was so obvious in the way the penalties were called or not called left no doubt the fix was in.
That's my opinion and it will not change so unless it gets investigated and people held accountable college football has been destroyed as a game for the players and fans alike.

I'm generally of the opinion to never attribute to malice what can be attributed to incompetence. I also think people are full of biases, some of which can't be overcome. i.e., you may have it in your head that LSU DBs of yesteryear are amazing and whatever should look like holding to you doesn't look like holding because LSU DBs are amazing and they don't hold to make great plays. A subconscious circular reasoning of sorts. Not out to screw a team, but the result is the same.
That said, in light of credible evidence I'd be open to changing my mind. Some people do shady things, refs are likely no different.

SEC refs look pretty freaking amazing to me.
I don't wish B12 refs on any of you.
