This one appears to be for all the BTW marbles. The team that wins has the inside track, and definite advantage. The betting line opens with Wisconsin favored by 4.5 points.
Other news, Kirk Ferentz hopes to have news by Tuesday on whether Iowa DL Noah Shannon's eligibility will be restored. Noah Shannon bet on an Iowa team other than football and under the new rules that went into effect, I think in May, lost all his eligibility. Under newer rules, it appears he would be required to complete a course on NCAA gambling rules. The NCAA was set to vote in a few weeks, but there have been complaints about unfairness in such a lengthy delay.
Noah Shannon has remained on with the team as a "student assistant." I would guess he has lifted weights and trained for the NFL combine. It would be great to see him back for the Wisconsin game. We'll see what happens.
If punting were winning, Iowa would win as in this metric Iowa is 2nd in FBS net punting, whereas Wisconsin is 27th. However, since Vanderbilt is 1st in net punting, we know Iowa cannot win on punting alone. Hence, this is a Wisconsin no-brainer win.

In his first start against Purdue, Iowa QB Deacon Hill was 6-21 for 100+ yards, 1TD, 1 int. For QB rating of 2.
Of the 6 completions, 5 went to TE Eric All and none went to a WR.
What can you say, Hill just looked awful in first start. Hill was never meant to be the starter this year. Was supposed to be 3rd string behind Cade McNamara and Joey Labas. I see Labas is back on the depth chart, but I am not sure if he is really healthy yet.
You got to wonder how long the coaches stick with Hill before pulling him for Labas. I figure Hill has 2 more games to get his sh! t together. You never know, Hill might have the game of his life against Wisc, his former team.
I wonder if former Iowa QBs Alex Padilla or Duece Higan are kicking themselves for transferring, but it's hard to stick around after your coach insults you

Gimme Wisconsin in a low scoring slugfest. Winner takes the B1G W.

I would double the TE

I would double the TE
I guess on Eric All's TD catch against Purdue, he lined up as a fullback. So I don't know if that actually counts as a TE catch or a RB catch.
-
I'm guessing Hunter Wohler will be spying All for the most part.
-
well, if I were the D-coordinator..........
I'd double anyone lined up as a TE and anyone that played TE wherever they were lined up. split out or in the backfield.
pretty sure that would ruin Brian's game plan

If Wisconsin wins they can book their trip to Indy. They'd be 3-0 and nobody else in the division would be over .500:
- Iowa would be 2-2 and have a loss to UW
- Purdue would have to beat Ohio State to get to 2-2, otherwise they'll be 1-3 and either way they already lost to UW
- Northwestern will be 1-2
- Minnesota will be 1-2
- Nebraska will be 1-2
- Illinois would have to win at Maryland to get to 1-3
-
not so fast my friend.......
Huskers could upset the Badgers in Lincoln and win out.
the remaining Husker schedule is not that difficult.
although, the Huskers have not been impressive
-
Let's not be silly. Even Iowa scores more than Nebraska.
-
not the offense
-
5 out of the 7 teams in the Big Ten West are now averaging less than the 25 points per game threshold established by former Iowa AD Gary Barta for Brian Ferentz. Also 6 teams total in the Big Ten are now averaging less than 22 points per game.
It makes me wonder if a new standard for mininumly acceptable offensive efficiency has been established like the Mendoza Line in baseball.
Will it forever be known as the Barta Line or the Ferentz Line? I think I prefer referring to it as the Barta Line. It could even be extended to any minimum measurement that you need to meet to keep your job.
-
maybe the F Brian line

Tale of two teams, from one end to the other.

Badgers win this at home. Badgers even have a shot at upsetting the Buckeyes Oct. 28th. The rest of their schedule is manageable.

Interesting graph. Wish I understood it. I guess it means Purdue dominated some statistic against Iowa but still lost the game. Wisc dominated some statistic against Rutgers but only won by 11. MD and OSU were fairly close in some statistic even though OSU won by 20. And Michigan totally annihilated Minn in every category you can think of.

To add to this, Iowa is actually 3rd in the 7-team West Division in points per game and 8th overall in the 14-team Big Ten!

nothing to be proud of Rusty
104th in the nation, just behind Northwestern

Let’s not go crazy with that OSU bit.

Right.
-
well, I went plum crazy with the idear that the Huskers might upset the Badgers

Road games are generally hard.

Let’s not go crazy with that OSU bit.
Did you watch the Maryland @OSU game last Saturday?
-
I think Maryland is a good team, and OSU was without its best tailback.
-
If tOSU keeps trying to pound round pegs into square holes, Wisconsin can definitely get them.
Now if tOSU actually starts having their offense do what they are best at, that is a different tOSU team.

Keys to this game:
Run the football.
Stop the run.
Pressure the QB.
So yeah. Football.
Iowa has a good run defense, as do the Badgers.
Iowa's QB cannot run at all, unlike the Badger QB, who has good wheels.
If weather is a factor, the UW passing game could suffer. Iowa has no passing game so that's moot. I don't think UW will force passing if it can move the ball on the ground.
UW is at home.
First team to 17 wins.
UW 24
Iowa 10

Let’s not go crazy with that OSU bit.
I had it circled as a very possible "L" at nite in MadTown
-
Wisconsin 22, Iowa 17
-
4-3 final.
-
Now on another note. The annual Rusty Toolbox Trophy football game is being held tomorrow night between Iowa and Wisconsin. I see the Badgers winning this renowned athletic event by a score of 14 to 7.
Hope it's being prodcast on Big + and not on Peacock.

This writer was wrong on both points.
-
1. Iowa's punter wins the game ball.
2. UW's KO returner and play calling get an assist.
3. The Badgers are a mess.

I had a hunch that those that thought Luke Fickell could turn things around in just 1 year were being a little optimistic. But it's not over for Wisc. Iowa is not good enough to win out. Iowa could lose at least once and maybe even twice more.

LF inherited this mess, and it's a bigger mess than I thought.

I think The staff will do a good job when it’s all said and done. They are not doing a good job right now.
-
I think the staff will do a good job when they get more of their own players.
I wish they would adapt better to what they have.
The run defense is bad.
The pass offense is bad.
KO return is bad (STOP returning it).
-
very even game except for one play
80 yard run for a TD
other than that the rock fight we expected
neither team is good
as Rhule said in his bye week press conference, "we can beat any team left on the schedule. Any team on the schedule can beat us."
no one in the west seems to have an offense
no west QBs that are left standing are good

Yup you called it,he'd look good in Madison with 2 down in the QB room

Behind a paywall do they really think anyone would pony up? Unless they're really having trouble sleeping. Oh waite you could be on to something there

Punting is winning and got Iowa to the 1982 Rose Bowl with a great defensive team, and so-so offense.
If Iowa makes it to the Big Ten Championship game will Iowa win? Anything can happen, but I don't know of any huge upsets in the Big Ten Championship Game.
-
Iowa has a fantastic punter and great defense. I guess that's all you need to win the Big Ten West.
-
I'll give you that the punter is probably the best in college football
not sure the defense is great, but good enough to shutdown Big Ten West offenses and Iowa St.
it's more than any other team in the West
