Those refs were bought and paid for.

But UT beat themselves.

Ol Joe practices lights out, apparently, because if you guys remember he won the job over hooker... without an injury we'd never have seen hooker on the field.  He doesn't inspire players,  and he's just plain dumb.  So long as he's at the helm, every game will either be close or embarrassing for UT.  Every one.

Late in the game, when he wasn't playing scared- aka with nothing to lose- he suddenly started hitting his targets- he didn't overthink it, he just hit the primary receiver. ..... amazing how that worked.

I hate it for Joe, but he just ain't got much other than a strong arm.

Heupel’s last 2 road games USCe and now FL against supposedly inferior teams and coaches we haven’t even been competitive…..our guy is quickly beginning to look like just another guy

I got the sense last year that this team got intimidated on the road.  Our OL clearly wasn't prepared to handle the noise - how many false starts did they have?

I know a lot of fans are going to be eager to throw Milton under the bus. Listening to a Knoxville call in show this morning ...that seems to be the theme.
I agree Milton played badly but this was a complete  team meltdown.
The defense was awful the first half, the offensive line was terrible the entire game, pass defense was a joke and the game plan was bad.....Haup's worst game since coming to UT. Why was 90% of all passes horizontal until the game was out of reach when you have the strongest arm in the universe?
Hope they learn from this game and got that out of their system. There seems to be no dominate team in the SEC this year.

Seems like they had at least 7-8 false starts. We were always starting out 1st and 15.

They are probably right about Milton.  Last year Hooker had the second highest QBR rating.  After last night Milton is down from 79 to 81.

Heupels offense is much better when the QB can and wants to run a little …..Heupel has seen Milton for 3 years so it’s totally on him for not recognizing the need for a ready to go QB for this season

In my opinion there is a massive gap between what Milton "can" do, and what he actually does.

He won the job over hooker- that can't be repeated enough.  He practices very well, apparently.  He can't translate.

I freakin want him to be a world stomping bad ass best QB ever delivered to the game- but he isn't.  And the differences between this year and last are all vertical- what is the ratio of vertical passes to high percentage dink and dunk glorified runs? ..... its much higher than hookers...

Last night was NOT all Milton.  NOT even close.  But... I didn't see one UT player in the faces of any other UT player or rallying once.  The team has a chemistry problem.

Milton isn't a "play-maker."  He can't throw accurately on run - his good passes are when his feet are planted.  If he was always guaranteed a clean pocket, Milton might still be the choice over Hooker.  Personally, I think he should be pitching for Vitello instead of Heupel.

Agreed - the team lacks (player) leadership.

Well VOL fans it's gonna be a long season. I think Heupel is trying to prove he's right and everyone else is wrong about Milton because he made the mistake of bringing him to TN. That might go over at a school like UCF but if it keeps up the moving van will be at his front door.

You're not going to win in the SEC running the football with a chuck and duck passing game.

The QB should be the offensive leader and the rest of the offense responds to how he is playing regardless of who it is.  And we are seeing that with how poorly this offense is playing.

Milton can't stretch the defense passing and opponents know it. That's not all of his problems either. The play calling is mediocre at best because of his limitations.

The secondary is still the weakest part of the defense and if a player doesn't know how or is afraid tackle then he shouldn't be playing. That's all on the secondary coach.  Martinez has been on more coaching staffs than Carter has liver pills, and he isn't any better than the last time he was at TN.

Fans in Baton Rouge have a very different recollection.

Now this can be unfair, because it's a snapshot, but with UT down 2 scores in the 4th quarter, there was more than one quick cutaway to Milton on the sideline, and he's laughing and joking with teammates.

That's not the time/situation to be doing that if you're a leader.
