I just hate that for them.
-
The only thing that could be better would be if Spurrier was still coaching
-
They would not be this bad with Spurrier
-
We need to go down there and beat them by 3 or 4 TDs. Make a statement.
I kinda doubt that'll happen.
Let's see what Overthrow Joe's got this Saturday.
High hopes. Reasonable expectations.

Call me a pollyanna, but I think we're going to see the Joe Milton that whupped Clemson.

Florida has a bye week next week and then host UT...
That's bad for them... they couldn't find a rhythm tonight and won't have a chance until they meet us.
That is the exact opposite issue we had traditionally when CFB still made sense. Early in the season getting the parts and pieces moving in unison is the most important thing- and to be done fast. It requires game speed. That can't be practiced. UT gets two games, as UF traditionally did, to get it together.
If we play the team that showed up tonight amd we're 75% of what we were in the orange bowl, UF is gonna cry.

Florida was a crucial mistake waiting to happen tonight over and over
Being on the road definitely played a role and so they’ll be home against us but we’d have to be just as mistake prone as they were tonight to not win comfortably down there

Honestly, and I'm actually serious, vandy looked a lot better than Florida. I'm talking about execution vs expectations from either school..... offensively, defensively, and special teams- the entire gambit.
-
Was Florida's offensive line that bad or was Utah's defensive line that good?
Florida had zero run game.

Utah is that good and Florida is that bad

If that keeps up one has to wonder if some of his recruits will bail on him

If they don't improve over the next 3-4 weeks ,Napier will be gone before seasons end. Their fan forum is calling this a clown show

I thought this was a thread about the hurricane...
And yeah, UF just plan sucks. It will not shock me if Napier gets canned - this week.

This week? I think they wait until midway into season and see what the landscape looks like in that point and time.
-
Firing him now wouldn't change anything, and cost $$$. If they go 5-7 or worse, he might get canned at end of season of course. I think a new HC merits at least 3 seasons aside from cause. But he might not get that.
-
I'd do it now, honestly. Get a jump on the search. The 2024 class is gonna take a beating no matter what, but they can name a coach in November before the early signing period.
Down the road at UCF is a guy named Gus.

I would enjoy watching Florida endure a 10-15 season stretch of futility and mediocrity such as we have had (may it now be over!). During which they suffered an annual ass-whipping from us.
Unfortunately, even if that happens, it will coincide with the destruction of what we have known as College Football.
The Biden voters, in their unending quest to fuck up EVERYTHING, have succeeded in turning CFB into a half-assed NFL Lite after this season. The SEC is becoming, not a conference, but a LEAGUE.
As someone pointed out: "why have conferences at all?"
Indeed. Why not three 25-30 team Leagues?
The South Everybody League (SEL); The Big 10 Blue State League; and all the Mid-Majors and whatnot?
Ugh.
And what does this do to Hoops?
UGH.
I remain grateful I wasn't born ONE MINUTE later than I was.

I think Napier's buyout is $30,000,000.
They're going to improve, and if Tennessee doesn't bring their A-Game to Gainesville they will lose.
-
Richardson, last year, was the only reason UF was in that game until the end... that and coach clown Billy played four downs every drive throwing caution to the wind.
Richardson is gone. That kid back there now has no protection and after the first quarter he had no faith in that O line it was obvious. They showed some life near the end with that one receiver- other than that one receiver, they have nothing.
....we're actually stacked at DB.
If the game is closer than 10 in Gainesville it's because they're in UTs head... and that may be the case. The issues UF has isn't recoverable quickly.
-
For once in a blue moon I agree with Fuzz.
The Gaturds are a different team in the swamp.. They've ruined Tennessee' s season down there more than once
-
That's why I say we need to win by 3 or 4 TDs. Make a statement. Assert ourselves.
This is not yesterday's UT.
I really like Coach Heup's MEASURED go-for-broke mentality. And it carries over to the whole culture. Bring the heat like crazy against Bama their last possession -- it coulda backfired, and almost did. Dude dropped what coulda been a TD. But it was the calculated and right thing to do. Our secondary wasn't going to hold up unless their QB was under duress. As we saw against USC. Don't know what happened there but...
it's worth taking note that was an away game. In a very hostile environment. Against a team the Gators slaughtered. A week earlier, I think (yes, they had AR).
So: I'm hoping to see a well-oiled machine. I'm hoping to see Joe throw well placed missles and in-stride 70-yard bombs.
And blowouts our first three games...
and beyond.

Probably not real but ....

Unless the rails come completely off Florida, Napier won’t be moving on this year. Take away the penalties and stupid mistakes and they would have been in the game. Utahs defensive front is as good as ours. Florida has a couple of freshmen that look good and will be better.
Mertz threw for 333 yards, partly because they couldn’t run. He didn’t look bad. If we get pressure on Mertz, he starts playing poorly. Their offensive line is a problem, as is ours. I will be down there for the game, and hope we beat them handily, but first real away game, at night, in the swamp, isn’t an easy win. When we win, you can get to your car down there without the nonsense. When we lose, it seems to bring out the worst.
-
Great to see Heupel's name isn't on the list....
-
Someone at Wikipedia put the dumbest picture possible of Heupel on his wiki page:

I think with "good coaching" Florida could improve through the season and be decent by the end of the year? Maybe. That will be a way to check on Napier. I wouldn't fire him yet.
I can't see Kirby Smart being remotely interested in that job.

Luke Fickell... No chance. Dude turned down ND, USC, LSU, UF, etc. Didn't even take their phone calls.
He's not leaving UW to go to Florida. Won't even take the phone call.

Looks like you'd better move the honorable Reverend Dion Sanders up that list.

I'm thinking Foley was supremely competent and took UF to success above their natural ceiling, and with his departure all things readjust. Napier was a dumb hire and isn't capable of winning at this level of play. I think UF's handling of the NIL leaves much to be desired- if anyone didn't follow that I'll fill you in cliff note style.
This doesn't make them not dangerous- as they could/can pull off an upset... But I'm guessing 7-5 is their roof and 6-6 being a reasonable expectation.
The albatross of them owning us is over I believe... Coach huep has them believing, again.

If Tennessee doesn't bring their A-game against UTSA, USC, UK, Mizzou, TAMU, et. al. --
they will lose.
We knew that UF would set the tone for the rest of the season. Tone officially set. 6-6 or worse is a REAL possibility.
I think we can do 8-4. A top 25 regular season finish is still possible. Yes, with Joe at QB. If you concede Bama and UGA -- I don't, you never know -- that means we can only lose one more to the rest of the batch.
Suddenly, that's a tall order. Doesn't look particularly likely. But it CAN be done. There's a lot of talent on this roster. We ain't top 5, ain't gonna win the conference, ain't gonna make the playoffs. The pressure's off. Let's just go out and freekin' PLAY, man. Play hard. Play loose. Have fun.
Joe -- for the luvva Mike -- put a little more AIR under those long throws (an homage to Mike Gottdfried. Him and Ron Franklin -- second only to John Ward himself. Those were the days...). PLEASE.
You had Keyton all alone on the second series. Missed him by five yards. It was ten back in '21; an improvement... but still.
And you had Squirrel with a step and a half on the final drive: just. out. of. reach.
We'll never know how accurate another end zone pass was on the same drive, cuz their guy WAS PULLING ON OUR GUY'S JERSEY for about five or ten yards. RIGHT IN FRONT OF THE FREEKIN' REF.
Sumbich.

Joe Milton could overthrow a government.

Joe Milton could overthrow a government.
Man -- you got it.
I turned that game off after his INT. I've reached the age where I just ain't got time fo' dat. I had it on record -- if we somehow came back and won (unlikely), I could watch it, zip through the half-hour woke commercial breaks, and save myself the dyspepsia.
I kept monitoring the score. Ugh.
Finally turned it back on with 5 left. Down by the final score. Two TDs, we win. Not out of the question.
The first damn play I saw, when I turned it on, was UF 4th and 1 at their 35. We jump offside.
So. Damn. Typical.
No way in hell they were gonna run a play. They set us up: we fell for it.
That's some smart football, huh?
We stopped 'em, though. Get the ball back. Good field position. Three to play (penalty cost us 2 crucial minutes).
Joe moves us downfield like a champ. Good passes, well placed. Get into scoring position -- misses squirrel by a foot. Two other crappy throws. And an uncalled PI.
Ugh.
Joe.
You know what's going to happen, right? Maybe they put Nico in at some point, maybe not.
But somebody's gonna take a chance on Joe in the pros. Either 6th round, or FA.
He's seduced two coaches with that arm. That frame. "That is the making of a GREAT QB."
Some pro team is gonna put him on the roster, see if they can polish the diamond.
Ain't gonna happen.
"Joe -- here is a quarter. Go call your mother, and tell her you'll never be a quarterback."
-
I laugh when people say Milton can throw a football ninety yards. So what the receiver was only forty yards down the field.
Lets see if Heupel has the balls Saban has to start another QB after an embarrassing loss.
The odds on that are a 1000 to 1, Milton is his project and he will not admit it was a mistake to bring him to TN and that Harbaugh benched him for the same reason we are seeing now.
-
Fyi...Milton threw 34 passes and had 2 overstrows but its sometimes rather difficult to be accurate when
3-4 defenders hanging on you.
Not making excuses for Milton, he had a bad game . I thought his game management was worse than his passing accuracy.
but Milton was not the only one with a bad game, the offensive line, the defensive backs and the entire defenfense in the first half and the coaching was the worst in the Haup Era. We threw almost zero passes vertical until the game was out of reach , this with the strongest arm in the universe.
So if we're going to fire the QB for a bad game are we also going to fire the coaches, the offensive line, the defensive first team and the coaching staff?
-
Milton doesn't throw catchable balls most of the time they're like a froze rope and the receivers can't adjust to the them or handle how hard he throws at times. His percentage is high because of all the screens he throws. Passes over ten yards his percentage drops way off with under thrown passes, throwing behind and over throwing receivers. Everyone can see it except the guy who makes the decision to play him.
Like Sterling Hinton who lost his starting job to freshman Andy Kelly Joe's a great practice QB.
And the entire offense knows what we know and is responding to how the QB plays plus they can't stay on the field long enough to give the defense a rest.

We got us a ticklish little situation here.
I agree with those that point out: Hooker played behind Mays and Wright.
So did Joe last year -- and he looked pretty good when he did. He hasn't had that luxury this year.
Joe came out that first series and looked PERFECT. They floundered their first series. We looked like we were playing Mizzou or UK last year on ours. I thought "here we go. A 3 or 4 TD beatdown of 'em, in the Swamp. Just what the doctor ordered."
But oh, that overthrow of Keyton on the next series, as I recall...
What a difference that might've made. Why, Joe? Why throw it 70, when 60's a TD?
Look -- Joe didn't lose that game.
But he sure didn't win it, either.
I think we got to ride Joe a little further. But the ticklish part is: how far?
You throw Nico in behind a weak line, you can destroy his confidence. He's our franchise. That's not a good idea.
But if Joe continues to struggle, and Nico sits -- hello, transfer portal?
We need Joe to do better. We need Mays back. Cuz I'm telling you -- one of these days, Joe's gonna have one of those games. In a zone. Unconscious. Putting the ball where it needs to go. Toting the rock for a 40-yard ride, when the play calls for it.
I just hope it's not against Vandy. Needs to happen sooner. Next week wouldn't be too soon.
-
Good post. I agree with most. The only thing I might add is the coaches see these guys practice every day and if they thought Nico gave them the best chance to win then he would be starting.
The only reason Nico would start now would be if the coaches concede the season and start grooming Nico for next year.

Yep. Heard that one before. Joe must be one hell of a star in practice.
Cause if an injury didn't force Hooker into the game, Heupel may not be the apple of every Vol fans eye right now.
Basically -- Heupel isn't infallible, and has already chosen the wrong QB to start once, and he just may be doing it again --- with the same bum.

GROOMING?
