Title: Preseason Big Ten Heisman Contenders
Post by: Temp430 on August 25, 2017, 07:45:51 AM
Obvious choices are Barkley and McSorely for Penn State and Barrett for Ohio State. Anyone else?

NU has a nice RB and QB but there is no hype around them.

Take an offensive back from a top ten ranked team who puts up gaudy numbers and has a couple of "highlight" plays of some sort and you have your winner.

Eh.

Not a believer in McSorley. At all. I love JT Barrett as a college QB and leader, but I don't think he throws the ball down the field well enough to have the kind of season where he'll win the Heisman.

not sure there really is one aside from Barkley and even then I don't think he's a very big contender. I think Barkley is absolutely terrific and hands down the best offensive player in the B1G, but I don't think he'll put up the kind of video game #'s that RB's have to put up in order to win the Heisman. It's a QB award. Aside from Mark Ingram- who never should've won that award- the only RB's to win the Heisman in the last 20 years have been Ricky Williams, Reggie Bush, and Derrick Henry. All 3 of those dudes put up video game stats the year they won. Bush averaged almost 9 yards per carry and had over 1,700 yards rushing. I believe Ricky broke the single season NCAA rushing record, and Henry had over 2,200 yards rushing and like 30 TD's. I just don't think Barkley is going to put up those kinds of stats. Even though I fully believe he will be a better NFL RB than all of them. Bush and Henry just weren't NFL RB fits and while Ricky Williams had his moments in the NFL and was amazing at times and could've been a HOF'er- his off-field personal issues kept him from reaching that kind of level.

Chris Evans. He's got highlight reel ability in him. Great hands for a RB and he's a wizard in the open field.
