There are plenty of singers and bands I just don't like, and could consider something by them as the worst song ever recorded, but that's too easy.
I think I'll pick a song from a band that I actually like, that just wrote and recorded a terrible song.
And that song is Foreigner's "I Wanna Know What Love Is"
Words can't describe how much I despise this song.
This is the same band that pumped out testosterone-laced bangers like "Hot Blooded" and "Urgent" and "Jukebox Hero" but then turned around and produced THAT sappy POS?????

Yeah, that's kind of what I'm trying to isolate. Specific tracks by either non-offensive or otherwise accomplished singers/bands, yet the one song just stops you in its tracks, and yields such vile emotion.

holy shit that song is terrible. Madonna never made sense to me. How did she get as big as she did? Her singing voice sucks and she was never even attractive, even at her physical peak. Like I got Britney Spears, she was a grade A piece of ass, 20 years ago she was smoking hot. Girls wanted to look like her and guys wanted to sleep with her. Madonna? Don't get it. She has always been kinda hit- looks like down river white trash from Detroit. Which is actually exactly what she was. Speaking of Madonna, she looks like a freaking ape nowadays. She should be a PSA warning for botched plastic surgery gone wrong for everyone.

I liked some of Madonna's stuff, and although her singing voice started out pretty rough early on, she actually worked hard with vocal coaches for a long time and improved at her craft. I can respect that.

I am a huge Pink Floyd fan, but I cannot stand the song Another Brick in the Wall Pt 2. And for some stupid reason, it seems to be about the only song people know from the Wall album. I can listen to that album front to back with no problem, but have to skip over that song.

Also have to add that the whole Hip Hop and Pop genre's are like nails on a chalkboard to me. And I would probably add in the heavy metal hair bands to that list.

I love music also. But simply spitting obscenities' into a microphone in a rhythmic manner, does not appeal to me. I also cannot handle the screaming accompanied by fast, loud guitar that define much of the heavy metal, hair band styles. But that is just me.

Hair metal was much more melodic, the screaming would be more associated with true heavy metal than glam rock/hair metal. The fact that hair metal was so melodic and used so much harmony, is precisely why it was looked down upon by the true metal-heads.
And there's a decent amount of rap/hip hop that consists of more than merely screaming obscenities into a microphone.

I worked 3-days at a drive-in movie theater when I was 17 for $1.25 (below minimum wage -- maybe we could get tips, but I didn't know it, and didn't receive any). Everyday I worked there, resetting the speakers that would be hung in your side-window, as I walked the grounds, the song Mockingbird by Carly Simon and James Taylor played. As much as I like Carly Simon, I detest the song, "Mockingbird." It is like listening to someone singing with a speech impediment. The lyrics make no sense at all.

Cream, BoC for sure, fit into that mold. Plenty of others, but it mostly runs together for me, as I change the radio station.
One of the worst things about getting older is that "Classic Rock" used to be a bunch of moldy oldies from the 60s and 70s that had their own radio station that I could ignore, while my favorite radio station played "hard rock" from the late 70s and 80s and then the 90s. But now all of that stuff gets lumped together and they'll play a shitty BoC song immediately after an awesome Van Halen song. It's annoying.

I get annoyed when I do a Peloton "Classic Rock" ride and they have GnR. GnR is not classic rock.
Granted I like GnR so it's not a major problem, I just hate that they call it classic rock.

Obviously true, but it's just a mindset thing. First, I'm not ready to be old and have the music of my youth classified as "Classic Rock." But second and more practical is that, like I mentioned before, now the "Classic Rock" station lumps it all together and I'm forced to endure boring crap like Blue Oyster Cult and the Who, before I can get to the meaty goodness of some Van Halen and The Cars.

So, I went to a Black Sabbath (Brits) concert with Ozzy, and the backup band came out.
Some unknown outfit from LA. We're all looking at each other saying "Holy shit - who ARE these guys?" as they opened.
Black Sabbath was such a letdown after that opening act.

On a serious not....I really have left almost all rock/classic rock in the rear view mirror. Because I am just so burned out on it. R&R ceases to exist in the last 20 years, so I've only had the old stuff to fall back on, and as a result played it out. I have a sour taste anymore, tbh.

And I'll also say that watching and hearing my kids rediscover much of the same music I grew up loving, has helped keep it new and fresh for me. My 15yo daughter absolutely loves 80s rock. And she puts together the best playlists. She's in charge of all of our party playlists, roadtrip playlists, etc. She's great at it.

I'm ambivalent regarding Twenty One Pilots, I like a couple and don't like a couple.
I saw them live at the Formula1 race at COTA a couple years back, and they actually put on a great show. Tons of energy, very talented at their craft.

I'm ambivalent regarding Twenty One Pilots, I like a couple and don't like a couple.
I saw them live at the Formula1 race at COTA a couple years back, and they actually put on a great show. Tons of energy, very talented at their craft.
The strange thing about my hatred for them is that I often like their sound (it can be all over the place tho). I liked them for a while when they first came out. But something just gnawed at me and grew that I just couldn't get around until I'd heard a lot more of their songs...
They're weird. All sorts of disjointed lyrics. Nearly every song with a strange interlude in the middle where they throw out some strange "supposed to be deep" phrase.
I got the sense that it's all just an act. They're trying to be "artistic" but in reality it's just weirdness for weirdness' sake.
IMHO, of course.

Obviously true, but it's just a mindset thing. First, I'm not ready to be old and have the music of my youth classified as "Classic Rock." But second and more practical is that, like I mentioned before, now the "Classic Rock" station lumps it all together and I'm forced to endure boring crap like Blue Oyster Cult and the Who, before I can get to the meaty goodness of some Van Halen and The Cars.
I believe that we must be polar opposites. If I have to listen to a classic rock station, I have to endure GnR and some of the other hair/metal bands to get to the good stuff like BOC, BTN, The Stones, Pink Floyd, etc.

On a serious not....I really have left almost all rock/classic rock in the rear view mirror. Because I am just so burned out on it. R&R ceases to exist in the last 20 years, so I've only had the old stuff to fall back on, and as a result played it out. I have a sour taste anymore, tbh.
Zep -- automatic channel swap, Beatles -- automatic channel swap, Stones -- automatic channel swap, Van Halen -- automatic channel swap, Floyd -- automatic channel swap. You get the drift.

ZZ Top was always a bit of a sellout band. Doesn't mean I didn't like their stuff, but it was super gimmicky compared to the real Texas blues players.
I love Stevie Ray Vaughn. The man could play a guitar.
Their first couple of albums were pretty good and I never got the impression they were selling out until Eliminator. Couldn't stand much of anything they did from there on.

I was lucky enough to see SRV several times before he died, mostly live outdoor festivals around Austin but once when I snuck into a club on 6th Street using my older brother's ID.
And I was also lucky enough to see Albert Collins live, once, when he recorded a show at Austin City Limits in 1991. He died two years later.

Was at a golf outing in the afternoon and some of the older folks I was with and around wanted to go at night. I was captive not necessarily looking to bet on greyhounds. I was 14. Lake Geneva and Kenosha still had tracks back then. I just remember how Foggy the track was and how slow we drove gong home on i-43.
