My best buddy, and I, plan to attend FSU @ Pitt in November 2023. I have passed through, and passed by, Pittsburgh. Are there some high quality things we should see or do in Pittsburgh?
I am hoping my wife will attend with me if that makes a difference. My buddy's daughter is in college in Pittsburgh, so we will have to entertain women with things to do, as well as enjoying college football for ourselves.

Like to eat? Museums? What types of things are you looking for?

My brother told me Pittsburgh is a lot like our hometown of Dubuque because of its bluffs, funicular railroads, a major river, and an industrial base.
If there are museums, and an entertainment district, those would be of interest. If there is some great ethnic food, I might be interested in that, and maybe a B & B should my wife travel with me. My wife cannot subsist on football alone (or maybe can't subsist on football at all).

I purchased our football tickets for FSU @ Pitt. If anyone here has a suggestion for an uplifting tourist visit in Pittsburgh the weekend of Nov. 3-5, 2023, please let me know.

I had a job interview there, in 1980. I think there still is that funicular that goes up to the top of some hill where I had a decent dinner.

When I visit a new city I like to walk around downtown, presuming it's safe etc. and see whatever on foot. I often discover things that way. You can also go on line of course.

Phipps conservatory is really cool if you and/or like plants/flowers. Its in Schenley Park, easy to park and (free or a couple bucks), Oakland is a 5 min walk and you can see Pitt/Carnegie Mellon/Oakland.
National Avairy has a nice bird collection.
Touristy areas: Carson st (bars, sometimes difficult to park). A little down the road from carson st. is the Gateway clipper which you can take to the game.
Strip District - which has good delis, decent food, and is the worlds capital for unlicenced steelers stuf.
Some Carnegie museums that I haven't been at for a long time so can't comment on. There is an andy warhol museum as well I haven't been too.
Photo places: West End, Mt. Washington (take the Duquesne incline to get there).
Food: City does sandwiches and bread/bread for sandwiches + italian pastries as good as anyone in the country. The Primanti's in the strip is good (any other Primanti's is a seperate chain; the UNO of sandwich shops). Many of the best places for sandwiches are places what looks to be in the middle of nowhere like Big Jims, Triangle Bar or (south of city) DiCarlos Fruit Market.
All the parks in the county are nice: Schenley, Frick, Boyce, South Park (10 mi south of city) is huge.
Generally you can just go downtown walk and explore. Its just a nice city and the hills gives the neighborhood a uniqueness and character.

I understand from others that Pittsburgh is a lot like my hometown of Dubuque, except bigger. Both communities had multiple funicular railways to access residential areas on the bluffs. Pittsburgh now only has two, Dubuque now only has one.
My time is limited. I will try to get to Pittsburgh Thursday night or early Friday so we can enjoy the community. Thank you for your suggestions! I am a gardener. So your suggestion about Phipps Conservatory has caught my eye.

I went to the FSU @ Pitt game. 11/4/2023.
We spent the weekend in Pittsburgh. It was worthwhile. We saw the Cathedral of Learning. Impressive.

We drove past the Tree of Life Synagogue enroute to a walking trail. It looked familiar. It was one-half mile from where we stayed, and from my buddy's daughter's apartment. We looked and I said to my wife, "That looks familiar." Sadly, I used my phone to try and figure out why it looked familiar. I am a news hound, and it was familiar.
