USC came to play and Caleb Williams came to win the Heisman. Up 14-3 on Utah with 2:52 left in the 1st QTR.
Williams reminds me of Donovan McNabb maybe. Hard to make a player comp. He's not the biggest, not the fastest, doesn't have the strongest arm- just makes plays...which kind of reminds me of McNabb I guess.
-
USC plays defense now? Who knew?
-
eye ball test...USC looks like a small team. Their OL, DL, LB, TE, WR, DBs.....they look small. I'm not seeing MONSTERS on that squad like I do on some of the other top teams.
-
there's the USC defense showing it's ugly head again. Just line up with extra OL and TEs and run right at them. They can't stop that. Utah finally started trying to run at them and they move the ball. Who knew.
UGA and Michigan would ram it down their throats into submission.
-
gonna be a game in the 2nd half
-
Tackling optional
-
gonna be a game in the 2nd half
yup. USC was running away with it up 14 early. Utah started finally just running the football right at them and it's tie game.
Utah might actually win this thing. I thought for sure USC was heading towards blow out, but nope. USC is too reliant on one player and they are WEAK up front on both lines of scrimmage.
Ohio State just might backdoor into this dance.
-
Tackling optional
USC's defense is BAD bad. Yeah I get they create turnovers. Lot of that is just random and luck. You know what isn't random or luck? Making tackles. Covering WRs. Stopping the run. Controlling the interior. They stink at all of these things.
-
USC came to play and Caleb Williams came to win the Heisman.
in the first quarter
-
in the first quarter
yup. been all downhill for 'SC since that first quarter. this looks like a typical soft Lincoln Riley team with a sexy offense and stud QB, but where defense and tackling are optional.
-
I'd have flagged the Trojan for 15 yards after the push in the endzone after the TD
-
Utah is straight up taking over the lines of scrimmage right now.
Man I was hoping Michigan would get to face USC. If they can't block Utah and if they can't stop Utah from running the ball down their throats just imagine what Michigan would do to them. 400 yards rushing and that's not hyperbole.
-
so who wins the Heisman now? Max Duggan?
-
USC starts a 6'6, 200 pound LB'er. Kid looks like a toothpick. No wonder why they can't stop the run.
-
so who wins the Heisman now? Max Duggan?
Williams still.
-
0 fer on 3rd downs is no way to live
-
Williams still.
what if Duggans throws for like 300-400 and 3-4 TDs and TCU blows KState out? I think he steals it if that happens.

great hit
-
great hit
first real hit USC defense has made all season
-
and that great hit and stop didn't matter bc....USC defense was holding....LOL
-
Holy crap. That was a vicious hit. Reminiscent of the Clowney hit on the Michigan RB.
-
Utes absolutely owned the 2nd and 3rd quarters
as they've done most of the season

Caleb Williams is a magician. His OL stinks. His defense stinks. Somehow he's keeping them in this game almost single handedly.
-
How can you play 15 yards off that close to the end zone
-
Caleb Williams is a magician. His OL stinks. His defense stinks. Somehow he's keeping them in this game almost single handedly.
He really deserves the Heisman. He is amazing.
-
nice tackle
-
Just wow.
-
Just wow.
lmao...yeah...USC defense is SO bad you can't help but say wow and laugh.
-
Shaking my head
-
Caleb Williams.....HOLY SHIT man. On 4th down. With pressure in his face bc his OL is swiss cheese. Makes that play. WOW.

and there goes the hypseman

Ohio State backdoors into the playoff. Sometimes it's better to be lucky than good.
Unlucky for them: they get Georgia round 1.

maybe not if TCU gets beat
-
Welcome back Buckeyes.
Should have been buckeyes all along. Usc defense is trash.
-
nice tackle
LMAO. Why on earth would any defensive recruit want to play for Lincoln Riley? Like ever. This is the same sh*t with him at Oklahoma. His teams literally do not play defense.
5* DB Domani Jackson had a chance to go to Michigan. He picked USC. He picked wrong.
-
maybe not if TCU gets beat
nah. I think committee will rig it so avoid a Michigan-OSU rematch in the semis. they'll get Georgia no matter what imo.
-
It's easy to imagine UCLA and USC getting a big wake up coming into the Big Ten West
same as Scott Frost
-
maybe not if TCU gets beat
I think they'd still get UGA because the committee would want to avoid the first round rematch so they'd leave TCU at #3 matched up with #2 Michigan.
-

Georgia - Ohio St.
Michigan - Bama

I feel like Chip Kelly will get that defense figured out a little bit eventually. Have more faith in him and his track record of building complete teams. Lincoln Riley however is screwed once he hits the Big Ten. Dude has never coached a team with a defense. Big Ten teams will run right down his throat. Oh and add in crappy weather slowing down his pass offenses.
-
and there goes the hypseman
INT
And now a fumble
-
Caleb Williams fumbles it, Utah recovers it. That's ball game.
Wonder if his game sealing INT and fumble just cost him the Heisman.
-
1/11 on third down conversion. Say what you will about the Heisman candidate, but maybe he should convert third downs over painting his nails
-
44-10 after the first quarter
-
nice tackle...LMFAO.
My GOD is USC PATHETIC on defense. Holy sht.
-
Usc just can't tackle
-
43-10 after the first quarter
USC had a 14 pt lead after the 1st QTR.
They are going to lose this game by 23 points. LOL.

yup
and a measly 24 points

3rd and 35
another tough convert

and no tears were shed by Sooner fans

Who is happier right now, Utah fans or Ohio State fans?
-
Even if you don't hate either team, it's kind of satisfying that the great record/bad defense teams (Tennessee & USC) both eventually got blown out.
-
Ohio State backdoors into the playoff. Sometimes it's better to be lucky than good.
Unlucky for them: they get Georgia round 1.
OSU is perfectly able to beat Georgia.
-
Even if you don't hate either team, it's kind of satisfying that the great record/bad defense teams (Tennessee & USC) both eventually got blown out.
I don't hate any program except Notre Dame.
But I agree with you 100%. I can't stomach watching teams that play zero defense. You don't have to be the best defense ever. But at least make tackles and give some effort. The games I saw of USC this year- that defense was atrocious. You're never winning a natty with a defense like that. I don't care how good your QB and offense are.
-
nice tackle...LMFAO.
My GOD is USC PATHETIC on defense. Holy sht.
Ha just woke up it was 17-10 when I entered slumber world.I remember you saying "USC plays defense now? Who knew?" and I was thinking the same thing.Wheels can come off fast
-
OSU is perfectly able to beat Georgia.
Depends on if they get JSN back or not imo. I think if he's back on the field that changes things dramatically for OSU, because Marv + JSN are both uncoverable. I don't know how you cover both.
-
Not even sure if tOSU should back in - BAMA has two tough/close loses on the road
-
Not even sure if tOSU should back in - BAMA has two tough/close loses on the road
I get that argument because Bama's losses were both close so they are two plays from undefeated.
The problem for Bama is that if you are going to raise the vlose game issue, Bama is also three plays from 7-5.
Close wins are irrelevant if you are a P5 and go undefeated but once you lose and especially if you lose twice, they are a legitimate issue.
-
Not even sure if tOSU should back in - BAMA has two tough/close loses on the road
No reason Bama should jump OSU.
-
I just hope TCU doesn’t lose because I’ll be a little sick if Bama sits at home with two losses and leaps over over a 12-1 P5 team.
-
So after USC loss, if favorites win tomorrow, I'd project:
Fiesta: Michigan vs. TCU
Peach: Georgia vs. Ohio State
Rose: Utah vs. Penn State
Sugar: Alabama vs. Kansas State
Orange: Clemson vs. Tennessee
Cotton: Tulane vs. USC
If TCU loses in anything but a blowout, I think they stay in now, but drop to 4th. If Purdue wins, they go to the Rose Bowl and Penn State is probably pushed out of the NY6 all together (it's possible Penn State jumps USC but I would bet against). Alabama's slim hope is now that Kansas State beats TCU by a massive amount.
-
No reason Bama should jump OSU.
I kinda believe they should but since they had to go and schedule Austin Peay a week before the Auburn Game - screw them
>:(

This is a clustertruck. If we selected just two CFP teams, it would be Michigan and Georgia. The top 2 most years are not much in doubt.
Under the old bowl system it would be Mich. v. Utah in the Rose Bowl. Sorry Utah.
And, Georgia would play a highly ranked team in the Sugar Bowl - perhaps TCU - if TCU were to defeat K-State in the Big 12 Championship, which is far from certain - we'll know in several hours.
MNC would likely be who in the bowl scenario??? We could argue about it for 100-years, and you cannot diminish the fun in arguing - nicely.
In the bowl scenario, Michigan and Georgia most likely win over Utah and TCU. I would guess Georgia would win the beauty contest as they are ranked #1, coming into the bowl season.

Depending on how far back we go in the "old bowl system" B12 conference champ TCU would be automatically tied to the Fiesta Bowl, or SWC champ TCU would be automatically tied to the Cotton Bowl.
Sugar Bowl and Cotton/Fiesta Bowl would have invited the next best eligible non-conference-champ or independent.
-
I hadn't watched USC all year, obviously their tackling was, um, nonexistent? I don't know much about fundamentals of tackling, but they seemed not to have anything there. I have not seen so many woofs in a college game in ... a long time. And I agree in a CFP, that would have been death for USC against anyone else. Maybe they could win a shoot out but I doubt it, maybe it would be like the OU-UGA game in 2017, but OU tackled better than USC does.
Maybe that OU team and USC have something in common, I'm not sure what it is though.

and the best case imo, would be the BCS system where Georgia would play Michigan in the Orange bowl
and it would be settled on the field
a great matchup between undefeated and deserving teams
Ohio St and the Utes in the Rose
Bama and whomever in the Suga
-
I just hope TCU doesn’t lose because I’ll be a little sick if Bama sits at home with two losses and leaps over over a 12-1 P5 team.
when K-state lost to TCU earlier, the Kitties were up 28-17 at the half
top two QBs knocked out of the game, #3 QB plays the second half and they get shutout
TCU wins
their last 3 games - very good QB play
31-3 over Baylor
48-31 over West Virginny
47-27 over Kansas
I think K-State wins
-
If TCU were undefeated, you could have a split NC again, possibly. I rather hope TCU loses and only drops to 4. Ohio State is still a dangerous team I think.
Of course, I thought USC was also.
TCU likely is better than I can credit.
-
If TCU loses and drops out (and they might well not), would you choose Bama or Tennessee and why?
-
the Vols have most arguments over Bama, but
Bama's losses are closer and I think Bama is actually the better team and would be favored if they played again
I'd chose Bama, but I'd rather go with my heart and chose the Vols
fresh blood and all that
-
One could argue that Tennessee right now isn't as good as they were earlier because HH is out.
I agree Bama looks more dangerous at the moment.
-
I think both of you have a good point which is why Bama should not be in the convo. The Vols have a better argument but HH out makes them not a threat, therefore the 4 should be locked in. Georgia, UM, TCU and OSU
-
what if..........
KSU blows out TCU and Duggan is injured?
-
what if..........
KSU blows out TCU and Duggan is injured?
Lol. So funny. I almost typed that as my only scenario that would change the 4, but I didn’t want to jinx it. If that happens then it’s complete mayhem lol.
-
The last time K State blew a team out in the Big 12 CCG, it didn't keep Oklahoma out of the MNC game.
-
but, the Sooners have a shiny helmet
TCU does not
and the SEC doesn't give a damn about the Big 12 after stealing Texas and Oklahoma
If the B1G gets 2, the SEC is really wanna get two
-
The worst defenses by recent NCs are 2019 LSU, 2014 OSU, and 2010 Auburn.
They all averaged around 22-23 points allowed per game and around 350 total yards allowed These are not bad numbers in a vacuum, but for a NC team, they're dreadful.
.
This year, USC's defense allows 28 points per game and 415 total yards. So I'd posit that the Trojans were never actual NC contenders, as their defense was far too poor. A loss to UCLA, Utah or vs a playoff team was virtually guaranteed.

I've only watched a couple of CFP games since they started this format. If we get 2 B1G vs. 2 SEC then I will continue not to watch the CFP games.

IMO more sunday bound kids will just bolt, why fatten the already brimming budgets of the networks and universities while risking your future. What will be left is the program that survived the exodus better and not the world beaters of the season

I can assure you that my behavior as an "SEC fan" is going to be extremely disappointing to SEC fans.

A conference made up of Universities that could have opted out thus leveraging anything the conference were forcing them to do

A conference made up of Universities that could have opted out thus leveraging anything the conference were fprcing them to do
The B1G and the SEC are expanding and escalating. It is quite literally, their fault and their fault alone, that the money has come to the point that others have to respond.
I'll use Texas as an example-- in the B12 UT was able to tolerate a $10M-$20M per year delta in its revenue compared to the B1G or SEC. But when the new contracts were being discussed for all conferences, and the new numbers were showing that the new delta was about to become more like $60M-$70M per year, then the delta was no longer tolerable. There's no way Texas could remain competitive against even the poorest universities in the B1G or SEC, under the current structure.
it is entirely on the conferences for expanding and escalating the arms race. For the universities it's simply become a game of survival.
If you're suggesting a school like Texas should just sit still and take it, while the B1G is about to be paying $100M/year to all of its member schools, then that's a silly and naive point of view. We might just as well become the U of Chicago and entirely opt out of sports, because that's how competitive we'd be.
-
Dang. I turned off the PAC-12 CCG after the first quarter when it looked like USC was running away with it.
Under the old systems USC would’ve probably played for the MNC. It makes you wonder about the rest of the PAC since they were 11-1. The PAC as a whole is very weak and has been for awhile.
I’m thinking KSU wins today, as does UGA and Michigan.
Playoff will be
UGA, Michigan, OSU, Bama.
New boss = Old boss.

KSU can definitely win, but I'll be surprised if it happens. TCU is just charmed this year.
Of course I expect that charm to end if/when they have to play Georgia.

94 are you into the eggnogg already?I never remotely suggested that - Universities is a wide blankett I wasn't singling out any one.Expanding the conferences which inevitably leads to expanding the season is corrupt IMO.Exposing kids to either more time away from studies or more risk to injury. One day a university will just make up a major and call it sports studies. Practice will count as class, it’ll just be all sports. Then the objective is one and the same. No more poultry science majors or basket weaving or whatever. They are there to play football.
Heck on 2nd thought I bet they’re already doing it.

oh yeah, they're definitely already doing it. And why not?
Engineering is set up to be pretty much a vocational program, my "liberal arts" requirements were minimal. So, just because engineering is considered more prestigious than sports-study, it's allowed to be a vocational program and sports is not? That doesn't make any sense to me, at all.
So now schools have designated paths for "sports study" and I'm fine with it. Most kids won't make it as NFL or NBA or MLB players, but a lot of them can become successful sports agents or sports marketers, so why not set up a curriculum to help them get there? I'm all for it.

He was a fairly accomplished singer and it was a great show but my biggest reason for watching was one of these things until I turned 12 and the other one after that.

Speaking of reasons to watch things:
After the Utah win last night I kept it on long enough to hear Urban Meyer tell Kyle Whittingham that he'd never again need to buy a beer in Columbus.
After that they switched to coverage of some soccer event. The hostess was a very attractive and surprisingly scantily clad (for a hostess) woman. Didn't matter, soccer still isn't interesting.

Head scratching spot on the 2nd down review. No review on 3rd?
We see dubious needless reviews all freaking year and not there in uber high leverage situation.?
-
Gonna find out now
-
TCU should be in and they should stay at 3. They went 12-0 in the regular season and they lost 1 game by 3 points in OT. Ohio State got blown out at home. TCU shouldn't be penalized by having to play an extra game and Ohio State shouldn't be rewarded for sitting at home.
-
I think with a close loss in OT, TCU is #4 and gets Georgia
Michigan vs Ohio St.

I agree
-
I think with a close loss in OT, TCU is #4 and gets Georgia
Michigan vs Ohio St.
committee is going to put Michigan at #1 in that case to avoid a rematch. Or what they should do is just leave TCU at #3.
-
UGA could lose too
-
UGA could lose too
could happen. but doubtful. LSU stinks imo. They got way too much credit for beating a mortal Bama team by 1 point on a 2 pt conversion attempt.
-
What a mess. The SEC lobbyists now gathering with their tiki torches.
-
What a mess. The SEC lobbyists now gathering with their tiki torches.
final 4 is going to be Georiga, Michigan, TCU, and Ohio St.
The only question will be the seeding. Very likely they rig it to avoid an immediate Michigan-OSU rematch in the semis.
-
Georgia has some freaking MUTANTS on their squad.
-
how did LSU not know that ball was live....WOW. It's a 3 point attempt, not an XP.
-
Gwhoosh
-
Kelly might want to get a special teams coach
Can't you also run back a blocked Xtra point kick for 2 points?
-
10 point swing

Commercials
-
LSU looks better than UGA
-
TCU should be in and they should stay at 3. They went 12-0 in the regular season and they lost 1 game by 3 points in OT. Ohio State got blown out at home. TCU shouldn't be penalized by having to play an extra game and Ohio State shouldn't be rewarded for sitting at home.
I completely disagree. But just for arguments sake I hope they get in because I want to see how they match up to either UGA, Mich, or whatever the 4th team is.
Going 12-0 vs a soft schedule is not the same as 10-1 vs a difficult schedule.
-

Yeah I was watching and I thought, they’re acting like the play is dead but unless they heard a whistle I’m pretty sure it’s not dead. And then the dude picks it up.
lsu looking ok so far. 7-7. LSU should be winning 10-0 but rules.

yeah except TCU had a harder schedule than Ohio State. TCU had the best strength of schedule of every team ranked in the top 5. They played I want to say 6 games vs teams currently ranked in the top 25. I think the next closest was Georgia with 4.
Ohio State's schedule was not extremely difficult. The B1G was pretty damn bad this year outside of the top 3 teams. Ohio State played 2 really good teams- Michigan and Penn State- and they got their doors blown off at home by 3+ touchdowns by one of those 2 teams- and that team was missing it's best player on offense and best player on defense.
Spare me the oh they played ND in non-con! ND is straight garbage. ND got beat down by that soft no defense playing USC team that just got their doors blown off by Utah. ND lost at home to freaking Marshall and they lost at home to a dreadful 3 win Stanford team. ND has been terrible vs every team that isn't in the ACC. That tells you all you need to know about how truly awful the ACC is.
-
Bowers power
I am generally against drafting a TE in the top 10 or even 1st rd. I've railed against the Lions for this time and time again.
I would draft Brock Bowers in the 1st rd and not think twice about it. Guys like him are the exception to that rule.
-
Georgia getting some crazy luck so far. First the blocked FG where LSU just stands around for UGA player to pick it up and run back untouched. Now that INT? WTF was that helmet bounce INT? Sheesh.
-
Geesh LSU gets no breaks.
-
and just like that it's 21-7. Think that's all she wrote folks. UGA defense is too good to surrender a 14 point lead imo. This ain't that USC defense that gave up a 14 point lead only to lose by 30. This a real ass defense.
-
better to be lucky than good
-
Best to be ...
LSU needs a break, turnover, something.
-

Wait, what ? That’s like saying A&M beat 3 top ten teams this season. It may have been technically true but it doesn’t mean much when you finish the season at 5-7.
There are only two top 25 teams from the Big 12 today other than TCU. Texas and Kansas state, with 4 losses and 3 losses each. Tcu split the two games with KSU, I’d say they’re pretty evenly matched. The rest of the Big 12 is hot garbage this year.
I’d straight up take ten teams in the top 25 above TCU.
-
28-7 now, time to shut them down.
-
Wow, didn't expect this. 35-7.
-
Why not?
Is Michigan still eager to play UGA?
-
Why not?
Is Michigan still eager to play UGA?
Michigan is eager to play for the natty. That means playing Georgia. So I'd say yes.
-
Good luck with that.
-
thought the Dawgs would win, but didn't think it would be over before the half
wish LSU would play defense
-
another reason to match Michigan with Ohio St.
-
Wow, didn't expect this. 35-7.
I did. LSU is not good. They lost to Florida State- a mediocre ACC team, got their doors blown off by Texas A&M- an awful team, got stomped out at home by Tennessee, and what were their big wins? An 8-4 Ole Miss that fell apart down the stretch? Beating a mediocre BAMA team (by Bama standards that is) at home in a night game by 1 pt off a last second 2pt conversion?
LSU is not a very good team. They are fringe top 25 team. Georgia is a playoff caliber top 4 team. I completely expected them smash LSU.
-
another reason to match Michigan with Ohio St.
what? there is no valid reason to match Michigan with Ohio St.
-
thought the Dawgs would win, but didn't think it would be over before the half

newsflash: LSU stinks. They've stunk all year. You don't get blown out by Texas 4&8-U if you play defense...
-
Bennett is a better passer than many think.
-
Good luck with that.
thanks! I'll take all the luck. it's often better to be lucky than good.
-
LSU is 9-3, they don't really stink. They are thin but have some talent.
-
Bennett is a better passer than many think.
give him the trophy
-
Bennett is a better passer than many think.
he's a better PLAYER period than many think.
Shoot majority of his fan base was very loudly calling for him to hit the bench last year in favor of the flashy 5* QB. Safe to say Kirby made the right choice on the QB.
-
Kirby might be better than most
-
LSU is 9-3, they don't really stink. They are thin but have some talent.
Yeah I'm gonna have to disagree. LSU is 9-4 now, and I think they pretty much stink.
If you get stomped out at home by Tennessee- who turned out to be nothing more than a paper tiger, lose to a mediocre ACC team- which is by far the worst conference in P5, and get blown out by 4&8-U- then yeah, I'm gonna say you stink.
Who did LSU beat that was any good? They beat a very mortal 2-loss BAMA, in Baton Rouge, at night, by 1 point off a last second 2 pt conversion.
LSU just isn't that good. I don't understand the hype on them. Haven't all year.
But you know how it goes..... SEC! SEC! SEC! SEC!
-
I'm not sold on Kirby ...
-
I'm not sold on Kirby ...
what? for real? you've gotta be joking right lol?

I love seeing mdot shit on the #6 team in the country in poo-pooing LSU.
Adorbs.

LSU is not the #6 team in the country. They are the #14 team in the country.
And after today they'll be lucky to be like #22-25.

I fully agree- TCU should be in, and at # 3.
Just want clarify that Ohio State beat ND by the exact same margin as USC- back when ND had their starting QB.
-
He means Bama.
I never sh*t on Bama though. Only sh*t on LSU.
Bama is a solid top 10 team this year, but they aren't your typical Bama team. Not even close. They just don't have the DUDES they used to on the lines of scrimmage or the elite players at WR. Bryce Young is the best player in all of CFB and he just makes it work and gets them Ws.
-

would you or vegas take TCU straight up over OSU?
I wouldn't

I know. I'm just saying I don't find it that impressive. Like, I feel like that's what OSU should've done to ND. OSU punked ND in the 2nd half.
ND is not a good team. They have been terrible vs every team not in the ACC. That's not a coincidence. The ACC is straight garbage. Put ND "half-in" the B1G or PAC and they might not even be .500. Shoot they struggled like hell to beat an awful Cal team, they lost to a putrid Stanford team, and USC's no defense playing pansy asses punked ND.
-
It was pretty obvious that the SEC West was unusually weak this year. If it weren't LSU today, then Georgia would be stomping Alabama or Ole Miss or whoever. I don't see anything strange about pointing that out.
-

No argument here.
-
I also feel like Ohio State played very conservatively against Notre Dame,
Not really knowing how good they were and feeling like they had a pretty strong defense. Plus I think it threw them off a little bit because they had built a good chunk of their game plan around Jackson Smith-Njigba, who only had 4 touches before leaving the game.
-
I can't name 9 teams I think are better than Bama.
-
how about 4 teams?
-
Yeah, maybe. TCU?
-
Yeah, maybe. TCU?
TCU who just lost to crummy 3-loss Kansas State, from the weak and pathetic B12?
(see how easy that's going to be for the committee to justify?)
-
And don't look now, but LSU is showing some life...
-

if ND played OSU today, OSU would beat them by 3 scores. At least.
-
LSU making it a respectable game, but it's probably too little too late.
-
I can't name 9 teams I think are better than Bama.
no one said there were 9 teams better.
But BAMA is in the same range as Tennessee, Penn State, and Washington. Top 10. Not the elite top 4 imo.
-
why not just kick the FG and take the points and make it a TD + TD/2pt game?
-
I never sh*t on Bama though. Only sh*t on LSU.

They are more like top five.
-
Yeah, maybe. TCU?
you'd put jewelry box money on TCU against Bama?
-
Nope. I would have Bama even with OSU

And don't look now, but LSU is showing some life...
Yup, just wearing down now.

You're......special.

LSU deserves credit for fighting. It ain't over.
-
would you or vegas take TCU straight up over OSU?
I wouldn't
No, but again, that shouldn’t be the standard. If TCU would have won today most of us (and Vegas) would still favor Bama, but no one would be clamoring for a 10-2 Bama to get in over a 13-0 TCU. We shouldn’t be clamoring for a 10-2 Bama to get in over a 12-1 TCU either.

I don't know. To me, undefeated means something as do P5 conference titles.
If TCU had won today they would be both undefeated AND a P5 Champion. Since they didn't, they are neither.
When you aren't undefeated, all those close wins are a MUCH bigger issue to me.

and if they'd have won convincingly, I would give them a chance to beat Bama
the spread wouldn't be large

Uh, the replay shows he rolled over on the defender and never touched the ground.

JJ off to a good start
-
At the Purdue / Michigan game. Crowd is about 60 / 40 Michigan. Looks sold out.
-
Uh, the replay shows he rolled over on the defender and never touched the ground.
I'm sure the official had that slow motion replay available in his head as well.
Michigan went hurry up right after.
Just saying, this is not off to a good start when it comes to perceived officiating bias.
-
That ball went across the goal

It was obvious in real time. It didn’t need slow motion replay like this touchdown because the RB had an awesome sneaky play getting the ball across.

this game sucks already. can it just be over please. thanks.

Zone defense sucks. Remember to talk about how back Michigan and Harbaugh are.
-
Zone defense sucks. Remember to talk about how back Michigan and Harbaugh are.
I don't understand why they played their DBs so far off and dropped into straight zones most of that scoring drive for Purdue.
They play a lot of man with their CBs and get in the face of WRs all year...and today they decide to change it up. Wtf?
Edwards still running hesitant. When is he gonna get that damn cast off his right hand. That ish won't fly in the playoff. Hopefully it'll be off by then.
-
also....no Mike Morris for like 3 weeks in a row. Wtf.
-
They are more like top five.
I guess. If you say so. Most top 5 teams usually have better resumes than what Bama has. What are Bama's quality wins? Ole Miss?
-
JJ...WTF man. Just take off and run. You could had a 1st down...instead you stop and throw the ball when you're 3 yards past the LOS.
Edwards needs to hit the bench. Kid has a cast on his hand and hesistant.
-
Michigan is going to be up 35-10 at halftime, right? Since Purdue is such trash, a la LSU.
-
Butterfingers Bell. Man he is so overhyped. He's the best we got and that's SAD. I long for the days Michigan has an elite WR again. We used to have those all the time. David Terrell, Marquise Walker, Braylon Edwards, Mario Manningham. I'd KILL for one of those. Jesus Christ.

Desmond Howard might be available, as his prediction skills might not keep him employed for long...

Michigan is sitting multiple starters and their starting RB is done for the year and their new starting RB is playing with a freaking cast on his right hand so no they won't be.
And yes, LSU is trash.

Hell yes Boilers!!

nice fake

1st down

Michigan is sitting multiple starters and their starting RB is done for the year and their new starting RB is playing with a freaking cast on his right hand so no they won't be.
Wasn't this all true when they played OSU? Surely it won't matter vs the lowly Boilers, right? Am I missing something?
-
LSU would be like a 10-12 favorite vs Purdue, bro.
-
Boilers ain't impressed

I like the train tracks on the helmet stripe. CHOO CHOO!

Holy F stop playing zone defense

At least one of them is trying their best.

how many points were they favored by over that sh*tty ACC team they lost to and that even worse Texas 4&8 team that blew them out? Thanks.
-
Holy F stop playing zone defense
for real. Michigan is a man coverage team, been a man coverage team all year. for some reason they've got their corners playing zone and off the ball 10 yards.
get yo isht together Minter.
-
JJ needs to calm his ass down. And Edwards needs to stop running so hesitant or try someone else.

You're the one bizzarely shitting on LSU. Don't have a lot to say about Purdue, though. Strange.
-
Edwards really has to be on the bench. He is not running effectively. He's running scared to fumble it.
-
Big mistake by Purdue
-
Yep. The offsides cost us 7 points. Can't have that in this game
-
JJ throws darts when he's on the run. Kid throws better on the run than he does from the pocket. It's weird.
-
Tom Herrman probably can't match this hype....but he sure as hell is gonna love the titty bars being in South Florida (if those stories about him are true).

In fairness, LSU lost to a terrible A&M team and struggled with a very poor Arkansas team. They were weirdly inconsistent. Had great moments this season but also moments they looked very mediocre.

don't forget they got boat raced at home by Tennessee and only put up 13 points on a Tennessee defense that SPENCER RATTLER and South Carolina put up like 70 on.
-

They played a TON of zone against OSU. Even in the red zone. It was smart- and effective. They gave up very few big plays.
-
next play Gemon Green makes at Michigan will be the first and only play he's ever made in his entire career at Michigan. Don't get why this guy plays so much.
-
AOC had an easy first down throw there. I get the gap he saw, but damn
-
They played a TON of zone against OSU. Even in the red zone. It was smart- and effective. They gave up very few big plays.
yes but they also played a lot of man and mixed in man with zone combo coverages.
opening of this game when Purdue was just torching them they were playing straight zone coverages across the board and their CBs were playing way off the ball and not getting in Purdue WRs face and just giving them free releases.
-
Michigan is a second half team. Idk why this team has been like that all season but for whatever reason thats just who they've been.
-
Nice pitch/catch there by Purdue
-
JJ just doesn't use his head sometimes. And damn how the f have Michigan only had 4 possessions in the first half?
-
Michigan starting MLB Junior Colson out. Apparently went to the tent, has his ankle wrapped. Great.
-
now it looks like EDGE Eyabi Okie is out. Already missing starting EDGE Mike Morris. Starting MLB Junior Colson just got knocked out.
Anyone else wanna get hurt?
-

Are you suggesting LSU wouldn't be favorited by 10-12 points vs Purdue?
You UM guys really belabor A point, just not THE point.

ESPN must have the halftime score wrong. It says 14-13. That can't be right.

hey genius Michigan has had 4 possessions total that first half, scored TDs on 50% of them. Oh and Edwards only has 10 rush attempts and he's playing with a cast on his broken right hand. He's RIGHT HANDED.

what a joke.

Michigan is fine

I’m not vegas so I have no idea. Michigan was +8.5 last week, did that matter?
Purdue was +17 today. I’m confident Vegas would view Michigan as a much better team that LSU. I doubt it’s as little as 5-7 points better, but again I’m not vegas and I’m not sure why this is what you’re stuck on rather than LSU’s results this year. Some great, some not so great.
-
Nick didn't mention Austin Peay

Bama is getting in. Saban isn't doing a dog and pony show just for fun.

yeah try being a RB playing with one hand- that just happens to not be your dominant hand.

never sh*t on Bama. LSU got very fortunate to beat Bama. LSU stinks. And if they face a team with a pulse at all in their bowl game they'll be a 5 loss team this season.
-
I HATE Jim Harbaugh sometimes. WTF this dolt always try to block punts. JUST LET THEM PUNT THE FKN BALL. Swear to fkn god every time this happens without fail. They got lucky it was just running into the kicker and not roughing. HEY JIM STOP TRYING TO BLOCK SHT ALL THE GD TIME MTHERFKER.

shit he's only got 1 hand and he's way better than anyone on Florida's team. Kinda crazy.

And Purdue declined the penalty. At least take the penalty and try to make Michigan jump on 4th. Wtf
yeah that was just WTF was that move by Brohm. At least try to get them to jump or re-punt it and try to pin them deeper.
-
I love Blake Corum. Great player. Great kid. Been saying it for months. Donovan Edwards is just better than he is. He's just built different. That's the best RB in the B1G. Don't think it's close.
-
And Purdue declined the penalty. At least take the penalty and try to make Michigan jump on 4th. Wtf
Yeah that was odd. I thought Purdue had been the better coaches team today outside of that call.
-
Am I the only one who thought that Deion would wait for the Florida State job? Either that or FSU is in such bad shape that he'll take his chances in Boulder.
-
Colorado is going to get A LOT better, really fast.
hopefully not before next September when Matt Rhule comes to Boulder
-
I didn't think Ralphie had that kind of money
-
DJ Turner just never makes plays. Always in position, always in good coverage. Just never makes the play. Now it looks like he's down.
Charlie Jones is really good. Brian Ferentz had this guy and said nah, no thanks. Lol.
-
Am I the only one who thought that Deion would wait for the Florida State job? Either that or FSU is in such bad shape that he'll take his chances in Boulder.
apparently there is some bad blood between Deion and FSU. Doesn't matter. He'll win at Colorado. And then when he does FSU will come get him.
-
That fake pitch back was absolutely amazing.
-
damn that fake pitch back just BURNED them. I've never seen that before.
-
THAT'S A FIVE STAR TRUE FROSH FOR YA.
That kid is a future 1st rd pick. Saw him up close at Penn State. Kid is built like an NFL player and he's 18.
-
$@#&
Well that might be game. Shitty throw there
-
damn that fake pitch back just BURNED them. I've never seen that before.
Never. I’ve never seen that. That was absolutely brilliant and he sold it so well. I mean I don’t care who you root for, that was simply fantastic.
-
winning at Colo shouldn't be that tough, no UCLA, no USC, no defense required, until you play Utah
-
Never. I’ve never seen that. That was absolutely brilliant and he sold it so well. I mean I don’t care who you root for, that was simply fantastic.
Brohm is a hell of a coach man. For real.

He is good. But that was a horrible throw. A decent throw and that was 6.
-
He is good. But that was a horrible throw. A decent throw and that was 6.
Charlie needs to get his head turned earlier
-
didn't like that call on 3rd and short. Illegal formation anyway.
But they should've let JJ have a run pass option off a roll out.
-
He is good. But that was a horrible throw. A decent throw and that was 6.
he turned his head and played the ball. OSU DBs could've learned a thing two from him lol.

yup. PAC has gotten weaker losing the two LA teams.

that's a good PI. give up 15 yards. not a TD.
-
he turned his head and played the ball. OSU DBs could've learned a thing two from him lol.
He just got beat again. But your right/ OSU DBs weren’t even close enough to intentionally interfere when they were beaten that bad.

true frosh going against a vet All-B1G WR Charlie Jones. Charlie Jones took him to school on that route.
I'd rather Will give up a 15 yard PI than a TD.
-
Bad penalty call. Should have been offsetting.
-

For sure. Ended up saving them 4 points.
-
anytime Purdue kicker wants to miss a FG, feel free. he's a damn good kicker man, drilling 40 yarders.
Minter seems to believe in that bend don't break. They'll give up yards but when they get into the red zone they get real stingy.
-
Bad penalty call. Should have been offsetting.
I agree. Defender rubbed his face in AOCs helmet
-
JJ trying to do too much. Getting too cute.
Now Jim ain't gonna let him throw the ball rest of the game lol.
-
that might work
-
Watching Jones is like watching Cooper Kupp. Kid is incredible.
-
I thought Michigan would put more pressure on O'Connell
-
Watching Jones is like watching Cooper Kupp. Kid is incredible.
yeah he’s a high level route runner.
Brian Ferentz had this kid and made him a non factor. Brian Ferentz should resign effectively immediately lol.
-
I thought Michigan would put more pressure on O'Connell
Wut lol? They’ve pressured and hit him a ton. He just gets rid of the ball super quick.
-

This is correct. Michigan has done a good job of throwing him off his game
-
This is correct. Michigan has done a good job of throwing him off his game
he's keeping Purdue in the game and playing his ass off. especially considering his circumstances with his family. impressive kid/player.
-
I am not convinced that Michigan isn’t as good as Georgia. Either way- I feel like those two have separated themselves.
Anyone else in the CFP will have a punchers’ chance as they say in boxing.
-
LMFAOOOOO how in the actual fk was that not a face mask?
-
Wow. Sometimes I wonder if announcers are paid to downplay bad calls.
I mean, the one angle was really hard to tell, but the other shows he clearly grabbed the side of his facemask. That’s bad
-
Oh and I hate Jim Harbaugh's game management, clock management, play calling. I seriously can't stand the guy. But he wins 12 games a year and beats Ohio State all of a sudden these last two years, so whatever. GET YER HED OUT YER AZZ JEEM.
-
never grabbed it with his fingers

baloney. he grabbed that shit and twisted his helmet. almost twisted his helmet off.

Jim doesn't present himself well on the sideline

Shit.

that #2 looks GOOOOOOOD on him. C Wood proud af somewhere right now watching this game.

Now that was a 5 star play by Johnson.
-
Ronnie Bell stinks
-
Now that was a 5 star play by Johnson.
his ball skills are way better than any CB on Michigan's team. And he's a true frosh.
Gemon Green or DJ Turner are like 5th year seniors- they should be able to do some of the stuff he does and play the ball. They don't.
Maybe ball skills are just something you're born with?
-
Well fuck. Good luck in the playoffs Michigan. Hope they win it all

"cause they wouldn't let me go for 3"
probably one of the great sports quotes ever. no lie.

yeah I don't think that was in bounds by Jones. They only replayed it once. WTF?
-
Mason Graham got HELD like a MF there. No call. Cool.
-

To make it a 3 possession game. Not a lot of downside for missing the 2 point conversion ( you still have a 15 point lead) but a big upside in making it.
-

Sorry. Didn’t read carefully. I thought you were talking about this game.

Don’t worry they let a PI go too lol. Weird series
-
too many FGs
80 more total yards, 10 more minutes of possession time, 9 more first downs
gotta get in the endzone
-
Brohm is usually super aggressive. I'm actually surprised that he didn't go for it on 4th down on any of those 5 FG attempts.
-

At the time the would have led 49-23 with the extra point, so 26 point lead, as opposed to going for 2 and having 27 point lead.
Danielson commented that Brian Kelley will play that video on a loop for the whole week next time these 2 teams play.

bend don't break. Michigan is limiting big plays and touchdowns. they'll let Purdue run clock and drive down the field all game. ain't giving up explosive td plays and they bow up in the red zone. Minter NFL style D. Did the same thing vs OSU last week.
-
GO FOR IT. END THE DAMN GAME ALREADY. JUST PICK UP THE 1ST AND GAME IS OVER.

with the win today, Jim Harbaugh is 25-2 in his last 27 games, lost only 1 B1G game, has won back to back B1G titles, and is heading to the playoff two years in a row. Still hard to believe after where he was in 2020 and that disastrous COVID year.
IDK wtf he did to turn things around as drastically as he has. I still don't get it. I still can't stand the guy. But hey, I'll take it.
-
Looks out of hand. Purdue played better than the score looks. A few mistakes cost them greatly. This is the difference between recruiting talent.
-

I thought he would for sure. Strange
-
JJ only attempted 17 passes. 3 of them went for TD's however.
Donovan Edwards runs for 185 yards and averages 7.5 YPC and scores a TD. Kid has had back to back big-time games with one hand. Insane.

Very good team and honestly a really fun team to watch. The one thing I really thought they should have done different is go for more 4th downs and settled for less field goals. Jones was simply not stoppable and they should have tried to hit him a few times on 4th down.
-
One huge mistake that cost Purdue 7-points was "offsides" in the 1st half on a field goal Michigan missed. Maybe the BTW is not that far distant from the BTE. I enjoyed watching Purdue's air offensive.
-
I mean, in fairness to Saban, what’s he supposed to say? “We probably don’t deserve to be in.”
He’s going with the best argument he’s got and the argument being used on here. The hypothetical “well who do you think would win” argument. But he’s only doing what any other coach would do.

That's fair, he can say what he needs to say, but at the same time other folks can fairly and openly criticize him for it.
To mimic your argument, what is anyone else supposed to say? "Oh yeah King Saban you're totally right. That school with fewer losses and the better SOS doesn't belong ahead of you."
It's the same as the old 1st amendment discussion. You have freedom of speech, but nobody ever guaranteed you freedom from consequences.

Vegas/Betting sites already releasing lines for playoff games.
FanDuel have:
UGA vs Ohio State and the line is -6.5 UGA with O/U at 57.5 pts.
Michigan vs TCU and the line is -9.5 Michigan with O/U at 58.5 pts.

If you are talking about Urban Meyer, I don't believe it is that simple. Until 2 years ago OSU was in a tier of its own in the Big Ten and nobody else was close. Michigan was in a second tier with PSU, MSU, and Wisc where it was not really obvious who was the best team in that tier from year to year Probably Wisconsin more often than anybody.
BUT the last 2 years, not only has Michigan elevated itself into the first tier with OSU but passed OSU. At the same time OSU is still clearly in a higher tier than the rest of the Big Ten, and is still ranked #5 in the country. So it's hard to argue that OSU has dropped off much. Michigan and Harbaugh has simply elevated itself to a new higher level.
I will say this. Michigan this year seems to be one of the strongest 2nd half teams I have seen. They simply take over in the 2nd half of games. I don't what they are doing to wear down the other team, but it is obvious they are. Could be just a talent gap that eventually kicks in. Or maybe it's a strength and conditioning thing. Michigan used to have a rep for looking like national champions after game 6 and then fizzling out late in the season. Which again suggests something has improved with strength and conditioning.
-
How often does Michigan substitute on defense? Some "good" opponents can stay with them with their ones but simply tire out and wear down because their twos really can't sub in.
-
I would feel more confident facing TCU than OSU but that may be helmet speaking.

Yeah, akin to Auburn's being down helps UGA.

I think when teams are both that level of talent, it can simply be tough to beat the same team twice in one season.
-
Wisconsin being down actually helps Michigan.
Completely agree. Littlepig’s post is great too. Wisconsin’s team was a great team to watch for a very good stretch. I preferred their style of play and coaching over Michigans for quite a while.
-
I think when teams are both that level of talent, it can simply be tough to beat the same team twice in one season.
Statistically, teams usually beat another team twice if they play, about 70% of the time. I don't think it's inherently tougher, but a competitive team obviously has a shot at winning.

Are you suggesting LSU wouldn't be favorited by 10-12 points vs Purdue?
You UM guys really belabor A point, just not THE point.
We might find out. I have seen one Bowl Projection already (College Football News) that has the Purdue-LSU matchup in the Citrus Bowl.

tough on the vegas guys
No, I'm not sorry

I doubt it's tough on the bookies. But I have thought for a while that taking every dog and the points in every bowl game might be a winning scenario.
So long as Vegas balances the bets, they have a guaranteed win.
-
I doubt it's tough on the bookies. But I have thought for a while that taking every dog and the points in every bowl game might be a winning scenario.
Well the Walvies have covered the number the last two contests

getting that balance w/o knowing what star players are going to opt out would be more difficult, I assume

This is why stretching the season is a bad Idea - they'll not get the Best - just what's left

Fox Sports horrifies Big Ten Championship viewers with Jim Harbaugh ref cam

Geez, this from FOX - the writer is spot on but, you'd think FOX would show some restraint with their prized program
-
This is why stretching the season is a bad Idea - they'll not get the Best - just what's left
I don't see any real downside. Coaches like it because they get extra practice time with what will be next season's team. For the fans, it's more football.
The bowl games have always been meaningless exhibitions, that's why they were created. And outside of the top few in a season that might have had MNC implications, they have always remained meaningless exhibitions.
Fans put way more stock into the outcomes, than the coaches or players ever have.
-
getting that balance w/o knowing what star players are going to opt out would be more difficult, I assume
I don't think so, you just adjust the line as bets come in.
-
well, they always do that
it's that when a couple star players opt out on the same day, a landslide of bets can come in before the adjustment
-
Statistically, teams usually beat another team twice if they play, about 70% of the time. I don't think it's inherently tougher, but a competitive team obviously has a shot at winning.
Wow very interesting. I’m surprised it’s that high. That being said, 30% of the time you have a split on the year and people are supposed to consider the team that won 2nd the better team?
I would say it’s one thing if the matchup is early in the year and the second one is late, but imagine if Michigan was 1, Purdue 2 and both undefeated going into last night, Michigan loses, but they face in the national championship and Michigan wins. I would just hate that scenario.

Some more data on this.
Contrary to popular belief, people don’t use merely 10% of their brains (except congressmen), Vikings didn’t wear horns on their helmets, you won’t drown or cramp just because you went swimming right after eating, George Washington didn’t have wooden teeth and, oh, yeah, it isn’t difficult for a football team to beat the same opponent twice in the same season.
How many times have we heard the last one?
It’s hard to beat the same team twice.
File that one away with: they are better than their record indicates and you have to establish the running game.

Statistically, teams usually beat another team twice if they play, about 70% of the time. I don't think it's inherently tougher, but a competitive team obviously has a shot at winning.
But I think there's another way to look at this.
For the sake of discussion, I'm going to assume that the "better" team wins the first game. But if that's the case, then the "inferior" team actually has a surprisingly high 30% chance of winning the second game, when they're technically not supposed to.
From a conference perspective, that's fairly alarming, because the second game is occurring in the CCG and you're getting a 30% error rate in that game. That's exactly what most of us are saying happened in the B12 CCG. I think most people believe TCU is better than KSU. So KSU just became part of that 30% error.
This time it might or might not knock TCU out of the CFP, but the fact that this risk exists at all, is a danger to a conference like the B12.

I was surfing some different forums and almost all said the same thing get Saban's whiny grecian formula face off their TVs
-ugh I like Nick OK, but get this fucker and his 2 losses off my TV
-Damn, Saban working the old guy #5 hair dye. Looks real natural…
-Someone needs to tell Saban that whiney begging is not a good look.
-Lol listen to that fuckhead
-It would almost be worth it for them to get in as the 4 seed and see Georgia beat them by 6 touchdowns
-Are they going to give all the other borderline teams a chance to make their case in prime time? WTF
-I love Saban's reasoning of Bama should be in because they would be favored over the other teams. Yeah, you were a heavy favorite against both Tennessee and LSU. You lost to both.
-What a pathetic loser. You played Austin-Peay two weeks ago. Get off my screen.
-Fox is so stupid giving the leader of an all ESPN property time to whine during the halftime CCG of a property they own most of
-Saban doing the "all these teams ahead of us lost this week, we should be moved up because of that" funny.... its conf championship week, they lost because they were presumably playing against better competition than Austin Fucking Peay.
-
^^^^
All valid criticisms. Which is why it's REALLY going to bother a lot of people when the committee puts Alabama into the CFP anyway. :)

"It would almost be worth it for them to get in as the 4 seed and see Georgia beat them by 6 touchdowns."
Of course they might woodshed the Buckeyes by 7 TDs
-
In competitive games, the "better" team might win 60% of the time. If so, their odds of winning twice is only 36%, but their odds of winning the second game after the first would be 60%.
Rematches are really not remarkably hard to win again.
-
All valid criticisms. Which is why it's REALLY going to bother a lot of people when the committee puts Alabama into the CFP anyway. :)
I really doubt this happens. It's Ohio State and TCU I'm pretty sure. The committee has no special love for Bama.
-

We'll see in a few short hours, I believe.
I'd be pleasantly surprised by the committee, if they can resist the temptation to include Alabama.
-
What would be the motivation by the committee members to include Alabama? Saban's "speech"?
I doubt they care, at all, about Alabama.
-
motivation by the folks that select and pay the committee
the networks
let's see, ratings...... Bama or TCU?
-
I suppose I am naively thinking the committee has no such motivations. None of them are vying to stay on the committee or try to favor something to remain or get paid more.
-

I’ve actually been pleasantly surprised I haven’t heard a lot of campaigning for Bama to get in (other than Saban). Joel Klatt was pretty dismissive of Bama’s chances last night. Heather Dinich wrote an article this morning comparing resumes and concluded TCU will probably get the nod.
Like you said, we’ll see in a couple of hours.

But Joel Klatt is Fox's ANTI-SEC mouthpiece, and therefore anti-Alabama. I'm not saying I disagree with him, I actually like his commentary and his alternative views, but he clearly has a Fox-led agenda to campaign AGAINST any additional SEC teams' inclusion in the CFP.
-
Who has been pushing for Bama aside from Saban in the media?
Paul Finebaum rips Nick Saban for lobbying for CFP spot: 'His arguments ... are as inconsistent as his football team' (saturdaydownsouth.com) (https://www.saturdaydownsouth.com/alabama-football/paul-finebaum-rips-nick-saban-for-lobbying-for-cfp-spot-his-arguments-are-as-inconsistent-as-his-football-team/)
-
Finebaum has Georgia, Michigan, TCU and Ohio State making up his Playoff field, as do many analysts and fans around the country.
Will that indeed be the field? We’ll have to see on Sunday at noon Eastern time when the final top 25 CFP rankings are released on ESPN.
-
I wouldn't have too much of a problem if the committee put Bama on top of tOSU last week. But neither team played so that would be flip flopping and IMO they can't remove TCU as they won conference. So the Buckeyes would be the only one being jumped and that would be a PR debacle.
-
if I saw someone that looked like that with that look on their face in public I'd run in the other direction. this dude is looooney tunes.
According to a joint report from NFL insiders Ian Rapoport and Tom Pelissero, multiple NFL teams have been conducting background work on Harbaugh for potential jobs. And while Harbaugh said he intends to remain at Michigan after NFL flirtations last season, one source believes the right job could entice Harbaugh.
From the report:
One NFL source plugged into the situation said they believe Harbaugh would consider a return to the NFL, and a source with another team that could be running a head-coaching search said they believe Harbaugh would discuss an opening if asked and weigh the right situation.

Big deal ESPN had 4 SEC teams in the top 4 midway thru the '14 season and 3 of the 4 fell off the radar except for the Tide.Almost like political bickering.
-
TCU did not win their conference.
My bad,but they did go to OT and lost by 3,yes but Bama doesn't have a legit complaint nor does tOSU if either is left out

I think it's pretty clear it'll be 3 TCU and 4 OSU, possibly reversed.

Why is this your response any time I make a remark? You've got a serious case of nogbrain.
Seriously, TCU is way down the list. It'd be like saying all of Ohio would tune in to watch Dayton or Bowling Green play.

I would before watching Bama again - that's the point.

Evidently Bwarb bailing spurred on the Boilers this season

Heh... good point. The one person I know who cares about TCU, doesn't live in Texas. :)

Could be? Let's hope so. I'd rather not see a 2-loss Alabama get into the CFP. Like I said initially, I'll be pleasantly surprised if the committee avoids the temptation.

Amon-Ra St Brown, Jameson Williams, and Charlie Jones would be a nasty young WR corps.

I think it's misoverestimated.
They have some influence, mostly among fans who watch the shows and maybe think their "experts" are really experts. I doubt Vegas, for example, gives them any time of day.
This FPI thing routinely includes oddities and I think very few people pay it any attention.

Oh, I think some folks overestimate it
but, controlling how much media attention and what type of attention certain conferences, teams, coaches, and players get is powerful
-
When your conference champs have 2-3-4 losses, I don't have qualms about leaving them out for one loss at large teams. It's still a judgment, at some point one could rationalize a two loss team getting in of course (short of the 12 thing).

Alabama's best argument isn't at the expense of TCU, but of OSU. Alabama hasn't had a chance vs UGA, UM, or TCU. OSU has. You can obviously argue that Bama didn't earn that chance (failed to win the SEC West), but in terms of rematch avoidance, they should make that a big deal.
Honestly though, if TCU stays 3rd, then what is the point in even playing the games anymore?? Just buy a game like Whoa Nellie and play out the season that way. No torn knees or concussion protocals, just dice rolls and bitchin'.

We'll do it as soon as the Heisman corrects it's description of being given to the "most outstanding player." lol
-
I would feel more confident facing TCU than OSU but that may be helmet speaking.
doubtful. Ohio State just has the better more talented skill players and linemen than TCU. Especially if JSN is healthy enough to play in a month. CJ Stroud, Marvin Harrison, JSN, and Paris Jackson are all 1st round NFL locks. Then they have other guys on that offense that will be 2nd-4th rd picks. TCU just does not have that many future NFL draft picks on their offense.
I think Georgia beats either team comfortably. But Ohio State may be able to make it a game, especially if JSN is healthy enough to play in a month. LSU put up 500+ passing yards on LSU. CJ Stroud is A LOOOOOOT better than Jayden Daniels (he sucks) and Garrett Nussmeier (a frosh backup). Marv + JSN are A LOOOOOT better than LSU's WRs. Ohio State's upperclass tackle duo of Paris Jackson Jr and Dawand Jones are A LOOOOT better than LSU's true frosh duo. Jackson about to be a top 10 pick in the upcoming draft and Jones ain't lasting past the 2nd rd.

yeah if you listened to your ass they went 12-0. Look buddy, LSU is NOT that good. And Jayden Daniels really sucks. His teammates at Arizona State openly said it when he left. Bunch of them said f this guy who cares he sucks and posted that ish on social media. Kid is traaaaash.

Purdue has a better coach and QB than LSU. We might actually get to see that match up. Give me Brohm with a month to prepare over Brian Kelly.

Are you on the spectrum?
I said LSU is better than Purdue, and you just specify opinions about the QBs and HCs. Who cares? LSU would be a healthy favorite if they played today. Why can't you just acknowledge that?
It's truly bizarre.
AND you failed to quote any of my posts about how phenomenal LSU is.

This.
Every coach of every team would say something. If you don't advocate for yourself, then you're a dumbshit.
Every 2 loss coach didn't get an audience at half time of a nationally broadcast game
-
A few moments means 15 minutes plus
-
Actually, you were shitting on Alabama, who was LSU's best win. Now you're suggesting I'm obsessing about LSU.
You seem stressed.
Just as before that you had to point out Michigan was losing at halftime,so no dig there right?
-
Were other coaches asked if they'd like to say something?
Don't know.
-
Every 2 loss coach didn't get an audience at half time of a nationally broadcast game
I hate his argument. He’s blasting osu. That final score isn’t a reflection of the game. Also, Bama not only had two losses, but they only snuck past Texas Because Ewers got hurt and they struggled with A&M also. Dude keeps beating his chest that they only had close losses but their wins aren’t impressive either
-
Just as before that you had to point out Michigan was losing at halftime,so no dig there right?
You're quoting my post that was correcting mdot's getting mad at me for mis-ranking LSU 6th, when I was actually speaking about Bama, who is 6th.
Why are you quoting my correction of mdot's mistake?

They weren't offered the air time evidently

Personally, I hate this whole situation. I don't think any of the 3rd-7th place teams deserve a playoff spot. This reeks of 2007 to me.
We have Georgia and Michigan....and then a bunch of crap salad.
TCU lost to 3-loss KSU YESTERDAY and probably won't move down at all. Rendering that game literally meaningless.
OSU lost by 3+ possession to UM.
Alabama lost twice.
Tennessee got curb-stomped by a team that didn't score an offensive point the game before.
Penn State finished 3rd in its own division.
.
Give the 1 and 2 seeds a bye, lol.
That would honestly be the #1 best decision made by the committee, ever.
-
Because you have a bad habit of skipping over your hypocrisy that's why.He brought up Edwatds injury not Bryce Young who he didn't mention or wasn't playing
I don't see where I was hypocritical.

The college football regular season is officially meaningless.
TCU should have forfeited yesterday.

Too busy being mean to me to actually clarify the point. Yawn.

btw, every single one of you would be going ape-shit if it was 2 SEC teams and not 2 B1G teams in. So there's that.
-
early 2025 5* WR from Fort Myers just commits to....Deion Sanders and Colorado. Deion gonna recruit like a moFO.
-
I do see a parallel with 2007 here, though.
In 07, the #2 team kept losing the last few weeks of the season.
.
This year, the teams vying for the 4 seed kept losing (Tennessee, Clemson, USC, LSU (twice), Oregon). You could include TCU in that, except TCU lost and wasn't penalized at all.
-
They were only unpenalized in order to avoid an OSU-Michigan semifinal. Otherwise they'd have dropped to 4, and OSU would have moved up to 3.
-

Yeah OR maybe they just had a better resume and strength of schedule than Ohio St?

they more or less did forfeit in OT

The game was a sham. The outcome was meaningless.
If TCU lost to KSU in October, they'd move down 4 or 5 spots. But because they lost to them yesterday, they.......stay put?!?!? The hell?

To older fans, Harbaugh is the gutsy UM QB, guided by Bo.
For me, he's the scrappy Colts QB who almost got them to the Super Bowl.
But for a whole younger generation, he's the psycho khakis guy.
In any even, he's peaking now.
Thanks to Urban's exit. You know, in case mdot missed that post. That's why UM's last 2 seasons happened.

the old adage was, "can afford to lose early, can't afford to lose late"
but, as we know, EVERYONE, even the committee simply counts number of losses
no real intelligence needed
-
Long way off there, hell Deion could be there and gone by then
That's what I'm thinking.
Deion is only in Boulder for 4+ years if he's average.
.
He's gone in 2 if he's REALLY successful. Gone in 3 or 4 if he stinks it up.
-
I don't know what else one could have done but what was done, with TCU or anyone else. It was as expected by most.
Alabama is going to have a slew of sit outs, so bet against them.
UGA is a 6.5 fav over OSU.
-
I hope he stinks to high heaven for 4 years
-
Donovan Edwards won MVP of the B1G Championship game, and when asked about his performance he shout out Blake Corum and said that Corum is the best RB in America and would've easily won the Heisman if he didn't get hurt. He's probably right. Edwards has run for 401 yards and 3 TDs in the last 2 games. If Corum had put up those numbers to close out, he's at 1,864 rush yards and 21 TDs and he's probably winning the Heisman after Caleb Williams crapped the bed vs Utah.
Kinda crazy that Blake Corum isn't even the best RB on his own team. Cause Blake Corum is pretty fkn good man.

This.
Every coach of every team would say something. If you don't advocate for yourself, then you're a dumbshit.
I agree with this. There are more than a few situations where you should advocate for yourself even if you have a terrible argument.
-
Kind of surprised to see Coastal's Chadwell going to HC at Liberty. He couldn't get a better gig than that?!?
He has been held back for a while because he wants to bring a lot of his staff, and bigger schools are gun shy about having very little high-level recruiting background.
Liberty is just gonna pay an obnoxious amount of money. So you might as well get paid a bunch more to do the same thing you’re doing. Frankly, someone should’ve hired him, but this sport is oft stupid.
-
Donovan Edwards is just freakish. Six of his 13 career TD's have been about 60 yards or more (58 to be exact, but hey whose counting). Michigan's offense goes to another level with him starting because he is more explosive than Corum and he's a weapon in the pass game- and Corum just ain't much of a threat as a pass catcher. Still would've been really nice to have Corum as the #2 RB and picking up the tough yards. Jeem should've started JJ last year and he should've started DE this year.
Not so hot take- Edwards will be the first RB taken in the 2024 NFL Draft.

Old man clutching your pearls.
If he was a B1Ger, you'd like his 'eye of the tiger' hatred for the opponent. And when Tebow cried, everyone made fun of him, but when Duggan does it, it's commendable.
The hypocrisy knows no bounds.

If he was a B1Ger, you'd like his 'eye of the tiger' hatred for the opponent. And when Tebow cried, everyone made fun of him, but when Duggan does it, it's commendable.
The hypocrisy knows no bounds.
huge Tebow fan so yer barking up the wrong tree there sport.
And nah, it was a pretty classless thing to do but Caleb Williams kinda has a rep of being a douchebag.

Tebow says, "Nay!"
Tebow is still trying to master a manual transmission.

This is about the only reason to pay attention to the Heisman in my mind. I like their commercials (better than nearly any of the rest).
The Fansville commercials are OK. Most of the rest are horrible.
-
Yeah OR maybe they just had a better resume and strength of schedule than Ohio St?
That isn't nearly as clear as you are making it out to be.
Yes, TCU's loss was closer but they also won FIVE games by one score. Ohio State has a bigger loss but it was to a better team than any TCU played and Ohio State has zero one-score wins.
-
bend don't break. Michigan is limiting big plays and touchdowns. they'll let Purdue run clock and drive down the field all game. ain't giving up explosive td plays and they bow up in the red zone. Minter NFL style D. Did the same thing vs OSU last week.
I was going to point out the same thing.
If Purdue gets TD's instead of FG's that would be 20 more points, that game goes to OT.
If tOSU had scored TD's instead of FG's it would have been 28-17 at the half and 35-28 (tOSU lead) midway through the fourth.
The above is ABSOLUTELY NOT a knock on Michigan, it is too their credit. Forcing FG's is why they won.

Harbaugh is sort of like the Houston Rockets when Jordan retired.
I don’t think Michigan is winning now because Ohio St is worse. I just think Michigan is better.

It's all related.......Urban is gone. Talent difference, gameday difference. Results different.
Just my opinion, I'm probably wrong.

I assume the Las Vegas Bowl has already sold out, but maybe I'll be able to pick up a ticket somewheres....

It is possible that it relates more to "fit" than just talent and coaching, I don't know if that is the case here. My impression of Ohio State is that it is more of a "finesse team" that can bury you with passing and the occasional run thrown in, with a defense best left on the sideline. That works great against "Purdue". Maybe Michigan has evolved into more of an SEC/Bama style of team that just wears you down with a good OL, good RBs, good D, and in time buries you with plays over the top. OSU has to bring safties up to stop the run and get burned eventually.
I don't know if this is the case, but it has played out this way of late. OSU remains uber talented, but a bad match for what UM has become.

I think if you look at the data/stats now that we have a full season you will see that your impression of Ohio State is an oversimplification if not just off.
Let’s start with Michigan. Clearly their total performance has risen to national elite status. That is not even debatable. For the second season in a row they are clearly one of the best two or three teams in the entire country. Let’s give MDOT some credit here. He has been saying for several seasons now that having the right quarterback was holding Michigan back and that has proven to be true. They now have a dangerous quarterback who can run or pass and that makes Michigan, given their excellent run game, very difficult for anyone to stop. They have been extremely good on defense all along. Especially when it comes to playing against the run. But let’s not forget that it took Harbaugh until his seventh season and Ann Arbor to finally get a win over Ohio State. Last year in Ann Arbor Michigan physically dominated Ohio State on both sides of the line. Even though they gave up 400 yards of passing, they won rather easily because Ohio State could not run the ball and could not stop the run. I will add that in 2016 the game was a nailbiter and Ohio State won but that probably had to do with Ohio State having a better quarterback.
Ohio State is so far from A finesse team that is silly to view them that way. And their defense is quite good. They are a top 15 team and virtually every category of difference from stopping the run to stopping the pass to total points to total defense. They have improved dramatically in all of those categories. They do not have to “bring up their safeties” to stop the run. You don’t get to be too 15 in both run and pass defense by doing that. Yes, they do that sometimes when they’re trying to disrupt the other team from staying on schedule, and they do that sometimes when the other team is really good at running the ball, like Michigan is. And yes occasionally they get burned with a big play by doing that.
And unfortunately for them- that strategy combined with their over emphasis on stopping Michigan’s run game led to explosive plays that all resulted in TDS. How else does a quarterback only complete 12 passes all game, and 3 go for long tDs?
would it surprise you to know that Ohio State is a top five team in virtually every category of offense including passing and scoring as well as total offense? They are 23rd in total rushing with just under 200 yards a game. They are not a finesse team at all but rather a team that seeks to be very balanced by moving the ball by creating run pass conflict for the Defense.
The rivalry game has long been a mental game for whatever reason. And in this year‘s game Harbaugh clearly was in Ryan days head. Ohio State flinched badly and made mistakes they had not made all year. Dropped balls, stupid penalties, easy assignments missed, etc. that is a credit to Harbaugh and a legitimate big criticism of Ryan Day.
I will add that everybody talks about Michigan winning that game without their best player, but let’s be honest, how big a drop off is there from running back number 1, to back number two?
on the other side Ohio State was missing their best receiver, their top FOUR RBs from their beginning Depth Chart ( Henderson, Williams,Pryor, and Coffey). They started a guy who was playing LB until a month ago. They were also missing their best run blocking guard (Jones)and had to limit their best D tackle to 4 or 5 plays due to a busted up shoulder. ( Hall)
And yet they drove into the red zone for the potential tying score with 8 minutes left in the game despite having played badly.
Yes- from there they gambled and tried to get the ball back, and gave up 2 long TD runs to a great RB they had limited to 2.7 yards per carry for 3 1/2 Quarters.
you could say they choked. That would be fair and accurate. But it would also be uncharacteristic- they won every game up to this point by double digits and overcame adversity by taking control of the game.
their defense has been way better than you’re giving them credit for and they are far more physical team than you’re giving them credit for.
How they do against Georgia, I can’t say. Georgia also has a very mobile accurate quarterback, an elite defense, and a strong running game. But my guess is win or lose, they won’t make some of the self-inflicted errors that they made against Michigan because, well it isn’t Michigan lol.
-
You likely are more correct than I, I was pondering the "fit" aspect of a contest being as important as the talent aspect.
-
Some OSU fans who follow the program more closely might disagree but I haven’t seen any slippage from Meyer to Day. In fact, Day has at least cut out the “WTF just happened” losses that plagued Meyer. When Day loses he loses he at least loses to better quality teams.
-

Good Post since there is only one ball how much better with Corum having Edwards carries would UM be considering Edwards 216 yds? That sparked the the lead then the route at the end.JS-N was the early season favorite to win the Biletnikoff Award.Based on two number 1st rd receivers said he was better than they were. But JS-N still would not have covered for Day/Knowles lack of half time defensive adjustments.I honestly had to go back to John Cooper to see such lack of side line insight

I agreed with most of your post, but this part is interesting and you are down playing not having Corum. How big a drop? A Heisman candidate that is one of the best in the country being injured is always a drop off and Michigan’s running game struggling until two late game long td runs is proof of the difference. Edwards is a good RB, but Corum’s style fits this Michigan system perfectly.
Secondly, Michigan had other high end players out as well. It’s not like it was just Corum and then the Buckeyes were missing large amounts of talent with Michigan missing just their Heisman candidate: Michigan was missing their best defensive end and also their best Tight end, who likely was one of the best in the nation in Erick All.
it’s no excuse because every team faces injury during the season, but the tone of your post sounded like everyone is talking about Corum and ignoring that osu was actually missing more talent. I’m not sure that was the case and I could have misunderstood your point.
-
OSU was missing half the rbs to injuries but played little. Why Day went away from Xavier Johnson who had 2 carries for 24 yds or Hayden who may be the quickest and had 147 the week before is a head scratcher. It's the jimmies and the joes not the Xs and the Os

This is a good post. Erick All was a huge loss- he killed OSU last year. And add Schoonmaker. It really is a tribute to the UM coaching staff on developing and recruiting TEs.
also- can’t disagree about Corum. Anything less than him is a drop off.
But the equivalent for OSU would be no Edwards or Corum or Gash or Stokes, and starting and playing Jalel Mullins for 95% of the carries.
Plus- how do you really measure the loss of Smith-Njigba? It is a showstopper against a great defense like Michigan. You can put a safety over the top on Harrison on every play- which they did. Egbuka and Fleming are really good- but IMHO no receiver in the game is as good at getting open in those shell- covers schemes UM employed so well- as NJigba. Especially in the red zone.
But my post was more of a reaction to the “ Michigan won without their best player” narrative. Yes- they sure as hell did, and it was impressive! On the other hand, OSU went through most of the season without 2 out of Three of their game changers. Njigba and Trevon Henderson.
I think a lot of people forgot just how dangerous Henderson is when he is healthy and I do think he will remind people that when he does get healthy.
-
Everybody by now is missing important pieces, duh, some more than others.
UGA is relatively healthy, but missing their best ILB, the rest should be OK.
-
Treveyon has never blown me away. That might be because Osu RB have been absurdly good in my lifetime. In my teens, I was still a big UM guy but how could you not be in awe of Eddie George? Then guys like Clarrett & Beanie, Zeke, etc. so weirdly I probably don’t give Treveyon enough credit.
Njigba I probably don’t either. I think he’s a stud, one of the best in the country, but Marvin Jr is possibly the best WR I’ve ever consistently watched in college. I seriously don’t get why they don’t throw to him more. I think he had 8 targets, 7 receptions and 120 yards against Michigan. Like why not throw at him 13-15 times? He makes amazing plays.
AlsoX I don’t hear the Treveyon argument well because I think Day played the wrong back anyways. Should have been Hayden. After Corum went out, Michigan kept handing off to Stokes which I thought was insane. Finally they adjusted and started handing off to Edwards, while Day never made the adjustment.
So yes, Buckeyes were missing talent, but I think they were primarily outcoached.

Out coached? You are being kind my friend 😂😂.
I do understand your thoughts on Henderson. As a freshmen he was amazing but got hurt about halfway through the season, and was not the same. He was on a great trajectory up to that point. He is a lot like Edwards- great pass catcher and a home run hitter if he clears the LOS. He is not like Corum( or Dobbins) in that he can make 6 yards even when we’ll defended.
But you should withhold final judgement on him, as I am sure you would anyway, until we see him fully healthy.
As for Njigba and Harrison- I agree with you. What is often misunderstood though is the impact of Njigba’s amazing ability to get separation quickly versus man or zone, especially when teams play the type of coverage schemes UM ran. It makes it extremely difficult to defend OSU and try the bend but don’t break. Harrison is awesome, but that is not his forte. Just look at last years Rose Bowl. Utah tried that scheme- and both Njigba and Harrison lit them up because they simply could not cover both.
That’s why Njigbas absence has hurt the most
-
Something i saw McCarthy do in the 2nd half vs the Boilers was really thread the needle on a TD throw, low, tight spiral into a small window. If he can do that consistently coupled with his running he'll be a load. There was no lift or hangtime on that dart
-
My take on Corum being out is that it SHOULD have made a big difference but was largely negated by the tOSU coaching staff apparently not realizing that he wasn't playing.
I've seen some Michigan fans say that Edwards is better, I don't know. I think they are different. If my team had a third and one and I could choose one I'd take Corum because I think he is tougher and harder to bring down. If my team had a RB get a good block and break the LOS with a lot of space in front of him and I could choose one I'd take Edwards because I think he is a better and faster open-field runner.
When I say that tOSU's coaching staff apparently didn't realize that Corum wasn't playing, I'm referring to their first half strategy. They made it REALLY tough for Michigan to run and that part worked.
Michigan's first half drives were four three-and-outs, one 10 play, 44 yard drive for a FG, and the two long play TD's. Even there, the first one came on 3rd and 9.
Here were Michigan's plays on the four three-and-outs and the two plays leading up to the 3rd and 9, 69 yard TD:
- Run, 2 on 1st and 10
- Run, 3 on 2nd and 5
- Incomplete on 3rd and 5
- Run, -1 on 1st and 10
- Incomplete on 2nd and 11
- Incomplete on 3rd and 11
- Run, 4 on 1st and 10
- Run, 5 on 2nd and 6
- Run, 0 on 3rd and 1
- Pass, 0 on 1st and 10
- Pass, 8 on 2nd and 10
- False start on 3rd and 2
- False start on 3rd and 7
- Pass, 4 on 3rd and 12
- Run, 2 on 1st and 10
- Run, -1 on 2nd and 8
They simply didn't need to be THAT aggressive.
-
My take on Corum being out is that it SHOULD have made a big difference but was largely negated by the tOSU coaching staff apparently not realizing that he wasn't playing.
It was the scheme not the player they were unprepared for IMO.Edwards more than filled in handsomely who knows it could have turned into a Wally Pip situation
