O’Connell is a very good QB. Michigan needs to keep him off the field and pressure him when he’s on it.wonder how Corum's knee and Edwards' right hand will be in a week. would be nice if Corum can actually cut and Edwards doesn't have to wear a cast on his right hand.

Michigan opens in Vegas as a 16.5 point favorite. SP+ has Michigan as a 24 point favorite. There is no "thinking" about it, they are. For Michigan this game is only about seeding and even there I'm not sure that it matters.
Hopefully Mike Morris and Blake Corum will be back in time. Both remain to be seen.
This game kind of scares me. Especially if Michigan get overconfident and thinks they're already in the playoff no matter what.
Looks like Michigan DT Mazi Smith will be out for the Big Ten championship game.yikes. they need him BAD if they are going to make a serious playoff run. wtf is it with damn athletes and rappers with guns.

This game matters IF UGA loses but that is highly unlikely. Also, even there depending on who #4 is it is entirely possible that Michigan would be better off at #2 facing TCU than at #1 facing USC.UGA also is a 16.5 point favorite ...
UGA also is a 16.5 point favorite ...I feel like TCU is probably the more scary team. They are more well rounded.
USC looks scary to me.
I think I'll wait until I hear the details before I try to make some kind of moral equivalence argument with what Sparty did in Michigan's tunnel. You mean before you say Michigan has a thug culture?
Looks like Michigan DT Mazi Smith will be out for the Big Ten championship game. How do figure he will be out? This happened on October 7th. Interesting timing.

How do figure he will be out? This happened on October 7th. Interesting timing.Don't know, just a guess from an optics point of view. Apparently he was not arrested at the time. Timing makes it very puzzling.
Detroit News updated it's story...So your take is players with pending felony charges should play until everything plays out? Woudn't be the first Michigan football star to have a gun charge dropped in recent memory. I'm sure the Detroit media will make sure its framed correctly
"We are aware of the charge against Mazi from a traffic stop back in October," Michigan athletic director Warde Manuel said in a statement Thursday. "Mazi was honest, forthcoming and cooperative from the very beginning and is a tremendous young man. He is not and never has been considered a threat to the University or community.
"Based on the information communicated to us, we will continue to allow the judicial process to play out. Mazi will continue to participate as a member of the team."
Having read that I'm guessing little to nothing will comes of the charge.
Warde and Harbaugh confirm that they trust Mazi and he'll be allowed to play...after demanding in a press conference that every MSU player be charged.Maybe if Mazi gave someone a concussion or beat someone with it he'd have been suspended?
I wonder if Warde did clarify that Mazi wil not be able to borrow his car to drive drunk, crash it, and give the cops a fake name, with zero questions asked, as Michigan captains are typically allowed to under his watch. It sure seems like the point of the Ann Arbor police force is to take care of Michigan athletics
Those guys were caught on video swinging helmets and trying to stomp on guys and was a National story. That guy was caught swinging his helmet. And he was charged with a felony. Then also ask why it was a national story. Remember the whole ESPN MSU Title 9 story started because ESPN FOIAd a bunch of schools, and MSU was the only one to decline, so ESPN fought them on it. Eventually it came out, and MSU was on par with normal prosecution rates, and actually prosecuted athletes at a higher rate. But the schools requested were MSU, not Michigan; Oklahoma State, not Oklahoma; Texas Tech, not Texas.
Historically, Ann Arbor police have been quite adverse to Michigan athletes. If this happened to one of Dantonio's thugs the East Lansing police probably would have loaded and test fired the pistol for them. /sThugs again? Another big yikes
Purdue is getting it done in football and basketball. Great job, Boilers...Helmet school :57:
Then ask why Michigan stars keep getting sweetheart deals by local prosecution?I agree with MDOT here, but this statement just seems off. Which Michigan stars have gotten sweetheart deals? I may live under a rock, but is this a common thing?

I moved on already, I already responded to the previous Purdue comment. It way easier to talk about football. Not like any UM fan would talk about "thug culture"
Corum doneHe's very good, but IMO, Edwards is better, and Corum is a good RB made great by the OL. Edwards has never had to carry the whole workload, so that would be my only hesitation, but I think he's the best running back Michigan has had since Wheatley. Better than Biakabatuka, Perry or Hart

hey guys can we get back to talking about the game and not speculating on a case that we don't know the details yet and comparing alleged crimes committed by MSU/Michigan players?Have the gun laws in Michigan changed since I left there in 2016? Back then you could not even get that permit until you were 18 years old, and it was good for 5 years. Isn’t Mazi Smith 21?
there is a lot we still don't know yet. some "insiders" over on the michigan boards are claiming Mazi's concealed carry permit expired and he has since renewed it. i don't know what happened but i am not going to crucify the 20 year old kid. let's wait to find out more before we go that route maybe.
my position remains this: if you're a high profile athlete in college or pros, you probably shouldn't be carrying guns period or out late. especially if you're a pro and you've got millions. hire security and when you have that kinda money you can have anything brought to you- you don't need to be out late to get anything weather it be food, drugs, alcohol, girls....that stuff can be brought to your house. like cris carter said....when you're rich...get a fall guy. he caught flack for that- but he was on point. gotta be smart. like it or not- if you are a high profile athlete you are a target.
Second straight weapons charge that was swept under the rug. But fine, lets not talk about it. I moved on already, I already responded to the previous Purdue comment. Corum doneYeah how would that doofus Ian Rapport know this? He covers the NFL, has zero connections to Michigan or Harbaugh, and Harbaugh and his staff don’t talk.

Why does a guy that size have to carry anyway.Unless you are in seedy areas of of inner cities then that's some stoopid shyt

Edwards has never had to carry the whole workload, so that would be my only hesitation, but I think he's the best running back Michigan has had since Wheatley. Better than Biakabatuka, Perry or HartWe’ve both been saying this for awhile. Edwards is a SPECIAL talent at RB. Like, I could see him going 1st rd. Corum is really good, but he’s not 1st rd good. Probably more like 2nd or 3rd.
Maybe if Mazi gave someone a concussion or beat someone with it he'd have been suspended? You mean a guy who played the following week? Same guy who followed MSU to the door dropping F-Bombs,ya know before U of M recording stopped. Then miraculously came back on when Spartans were swinging
We’ve both been saying this for awhile. Edwards is a SPECIAL talent at RB. Like, I could see him going 1st rd. Corum is really good, but he’s not 1st rd good. Probably more like 2nd or 3rd.I agree Edwards is,but dipshit day never kept 2 guys back on those runs, maddening.Did Edwards hurt his hand
Why does a guy that size have to carry anyway.Unless you are in seedy areas of of inner cities then that's some stoopid shytGood point. Mazi is like 6’3/6’4, 330. He could lift a grown man up and snap em in half with one arm.
Maybe it’s your approach and consistent bad mouthing of a Michigan fan. He's the one who said MSU had a thug culture. I said that was in poor taste and asked him if he applied it to his own school
Purdue has a lot more on the line because with a win they go to the Rose Bowl as League Champions for the first time in a LONG time. With a loss they drop a lot.The Rose Bowl gets to choose who plays from the Big Ten if a Big Ten team is in the FBS playoff, and it is widely thought they are leaning on selecting Penn State. It appears Michigan is poised to be in the playoff regardless whether they win. If the Rose Bowl selects Penn State, Ohio State goes to the Orange Bowl assuming Ohio State is not in the FBS playoff.

They have been there 3 times in 5 years and are not confident about ticket sales.
ESPN analytics favor Utah over USC. There is reason for Ohio State fans to be hopeful.
My team has not had a healthy running back virtually all season. In the most important game of the year, We gave 19 carries to a decent player but he was playing linebacker three weeks ago🥴Dallan Hayden as Fr could have got more snaps.Hits the hole finds the crease and follows the blocks.Had 147 the week before nothing wrong with giving Trayanum or Xav Johnson the rock but he clearly added another dimension.Problem is as I understand it losing the 2 Joneses & Johnson and I forget who else off of the o-line he might have to wait another yr to blossom
Ohio State has openly asked the Rose Bowl to choose PSU. They have been there 3 times in 5 years and are not confident about ticket sales.I don't think they are allowed to. And why would Penn State fans care any more?
specifically PSU or would the bucks also be fine with Purdue taking the spotI think Purdue fans would be in if they got there by beating Michigan. Sort of like Utah last year. In the CFP era, I don't think anyone cares about getting there otherwise. Like if MSU had gone to the Rose instead of the Peach last year, as their NY6 Bowl, I don't think MSU fans would have travelled again. I think a Big Ten champ, other than maybe Ohio State, still would travel well
Ohio State has openly asked the Rose Bowl to choose PSU.just think the wording seems odd
it would be WAY better than the 12 they're aiming forI don't like 4, but I hate the way they chose to go to 12 even more. I like the 5-2-1 model I proposed above, but I think I like the 10-2, with home games even more, because it gives meaning to all of the conference championships, but in all reality, those teams are just going to get crushed anyway, so it's essentially an 8 team playoff, but the 5-8 seeds have to swat away some pests at home
Ohio State has openly asked the Rose Bowl to choose PSU. They have been there 3 times in 5 years and are not confident about ticket sales. Then the feelings the Rose Bowl has, and Ohio State football has, are mutual. I would rate the probability of the Buckeyes getting in the playoff at about 40%. USC and TCU are at risk of going down this weekend.
I don't think they are allowed to. And why would Penn State fans care anyhttps://www.msn.com/en-us/sports/ncaafb/ohio-state-reportedly-requested-to-not-be-selected-for-rose-bowl/ar-AA14LImy
Makes me wonder if not the Rose Bowl, where does Ohio State want to end up besides the playoff?Orange Bowl. Versus ACC champ
https://www.msn.com/en-us/sports/ncaafb/ohio-state-reportedly-requested-to-not-be-selected-for-rose-bowl/ar-AA14LImy"reportedly"
"reportedly"I have seen it on a number of sights and read blog from OSU insiders.
I think I'll wait until I hear the details before I try to make some kind of moral equivalence argument with what Sparty did in Michigan's tunnel.I'd much rather discuss footbal but C'mon knock off the sanctimonius smack - 3 fights in a year there and one common denominator - Michigan mixing it up with opponents. You obviously didn't see the video with Greene and his helmet in his hand M***** F****** Spartans right up to their locker room door. Then the video goes off and mysteriously comes back on when the Spartans are retaliating. Gemon Green was assaulted so badly he played the next week. Michigan threatening libel the whole time their Administration knew about
I keep hearing how there's a healthy contingent of those involved in how this 12 team comes together that are going to work hard to kill off any 'home games'. that ain't cool but I can see how that will happen, no different than Pac scrapping a home ccg.why in the hell would they discourage attendance?
Orange Bowl. Versus ACC champThis.
Michigan should win handily. My hope is that no more injuries are sustained. And I have a sliver of hope Corum makes it back for the bowl game.depends on what kind of knee surgery it is. like if it's a mensiscus surgery pretty sure he could be back in 4-6 weeks. there has been no word on what the knee surgery is.
Go Blue!
depends on what kind of knee surgery it is. like if it's a mensiscus surgery pretty sure he could be back in 4-6 weeks. there has been no word on what the knee surgery is.Doubt the kid would risk it heading for the League and a big payday
Doubt the kid would risk it heading for the League and a big paydayyeah good point. he really doesn't have another reason to risk injury again and play even if he can. he's off to the nfl draft.
The demand for 2022 Big Ten Championship Game tickets is higher than all years but one, per Vivid Seats:that is actually very surprising to me. I get last year, it was Michigan's first time making Indy. But this is year 2 in a row and it's not a "sexy" matchup with Purdue. If it was like a 10-11 win Wisconsin or Nebraska, could see that....but yeah this just a little odd. Wouldn't expect that.
1) The 2021 title game (Michigan vs Iowa)
2) The 2022 title game (Michigan vs Purdue)
Michigan fans travel well!
and he's really not hurting the team with a more than adequate backupstill would love to have Blake. He keeps the chains moving. Edwards is a FREAK though. He's a future 1st rd pick.

As good a college back as he is, he's even better built for the NFL. He's a better pass catching Alvin Kamara, or a bigger Darren Sprolesthat's a great comp- Kamara. Except he might be bigger, stronger, and even faster.
#2 Michigan Wolverines (9-0, 12-0) vs. Purdue Boilermakers (6-3, 8-4) |
8:00 - Indianapolis, IN - FOX |
Michigan is almost certainly in the College Football Playoff with a loss. Who would jump them? Ohio State? No shot. But, Michigan would certainly prefer to postpone playing Georgia as long as possible. Georgia looked pretty flat in a similar situation in the SEC Championship last year, but they didn't have the incentive of avoiding an opponent. Purdue is obviously not a factor in the Playoff hunt, but for a good number of schools, a Big Ten title and a Rose Bowl still means a whole lot. Michigan's offense certainly put up plenty of points last week, but is that the most repeatable format? Michigan marched down the field in their first drive against Illinois, and then failed to score another touchdown. 11 of Michigan's 14 drives were 3 plays or less. 4 of those "drives" were touchdowns, 1 missed field goal, and 6 punts. Obviously, if Purdue gives up 4 70+ yard touchdown plays, it's going to get ugly. The question is what can Michigan's offense generate if it doesn't get those kinds of explosive plays. I don't think it's a coincidence that has been simultaneous with Blake Corum's injury. Against Illinois, Michigan was also without Donovan Edwards, and it was clear the dropoff to #3 and #4 was stark. Donovan Edwards showed why he is such a freak, running for 216 yards, on 9.8 ypc, and 2 touchdowns. 160 yards and both touchdowns came on 2 carries in the 4th quarter. Prior to those carries, he had 56 rushing yards on 2.8 ypc. The overall numbers look good, and he's a better pass catcher the Corum, but the Wolverines' offense will look a lot smoother if those yards are a little bit more evenly distributed. Purdue salvaged their conference title hopes by Aidan O'Connell having a great three week run to finish the season. He threw 1 touchdown and 5 interceptions in back to back losses to Iowa and Wisconsin a month ago. In the three games since he has thrown 7 touchdowns and just 1 interception. Purdue goes as O'Connell goes. They are 6-1 when he has a passer rating over 120. 2-3 when he doesn't. Purdue has a well-earned moniker as the Spoilermakers, earning 9 wins as an unranked team over a top 2 team, in the history of the AP Poll. No other school has more than 5. While big upsets are part of college football, it's become clear in this era, that it tends to not be the case in CCGs or the CFP, when focus is at 100% |
