We'll start in the East as usual because the East is simple. The Ohio State/Michigan winner will be the outright B1G-E Champion.
We have a bit more clarity:
- If Iowa wins they go to Indy. If Iowa loses that opens the door for:
- Purdue goes if they win and Iowa loses.
If Iowa (vs UNL) and Purdue (at IU) both lose they'll tie for the title at 5-4. Additionally, the MN/UW winner would join that tie as would Illinois if they win (at NU).
So there are a slew of potential 5-4 ties for the B1G-W title:
- IA, PU, UW
- IA, PU, UW, IL
- IA, PU, MN
- IA, PU, MN, IL
HH2H results:
- Iowa: Beat PU, UW, MN, lost to IL.
- Purdue: Beat IL, MN, lost to IA, UW
- Wisconsin: Beat PU, lost to IA, IL.
- Illinois: Beat IA, UW, MN, lost to PU.
- Minnesota: lost to all.
Minnesota is out because they lose all ties.
The tiebreaker winners for the above ties are:
- Iowa wins because they beat the other two.
- Illinois wins. IA and IL win H2H2H2H tiebreaker (both 2-1) and Illinois Beat IA
- Iowa wins because they beat the other two.
- Illinois wins: Minnesota is eliminated by H2H2H2H. The other three move to divisional record where Illinois is 5-1.
Thus Iowa, Purdue, and Illinois are the only teams still in the running. The Minnesota/Wisconsin winner could tie for the title but they can't win the tie and go to Indy.

kind of crazy to me that Iowa will probably win the West despite having maybe the worst offense in the history of the modern B1G.
-
only because the West is the worst it's ever been
not a single decent team

true. but it makes it easier for Kirk to keep his son around when they are winning the West in back to back years.
-
watching USC/UCLA, I'm not sure either are any better than Iowa

Worse than the two years where every team finished behind Northwestern?
-
yup, no question
-
3 decent teams in the East
3 of 14 - not bad
-

I think USC and UCLA would both probably beat Iowa as they at least can score points. Iowa can't score points.
-
well, Iowa State beat Iowa and they are 1-7 in the Big 12 - dead last
the Big Ten West is worse than the bottom of the Big 12

the 2022 Big Ten West might be the worst division in the history of P5 football. It's certainly in the discussion imo.
-
I would not have hurt my feelings if Illinois had won today because I do not want to watch a rematch of Iowa v. Ohio State or Michigan.
-
no one wants that
but, I don't think even Illinois or Purdue want to matchup with Ohio St/Michigan
-
So if Iowa beats Neb on Black Friday, Iowa wins the west. But if Iowa loses, It sets up a wild Saturday.
I don't see the game times listed for the Big Ten West games on Saturday. Do you think they will set it up so that Pur-Ind, NW-ILL and Minn-Wisc are all at the same time?
-
TV wonks determine times
-
The TV announcers had a good line after the Iowa-Minn game.
It's not how the West was won, it's how the West was lost!
I have never seen a group of 7 teams try so hard to give away a divisional championship.

The TV times have been announced. As expected, the Pur-Ind, Minn-Wisc and NW-ILL games all will start at 2:30 CST.
-
They didn't want to put any of those up against UM-OSU because then nobody would watch THE GAME.
-
It's difficult to envision Iowa losing to Nebraska on Black Friday.

Wrong thread Badger this is for programs in a divisional race

"Not so fast, my friend!"

Hey the Badgers can still get a trophy if they tie for first place. They just can't win the tiebreaker that's all.
-
It is difficult to envision how Iowa could win 8-games generating a pittance of offense.
-
"Defense wins championships"
-
Iowa's offense will come alive vs the pitiful Husker defense
and Brian Ferentz will add a few more seasons to his contract
-
Oh man would that be rich, that's the kinda crap that happens in congress

They would not accept a trophy. They'd just give it PJ Barnum.

I am starting to worry about the potential attendance at this year's Big Ten CCG. Unless Putdue sneaks in after an Iowa loss, I can't see any fan base getting excited about the game. Nobody expects a close game and most fans might be more interested in the team's bowl game coming later, especially the team that knows it will be in the playoffs.
I guess for Iowa fans this may be their last chance to see Iowa play in a ccg before the Big Ten does away with divisions, although I guess the West will be around one more year in 2023. And there is that small chance of an upset.
But many fans may decide just to stay home.
-
another good reason for the officiating crew to give the Huskers a few things to be thankful for on Black Friday
-
Update now that Iowa lost:
Purdue controls their own destiny. They go to Indy as outright Champions if the beat Indiana.
If Purdue loses they WILL tie for the B1G-W title but they CANNOT win any potential tie so they are out.
If Purdue loses then Illinois controls their own destiny. They win either four-way tie (IA, PU, IL and either UW or MN).
If Purdue and Illinois both lose, Iowa goes to Indy.
-
What a gaggle of bumbling twats, oops I mean they cannibalize each other
-
Its been said before but I will state it again.
It's not how the West was won, it's how the West was lost. Every team in the West has tried to throw away this division title this year. Does nobody want it? Hopefully Purdue steps up.

I think you are exactly correct. M/tOSU fans aren't going to be overly excited about a game in which their team will be a ~20 point favorite. Also, even if the tOSU/M winner does get upset, they'll make the playoffs anyway.
I can't imagine PU, IA, or IL fans being all that excited either other than the novelty factor for PU or IL.
-
PU at least has close proximity

And who knows when Purdue will get a chance again to play in the CCG. It could be another 10-20 years before they get back.
-
I think Illinois with their defense would give the East winner the best game
but, I don't think their fans will travel as well as the Boilers
