Ugh. Noon on ESecPN.

Well, we'll get to find out who gets to be Big Red for another year, I guess. Not much intrigue here, other than UW trying to get eligible for a bowl game. Need those practices for sure, as the roster needs to change for next season.

Nebraska completes its 2022 home season on Saturday when the Huskers square off against Big Ten
West opponent Wisconsin at Memorial Stadium. The matchup is set to kick off shortly after 11 a.m. CT,
with ESPN providing the television coverage.
Saturday will also mark Senior Day activities at Memorial Stadium. Nebraska will be looking for its first
win against the Badgers since a victory at Memorial Stadium in 2012. Wisconsin has won the past eight
meetings since that game including a seven-point victory last year in Madison.
The Huskers stand at 3-7 overall and 2-5 in Big Ten Conference play following a 34-3 loss at No. 3
Michigan on Saturday afternoon. The Nebraska defense held its own for much of the game against the
Wolverines, limiting Michigan to 17 points until the final minute of the third quarter before the Wolverines
put the game away with points on their final three drives.
Wisconsin comes to Lincoln with a 5-5 overall record and a 3-4 mark in Big Ten Conference play. The
Badgers are coming off a 24-10 loss at Iowa on Saturday. Despite the loss, Wisconsin's defense dominated
the contest, limiting the Hawkeyes to just 146 total yards and 52 rushing yards.
Like Nebraska, Wisconsin is being led by an interim head coach as former Badger All-American Jim
Leonhard took over the program in mid-October. He has guided Wisconsin to three wins in five Big Ten
Conference games. Wisconsin relies on a stout defense that is allowing 307.8 yards per game and just
over 100 rushing yards per contest. On offense, the Badgers again have a strong run game, averaging
170.1 yards per contest on the ground.

SERIES HISTORY: NEBRASKA VS. WISCONSIN
Saturday's meeting between Nebraska and Wisconsin will be the 16th all-time between the two
schools, and the 11th as members of the Big Ten Conference. Wisconsin has won eight straight in
the series and dominated since joining the Big Ten, winning nine of 10 matchups with the Huskers.
• Nebraska played its first-ever conference game as a member of the Big Ten at Camp Randall
Stadium on Oct. 1, 2011.
• The schools met twice in 2012, with Nebraska posting its most recent victory over the Badgers in
Lincoln. Wisconsin won the rematch in the 2012 Big Ten Championship game in Indianapolis later
that season.
• This season's matchup marks just the third time in 16 meetings that neither team has been ranked.
Nebraska was ranked in eight straight meetings spanning from 1965 to 2014. Wisconsin has been
ranked in seven of the matchups, including five straight prior to this season.
• The schools met five times before Nebraska joined the Big Ten, including four games between
1965 and 1974.

My best approximation is that Wisconsin is thoroughly mediocre. Strong defense, inconsistent (at best) offense. Nebraska seems pretty similar. They have surprisingly few common opponents so far for teams in the same division, but even those results aren't especially revealing. Wisconsin probably has the better defense, and their offenses feel about equally bad. I think Wisconsin feels a little closer to decent than Nebraska, if more on the basis of habit than anything else. So I'm seeing Wisconsin reaching bowl eligibility on this one, setting up a rare matchup with Minnesota in which the only thing on the line is pride between two thoroughly mediocre teams.

Some upper levels programs appear to have recovered faster than perhaps expected, LSU and USC and Tennessee come to mind, and a few went the other way.  Wisconsin doesn't seem to be quite that far down.  To me.

Notre Dame and FSU are both ranked at 7-3.

Brian Kelly is a great coach. Lousy recruiter. He won't have that problem at LSU where he won't have to leave his back yard to find studs. ND recruiting actually has gone up another level with Freeman at the helm, who seems to be an ace recruiter but not quite the X's and O's game day guy Kelly is.

To the surprise of no one, the Nebraska football team is opening this week as a heavy underdog to Wisconsin. While that might not be a shock by any means, the degree to which they are the dogs for a home game is another reason to give people a bit of pause.

According to FanDuel, the Huskers have opened up the week as 12.5-point underdogs to the Badgers. The game is being played in Memorial Stadium. On Senior Day. If it were being played in Madison, it’s safe to assume Wiscy might be looking at a 20+ line.

I don't think he is being judged that way.

I think it's more about the response of the players, which has been great, and about his vision for the program.

Wisconsin Badgers (3-4, 5-5) at Nebraska Cornhuskers (2-5, 3-7)
NOON - Lincoln, NE - ESPN
Nebraska's offense has shown flashes at points this season, but none of those moments occurred with Casey Thompson out injured.  The Huskers scored 37 against Purdue, and then had scored twice in the first 10 minutes against Illinois, which was pretty good based on how Illinois defense was playing at the time.  Then Thompson went down, and in 2.5 games without their starting quarterback, Nebraska has been outscored 74-16, with their lone touchdown coming on the opening drive against Minnesota.  Chubba Purdy has been outright bad in his absence, but if Mickey Joseph had a better option, I'm sure he would use it.  And now Purdy is out with a high ankle sprain, after starting both games with Thompson hurt.  So Thompson is taking practice reps, but if he can't go, it's Logan Smothers, who couldn't beat out Purdy, or walk on Jarrett Synek who saw his first ever college action late in the blowout loss in Ann Arbor.  While Graham Mertz's performances have been continuously critiqued, the other issue has been the pass protection is well below the normal Wisconsin standard.  Northwestern didn't get to the quarterback at all, but over their other 5 games since October 1, Wisconsin has allowed 5 sacks to Illinois, 3 to Michigan State, 2 to Purdue, 3 to Maryland, and 4 to Iowa.  The Badgers rank #105 in the FBS is sack rate, and #117 in sack rate on standard downs.  That's their biggest problem, but the Badgers' line ranks in the bottom third of the FBS in 7 of the 9 metrics tracked by Football Outsiders, and only rank in the top third in one, which is their run blocking on passing downs.  Fortunately for Wisconsin, the Nebraska defense is giving up 4.6 ypc and 191 rushing ypg, both 2nd worst in the Big Ten.  This might look like a classic Wisconsin game, where they throw it 14 times, because that's all they have to.
WISCONSIN 29, NEBRASKA 17

Interim head coach Mickey Joseph said during his short update with media on Thursday that Thompson threw the ball well in practice and is on track to return barring any unforeseen recurrence with his nerve injury. Joseph said the last three practices are enough to convince him Thompson’s ready. That confidence isn’t likely to change as long as Thompson continues to feel good.

“Unless he wakes up tomorrow and says ‘My whole elbow is numb,'” Joseph said, “OK? He’s going to play.”

when Memorial Stadium's 100th season wraps up on Saturday, Nebraska football's home sellout streak will still be chugging along at 60-plus years and 389 games.

The Huskers' home finale against Wisconsin was listed as sold out early Thursday afternoon on the Nebraska Athletics ticket site. Just an hour earlier, about 70 seats remained unsold, so it appears several dozen tickets were purchased in bulk to secure sellout status.

Three weeks ago, it seemed a Wisconsin-Nebraska sellout was a lock with just 50 tickets unsold. Then things got a little weird, probably due to returned tickets from the Badgers' allotment. From 50, the number of available seats shot up to nearly 100, then shrank gradually to under 30, then popped back up to 100 just two days ago.

Exploiting Wisconsin's weakness

Wisconsin’s defense has a weakness — it gives up too many deep passes. Thirty-two times this season, opponents have completed a pass of 20 yards or longer against the Badgers — 12 of them have been for 30-or-more yards. If quarterback Casey Thompson is good to go, he can fire to Trey Palmer and Marcus Washington.

The lines, courtesy of BetMGM
Point spread: Wisconsin -13.5 at -110, Nebraska at +13.5 at -110
Money line: Wisconsin -550 / Nebraska +400
Over-under: O 40.5 at -110 / U 40.5 at -110

Advice and Prediction
It’s extremely hard to bet in favor of the Huskers moneyline at this point, and even more so with uncertainty about the health of their quarterbacks. However, this Wisconsin team is not the same Wisconsin that most Big Ten fans are used to and can lose any game. The Badgers moneyline won’t net any great returns so if you’re confident enough in Nebraska’s QB’s who haven’t proven themselves yet, it would be a welcome surprise. That’s a humongous “if” though. Betting Nebraska to cover the spread may be the wisest bet, as the Huskers haven’t lost to a non-ranked opponent by more than one score this year. Again, it requires trust in their offense but the trend favors Nebraska to cover. The under is also a good option as well, as cold weathers begins to become a factor and gametime temperature will be around 30 degrees. The Huskers offense has looked anemic with anybody not named Casey Thompson at quarterback, thus adding to the appeal.

Prediction: Wisconsin 24, Nebraska 16

Been trying to figure why the Badgers running game isn't as explosive as it usually is.  Think it comes down to the offense line not continuing blocking till the whistle blows.  Seems like they make their run block and then quit.  Prior years they would continue to be pushing the defensive players another yard or two until the play has stopped.

They just seem soft. All of these 4-5* kids are really not all that good. Maybe go back to just getting those monster kids from Door County or something.

and it's obviously not the worst Badger team ever

but, it's the worst Husker team since 1957

firing the head coach mid-season doesn't help

Wisconsin goes to a bowl, which means more practices and game experience for next season.

They were going anyway. #2 APR rank in the conference (NU). They would have gotten in at 5-7.
