Title: SOC 2022-11-12: The Stretch
Post by: 847badgerfan on November 12, 2022, 07:13:11 AM
We are winding down the season, and for some teams it's just getting started.

Can Bert get his team back on track? Can Brohm? Now is the time, and I will be watching.

The only other compelling game is Wisconsin at Iowa. The O/U is 35. Whatcha got?

Ribeyes and baked taters are on the docket.

Heading over to Oxford here in a moment on this unseasonably cold day.  I'm sure us Yankees will have a smirk or two over that today as we soak in the Grove.   Might not reach 50 today.

Compelling game as we see a Bama team with two losses before Thanksgiving.  Ole Miss still a sizable dog.

Saban is 2-4 when I'm in the building to watch his teams play.

winding down the season and not much for matchups

3 eleven AM games and nothing prime time - Oh well

Two games of interest to me....... rooting for Bert this morning vs the Boilers  and rooting for no TDs scored in Kinnick

I'd like to see Bert in Lincoln. I think he could win there.
I'd like to see Brian Ferentz out of a job.  It's ugly in Iowa City.

Beautiful fall day here, sunny, no wind, high of 30.  Golf course is closed.

Planning to venture out for a Schooner of beer and a Charlie Boy sammich at the local pub.  The only problem is that particular pub is a Hawkeye hang out.  They won't appreciate my RED.

Missed my usual Thursday run because of rain and decided to try for 7 miles today without adequate sleep. Manage to finish, also running alongside some marathoners for a minute, I think I might’ve done something to both my ankles.

Should be heading to the badger bar to meet up with some alums. Trying to decide if I should try to split attention for a side hustle, or just put it off and have a slightly less efficient weekend.

Gotta be tough to be a Gopher fan.

Upper 20s and snow squalls today for tailgating down at the Flats. French toast, spicy bean soup, cornbread, and fried eggs is on the docket today. And a fair amount of 80 proof antifreeze.

And that Charlie Boy sammich looks delicious.

many have tried to copy it with varying degrees of success.  No one has ever nailed it.

Ole miss looks inspired early, Bama does not.

Alabama continuing to not look like Alabama as this season goes on. Down but with momentum after a TD cut Ole Miss’ lead to 10-7, Bama suffers a fumble at midfield, followed by a pass interference penalty. The Ole Miss WRs are burning Bama’s corners, scoring a TD to go up 17-7 with 5 min left in the 2nd Q.

Bama’s loss to LSU last week prompted a rush of articles questioning whether we’re witnessing the sudden decline of Nick Saban’s tenure? What’s to blame? I blame the Coordinators, especially Golding, the DC, who for some reason Saban is loyal to despite hiring him with little experience and despite his offseason DUI.

edit: anyone wondering how Bama’s defenses are worse off under Golding - their defense is undisciplined, giving up penalties you never saw under other coordinators, but also giving up a ton through the air.

Gophers lead 14 3 at the break. All of NU's yardage has been from 3 plays. Mo went to the locker room early.

Conditions have deteriorated noticeably over the halftime break here at the New Brickhouse. If this game gets out of hand I'll be entertaining arguments for going home early.

I understand why UT put that last score on mizzou... but I still don't like it.

Gotta say, I truly believe NIL is setting the CFB giants up for failure.  Drama on the field, and in the locker room... especially in this era of changeover where a significant player isn't making a penny while some prima Donna who hasn't proven himself yet is making bank... thats gotta be hell on a team's chemistry.... and it appears some schools are managing it well while others are not.. aTm not- USCw is... Bama not- UT is... ect...

Also 4 points from being undefeated, so.......that's a fun game to play.
.
Bama's sin this year is not playing like an all-time great team.  Tsk tsk, I guess.
Meh. Bama has been pretty mid all year. They have NOT been the Bama of old- their defense is bad, their OL is bad, they struggle to impose their will on the ground game, their WRs are mid, they don't dominate the LOS on either side of the ball like they did in the past- and they have not been anywhere near the top echelon teams like UGA, tOSU, or MICH in terms of consistency and just bludgeoning opposing teams to death. I think Bama has the best Offensive player in the entire nation in Bryce Young and they have one of the most explosive playmakers in Gibbs, and they have maybe the best Defensive player in the entire nation in Will Anderson- but other than that- that team is MID af. And while Gibbs is explosive as all hell he isn't a tough runner or chain mover- he's not the type of mutant freak of nature backs they used to roll off the assembly line.

Bama is just a flawed team. They would honestly probably be a 6 win team without Bryce Young. I don't think there is one team in the nation more dependent on one player than Bama is on Bryce Young.

well he looked great early in the season before that injury. I saw him live in person in their season opener. Kid is impressive looking on the hoof and he's got a big time arm. And he really should be a true freshman right now- he reclassified from 2022 to 2021 last year to go to Ohio State early and take that fat NIL deal. Kid was suppose to be a senior in high school last year. He's still young with plenty of time to grow up.

Michigan is a boring ass team to watch- convinced their WRs suck ass. They'll be LEGIT if they can ever click on their down field passing game. Sh&t in one hand, wish in the other- see what happens first. It's frustating af to watch, but my god do they have a hell of an OL, talented RB's, a hell of a defensive front, and an awesome young defensive Co-ordinator who is a magician at making defensive adjustments. Oh and true frosh 5* Will Johnson is going to be a 1st round CB before he leaves- kid is flashing seriously these past two games.

Out in Eugene, Washington went 98 yards only to throw an interception on the Oregon 1. This is a corker of a game.

Yes.  This game is extremely entertaining.

Oregon playing some FLECK ball right now. They have had the ball for the first 10 minutes of the 4th quarter, and they are on the Washington 10.

Oregon promptly showed that they couldn't handle prosperity. The long drive stalled on the 10, they sent the kickoff out of bounds, and Washington scores on their 3rd play with a beauty of a tiptoe down the sidelines.

34 all, buckle up.

Washington should have left Oregon a lot less than 54 seconds. Poor time management on their last series.

Freakin' Zack Charbonny having a game and AZ/UCLA is Prime PAC after Dark.Sorry M fans but he was the best RB on their roster.Dude is solid follows blocks and hits the seems quick.Mike Wiley doing a good job toting the rock/receiving for the Wildcats. 28-24 with just under 7 to play in the 4th

EDIT: WildCats just get a TD on a 17 yd pass to McMillan they're up 31-28

Nah. Corum is better, and Donovan Edwards who has yet to start will be the best of them all.

I do agree Zach is probably better than Haskins. Haskins was a tough ass runner but had like no speed. Charbonnet isn’t a burner but he’s much faster than Haskins who was slowwwwww.

B1G may well get two teams from the East as well, TCU and USC drop a game- might wind up being 2 teams from the SEC and B1G.

hot take of the week: Jesse Minter is a better DC than Mike McDonald, who he replaced. Both come from the Ravens 3-4 system, they run the same defense- but Minter seems to have a touch at making half-time adjustments that is other worldly.

Michigan in the 2nd halves of it's last 5 games? 117-3. In the final 10 quarters, Jesse Minter's defense has given up 3 points to Penn State, that's it.
