The game is on the Big Ten Network at 7:30 PM EDT Saturday. Michigan is favored by around 25 points. Lots of stuff for Michigan to work on like the passing game and scoring TDs when in the red zone.

That's way too many carries. Gonna burn the kid out.

he's built like a brick shit house, but I agree. It's too much. Especially when you have a more than capable Donovan Edwards right behind him.
My hope is they are able to give him a lot of rest the next two games vs Rutgers and Nebraska.

they will be able

He's a great back too. Use him, or risk Corum not at 100% for OSU.

well, my hope is they can work on the vertical passing game and get McCarthy a lot more reps doing that and give Edwards majority of the carries and give Corum a rest these next two games before ramping it up in for the final stretch of Illinois at home and then on the road at Ohio State.

Rutgers to start red shirt freshman QB Gavin Wimsatt.

rivalry week! it's on!

the final stretch of Illinois at home and then on the road at Ohio State.
If they beat tOSU then the final stretch is most likely Illinois/tOSU/Illinois

Does Rutger have much of a shot here? I mean 5%? Probably not that high, unless UM turns the ball over 4-5 times, and even then ...

I think Michigan wins this handily. Rutgers has been switching between three mediocre QBs behind five new offensive linemen.

Mel Kiper debuts Michigan EDGE Mike Morris at #22 overall on his big board and a 1st rd pick in the upcoming NFL draft. I always kind of thought he reminded me of a more athletic Chris Wormley- who was a damn good player and a 2nd or 3rd rd pick I think.

if you're OSU or MICH who do you root for this weekend?
Think you have to root for LSU to beat BAMA, give them a second loss and eliminate BAMA from playoff. Have to root for ND to knock off Clemson and eliminate them from contention, don't think Clemson gets in unless they're undefeated. And then Tennessee over Georgia. IF Tennessee beats Georgia, that really hurts Georgia's resume. Think there's an actual scenario if things fall into place that the B1G can get two teams in.
-
Since September Michigan has only thrown one pass over 30 yards including YAC.

They haven't really attempted to open the passing game up down the field, nor have they actually needed to. They've been able to suffocate and bludgeon teams to death with their OL and run game and then use their front 7 on defense to smother.
Harbaugh wants to play the style of football that used to be popular back when George Washington was President. Dudes offensive philosophy is stone age. I'm convinced he's a retard when it comes to the passing game. It's honestly kinda weird af that a former high level QB hates the passing game. But that's Harbaugh in a nutshell: a fkn booger eating WEIRDO.

I agree that this is not impossible although not all that likely either.
I think we have to understand that a 1-loss non-Champion SEC team is almost certainly getting in ahead of a 1-loss non-Champion B1G team so anything that eliminates potential 1-loss non-Champion SEC teams helps.
In theory the SEC could produce two one-loss non-Champions:
- UGA/TN winner wins out until SECCG, loses SECCG, finishes 12-1
- UGA/TN loser wins out, finishes 11-1
I actually don't think LSU/Bama matters much because Bama either wins the SECCG and is in or doesn't and is out.
-
it matters to LSU

it matters to LSU
Yeah, I meant to B1G teams. Realistically that is only the tOSU/M loser because:
- Illinois cannot possibly make it as a 2-loss non-Champion so their only path is to win the B1GCG. In theory they might make it as an 11-2 B1G Champion and they would definitely be in as a 12-1 B1G Champion.
- The tOSU/M winner is definitely in if they win the B1GCG and has a decent shot even with a B1GCG loss.
- The most likely (and probably only plausible) B1G "bubble team" is an 11-1 tOSU/M loser. They aren't obviously in like a 13-0 or 12-1 Champion nor obviously out like a 2-loss non-Champion.
-
A 2 loss LSU as SEC Champion would make the CFP I think. That might well knock out a 11-1/12-1 SEC team, though I suppose it's possible the 12-1 CG loser might make it. Is there precedent for that?

Most direct precedent is 11-2 B1G Champion Penn State missing while 11-1 tOSU (that they beat H2H) went.
So let's say:
- LSU wins out, finishes 11-2 SEC Champ.
- UT loses to UGA, otherwise wins out, finishes 11-1.
- UGA wins out to SECCG where they lose to LSU, finishes 12-1.
Who goes?
I think MoV would be a factor. Part of PSU's problem was that they got drilled by Michigan.
-
I think the most recent precedent is last year.

what team with 2 loss has ever made a CFP?
LSU with 2 losses- one in which they got DRILLED at home by Tennessee and another loss to pretty damn sorry FSU team ain't making the CFP, imo.

JJ McCarthy on the season now....
1,615 passing yards, 71% completion, 12 TD's vs 2 INT's. Still has 3 regular season games to go.
Cade last year was 2,576 passing yards, 65% completion, 15 TD's vs 6 INT's - started in 14 games to accumulate these stats. JJ has nearly matched him in TD passes and he's started 6 less games.
Blake Corum is at 199 carries, 1189 rushing yards (6 YPC), and 16 TD's on the season now with 3 regular season games to go. Donovan Edwards is at 68 carries, 458 rushing yards (6.7 YPC), and 4 rushing TD's and 14 catches for 179 receiving yards, and 2 TD's on the season with 3 regular season games to go.

I think its safe to say Michigan’s defense bailed the team out in this game.

Here is what UM did:
they SMOKED a conference opponent on the road! Period.

regardless, I think he's still played pretty well for a young first time starting QB. Comparing his raw #'s to Cade's a year ago...he's been better. He's also been better just going by the eye test.

Michigan in the 2nd half of their last 4 games? 100-3.
Indiana: 21-0
Penn State: 25-3
Michigan State: 16-0
Rutgers: 38-0

1st time,PFFFT! he rotated last season and has had the meat of the order this one.Sooner or later he might have to go deeper more often vs stiffer competition.....on the road ;D.

he didn't rotate last season, they brought him off the bench and sprinkled him in a few plays here and there. that's hardly starting or rotating. he'd get a handful of snaps a game if that.
he will have to start connecting on the deep balls. it's been very frustrating to see- they've been close many times but just off by a hair. you'd think eventually that would start to click.
