Well, this is the time of year where we find out who is for real and who was pretending.  Michigan and PSU passed their tests the last 2 weeks, not looking great but looking good enough.  While Minn and Ind failed their tests yesterday.  Wisc and MSU failled miserably 2 weeks in a row.

The west looks completely wide open with 6 teams tied for first at 1-1 and Wisc all alone in last place at 0-2.  This could be the first time somebody wins a Big Ten division with 3 or more losses.  Could Purdue or ILL be the new favorite to pull it out?

1. Ohio State should be AP poll #1 as well.  The Buckeyes have not looked vulnerable this year unlike Alabama and Georgia.  The fact that most of the #1 votes will go to the two SEC teams kind of pisses me off.  Yes, Ohio State still sucks irregardless of their ranking.
2. Michigan
3. Penn State
4. Purdue
5. Maryland
6. Illinois
7. Minnesota
8. Iowa
9. Wisconsin
10. Michigan State
11. Nebraska
12. Indiana
13. Northwestern
14. Rutgers

1. OSU -  blowing out Wisc not looking so impressive now,  but OSU still looking like the complete team
2.  Mich -  passed another test by winning in Iowa City.  Blake Corum is looking like the real deal.  Great at finding holes in the lines that most backs would not.
3.  PSU -  not looking great but they are winning.
4.  MD - dominates MSU and only loss is @ Mich by 7.
5.  Purdue -  finding ways to win without the passing game.  Purdue or ILL could be the new favorite to win the West
6.  ILL - dominates Wisc and only loss is by 3 @Ind.
7.  Minn - was looking pretty good until yesterday
8.  Iowa -   Iowa offense is just not good enough to win Iowa any games.
9.  MSU - deserves to be lower after 2 bad losses in a row
10.  Wisc - see above.
11.  Rutgers -  I guess it's safe to say Rutgers is not one of the Big Ten's better teams.
12.  Neb -  finally finishes a game that is close in 4Q.  Maybe there is hope yet.
13.  Ind -  losing to Neb does not look good on the old resume but they did beat ILL earlier.
14.  NW - showing life against PSU.  Maybe there is hope yet

1)tOSU - both RU scores came from Buckeye turnovers deep in it's own territory.Solid performance from Miyan Williams 189 yds & 5 TDs
2)Meechigan - yeoman like performance grinding out scores in 4 of the first 5 possessions and winning in Kinnick
3)PSU 17-7 meh win at home, going to have to ratchet it up heading into AA
4)Illinois - a stranger to these heights and as revolting as i find him Bert has the Illini back in the mix that they have not seen in quite a while
5)Terps ahead of Gophs as IMHO a more impressive one loss
6)Minnesota,PJ,take your oar and stick it west prolly coming down to them and the Illini
7)Boilers 3-2 but both losses were close
8)Coin flip between them and no 9
9)Hoosiers beat Illinois but lost to Huskers hmm
10) RU 3-2
11)MSU
12) UW
13) UNL
14) NU

1) Ohio State - Can win many different ways.
2) Michigan - Totally controlled the game.
3) Penn State - Lucky to have an off week against the worst opponent.
4) Maryland - A win in October?
5) Illinois - Out-Wisconsing Wisconsin.  A throwback team that no one wants to play.
6) Purdue - Defense is quietly pretty decent.
7) Minnesota - Losing Mo hurt them a lot.  Don't want to overreact to 1 game.
8) Iowa - Some tough calls went against them in key spots.  Showed a little bit of offensive spark, but their DL got dominated.
9) Wisconsin - Probably too high, but I respect the program too much to drop them further right now.
10) Michigan State - Desperately in need of a get right game.
11) Nebraska - This is what I've been expecting them to look like.
12) Indiana - Too many injuries and luck ran out
13) Rutgers - Offense is so anemic.  Need crazy breaks to have a chance.
14) Northwestern - 4 takeaways not enough to steal a win over PSU.

for Michigan- feel like you can pretty much wash the OOC slate - it was garbage - but they did what the #4 ranked team is suppose to do to cupcakes- thrash them- which is more than can be said for Georgia for example- who really struggled vs a bad MAC team and one of the 2 or 3 worst SEC teams in Mizzou the past two weeks.

Michigan's D had it's first real test vs a good Maryland offense that has one of the best offenses in the B1G- Tua Jr is the 2nd best QB that unit will face all year behind CJ Stroud- and Maryland has a veteran OL unit which returned all 5 starters from a year ago, pretty solid RB's, and their WR's are very good- Rakim Jarrett was an OMG FIVE STARZ, Jacob Copeland was a top 100 player overall recruit, and Jeshaun Jones is a speedster out of the state of Florida.

Michigan's O- and JJ McCarthy in particular- had their first real test in his first ever road start- in Kinnick- a place that is a motherf**ker to play in- and against a really good, sound fundamental defense that makes you pay when you make mistakes. Thought the OL and RB's played great and JJ didn't try any of that hero ball crap and he didn't force any throws- he played a clean game- and that's exactly what he needed to do.

Thought they passed both those tests pretty well. They aren't where they need to be- not even close- have a lot of stuff to work on and clean up- but they get to go on the road vs Indiana this week and try to work out more kinks and fine tune somethings before they get their biggest test to date when Penn State comes into Ann Arbor the 15th. IF they handle their business at home vs a really good Penn State squad the 15th there's a very high chance they roll into Columbus 11-0 in a showdown vs Ohio State that will be for all the marbles.

  • Ohio State - I don't know about everyone esle, but Stroud seemed to be off this past Saturday. He looked uncomfortable in the pocket and seemed as though he was rushing his throws. He threw some of the worst passes I've seen him throw. But the running game took over with T. Henderson and allowing M. Williams to show what he can do.
  • Michigan - Good win in a tough environment. Iowa has a stout Defense, but cannot hold up all game long without the offense contributing. Mich showed that they are one of the B1G elete teams.
  • Penn State - I didn't get to see this game, but a 10 point win against the worst team in the B1G shows some concerns. Perhaps it was just an off day for Penn State. We'll see how the season plays out.
  • Maryland - I can't think of a team below that I would put ahead of them right now. Good offense and the defense is serviceable.
  • Purdue - This team could challenge for the West title. Would this game have been different with Mo playing for Minn?
  • Minnesota - See above.
  • Illinois - Is Bert the answer for the Illini? So far, so good.
  • Iowa - They need to find an offense.
  • Wisconsin - Did tOSU beat them twice?
  • Michigan State - Things only get harder this week.
  • Nebraska - Good win at home.
  • Indiana - Too many injuries.
  • Rutgers - They are finding their level in the conference.
  • Northwestern - Played a competitive game against a good team.

Yes- Stroud was only 13/22 for 58% completion rate. That’s by far his worst ever.

And he threw that one deep pick which was so unlike him. He forced a throw into double coverage. He actually looked human.

I wouldn’t worry too much though.  Even the best QBs have off days. They still put up 49 in 3 Quarters.

And if you were counting, Rutgers was called for PI on at least 4 Passes- which all were very catchable balls sans the aggressive interference.  Add those in and his completion rate is over 70%.  I honestly think that was an intentional part of Rutgers game plan.  Why not?  If you can’t cover them just prevent them from running their routes.  See how much you can get away with.

I hope you are right. But the week before, he appeared be a little off also. I hope it is not a trend and he gets back to his norms. We'll see.

I completely understood what you meant here. If the situation were reversed I wouldn't really want Michigan to be #1 but at the same time I'd be concerned that the B1G team was not getting the same benefit of the doubt as the SEC teams.

man I find it hilarious when Ohio State fans bag on or worry about CJ Stroud. He's maybe the best QB in all of CFB. Certainly tops in the B1G.

All I have to say is.....

when he's having a good day, he's possibly the most accurate passer in the NCAA

yeah, his ball placement is just next level. that's an NFL QB, for sure. And he hasn't been playing with his #1 target and the best WR in America- JSN- all-season.

I'm trying to make sure I'm not biased in evaluating the top three so here are the 15 opponents they have defeated ranked by current Sagrin ranking:

I think that makes it pretty clear for now, tOSU then M then PSU.
