Torrechiara Castle in Italy
Extensively rebuilt in the mid-15th century from its earlier medieval origins, Torrechiara is considered one of the best-preserved castles in the province of Parma. As the Renaissance was flowering throughout Italy, Torrechiara Castle was being redesigned as a fortress of massive stone towers and parapets bound by a triple wall.
The imposing structure with its fierce façade was certainly meant to evoke fear in any potential enemy. But Torrechiara was also built as a home for Bianca Pellegrini, the beloved mistress of the castle's owner, Pier Maria Rossi. Beyond the battlements and within the heavy castle walls are extensive and well-preserved frescoes celebrating their love. The castle's setting is no less romantic: From some places, visitors here can view both the high towers of the castle, and the high peaks of the Apennine mountain range.

I could not believe this piece of crap on Antique Road Show last week.Honest to GOD you could hang that in any elementary school hallway and it would be tossed out at the end of the grading period.I think they deliberately try to scribble up bad graffiti knowing there is some rich oddball freak out there somewhere that will pony up for it. They estimated it at 400K.I would have put it at the bottom of the Bird Cage

This petroglyph was drawn by a 19th century Indian chief after he had taken his first train ride.

We were in St. Remy a while back and I got talked into visiting van Gogh's mental hospital there, much to my dismay. It was fascinating, and since then I developed an appreciation to him, I even named my minivan after him.

I worked with this weird art school guy at one point. We had a container full of some substance that you could mold like play-doh, but then it would harden like a statue. So what does he do? He forms it into dongs that he adheres to random surfaces throughout the workplace. You just never knew when or where you were going to come across one. The element of surprise was his ally in this effort.
