After keeping Green Bay on its toes, Rodgers finally signs his new deal to re-up where, IMO, he has his best chance at finally reaching another Super Bowl. Green Bay's division is a mess. The offense is loaded across the roster. And the defense has more talent than usual. But all of that only wins the division. Anything more is up to Rogers overcoming his frustrating mental hurdles.

And let's hope one year into his contract Rogers isn't whining about going to other teams. Really sick of QBs signing a long contract because of the money only to look elsewhere while whining about the terms they signed. Russell Wilson, Deshaun Watson, and all the NBA players that similarly act out.

"The total value of the deal is reported to be $150 million over three years, according to several reports, but the structure of the deal reduces his cap hit to $28.5 million in 2022 – down from $46.7 million.

Most of that is due to converting his salary to a roster bonus and adding voidable years at the end of his deal – years he is unlikely to play for the Packers. Which means Green Bay is kicking money down the line in exchange for cap savings in the short term.

NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero reported that if Rodgers retires or moves on after the 2023 season, the team will take on a $68.2 million cap hit for the 2024 season."

Packers trade star WR Devante Adams to the Las Vegas Raiders for the Raiders 1st and 2nd rd picks in the upcoming 2022 draft. Adams was a F/A and Packers are in cap hell. Raiders will be giving Adams a 5-year, $141 million deal.

Rodgers sure has to be happy right now, lol. The memes on twitter are hilarious....

There aren't a lot of good WRs available to use that cap space on.  Who is going to be their #1 WR now?  I guess this means they have to trade with someone else.  We'll just have to see if they already had someone else lined up.  If they just add Landry or OBJ and call it a day, this would be a disaster.  Also I don't like relying on a rookie WR (though it is a good draft for them), when you're in win-now mode.

Chicago Bears trade OLB/DE Khalil Mack to the Los Angeles Chargers for a 2nd and 6th rd picks. Now that is a steal.

Mack could have himself a resurgence with Joey Bosa on the other end of him.

AFC West is going to be a freaking gauntlet. Raiders added Devante Adams. Broncos got Russell Wilson. Chargers just added Khalil Mack. Damn.

Not only that, Adams is one of the best 3 WR's in the NFL right now. It's probably Kupp, Adams, and Tyreek. Not going to be able to replace him with anyone nearly as good. And chances of a rookie being that good are slim.

they don't need him to be the #1 guy, they have Joey Bosa. Mack did have 9 sacks in 2020 and he had 6 sacks in only 7 games (he injured his foot) in 2021. He's still got some juice.

Randy Gregory signs with Denver Broncos. Still under 30, very talented, stays out of trouble that's a really nice pickup.

AFC West is just f**king loading up. That's going to be the toughest division in NFL by far.

Man, the Raiders are stacked at the skill positions going into next season. (Easy to forget Carr and Adams were teammates while at Fresno State.) Adams contract is nuts but because of the choice of targets Carr will have downfield, Adams will be even more open in the Raiders offense.

As far the Packers, though Adams is the best target Rodgers had by far, there are other effective WRs Rodgers has to throw to. The problem is Rodgers wouldn't throw to most of them when the going got tough last year. Even when secondaries honed in on stopping Adams, Rodgers still forced plays to Adams, who, being a Top 3 WR, could make it work. Thus Adams became a crutch Rodgers leaned on. Taking away the one option Rodgers depended on brings a lot of growing pains to seeing the field to start next season.

But lucky for the Packers they can beat up on a bad division before the big boys await in the playoffs. Same story most every year.

Falcons trade QB Matt Ryan to the Colts for a 3rd rd draft pick. Falcons move immediately to sign f/a QB Marcus Mariota to a two year contract to be their stop-gap until they find the next franchise QB of the future.

Colts took a 489 year old Phillip Rivers on a one year F/A deal and then traded for a crappy bust QB in Wentz, realized Wentz actually sucks, and now kinda stole Matt Ryan if you ask me. 3rd rd pick is all? Matt Ryan still has some quality years in him left.

What's Ryan's contract worth?

I agree with you that Ryan is a decent QB with some quality years in him, but if he's too expensive for Atlanta to build around him, getting rid of him might have been worth it to get nothing in return, and they got a 3rd round pick. I don't think Matt Ryan (or Marcus Mariota) is the answer to getting the Falcons back to the Super Bowl, but if Mariota is cheaper than Ryan, and it gives them leeway to improve the team and draft their QB of the future and develop him behind Mariota, it could be a smart move for them.

As for the Colts? Also might be great for them... They were a playoff team if not for Wentz. Ryan>Wentz IMHO, so this might give them a needed boost.

Post by: ELA on March 21, 2022, 09:37:57 PM
I think it's a win-win.  Falcons don't have enough pieces around Ryan to win with a decent, but not great (anymore) QB.  The Colts do.

Is there a clear reason why the Chiefs traded away Tyreek Hill?

His production was as high as ever last season, with career highs in receptions and avg yds/rec.

Hill is still a lethal game breaker who really put the Chiefs offense over the top.

Not sure what KC is thinking. Maybe they didn’t want to pay him?

salary cap. they just gave Mahomes a massive contract last year. The minute they gave him that contract, it was game over for keeping Mahomes, Hill, and Kelcee together. They are all top 3 at worst and arguably even #1 at their positions in the NFL. No way to give each of those 3 guys max dollar deals and then also keep 50 other guys that don't suck. you want some other good players- means you had to ship Hill or Kelcee, can't keep 'em both.
