QB with the most attempts
Top 4 ball-carriers with the most carries
Top 6 pass-catchers (WR/TE/RB) with the most receptions
K with most FG attempts
P with most punts

I think rolltidefan initiated this idea on my game thread, so I'll do Bama first:

Nope, it's by carries, sorry.

it's your game, so not gonna say it's wrong, but this isn't really an all time great team if you do it this way. it's just a most used team.
the wr worked out well for bama (except maze), but qb and rb (except alexander) are way off for all time greats.
to me, an all time team is the best possible team you can assemble, and this is far from the best possible team for bama.

Huskers have 3 Heisman winners
Johnny the Jet would probably make the top 6 pass catchers, but I doubt Rozier at RB or Crouch at QB make the list
but, it's still a useful list

Sure, all-time great teams are all the same guys we know are great. This is just a fun look at yeah, the most "used" guys and who they are. What a team of them would look like. Fewer Heismans and legends, and guys who simply were on the field the most.
I find it interesting, anyway.

Hmm, I guess the game is to see where there are kinks that don't totally fit. And this one is interesting.
No argument with Bevell. Wilson was the best to play at UW, but he played there only a year, whereas Bevell was really great for his time and started forever.
RB is interesting because it speaks to some things. I'm shocked Hill got THAT many carries. He only played three years, missed maybe a third of a season and had to hold off a more talented backup another. Davis had the misfortune that his two great seasons came early in his career, not late. The fact Davis' seasons, 1466 and 1555, are not in the top 10 in bonkers.
With White/Gordon, you had a weird thing where three of UW's top five rushers overlapped by multiple years. The No. 3 rusher was a one-year starter and only had one other year in the top-two. The No. 5 rusher started only one year. The early 90s backs were good I guess.
WRs look fine. TE is a reminder he really put up some crazy numbers. Meyer's inclusion is mostly about the offenses those years. I guess those returners look OK, I could make a case for either Jim or Brandon Williams at punt, a few guys at kick.
It's interesting how the balance and non-traditional QBing make this sorta silly for Nebraska.

Yeah, maybe for Nebraska it would make more sense to pick the QB(s) with the most carries, not pass attempts.
648 Crouch
585 Taylor Martinez
516 Jammal Lord
431 Steve Taylor
423 Armstrong......amazed he had more carries than Frazier, but he did. By 80.

Frazier was more a big play guy than option hammer as I recall, plus he only played four games as a junior.

What source material do you have for all this information?

For the kick and punt returners, if a school doesn't have a guy in the career top 250, I have to track it down.

Illinois
QB - Nathan Scheelhaase (passing + carries), Juice Williams (carries)
RB - Robert Holcombe, Antoineo Harris, Josh Ferguson (receptions)

P - Justin Duvernois
KR - V'Angelo Bentley
PR - Eugene Wilson

Thanks for that source. I was surprised Earl Douthitt was on the list for Iowa. He was one of the leading return guys in the early mid 1970s.
I followed his every move as a high schooler while I worked to perfect my cornerback play. He was one of my idols. Despite how bad Iowa was, Earl Douthitt was very good. To play D-1 even at a bad school, you have to have speed, anticipation, and be very good. But, Douthitt was two steps ahead of most Iowa players of the 1970s.
I think he was leading the Big Ten and was one of the nation's top returners mostly because Iowa gave up a lot of scores; as a result he had a lot of kick-off returns.

KR - Dorien Bryant
PR - Ernest Calloway OR Anthony Chambers (tie)

Most schools have the media guides for free on their websites now too. Different age, I remember waiting to try and land a copy of the UM one growing up. I'm sure I have a bunch stashed in a box somewhere in my parents house now.

I have lots and lots of old Nebraska media guides (70s/80s/90s), They used to be the size of a small composition sized notebook, down the maximum limit of only 8 color pages, then color was only allowed on front and back (inside/outside cover). Eventually they allowed a 8 1/2 X 11 or so. They got really big by early 90s (spiral bound). I remember some Akron writer talking about how Nebraska's spring football media guide was bigger than anybody's regular season media guide in the MAC. Those were must orders for us, usually arriving in early August.

That was the one thing I always hated about the UM ones, they weren't spiral bound, but they were big enough they should have been. A lot of the bindings on mine get destroyed.

I think this is actually one of the more accurately representative ones, as far as how close it would be to "best."

Tommie was injured with the blood clot issue and missed most of a season, Tommie also had better backs behind him to share carries with

Cool. I noticed Charles Rogers was 7th on the receptions list, though.

He was Prop 48 and then left early. I think he only played two seasons.
-
And he was a beast, lol.
Florida had a guy that might've been its best WR ever and only stayed 2 years - Jabar Gaffney.
