Title: Weird Injuries
Post by: Kris60 on March 01, 2022, 06:14:48 AM
I put on a pair of pants yesterday that had a string hanging off the pocket.  I sort of wrapped the string around my finger and yanked it off like I have a thousand other times.  But this time when I pulled the string dug into my finger to the point it bled, and actually bled quite a bit.  When I went into the bathroom with blood running down my hand my wife just laughed when I told her what happened.

Several years ago a friend of mine was coaching his daughter’s soccer team.  He grabbed a pair of socks rushing out the door he thought were his, but found out were his daughter’s when he got to the field.  They were too small and really hard to get on.  When practice was over he sat down to take off the socks. He was struggling because they were so tight.  He had his forefinger and middle finger wedged between the sock and his leg and in trying to peel the sock off somehow got his forefinger caught in a weird way and broke his finger and tore some ligaments in it.  He had to have surgery to fix it.

What is the dumbest way you ever hurt yourself?

HA!!! One time I was about 22 early in the morning made some coffee as I reached up into the cupboard above and grabbed a cup.In the process of grabbing the coffee pot when i turned the top of my head went flush into the corner of the open cupboard door - that did not deflect left/right just straight in drawing blood and man it hurt. So pissed I punched the door for retribution 😜 it slams shut breaking 2-3 gasses in the front row flies back open and hits me in the face. I had just gotten destroyed by objects that seemingly don't move unless there's a demon possession or by someone who hasn't had their coffee yet. I haven't admitted it until right now.Prolly would have won video of the year on one of those shows

I was in my teens so theres my excuse

I made a loop in a piece of rope and was going to cut it with a very sharp knife

anyway when I cut the rope I did not realize I had the knife with sharp side down instead of up and almost cut me index finger off

it was to the bone

the doctor was not amused

have that scar to this day and yes from then on I made damn sure the sharp side was pointing up

Let's see.

I was 4 years old, riding my Big Wheel down the sidewalk. A big car (they were all big then) backed up out of a driveway and ran over my right leg. Turned out to be a crappy summer for me.

Earlier this season, I somehow managed to get a gnarly turf toe injury during the first week of my BB season. Not sure how I did it. Spent the rest of the month in a walking boot.

Last Saturday we went as a family to watch and support my wife's friend's 4 yo son playing tee ball.

As we were walking back to the car, there were basketball courts. I asked my 14 yo if he could touch the rim... And then I tried.

My back hasn't been the same since. And I didn't get the rim.

That was... Stupid.

I fouled a baseball off my instep in mid-January.

It still hurts, and is swollen.  Old men should not try and play baseball.

First hint of gettiing old (I was about 35 or so) - me and the chick I was hooking up with joined some kids in a pickup football game.  The first time I get the ball, I make a sweet juke and headed in for a TD and immediately pull a hamstring.

I never stretched before pickup football with my friends growing up, into my 20s even, but 35+ requires it.  More than being embarrassed, I just felt it was so DUMB.

Cheer up, by the time you're 45 you'll need to stretch just to get out of bed...

I've mentioned before how I chuckle seeing these 35-45 year olds at fantasy camp blowing a muscle on Day One, it's often the hammie or quad or calf.

Predictable.  I can't run fast enough for that to be an issue.

Yeah, that's the problem - they were just 10-12 year olds, but I caught all 3 of them with a juke and my first stride upfield yanked the hammy bad.

It's like when I work out once every 5 years.....I throw what I used to do up on the bar and can barely do it (normal workout, not max)......but then I can't get out of a chair the next day.

Oh man, in Ohio the rough is like 98% poison ivy. I'd only get it once in the spring though, then I'd be good the rest of the year.

Oh, I also had a high-ankle sprain playing soccer with kids.  Went to simply stop the ball with the bottom of my foot, but was on a decline and running....foot just gave out from under me.
I was grabbing handfuls of grass trying not to cuss up a storm.  God, that hurt!  And the fun part was having to limp 75-80 yards to the building on my own.
I can still feel the bump on my leg.

When the kids were younger, we had one of those trampolines in the back yard for the kids. We were out there one evening watching the kids bounce on the thing when my son challenged me to do a flip on the trampoline. I was in my early 40's and still thought I was invincible, so I gave it a shot. I only made it a little past half way when I landed on the back of my neck. I couldn't move my neck for about a week.

Similar. I was 5yo running down the sidewalk. Ran into the side of a car, Slide underneath it and my foot got caught up in the drive shaft.  Spent 30 days in the hospital and had skin grafts onto my foot and lower shin.  Skin graft didn't take, so I had another skin graft in the next year.  That skin graft formed massive keloids, so 2 years later they cut if all of and did another skin graft with a different type of technique. Still have keloids, but nothing like the second graft.   The last skin graft came from the side of my Butt. So I will tell people let me show you my butt and pull up my pant leg and pull down my sock.

:a102:,can't imagine. One time I stepped on a nail that went well into my foot. The board wasn't to big so my buddy grabbed both ends as i laid down and he put his foot on a tree to pull it out. I hopped home maybe a half mile home and mom took me to the Hospital later after pouring mecurochrome in it(some of you might remember that). When arriving the Doctor stuck a needle/syringe right up the hole to deaden the pain (so he could clean it out).Well the solution squirted out the side - bad seal he said so he had to re-up the shot and go in again - i was on the couch with foot up for 2 days. Then crutches for about two more days - that was throbbing hell.some of the worst i can remember

I blew out my flip flop
Stepped on a pop top
I broke my leg twice, I had to limp on back home
But there's booze in the blender
And soon it will render

No it was spinning that is what torn up the foot and thus the need for skin grafts after repairing the tendons that were torn.

I've done that twice, nail through the foot. I pulled it out both times then my mom poured some chemicals in the wound to make sure it hurt. The first time it happened, I ended up going to get a tetanus shot which hurt longer than the nail injury did. The 2nd time, the doctor said the first shot was still good.

I've always been pretty injury prone and have had a number of stupid injuries. Broke my wrist as a kid by jumping over something in the wet grass and upon landing, I tried to catch myself with my right arm. Shot that summer all to hell.

In high school, I had my forehead split open by an elbow while playing a pickup basketball game in the gym during lunch. Two days later with the stiches in my forehead above one eye, I was cutting through the weight room between classes, came around a corner and caught bar from the pull down weights that the guy ahead of my had just swung as he was passing by, just above the other eye requiring stitches. For the next week, I looked like I had lost a heavy weight boxing match, badly.

While helping a buddy with some construction, shot my index and middle fingers together with a 16 penny nail from a nail gun when the gun jumped back after the first shot, hit the wall behind me and came down on the boards I was nailing together causing it to shoot again, this time missing the boards and proceeding down and through those fingers that I was using to steady the two boards. As I was embarrassed by that move, I quietly removed the nail with a pair of pliers, wrapped them up with a rag and went on with what I was doing. A few mins later my buddy yelled, "Were did all this blood come from" looking at me and quickly figured out what happened. He tried to take me to the hospital, but I said all they would do is bandage it and send me home.

There are many other stupid injuries, but those are the ones
