Finally, some news out of Iowa City. Quarterbacks Coach Ken O'Keefe steps down.
He had two stints at Iowa. His first stint was 1999-2011 as Offensive Coordinator. He stepped down and joined the Dolphins, and returned to Iowa as Quarterbacks Coach when Brian Ferentz was elevated to Offensive Coordinator in 2017.
Kirk Ferentz probably thought having a former Offensive Coordinator on staff would help Brian Ferentz in his new job.
I thought O'Keefe was a good coach but poor fit as a quarterbacks coach. O'Keefe did not play quarterback. O'Keefe played wide receiver in D-III.

Wisconsin has a better chance to fix its offense. Iowa needs a new OC.

Oddly enough, Greg Davis's offenses performed better on average than Brian Ferentz's offense. Hawkeyes offense is in a downward spiral, but it is hard to get much closer to rock bottom.

I am okay with Abdul Hodge, but I am not okay with Brian Ferentz as QBs coach. What do you think?

Charlie Jones, Iowa's great punt/kickoff returner and Big Ten's best returner, and decent wide receiver entered the transfer portal. Jones decided to come back for a final season to upgrade his resume for the NFL. I am speculating that two factors affected his decision to enter the transfer portal.
(1) NIL prospects at Iowa are limited.
(2) Spring ball showed once again that the Iowa QB situation is bad with no prospect for improvement in 2022.
(3) Iowa named as QBs coach a former offensive center, and retained for yet another year one of the least accomplished Offensive Coordinators in program hx, which is offensive to the senses, and I am thinking offensive to the sensibility of Charlie Jones.

I am speculating some more that Charlie Jones would not go to Minnesota. It would be almost no different than attending Iowa in terms of their passing game. If Jones is trying to showcase his receiving skills, I could see him transferring to Purdue.

The future is looking up. Hawkeyes need the firepower upfront to compete against USC and Wisc.

Charlie Jones did go to Purdue. I was thinking Nebraska might compete for the BTW title, and now I am thinking Purdue will be competitive, too, and not just because of Charlie Jones committing to Purdue. Charlie Jones surely studied teams with an offensive scheme and QB that could throw the ball; Iowa was not that team.

IOWA CITY — University of Iowa Athletics must turn over all materials former players have requested from an “independent and external review” of the Hawkeye football program — including reports on specific coaches — despite UI assertions the records are subject to “attorney-client privilege” and should be private.
“It is uncontested that (the Husch Blackwell law firm’s) investigation was not made, and the report was not prepared, because of any prospect of litigation,” according to Chief U.S. Magistrate Judge Helen Adams’ June 24 order in the federal lawsuit that several former Hawkeye football players filed in October 2020 against the UI, the Iowa Board of Regents, head football coach Kirk Ferentz, and others.
Referencing the UI’s decision to hire national law firm Husch Blackwell LLP to conduct an independent and external review of the program, following allegations it enabled racially-motivated discrimination, Adams ordered the UI to release all its findings — not just the parts it wants.
“The (Husch Blackwell) documents came into existence well in advance of the plaintiffs’ lawsuit,” she wrote. “The defendants could not possibly have prepared the HB documents in anticipation of litigation when no such prospects of litigation existed. As such, the HB documents are not privileged.”
The UI in early 2020 hired the firm to investigate the football program’s culture after numerous former players went public with allegations of racism and discrimination — leading the UI’s $1.3 million separation deal with former strength coach Chris Doyle, among those accused.
As part of its review, Husch Blackwell interviewed current and former players and employees and produced a report confirming the program “perpetuated racial or cultural biases and diminished the value of cultural diversity.”
The university publicly released one report on the findings in July 2020, and a group of former players subsequently filed a federal lawsuit — which has brought accusations of harassment, intentional delays and bad faith from one side or the other.
