Is this the Bowl Games SOC thread?Either that or your choice of breakfast food
Is this the Bowl Games SOC thread?Brian Kelly is a Cajun now. Haven't you heard his new speaking voice?
Max Johnson enters the transfer portal, meaning LSU has to either burn the redshirt year of their one remaining scholarship QB (he's played in 4 games), or throw a walk on in thereI'd take all the bowl practice time, and then fake a COVID outbreak and skip the game.
Good times
Brian Kelly is a Cajun now. Haven't you heard his new speaking voice? If he spent a week in England, he'd be Madonna with the fake British accent.
I'd take all the bowl practice time, and then fake a COVID outbreak and skip the game.don't give them ideas.
put in the walk-on. not worth burning the shirt.Agree, it's a very minor bowl game, good for practice time and playing some youngsters.
Agree, it's a very minor bowl game, good for practice time and playing some youngsters.Does that even matter anymore? How many players stick around after 3 yrs let alone 4-5? Not the Sunday guys I suppose the S.A.s will
When is the 1st Bowl game,Week End after Army/Navy?The Friday after, Bahamas Bowl and Cure Bowl.
The Army-Navy bowl? The bowl for AMERICA!
I'd take all the bowl practice time, and then fake a COVID outbreak and skip the game.if only the Huskers could
if only the Huskers couldIs more time with Frost a good thing?
I'd bet that the Outback will not sell out. Not even close. That would be a good bet. It' hasn't been within 10,000 of a sellout since 2008. Looks like 2007 was the last time it was within 1,000 of listed capacity.
Is more time with Frost a good thing?time will tell
time will tellThis is my thought. We've just seen a ton of faces move around. Might not be the worst to keep the powder dry.
I don't think anyone better was willing to come to Lincoln this years so.......... probably a good thing
Not much in the way of defense but an entertaining game between N. Illinois and Coastal Carolina down to the last second.Unless you thought Coastal -11 was easy money
Unless you thought Coastal -11 was easy moneyRocky Lombardi haunts your wallet from the grave
The CEO of the Jimmy Kimmel Bowl doesn't even pretend to have another job, and appears to be living very wellI remember going through the tax statements of some bowl games, where some CFO would work 10 hours a week and get paid 400 grand. I have to think the they actually worked less than that
?I had not looked over the Bowl Line Ups and thought you were yanking chains
Prime Time's 11-1 Jackson State team playing today at noon.On the wrong side of a loss to mighty SC State and a coach who was almost pushed out a few years back.
Wonder where he lands. He's not going to be there forever, an FBS P5 team will hire him eventually.
Boring Myrtle Beach Bowl going on. Field is the color of radiator fluid spilt onto shag carpeting. That or that Baja Blast Mountain Dew flavor only available at Taco Bell.I feel like Tulsa had a fun upset of someone in recent years. Maybe late in the game they came out in a jumbo set and drew a game-winning offside on 4th and short?
I can't think of one Tulsa game I've ever watched. 23-10 Tulsa leading Old Dominion in the 4th Q.
Gerrymandering SOBsFCS NCG will be Montana St and N Dakota St, a "border war" between two schools over 800 miles apart.
Boring Myrtle Beach Bowl going on. Field is the color of radiator fluid spilt onto shag carpeting. That or that Baja Blast Mountain Dew flavor only available at Taco Bell.Tulsa is just one of the blandest group of five schools. They are always fine, seemingly never more, never less. I honestly don't think I could name a single player. They've put in the league, but they are better than a couple dozen programs that I definitely could. MSU played them in the opener a few years ago, and I think held them to some obscene negative amount of yards.

Texas A&M dropping out of the Gator Bowl due to COVID issuesSun Bowl might be off too, due to issues with Miami
Lot of smoke of Rutgers to the Gator BowlI heard they were offered, but passed. Haven't practiced, kids already sent home
I heard they were offered, but passed. Haven't practiced, kids already sent homeThat's what was originally reported, but seemingly things have changed?
Army wins!End was fun as hell. I also need to find the name of the color guy and insult him.

the Big Ten Network just announced that Michigan is taking boosters as a team
UCF dispatches FloridaBoy- Florida is a mess. Completely lost their composure. No discipline at all
well, the kids got a trip to HawaiiWould be a nice gesture by the island to force them to quarantine there for a month or two
hopefully, they had decent weather

Would be a nice gesture by the island to force them to quarantine there for a month or twoTheir quarantine is ten days and not fun at all, if you abide by it. The tour operators are supposed to check your status (but the one we did didn't bother). Their computer system for entry rarely seems to work in our experience. My account was listed as inactive. The lady at the airport said it happens routinely. It only took us about ten minutes extra to get through, the lady was very helpful.
UCF dispatches Floridaand Mizzou loses to Army.
and Mizzou loses to Army.I'm pulling for a Michigan-Cincinnati final, personally.
SEC! SEC! SEC!
Lol.
edit: oh yeah, A&M forfeits.
So mighty SEC is 0-3 so far. Looking forward to them losing more bowls than they win, then Alabama winning it all (per usual) and everyone claiming the SEC is so awesome....but in reality it's not- Alabama is just that much better than every program in every conference.
I'm pulling for a Michigan-Cincinnati final, personally.why not? Michigan has already beaten the 2nd best team in Ohio. Why not beat the best in Ohio and claim the state as ours. :)
I'm pulling for a Michigan-Cincinnati final, personally.Damn should that unlikely scenario take and the Bearcats won......Fickell could name his price
Damn should that unlikely scenario take and the Bearcats won......Fickell could name his priceif Fickell won this whole thing...forget about naming his price in college.....I'd have to think NFL teams would also start coming after him as well and throwing piles of cash at him. He'd be the hottest commodity in coaching we've seen in awhile.
Houston up 10-6 on Auburn late in the 3rd.A&M didn't forfeit, they just brought in a better team to take their place. :)
SEC! SEC! SEC! might start off 0-4 after Florida lost to UCF, Missouri lost to Army, A&M forfeited, and Auburn on the verge of losing to Houston.
Auburn goes down, 17-13 to Houston. SEC starts 0-4. They'll have an opportunity to get their first win tonight when Miss State plays Texas Tech.I think the sec has lost 3 bowl games not 4
Why the hell are the playoff games NYE and not NYD? What is the rationale? It’s a Saturday. It’s perfect. The Sugar and Rose Bowls are not going to move off that day. The playoff will never be New Year's Day except 9 years where those two bowls are the playoffs
I think the sec has lost 3 bowl games not 4A&M forfeited. Counts as an L on my scoreboard.
Holiday Bowl tonight cancelled
The Sugar and Rose Bowls are not going to move off that day. The playoff will never be New Year's Day except 9 years where those two bowls are the playoffsI guess. Idk. I grew up watching overlapping bowl games. That was part of the fun. Channel flipping from one game to the other.
Holiday Bowl tonight cancelledOne of the few bowls that was supposed to be on broadcast TV, I was looking forward to watching.
Really sorry state of affairs.Clusterfuck would be my way to describe this.
I guess. Idk. I grew up watching overlapping bowl games. That was part of the fun. Channel flipping from one game to the other.ESPN owns all of them. They aren't going to pay that much money to divide their audience
hopefully it will hit the NFL playoffs in a couple weeks the same wayMaybe the Lions can Rutger their way in!
Maybe the Lions can Rutger their way in!if they did this and then proceeded to win the super bowl....the universe would explode.
ESPN owns all of them. They aren't going to pay that much money to divide their audienceYeah, I guess. Effing Rose and Sugar.
Yeah, I guess. Effing Rose and Sugar.I agree with you BTW. I think the CFP should ALWAYS be NYD
if they did this and then proceeded to win the super bowl....the universe would explode.OAM's head would explode!
I agree with you BTW. I think the CFP should ALWAYS be NYDEven more so when it falls on a Saturday. Most people can stay up late without having to worry about going to work the next day.
I understand the TV window maximization strategy, but there's not a soul on the planet that ever said, 'you know what would be a good idea, let's schedule 'must see' football games for New Year's Eve in prime time.'It's such a weird mess.
Wow, Tanner Morgan is going for a 6th year next season. That's fun.I feel like this is an archetype played out over and over in CFB.
He's a good example of a QB with a lot of buzz, but loses his toys (good WRs in 2019) and then falls off a cliff.
in all honesty, I think we'll learn a lot more about Georgia's schedule tomorrow when UNC plays South Carolina and Tennessee plays Purdue. If those two also lose like Auburn, Florida, and Missouri lost to G5/service academies, may have to start to really look closer at Georgia's schedule. Florida and Missouri in the East already lost to UCF and Army respectively. Auburn just lost to a G5. And if SEC-E starts 0-4, well maybe SEC-E was really just that freaking bad and Georgia may have cake-walked through an easy division and pretty weak OOC with UAB, FCS, Georgia Tech, and a Clemson team early that while still had a good defense also had an all-time bad horrific offense.I'll help you out here. Even before all this, South Carolina was not helping UGA's schedule in the least. UT might have been, depending on the metric you use.
Even more so when it falls on a Saturday. Most people can stay up late without having to worry about going to work the next day.The more guys that continue to opt out of these non playoff bowls, the more they need to figure it out. I am as in favor of maintaining the bowls as possible, but under the current structure, which doesn't, why are we prioritizing Ohio state's backups vs. Utah in am exhibition game?

I am as in favor of maintaining the bowls as possible, but under the current structure, which doesn't, why are we prioritizing Ohio state's backups vs. Utah in am exhibition game? This is what I'm thinking.....if this remains the norm, all non-playoff bowls won't "count" any longer, like way back in the day. They'll just be exhibitions, largely a peek at the next season's talent, a la a spring jamboree scrimmage.
This is what I'm thinking.....if this remains the norm, all non-playoff bowls won't "count" any longer, like way back in the day. They'll just be exhibitions, largely a peek at the next season's talent, a la a spring jamboree scrimmage.it's not gross, just as it wasn't gross back in the early daze
It's gross.
At this point for the non-playoff bowls, you probably would prefer the guys who won't be returning to go ahead and opt out. It is a great advantage to next year's team for the Buckeyes to get a good look at the WRs and DTs who will be starting next year.Sort of yes, but I sort of enjoy them being a celebration of this years accomplishment. I don't love the thought of the Rose Bowl being a de facto spring game
The rub could be if these projected starters end up hitting the portal anyways after the bowl game. I have to remind myself that Jameson Williams didn't transfer until after the spring game last year, so there are more coming. I suppose he was expecting Olave to turn pro, so I don't blame him.
P5 a perfect 0-5 in bowl games. Luckily, they don't have to face another G5 team until Friday.I don't think that this proves what you want it to prove. Lets look a little closer:
Sort of yes, but I sort of enjoy them being a celebration of this years accomplishment. I don't love the thought of the Rose Bowl being a de facto spring gameSame. Bums me out a little.
I'm enjoying some leftover ham on croissants while watching the Gophers and Mountaineers.Since you watched, can you explain the teams both going for two after their early TD's?
Same. Bums me out a little. So pretty much like every other game this season. Heyo!
game will tell me nothing about my team. They will barely field a D-Line. Rrrrgh.
So pretty much like every other game this season. Heyo!😂😂
I don't think that this proves what you want it to prove. Lets look a little closer:For God's sake Medina. Prove what you want it to prove? It proves that this is funny. It's funny that the P5 hasn't beaten the G5 yet. That's it.
Since you watched, can you explain the teams both going for two after their early TD's?Cuz it's the silly season and we ought not draw any conclusions from these games.
Also, if we are going down that road, Alabama just barely beat Auburn and Florida, which means Alabama is about as good as an above average AAC team.LoL, we'll find out in a couple of days.
LoL, we'll find out in a couple of days.Naahhhh. I like fun. Different teams seems fun.
FWIW: We should ALL be hoping that Bama just absolutely obliterates Cincinnati because the next time some G5 goes undefeated they could take YOUR team's CFP spot. That is generally less likely if Cincy looks hopelessly overmatched and more likely if they look like they belong.
Three and out on defense followed by a punt return for a touchdown. Not a bad start for Maryland.and now it's really getting out of hand
Maryland couldn't afford to not join. They were cutting sports left and right.true, the money was too good to pass up. ACC TV money is a joke compared to the B1G.
Clemson vs Iowa State........Underachiever Bowl?Iowa State is who they always have been under Campbell.
It wasn't a surprise that ISU wilted under having high expectations for the first time ever, but I don't think anyone saw Clemson's issues coming into the season.

well Oregon sucks, so.............I wouldn't say they suck....they are a 10 win team that did beat Ohio State....
nice of Dabo to toot his own horn regrading number of ten win seasonswould've been hilarious if the interviewer had interrupted him and said.... relax....you know you just won the cheeze-it bowl, it's not like you won the dorito bowl bro.
douche
I wouldn't say they suck....they are a 10 win team that did beat Ohio State....sorry, I watched their two games vs Utah
Plenty of sucky teams put up points on Lincoln Riley's Oklahoma defenses. The fact that they're holding Oregon to just 3 points is actually shocking.
kind of amazing how Lincoln Riley leaves and Bob Stoops comes back to coach 1 game and suddenly Oklahoma plays defense again. Will never convince me otherwise that defense isn't a mindset and attitude that in large part emanates out from the head coach down and into the rest of the team. Saw it first hand when RichRod came over and flat out said he doesn't worry about the defense too much. Riley has zero interest in prioritizing defense and that's why his teams never played any. Think it will just be the same at USC. Maybe worse- as he'll be able to get his hands on even shinier 5* offensive weapons at 'SC.That's a lot to glean from 2.5 quarters of a bowl game.
Why is it suddenly "in" for teams to do this stupid Karate Kid crane kick after a TD?(https://64.media.tumblr.com/a6f598f4728b8d249c364c7b5957d9da/0c2ff07671b986da-42/s500x750/340df55aa31e45ec66ccee6c990120fb68f86182.gifv)

If it's purely an Alabama thing, ok... But I just saw the South Carolina receiver do it after a TD. And I've seen other players from other teams do it.
I guess they want to be original, just like everyone else?
A reminder below of how well so many of these after-thought bowls score in ratings, even beating the NBA. Just as many eyes on the New Mexico Bowl's matchup of Fresno State Vs UTEP - two teams likely over half the viewing audience had not watched all year - as NBA games with much more familiar faces and a whole lot of industry hype across commercials and talk radio. No wonder ESPN caretakes ownership of most of these bowls.the ESPN runs NFL fantasy football shows that crush NBA games in the ratings. Let that sink in for a minute. Football is most definitely king in America.
Also of note, the high ratings do not carry over to filling the stands with fans.

Truth is, I've had bowl games on the TV all week. I haven't exactly been "watching" them all, but I've been contributing to the ratings.Same. A game is always on during bowl season even if I’m barely watching it.
It's a weekday between Christmas and New Year's, right now being 10:48 AM... There's no other compelling content being broadcast than UNC/USCe right now. What am I going to watch, The Price Is Right?
the NBA sucksOnly dunks and 3s.
amazed they have that many viewers
Tennessee-Purdue is delicious. It should get its own thread...
Why is nobody tackling in the Tenn-Purdue game? It looks like both defenses are completely worn out.I think that's exactly it.
from a michigan man?And tennessee won that game.
Appy st?
from a michigan man?didn't even notice the team, just saw crying Michael Jordan and thought that was hilarious and a great photo shop job lol
Appy st?
She makes awesome cookies.really? cause she looks like she makes milk....just saying.
really? cause she looks like she makes milk....just saying.Ultimately she'll make bacon.. for now, cookies.
Big Ten soon to be 5-0 in bowl games this year....with all five games against power 5 teams. SEC 1-5.....with three losses to G5/Independent. lol.SEC is 1-6. A&M's forfeit counts as a loss on my scoreboard. Pansies.
Too bad Rutgers is basically sure to break the streak.
This ASU team is ticking me offMy understanding is that ASU has half its starting defense not playing for various reasons
My understanding is that ASU has half its starting defense not playing for various reasonsWELL, then ASU might have some pretty good depth.
This might not be the year for Paul Chryst to say bowl games aren't given, they are earnedAt least he's on brand w the wardrobe once again.
My understanding is that ASU has half its starting defense not playing for various reasonsAs BaB mentioned, UW was missing a lot of players too. They just weren't opt-outs like ASU's were.
Glad I didn't bother staying up til the end.You missed a 10-minute drive to end a game. It was the most Big Ten of triumphs.
You missed a 10-minute drive to end a game. It was the most Big Ten of triumphs.Exactly. That drive was a thing of beauty.
Yeah, non-playoff bowls should just be exhibitions. What's the point of teams at 85% or 63% or whatever is stupid. All of sports are exhibitions. The point is people get to watch their teams 8 percent more and have a last experience with them.
Yeah, non-playoff bowls should just be exhibitions. What's the point of teams at 85% or 63% or whatever is stupid.Ask the Networks or Athletic Departments
You missed a 10-minute drive to end a game. It was the most Big Ten of triumphs.great, didn't score in the 2nd half - could have covered and made me some money
Yeah, non-playoff bowls should just be exhibitions. What's the point of teams at 85% or 63% or whatever is stupid. They are exhibitions. True, we count the win/loss and the individual stats, but I didn't go into watching the MCB thinking it was particularly meaningful. I didn't want my team to get embarrassed, but as that game went to OT I wouldn't have been crushed by a loss.
nobody likes KellyThe cajuns will give it a shot
The cajuns will give it a shotthey will hate him sooner or later
Targeting? Give me a break.forearm shiver to the head
forearm shiver to the headSo violent the quarterback didn't even realize he got hit
Seems unfair that we're going to have to count Rutger's bowl loss against the conference, since they weren't supposed to be there in the first place.I mean, you know they'll have the Gator Bowl logo somewhere in the stadium next year
Nice tackling RutgerUgh, and again. Some horrible 3rd down tackling
Seems unfair that we're going to have to count Rutger's bowl loss against the conference, since they weren't supposed to be there in the first place.
Notre Dame’s Lines pushing Oklahoma State’s all over the Fiesta Bowl.Notre Dame never lacks for line play
I call BS on that espn graphic. 1986 sugar bowl was not a scoreless 1st.Nobody is old enough to remember that game, and young enough to still be awake to watch this one. They can say whatever they want
Matt Corral about to increase how many players opt outYup
I call BS on that espn graphic. 1986 sugar bowl was not a scoreless 1st.That's odd. Looks like 1982 was the most recent scoreless one before that.
Matt Corral about to increase how many players opt outHope it turns out just minor and he does his thing.
Oh I remember. 80s version of 2 tvs in our living room. 13 inch b&w on an end table on the Sugar Miami v Tenn while we pulled for OU vs Penn State on the 27 inch cabinet TV in the Orange.I was watching and pulling for OU because I hated Penn St. My hate for Miami really didn’t develop until the next season. I watched the Fiesta Bowl not really knowing what I wanted to happen.
Canes drove down and scored their only TD on that opening drive. Michael Irwin pointing and taunting.
Irvin obviously. *
Matt Corral about to increase how many players opt outBeen saying that- if playoffs expanded,Jaylon Smith/Jake Butt off the top of my head
Matt Corral about to increase how many players opt outonly if he can'r recover in time for the draft
hopefully some in the NFL value that traitThey don't, by and large. If they did, this wouldn't be a thing at all.
only if he can'r recover in time for the draftHearing the X-rays came back negative so that’s good, but the outcome isn’t as impactful as the visual. Seeing him lying on the ground in obvious pain and then come out on crutches is something that sticks in your mind.
seemed to be a minor thing since he's hopping around on the sidelines with his team
Matt would play in the game again tomorrow if he could, not the type to opt out
my type of player
hopefully some in the NFL value that trait
If you put a game on January 4, that's the easiest way to tell me that you don't want me to watch it. I assume it's the GoDaddy or BBVA Compass Bowl?Texas.
