Wings are probably still not a playoff team yet. Guessing still a year away. But the fact that the kids are here, for a city that hasn't had a team contending for a title in seriousness since the Tigers lost in the ALCS in 2013 is quite refreshing.
-
And blowing a 3 goal lead in the final 6 minutes is a reminder they are still a year away
-
Damn, this thread was hot this year. I guess all of the teams in the Big Ten footprint were either bad (Red Wings, Blackhawks, Blue Jackets, Flyers, Devils), or at best mediocre (Penguins, Wild, Capitals) I've lost some interest in the NHL, but the playoffs are still fun, and it will be nice to have the first real postseason since 2019

I noticed espn had decided that hockey exists again.

I think they just realized that the only way to get people to watch commercials anymore is with live sports. So they would rather overpay for the NHL, then show a random ESPN radio simulcast on nights where they don't have NBA playoff games

Did they have to overpay for the NHL?

I'm surprised the Lightning got demolished the other night by the Leafs 5-0. It just seems so unlikely that Toronto will be able to finally get out of the first round against the 2-time defending champs. Let's see if the Lightning get back on track tonight, or if the Leafs keep rolling.

Lightning either win the whole thing or they get skunked in the first round.

I don't think so. NBC was grossly underpaying for it since the lockout, and with them shutting down NBCSN, I'm not sure who ESPN was bidding against. It does seem like they've put the vast majority of their games on ESPN+, as they've done with MLB this year, aside from Sunday Night Baseball. The weeknight ESPN games are now on ESPN+, and the Firday night games shifted from MLB Network to Apple TV.
NHL and MLB are local media dominated sports, so I don't get the play. The ratings on national broadcasts were dismal, and sure as hell isn't going to get people to sign up for ESPN+ or Apple TV just to follow them.

Tnt had a regularseason pkg. Do they have any playoff series?

Yeah, ESPN and TNT are splitting both the NBA and NHL postseasons now

Hockey's Game 7 weekend was a lot of fun. And we have some very compelling matchups in this 2nd round. The only somewhat blah matchup to me is Rangers-Hurricanes.

Much better than NBA Game 7 Sunday

Dallas at Calgary was outstanding. Now the first Flames v Oilers series in 31 years.
-
I'll be watching the Lightning/Panthers tonight.

I guess it's kind of lame to adopt the 2-time defending champs as a team to root for, but I just moved down to the Tampa area. The Blue Jackets are my main team of course, but I think I'll cheer for Tampa if (when) the CBJ miss the playoffs.
-
I don't like the penguins. Really the only team I actively root for here is the pirates. But the city is buzzing more during a playoff run, so I think it's kind of easy to buy into the local team

I'm in the same boat as you. No Blackhawks to root for, so the locals get me.
Where about are you at? We're in Punta Gorda.

I'm in Bradenton, which is just north of Sarasota for those not familiar w/ the area.
-
Bradenton - Tommie Frazier's home town
any decent Husker fan knows where that is
-
IMG is there too I believe
-
Yes, it is.
-
Husker fans don't know much about that
ask the Longhorns

Can't wait to hear McDavid get blasted for the Oilers losing 8-6
-
That 3rd goal to tie it by Calgary was, is something to see. I won't spoil it of you haven't seen it yet.

Reminded me of the Red Wings goal.to salvage their 2002 Cup run. Goalie always has to keep his head on a swivel
-
These were two of my favorite units in the NHL, but not a fan of the Oilers redesign
-
They have two beauties in the closet and they go with that, again.
-
And that Flames goal.goes for naught. I still think the 15 years the NHL spent away from ESPN, has damaged the league beyond repair. Even a deep Connor McDavid playoff won't put it on the mainstream radar
-
Oilers moving on. I did not expect them to do this well, so it'll be interesting to see if the run continues or if the clock will strike midnight in the next round. The Blues or Avalanche would be a tough matchup, but I didn't think they would beat Calgary (let alone in 5 games).
-
In honor of the Avs making their first conference finals in 20 years, I think it's important to remember their last WCF game

-
Alright, an all MTZ Western Conference Final!
-
Didn't think it was possible, but the Oilers games are bordering on TOO high scoring for hockey
