so, another successful Sharkwater tailgate in the books.
I don't mind posting it here because the Gophers have been Sharkwater victims as many times as any visitor.  And they seem to enjoy it!

7 handles of Tito's down.  My brother was one of the victims, passed out in my truck for a while.
Fun seemed to be had by all.

Nebraska Cornhuskers (1-3, 3-4) at Minnesota Golden Gophers (1-1, 3-2)
NOON - Minneapolis, MN - espn2
There's that kids rhyme about the girl who, when she was good, was really, really good, but when she was bad she was awful.  That's kind of Nebraska.  When they are good, you see what Frost is going for.  But then the flip side is blowing winnable games at the end, and stupid mistakes.  Can the Huskers win a close game?  I don't know if they are just missing IT, or it's just a series of coinflip endings, and they just happen to keep landing tails.  I think this is the game we learn.  Bad Minnesota is bad enough that Nebraska has a shot at putting it on them.  If this were in Lincoln I might feel pretty good about that happening.  Not that Minneapolis is the most hostile of Big Ten environments, but I'd be surprised if this Husker team can do that on the road.  Particularly against a Gopher defense which has continued to play well, in spite of an offense that seems to be regressing.  Now they are without Trey Potts for the season, which leaves them without their top two running backs going into the season.  The top guy now appears to be Mar'Keise Irving, the freshman out of Illinois.  He showed some promise against Colorado, but in the last two games, has mustered just 2.3 ypc.  And the defensive cracks are beginning to show.  Even though they were able to beat Purdue, they were outgained by 150 yards, and mustered 12 first downs to 28 for Purdue.  They won the turnover battle, 2-0, and held the Boilers to field goals on 3 of 4 red zone trips, one of which they missed.  They also let Aidan O'Connell throw the ball all over them, 371 yards, his best game of the season.  That was Aidan O'Connell.  Adrian Martinez is playing on a whole other level right now, which is largely getting ignored due to Nebraska's sub-.500 record.  But in terms of Expected Points Added, he's #2 in the nation, behind only Liberty's Malik Willis, who is getting a lot of buzz as being the first quarterback taken in the NFL Draft next year.  I'm not convinced that it is just bad luck with Nebraska, but I'm even less confident in Tanner Morgan having to win a game on his own with no healthy running backs.
NEBRASKA 26, MINNESOTA 24

I would feel better making a prediction if I knew what version of this Gopher team was going to show up. Is it the one that went to Boulder and beat the piss out of Colorado, or the one that shat their pants vs. Bowling Green? As long as PJ is at the helm and Mike Sanford is the OC, I'm afraid it'll be the latter.

Series History: Nebraska vs. Minnesota
Nebraska and Minnesota will be meeting for the 62nd time overall and the 11th consecutive season as Big Ten opponents. Minnesota holds a 34-25-2 lead in the all-time series.

• Before Nebraska joined the Big Ten, Minnesota was the Huskers' most frequent opponent among conference schools with 51 meetings between 1900 and 1990.

•  Nebraska and Minnesota have split 10 meetings as Big Ten opponents. Minnesota has won five of the past eight matchups, following a 16-game Nebraska win streak in the series.

•  Minnesota owned a 29-6-2 lead in the all-time series following a win in 1960, but Nebraska owns a 19-5 lead since 1963.

•  Scott Frost posted his first win at Nebraska against Minnesota in October of 2018, recording a 53-28 victory in Lincoln.

•  Nebraska's 84-point outburst in the 1983 victory in Minneapolis is the largest scoring output by a Husker team in the modern era (since WWII).

This Week's Numbers
5 - The Nebraska offense is one of the nation's best in producing long plays. The Huskers rank in the top 5 nationally in plays of 20+, 30+, 40+, 50+, 60+, 70+ and 80+ yards including leading the nation in both 60-yard and 70-yard plays.

10 - Quarterback Adrian Martinez is the first Husker quarterback to rush for 10 touchdowns in a season since Taylor Martinez had 10 in 2012. Adrian Martinez is one of only three players in the nation with 10 rushing touchdowns in 2021.

totally agree which is why I would not bet on this game either way
two weeks to prepare can either hurt or help and really the OC has done nothing to impress anyone.
if the bye week produces anything upon self reflection then we can come out and play with the best teams
if the bye week is not productive then we could get blown out

the Gopher off week concerns me a bit

Frost has been outcoached by the Gopher staff in the past

but, I will say, I don't think the Sooners or Spartans, or Wolverines outcoached Frost this season - perhaps some improvement

I admit I have not seen a lot of Nebraska's plays this season, but I was left with the impression that Nebraska's special teams were badly coached in its early games this year.

Especially that MSU  punt return Neb gave up for a TD late in 4Q.  I don'tt remember seeing any Neb coverage guys within 20 yards of MSU returner.  Maybe Neb has fixed their issues since then I just vaguely recall special teams being a problem.

MSU return was a case of poor execution by the punter.

Play called for a directional kick to the right side, punter pulled it far left.

but there's got to be someone responsible for calling the jacked punt and alerting the coverage

special team were much better vs Northwestern and Michigan, hopefully the trend continues

>> Nebraska will be playing its eighth game while Minnesota will be playing its sixth and coming off a bye week. Instead of making a fuss about the schedule, Dawson said it’s all about how you look at the situation. He said the Huskers have an advantage with two more games under their belt and more experience.

I'm not a gambler but if I were I wouldn't touch this game.  There are just too many things I can't figure out like:

This game is HUGE for both teams' bowl hopes.

First Nebraska:
Due to their tough schedule and head-scratching early loss to Illinois the Cornhuskers are 3-4 and will have to go at least 3-2 in their last five to make a bowl.  If they can beat Minnesota (in Minneapolis this weekend) and Purdue (at home next game, Halloween weekend) then they'll just need one upset in their last three games (vstOSU, @UW, vsIA) to go bowling.  That seems possible but if they drop one of these next two then they'd need to go 2-1 against tOSU/UW/IA and I just don't see that happening.

Minnesota:
The Gophers appear to be in much better shape at 3-2.  They "only" need to go 3-4 in their last seven to make a bowl and they do have the B1G's two worst teams (the ones from Illinois) left on the schedule.  That said, these Gophers are capable of playing just flat awful football.  They barely beat Miami, OH and lost to a BGSU squad that is 2-4 overall and 0-2 in the MAC.

Frost was also asked about Minnesota coach P.J. Fleck's comments that the Gopher 30-23 win over the Huskers was an example of "culture over skill."

To that, the Husker coach said, "I don't make it a habit of listening to those press conferences. Our culture has come 100 miles. I love where our culture is too. I think they have some skilled players too, so I'm surprised to hear it."
