Two Big Games, Aubie at PSU and Bama at Florida.

Two middllin' games, USCe at UGA and Stanford at Vandy, Miss State-Memphis may qualify here.

I drank the Bama Koolaid but UF could give them issues I think.  I favor PSU over Aubie.  The Dawgs should have the Cocks and Stanford over Vandy.

As of Saturday morning, the Alabama Crimson Tide are a 17.5-point favorite against the Florida Gators, according to BetMGM. The over/under is 74.5 points. The first half over/under is 37.5 points. Alabama is -1000 to win outright, and Florida is +650 to win outright.

Either we can hang with them or we can't.  It's possible (not probable) that Grantham has some ideas up his sleeve, but I'm doubtful, as I'm sure he did that in Atlanta last year (when we had a perceived better chance at winning).

Either we can hang with them within 10 points or they can name the score and 17.5 points would be kind.  I don't see a middle area with it.
Title: Re: Week 3
Post by: Cincydawg on September 14, 2021, 08:18:56 AM
I think it plausible that the Gators can score points and keep it fairly close, say a final of 48-30, somewhat akin to last year.   It also could be 48-37 or something.

I find the various lines usually to be a pretty good predictor of outcomes overall, not for each game obviously.

If I were betting, I would take UF and points in this one.

Score guesses on "real games":

Bama 45  Florida 27
UGA 31  USCe 17
PSU 27  Auburn 16

Stanford 20  VaNDY 16
Miss State 31  Memphis 21
Title: Re: Week 3

Bama 45- 31
Uga 35-10
Aub 21-20
Stan 28-3
Msst 31-21

Bama is just that good, and so is jawjuh.  Auby struggles with games they should dominate and stand to teams they shouldnt- and that character doesn't change with coaches... Vanda is that bad.  Air raid is just warming up.  That kind of O takes two to three weeks to gel up.

I'm thinking the UF game is about breaks- if they can create some mischief and snag a t/o or two they might pull thos one off.
Title: Re: Week 3
Post by: Cincydawg on September 15, 2021, 12:46:07 PM
UGA is not running the ball well as yet, it's a concern.
Title: Re: Week 3
Post by: Drew4UTk on September 15, 2021, 02:33:21 PM
They won't have to against USCe, and, several of those points will be special teams or by the D... at least set up by the D and T/Os.   USCe isn't ready for what they're about to encounter.

I hate both bama and Florida.  But..  gotta admit... I'll be watching this game.  As good as bama is I think they're overrated a touch, (meaning UGA is closer to them) and while swallowing back vomit I think UF may be underrated.  I gots a funny feeling about this one, and if it weren't a game I must write off due to emotional attachment, I'd go with UF on the points.  I think it'll be closer than 15.5 points...  I got nothing to justify that notion with though.

Regardless of all the hullabaloo about how good Bama is, there are major problems. For instance, Bama is using four running backs. Only one is averaging more than five yards per carry despite playing two opponents with suspect run defenses. The reason for this imo is because the new oline has not performed very well.

Secondly, everybody has heard about how good Young is outside the pocket and it's true. What is not being asked is why is he out of the pocket? Answer; because the oline has been collapsing and Young is running for his life.

That being said I like our team. There is a lot of talent and speed virtually everywhere.Hopefully the oline problems will get worked out. Right now this team is nowhere near as good as the last one.

Nobody's going to believe Alabama's in any danger of losing any game, until after it happens.

And even then, they'll probably get a rematch and win it.

I'd love for my favorite football team's outlook to be as predictable and boring as Alabama's is.  Excitement is overrated,

I disagree.  To a large degree Alabama has ruined the sport for me, and I mean that as sincerely and non-snarky as can be.  I still like to watch my home team play, but there's zero excitement that can be manufactured as far as who's going to win the conference this year.  At least in this league.  I don't really get into the "NC or bust" mentality, but I do want to win the conference, and I at least want to be excited for the ride as the season plays out to see who pulls it out, and which division will prevail in December.  It's boring as hell over here.  Watching everybody vie for second place is what's overrated. I look forward to the day when they're normal again, not because I hate them, but because maybe this league will be interesting again.

If it were my team on top I'd be loving every minute of the boring predictability.

College football has been pretty homogenous at the top, lately.  But it's a cycle, and will end.  Alabama, Clemson, OSU, and OU have had a stranglehold, but perhaps Oregon and UGA have pierced that armor.

It seems that way, but I don't know if that comports with human nature.  We get used to anything, and then we expect it.  The joy and the thrill goes away.

This is true in a number of Alabama fans I know.  It's not that they don't enjoy titles.  But they don't enjoy them like we enjoyed 2019.  How can they?  They happen every other year.  They're not special.  What they do get, though, is really, really worked up about every single loss.  Like, they can barely handle it.

I'm not so sure that's better.

Bring back regular college football.

Eh, I'm willing to suffer through and give it a try.  You know, for Science.

But what you're describing does remind me of this allegorical short story I read in 3rd grade, about a beggar that complained to a rich person when given a crust of bread to eat.  So the rich person made a deal, and fed him only meat for a very long time.  To the point that the beggar, could not stand meat any longer, and was begging once again for a crust of bread.

Except you see, I'm just fine with only getting the meat.  I'll BBQ it and eat it for every meal.  The End.

People have often told me money can't buy happiness and that a very high percentage of lottery winners are broke within a few years.  All I've ever asked for is the chance to prove them right.

T,his sounds a lot like if you don't let me win I'll take my ball and go home. Perhaps you can show some evidence of similar sentiments when LSU was beating the snot out of everybody.

A spectacular misrepresentation of the sentiment, but you caught me, I did enjoy 2019.

I suspect this is an urban myth, with a number of publicized examples because they are "newsworthy", while the folks who handled it well are not.

The "news" is nearly always about the very exceptional unusual event that hits someone out there.  Almost never do they cover the commonplace, which is, well, common.

I was once in the Dayton 11 PM news show, I guess it was a slow news night, when I had that engine out and landed in a soy bean field.  It wasn't really "news", but it was unusual, that doesn't happen often.

I'll take

Dawgs:  significantly more than 10
Cocks:  10

SCar gets a fg and then a garbage time TD against whatever UGA calls backups these days.

Alabama 35
Florida   17
