Did you go chalk?
It does not appear as though you picked a single upset.
Technically 22VA Tech over 20W Virginia is an upset, I suppose, but it's in Blacksburg.
Colorado St at home over OSU3?

He also has GaTech over #24 Tennessee. Thus the poll changes are:
- #4 USC, #5 Clemson, #6 PSU, #7 Washington, #8 OU, and #9 M each move up one while FSU moves down six.
- #17 LVille, #18 Miami, #19 KSU, #21 USF, and #24 Utah each move up one.
- #22 VaTech moves up three.
- #20 WVU and #24 Tennessee drop out.
- #23 Texas moves up two.
- #22 GaTech (for beating #24 Tennessee) and #25 WSU (for beating Montana State) are new to the poll.

I don't see a ton of room for upsets in Week 1. At least ones I'd predict, something always happens. It's kind of a lackluster Week 1 after the last couple of years. GT over Tennessee I assume would be an upset. Is Texas A&M winning in the Rose Bowl an upset?
Two years ago I had Minnesota over #2 TCU and VT over #1 OSU on opening weekend, and it didn't exactly pan out.

The Bama/FSU game will be interesting. I suspect if FSU loses, they'll drop like ELA predicted (and shouldn't, I don't think they should drop below 5 myself, but they will). However if Bama loses, they'll drop maybe to 5 at worst.
Polls are dumb.

Yeah, the trick is reflecting what will actually happen in the polls vs. what should happen. I think they've gotten a little better in the last couple years about not punishing teams quite so much for expected losses, but who knows. The tricky spot is that Michigan will have picked up a pretty good win, so I suspect FSU would slide behind Michigan, but was Michigan's win so good that they could leapfrog a couple teams ahead of them? Not sure.

My supposition here is that it has a LOT to do with the scores and what the former chair of the CFP ranking committee called "game control".
In your projections #1 Bama beat #3 FSU 31-22 and you don't give a score for #9 Michigan over #16 Florida. If Bama scores a late TD to make a highly competitive 24-22 game into a 31-22 win while Michigan beats Florida in the final seconds or OT then I don't think that Michigan will (or should) pass FSU. On the other hand, if FSU scores two late TD's to turn a 31-8 blowout into a superficially respectable 31-22 loss while Michigan beats the tar out of the Gators then I think Michigan will (and should) pass FSU.
The score factor is also relevant for the other teams involved in the higher rankings:
- #2 Ohio State will be expected to beat Indiana rather handily on Thursday night.
- #4 USC will be expected to beat WMU rather handily on Saturday.
- #5 Clemson will be expected to beat Kent rather handily on Saturday.
- #6 Penn State will be expected to beat Akron rather handily on Saturday.
- #7 Washington will be expected to beat Rutgers rather handily on Friday although the game is in New Jersey so Washington would get some leeway based on the travel.
- #8 Oklahoma will be expected to beat UTEP rather handily on Saturday.
- #10 Wisconsin will be expected to beat Utah State rather handily on Friday.
- #11 OkSU will be expected to beat Tulsa rather handily on Thursday.
Note that all of the teams mentioned are hosting except Bama/FSU (neutral, Atlanta), Mich/FL (neutral, Texas), Ohio State (at Indiana), and Washington (at Rutgers). At least one will likely have a close call and drop for it.

Don't be surprised if PSU has a hangover game with Akron. The Zips have an excellent coaching staff.

Rough day for the B1G-W!
With MSU losing to WMU and Rutgers losing to EMU, not a banner day for the East either.
Although throw in CMU over Kansas, and it might be the best Saturday ever for Directional Michigan, going 3-0 against P5 schools

I can't find your ranking of all teams (was that on the old board?) but IIRC you ranked UNL and MN #3&4 or 3&5 in the B1G-W while you had RU last and MSU pretty low in the B1G-E.
Losses to Directional Michigan are still bad, but two of the worst teams in the league losing to Directional Michigan seems less troubling to me than two midling teams.

I have a bad feeling about the Wyoming-Iowa game. The same sort of bad feeling I had going into the NDSU-Iowa game in 2016.
-
Poll changes, week 1 (9/5) to week 2 (9/10):
- Michigan, FSU, UW, OkSU, and LSU are all up one each while Oklahoma is down five.
- UGA, LVille, Miami, KSU, and VaTech are up two each.
- Auburn and Stanford are down five each.
- Utah drops out, replaced by Colorado.
- WSU is up one.

Projecting. Will be interesting if they do go with the best game this week (Clemson-Louisville), or the solid but lesser games, that have better intangibles (Miami-FSU or USC-Texas)
They've already done FSU, and they seem to not like Pac 12 locations due to the early start, particularly USC.

Can Butch Jones and Todd Graham survive 1-2 starts? The fans are already grumbling.

Same question goes for Mora at UCLA.

Per RTF above, week one is officially set. Even if it weren't, it seems beyond obvious. You can't pass up #1 v #3 especially when the only other ranked v ranked game is #9 v #16.
I think week 2 is pretty obvious as well. Unless one or both of tOSU and OU suffer enormous upsets in week #1 the Oklahoma at Ohio State game will be a top-10 matchup and the next best are good (better than week #1) but nowhere near THAT good.
By the time you get to week #3 there are a lot more variables. Not only do you have to consider the possibility of upsets but you also have to consider that a top-10 team that starts out with two close calls against inferior opponents is going to drop even at 2-0.

if clemson/louis are both undefeated, that could be a top 10 matchup, but more likely top5/15. then again, usc/texas could be a top5v15 type matchup too.
personally, i'd prefer usc/texas, but either will likely be solid choice.
don't see miami/fsu unless the other 2 above fall apart from losses or something.
-
also don't think they'd pick bama after week 1, but that week looks so weak and it's few and far between when they get to go to nashville, so maybe.

Yeah, if it was in Tuscaloosa, I think they'd go to Bolder, but I think they take the chance to go to Nashville.
-
Could also be one of those weekends where they do an off-the-wall location.

Could also be one of those weekends where they do an off-the-wall location.
That's my other thought. Also if Vandy doesn't upset KSU, it doesn't matter anyway.
As far as "odd" locations go that week? They could finally throw WSU their bone. Texas A&M-Arkansas in JerryWorld. Navy is at home, they always like military locations.

Any cool Ivy games that weekend?

I'm not saying I disagree because I don't, but this will really highlight that gulf between the top-4 in the B1G and the rest. We have three of the top-5 and four of the top-8. Both of those are amazing. But there are no other ranked teams and the next best (by record) are:
- 3-0 Northwestern (projected to lose to UW this week)
- 3-1 Iowa (projected to beat MSU this week)
- 3-1 Nebraska (projected to beat Illinois this week)
- 3-1 Indiana (projected to lost to PSU this week)
- 2-1 Minnesota (projected to beat Maryland this week)
- 2-1 Maryland (projected to lose to Minnesota this week)
Iowa, Nebraska, or the Minnesota/Maryland winner might sneak in to the top-25 at 4-1 or 3-1 but this projects that as of late September we'll have four playoff contenders and 10 bad teams.

wish i had the old site thread with all of you guys complaining about sec bias when they had 3 of top 5 in the bcs or cfp poll in the middle of the season a few years back.
4 of the top 7 is less strong evidence of bias when you also have like 4 of the top 40. When it's 4 of 7 and 7 of 20, that's different.
IIRC that was more the complaint, not how high the top teams were ranked but how high the middle, even low middle teams were, so that no matter who you played it was a "good" win/loss so temas could never drop, because even playing the 9th best team in the conference was a ranked opponent.
-
Yeah, wasn't there 9 in the top-25 at one point a few years ago?

Looking at the B12 and B1G teams in your projected October 1 Poll it strikes me that the OU/tOSU game is VASTLY more important to the Sooners and the B12 than it is to the Buckeyes and the B1G:
From the perspective of the Buckeyes: If the Buckeyes were to lose to OU then you could probably roughly trade places between Ohio State and Oklahoma. A #14 ranked 3-1 Ohio State, would still be very much in the playoff picture with opportunities to prove themselves against #3 PSU, #4 Michigan, and #7 Wisconsin.
From the perspective of the B1G: There would still be two teams in the top-4, another very close, and a fourth close enough to get in. Moreover, if any other B1G team were to win the conference they would get major rankings boosts from wins over some of those teams so the B1G would still be VERY involved in the CFP race.
From the perspective of the Sooners: They have only the OkSU game to improve their profile but they'll still need help. With the loss to Ohio State they will likely find themselves behind the B1G Champion in the CFP pecking order either because it is the Ohio State team that they lost to or because it is a team that beat Ohio State. They'll also likely be behind the SEC and ACC Champions which leaves them needing the P12 Champion to be a weak team.
From the perspective of the B12: They are basically out of the CFP conversation unless/until the higher ranked conference leaders get beat.
-
4 of the top 7 is less strong evidence of bias when you also have like 4 of the top 40. When it's 4 of 7 and 7 of 20, that's different.
IIRC that was more the complaint, not how high the top teams were ranked but how high the middle, even low middle teams were, so that no matter who you played it was a "good" win/loss so temas could never drop, because even playing the 9th best team in the conference was a ranked opponent.
except they had legitimate arguments for those rankings. not that the b1g teams in yours don't/wouldn't, they would as well. and why couldn't 3 of top 5, 4 of top 10, or 7-8-9 of top 25 be from one conference? it's not impossible nor is it unreasonable. unlikely, maybe, but not unreasonable and almost certainly not conspiratorial.
but mostly i'm just busting some chops here. hell, with the results here, i'd expect at least 2-3 of neb, minn, iowa, nw to be in the top 25 somewhere, and the other(s) to be near the top of the also receiving votes.
-
feel free to complain about the new Big Ten bias
crazy ESPN is at fault
nah, i think it's the contract they have with ela to run the "tournament" (cough cough**rigged**cough cough) at the end of the season.

would think wsu would be ranked higher. they have 2 wins vs otherwise undefeated teams in usc and colorado, both top15 currently and were top 10 at game time. still have 1 loss #11 wash and #13 stanford as well. that's a tough schedule if it plays out that way.

I'm getting way less upsets and I think it's because conferences are waiting to announce more night games now too, and that used to be a spot I'd look for prime upset games.

Based on ELA's predictions, heading into the Nov 11 games:
- UMD, MSU, RU, and IU are all eliminated because none of them can do better than 5-4.
- Ohio State is 6-0 and has a H2H win over PSU. With three games to go the Buckeyes can lose either of the first two so long as they beat Michigan they'll do no worse than a tie with PSU and they'll win the tie.
- Michigan is 5-1 and has a H2H loss to PSU. They need to win out and hope for either a PSU loss or for Ohio State to win their other two games to create a three-way 8-1 tie where all three were 1-1 against each other. The ultimate tie-breaker in that case would be random draw.
- Penn State is 5-1 and has a H2H loss to Ohio State AND an H2H win over Michigan. They need two Ohio State losses or to win the random draw in the event of a three-way 8-1/1-1 tie with Ohio State and Michigan.

Wisconsin (6-0) 9-0
Northwestern (4-2) 7-2
Minnesota (4-2) 6-3
Iowa (3-3) 6-3
Nebraska (3-3) 5-4
Illinois (1-5) 2-7
Purdue (1-5) 2-7
Based on ELA's predictions, heading into the November 11 games:
- Illinois and Purdue are eliminated because they can do no better than 4-5 while Wisconsin can do no worse than 6-3.
- Nebraska is 3-3. They can do no better than a tie with Wisconsin and they would lose a two-way tie with Wisconsin due to their H2H loss to the Badgers. Thus, they need to win out (@MN, @PSU, vIA) and they need the Badgers to lose out (vIA, vM, @MN), and they need a team that they have a H2H win over to also finish 6-3 and no team to finish 7-2.
- Iowa is 3-3. They can do no better than a tie with Wisconsin but they would win the two-way tie because it can only happen if they win out (@UW, vPU, @UNL) and Wisconsin loses out (vIA, vM, @MN). They would also need no team to finish 7-2 and no team that beat them to finish 6-3.
- Northwestern is 4-2. They have a H2H loss to Wisconsin. They would need to win out and hope for Wisconsin to lose twice.
- Minnesota is 4-2. They control their own destiny because winning out (vUNL, @NU, vUW) would get them to 7-2 and no worse than a tie with Wisconsin and they would win the tie.
- Wisconsin is 6-0 and in pretty good shape. As long as they win two of their last three they win the Division. Even if they only finish 1-2 they would do no worse than a tie with the Minnesota/Northwestern winner but they could lose that tie. If the finish 0-3 they'll need help but they'll still be in the mix.

Ohio State (7-0) 10-0
Michigan (6-1) 9-1
Penn State (6-1) 9-1
Maryland (2-5) 4-6
Indiana (1-6) 4-6
Michigan State (1-6) 2-8
Rutgers (1-6) 2-8
Heading into the final two games (per ELA's predictions) it would be down to the Big three as all of the others are long-since mathematically eliminated. What each would need:
Ohio State:
- Beat Michigan. With a win over the Wolverines the Buckeyes would finish no worse than tied with PSU and would win the tie.
- Beat Illinois and lose to Michigan and Michigan loses to Wisconsin and Penn State loses to either Nebraska or Maryland. It is obvously a long shot but in that scenario the Buckeyes would tie PSU and win that tie.
- Lose to both Illinois and Michigan and get a whole lot of help. Losing the last two the Buckeyes would need Michigan to lose their other game (@UW) and for Penn State to lose to Nebraska and beat Maryland. All of that would create a three-way tie in which the tied teams were 1-1 against each other. The three would also be 5-1 in the division with the second loss for each being to a B1G-W team (UW for Michigan, UNL for PSU, and ILL for tOSU). That would be decided by random draw.
Michigan:
- Win out and hope for a PSU loss or to win the Random Draw. At 8-1 they would win a tie with Ohio State but lose a tie with Penn State so they would need either a PSU loss or for Ohio State to beat Illinois and then to win the random draw with all three at 8-1.
- Lose to Wisconsin, beat Ohio State, and for PSU to lose at least one game, preferably to Maryland. PSU's loss to Maryland would knock them out based on divisional record and Michigan would beat tOSU based on H2H.
Penn State:
- Win out and hope for at least one Ohio State loss, preferably to Illinois.

Purdue (1-6) 2-8
Heading into the last two games the West would be down to just Wisconsin and Minnesota. If you want to know why Northwestern is eliminated, here it is:
- In order to catch Wisconsin they have to win out. That requires beating Minnesota and Illinois.
- They also need Wisconsin to lose out (vM, @MN).
- The problem is that Northwestern's win over Minnesota would knock Minnesota out of contention such that the best Northwestern could do is a two-way tie with Wisconsin and they lost to Wisconsin so they lose that tie.
What each team needs:
Wisconsin:
- Either win one of their last two games (vM, @MN) or
- Minnesota to lose either of their last two games (@NU, vMN).
Minnesota:
- Win out (@NU, vUW), AND
- Wisconsin to lose their other game (vM).

Based on ELA's predictions the B1GCG would be set before the final week's games.
In the East:
The worst Ohio State can do is a tie with PSU at 8-1 and the Buckeyes beat the Lions so the Buckeyes are headed for Indianapolis.
In the West:
Wisconsin will be outright champions no matter what. The worst they can do is 8-1 and no other team can match that.

The other P5 CG's based on ELA's predictions:
ACC:
Florida State has clinched the Atlantic Division.
The Coastal Division is MUCH more complicated:
- Miami (FL) has the inside track at 6-1 but they travel to Pittsburgh to play the Panthers in the last week.
- If Miami wins, they face FSU in the ACCCG.
- If Miami loses they, Pitt, and GaTech will all finish 6-2. Additionally, VaTech will also finish 6-2 if they beat Virginia (should be easy). Thus, if Miami loses there will be either a three-way or a four-way tie atop the ACC-Coastal. The first tiebreaker is H2H2H (or H2H2H2H) as the case may be. In the four-way tie Miami would be 2-1 (wins over GaTech and VaTech, loss to Pitt). I didn't check the rest.
Big12:
There are no divisions in the Big12, instead the top two teams go to the CG. Oklahoma State would already have clinched as they could do no worse than a tie for first. Kansas State would already have clinched the second spot because they could do no worse than a tie for second with Oklahoma at 7-2 and back in week-8 ELA predicted that Kansas State would beat Oklahoma.
PAC 12:
North:
Stanford would already have clinched because they could do no worse than a tie with WSU and ELA predicted that Stanford would beat WSU.
South:
Colorado would already have clinched because they could do no worse than a tie with USC and ELA predicted that Colorado would beat USC.
SEC:
East:
Florida would already have clinched.
West:
Alabama and Auburn would be playing for the SEC-W berth in the SECCG. This could get really interesting because if Bama were to lose to Auburn they would be in a similar situation to what Ohio State was in last year. They would finish 11-1 and a co-Division Champion but with no CG. They would also have a win over an ACC Divisional Champion and potential ACC Champ (FSU) much like Ohio State, last year, had a win over a P5 Champion (Oklahoma). Additionally, if Bama were to lose to Auburn it would be on the road and, like Penn State last year, the Tigers would have both an OOC loss (@Clemson) and a conference loss (@LSU).
The CFP implications get really interesting:
Alabama (@Auburn) and Florida (vFSU) would essentially be playing 1/8th finals for the NC because for either of them the path to the NC is very clear:
- Beat rival (Auburn/FSU) "1/8th final"
- Win SECCG "quarterfinal"
- Win CFP semi-final
- Win CFP Championship
However, if Florida and Bama were both to lose the SEC's playoff hopes would be somewhat tenuous. Alabama would finish with the best record (11-1/7-1) but the Florida/Auburn winner would be the SEC Champion with a record of 11-2. Meanwhile, the Seminoles picking up a HUGE quality win on the road against the Gators would bolster their chances but they'd still be a two-loss team.
-
FSU vs. Miami for the ACC title??
Who woulda thunk it back in 2003?
-
CFP view heading into the final week based on ELA's predictions:
- Bama is in good shape, but they would need a LOT of help if they lost to Auburn and a not insignificant amount of help if they lost the SECCG to Florida.
- Ohio State could probably afford a loss to Michigan so long as they went on to win the B1GCG. Losing to Wisconsin, however, would knock the Buckeyes out.
- Wisconsin, much like Ohio State, could probably afford a loss to Minnesota so long as they went on to win the B1GCG. Wisconsin's case would be marginally weaker because their best OOC win would be BYU which is probably not as good as Ohio State's OOC win over Oklahoma. Additionally, Wisconsin would not play Penn State while Ohio State would.
- Oklahoma State: The Cowboy's OOC of Tulsa, SoBama, and Pitt doesn't afford them much room for error. They would probably need to win out (vKU, B12CG) to get to the CFP.
- Stanford is in good shape because either #2 or #3 will have to lose. So long as Stanford wins out (vND, P12CG) they are in.
- Penn State is in a tough spot. I can't see how they could pass the B1G Champion. Even if Ohio State (@M) and Wisconsin (vMN) both lose their final game the tOSU/UW winner would still have a better record than PSU, a Championship, and (if it is Ohio State) a H2H win.
- Miami may seem out of it here but they most certainly are not. If they were to win out (@Pitt, vFSU in ACCCG) they would finish 12-1 with an ACC Championship. That easily gets them ahead of PSU and the tOSU/UW loser. At that point all they need is for Bama, OkSU, or Stanford to lose and they are likely in.
- Colorado is still very much alive. If they were to win out (@Utah, vStanford in P12CG) that would at least get them ahead of PSU, Stanford, and the tOSU/UW loser. Then all they need is for Bama, OkSU, or Miami to lose and they are likely in.
- Florida State could be alive, it depends. They would likely get a lot of credit for the OOC loss to Bama especially if they balanced it out by beating the other SEC Divisional Champion in their regular season finale. Two losses hurts but it helps to have highly ranked opponents (#1 Bama, #7 Miami (probably twice), #11 Florida, #13 Clemson, #17 LVille). That would be a LOT of SoS credit.
- Washington State is effectively out because they can't get to the P12CG and I can't see a PAC12 non-Champion leap-frogging enough teams to get there.
- Florida is very much alive. Per ELA's predictions the Gators started out with a loss to (now) #12 Michigan and they are now on a 10-game winning streak. What really gives them a chance is that their last two games are v#9FSU and (likely) v#1Bama. If they close out their season with back-to-back top-10 wins, 12 straight wins, and an SEC Championship they are absolutely in.
- Michigan is effectively out because they can't get to their CG and a 2-loss non-Champion is not going to the CFP.
- Clemson, see Michigan.
- USF, not happening in a year like what ELA has predicted here where there are still four P5 undefeated teams and an additional six 1-loss P5 teams this late in the season.
- USC, see Michigan.
- Washington, see Michigan.
- Louisville, see Michigan.
- Auburn is interesting. At #18 and with two losses they seem hopeless but if they win out (v#1Bama, v#11Florida) they would be in the mix, particularly if Florida took out FSU before losing to the Tigers. As an 11-2 SEC Champion with back-to-back wins over Bama and Florida they would move up a LOT. I think they would still need help though and their biggest problem might be Bama. I'm not sure that they would pass Bama. Even with a loss to Auburn the Tide would still have a better record, a MUCH stronger OOC win and, unlike Auburn no OOC losses. That sounds familiar from somewhere . . .
- KSU can win the B12 but they can't make the CFP.
- GaTech might have a mathematical shot at the ACC Championship but they don't have a practical chance at the CFP.
- VaTech, see GaTech.
- Northwestern, see Michigan.
- Tennessee, see Michigan only with an additional loss.
- Oklahoma, see Tennessee.
- LSU, see Tennessee.

WEEK 13
Saturday, November 25
ESPN College Gameday, live from Auburn, AL
#18 Auburn 24, #1 Alabama 23
#12 MICHIGAN d. #2 OHIO STATE
It is interesting that I think Alabama's loss is MUCH more devastating than Ohio State's. The CG's based on these predictions:
ACC:
Miami (11-1) v Florida State (9-3)
Big12:
Oklahoma State (12-0) v Kansas State (10-2)
B1G:
Ohio State (11-1) v Wisconsin (12-0)
Pac12:
Stanford (11-1) v Colorado (11-1)
SEC:
Florida (11-1) v Auburn (10-2)
-
Playoff spots:
IMHO, the surest bets are the potential undefeated P5 Champions:
- If Wisconsin wins the B1GCG they finish 13-0 and obviously in.
- If OkSU wins the B12CG they finish 13-0 and obviously in.
The next best bets are the potential 1-loss P5 Champions:
- If Miami wins the ACCCG they are 12-1
- If Ohio State wins the B1GCG they are 12-1 (this would also prevent Wisconsin from finishing 13-0)
- The Stanford/Colorado winner will be 12-1
- If Florida wins the SECCG they are 12-1
Because Ohio State and Wisconsin play each other, only five of those six things can happen. However, five is one more than the four available playoff spots so there is still a possibility that a 12-1 P5 Champion could be left out.
-
Medina's theory of what happens if we do end up with five undefeated or one-loss P5 Champions:
First, in order for this to happen:
- OkSU needs to beat KSU in the B12CG, and
- Miami needs to beat FSU in the ACCCG, and
- Florida needs to beat Auburn in the SECCG
Second, I am further assuming that Ohio State beats Wisconsin in the B1GCG. The reason for this assumption is simply because it makes the question more interesting. A 13-0 Wisconsin is in no questions asked. A 12-1 Ohio State is in the discussion.
Thus, the P5 Champions would be:
- ACC: 12-1 Miami
- B12: 13-0 Oklahoma State
- B1G: 12-1 Ohio State
- Pac12: 12-1 either Colorado or Stanford
- SEC: 12-1 Florida
IMHO, OkSU is obviously in. They have a relatively weak OOC, but they are the only undefeated team.
That leaves four 12-1 P5 Champions for three spots. IMHO, the team left out would be either Colorado or Miami and I'm basing that almost solely on OOC SoS:
- Miami's OOC is Bethune-Cookman, Arkansas State, Toledo
- Ohio State's is UNLV, Army, Oklahoma
- Colorado's is Colorado State, Texas State, Northern Colorado
- Stanford's is Rice, SDSU, Notre Dame
- Florida's is UAB, Northern Colorado, Michigan
Ohio State (Oklahoma), Florida (Michigan), and Stanford (Notre Dame) each have one reasonably respectable OOC opponent. Miami and Colorado do not.
-
Florida also plays Florida State. Tough schedule.
-
In my last post I analyzed what would happen if we had the maximum (five) undefeated or one-loss P5 Champions. In this post I'll do the opposite and analyze what would happen if we had the minimum (two) undefeated or one-loss P5 Champions:
First, in order for this to happen:
- Florida State (9-3) needs to beat Miami (11-1) in the ACCCG
- Kansas State (10-2) needs to beat OkSU (12-0) in the B12CG
- Auburn (10-2) needs to beat Florida (11-1) in the SECCG
Second, I am further assuming that Ohio State beats Wisconsin in the B1GCG. The reason for this assumption is simply because it makes the question more interesting. An 11-2 Ohio State coming off of two-straight losses is not in the discussion while a 12-1 Wisconsin is.
IMHO the Pac12CG winner is in. This would be either 12-1 Colorado or 12-1 Stanford. Additionally the B1GCG winner would be in with no regard to whether it was 12-1 Ohio State or 13-0 Wisconsin. After that it gets really dicey. The contenders:
- 10-3 ACC Champion Florida State
- 11-2 B12 Champion Kansas State
- 11-2 SEC Champion Auburn
- 11-1 Bama
- 12-1 B1GCG loser Wisconsin
IMHO it would be Bama and probably Wisconsin (provided that Wisconsin put up a good fight in their CG). The ACC and B12 would be out and the B1G would be the first conference to put two teams in the CFP. However, I would alter this prediction if either:
- Auburn thoroughly dominated Florida in the SECCG, or
- Ohio State thoroughly dominated Wisconsin in the B1GCG.
FWIW: If you alter the assumptions and assume that Wisconsin wins the B1G then I think the playoff field would likely be:
- 13-0 B1G Champion Wisconsin
- 12-1 P12 Champion (Colorado/Stanford)
- 11-1 Alabama
- 11-2 SEC Champion Auburn
In that case I would expect the Auburn/Wisconsin winner to play Bama in the NC.
-
Florida also plays Florida State. Tough schedule.
Easily the toughest of the group. They absolutely are in as a 12-1 SEC Champion.

I'm anxious to see how you project the lost poll before the CG's with all the losses you project in the final week:
- #1 Alabama losing at #18 Auburn
- #2 Ohio State losing at #12 Michigan
- #9 Florida State losing at #11 Florida
- #10 Washington State losing at #16 Washington
Obviously #11 Florida (now 11-1 and on an 11 game winning streak) will move up considerably.
#12 Michigan will also move up as well but with two losses they'll hit a ceiling long before the Gators.
#16 Washington is similar to Michigan with the two losses and beating #10 WSU isn't as impressive as beating #2 tOSU.
#18 Auburn (now 10-2) has the most impressive win of the weekend (season?) but similar to Michigan they have two losses so they will hit a ceiling.
With their losses to rivals Alabama and Ohio State join the 1-loss club along with Stanford, PSU, Miami, Colorado, and Florida. How far will they fall? They both still have some impressive wins on their resumes.
Florida State's loss makes them very hard to rank. They will be a 9-3 team but the three losses were to Bama, Clemson (IIRC), and Florida so we are talking about losses to very good teams.
What to do with Auburn? The Bama win is great but losses to #25 LSU and #13 Clemson hold them back. How far can they climb?
My projection based on these projections (what I think would happen not necessarily what I think should happen):
- Wisconsin (12-0)
- Oklahoma State (12-0)
- Stanford (11-1)
- Florida (11-1)
- Alabama (11-1)
- Ohio State (11-1)
- Penn State (11-1)
- Auburn (10-2)
- Michigan (10-2)
- Miami (11-1)
- Colorado (11-1)
- Florida State (9-3)
- Clemson (10-2)
- South Florida (12-0)
- Washington (10-2)
- Washington State (10-2)
- USC (10-2)
- Louisville (10-2)
- Kansas State (10-2)
- GaTech (10-2)
- VaTech (10-2)
- Northwestern (10-2)
- Tennessee (9-3)
- Oklahoma (9-3)
- LSU (9-3)

ok st would be in, no question. undefeared p5 conf champ is in.
uf is in. 12-1 sec champ is in, especially considering ooc schedule
osu is in, imo. #5 beating #1 gets them in.
and stanford is in, imo. i'm not sure what game they lost, but they won at least 3 of wash, @ wash st, @ usc, colo (ccg), all of which are 10-win or better reg season.
miami schedule doesn't match up, imo, althought they do play fsu (x2), gt, and vt.
bama is out. not a champ.
seems like an awful lot of 0 and 1-loss teams this late. 9 p5 going into conf champ week. 10 counting usf, which would be ranked higher imo. good team.
edit: went and checked. wouldn't be that far fetched, though it would be highest amount since '12 (as far back as i went), but only by 1.

What do you do if Okie State, Stanford, OSU, Miami and Florida win?
Is Alabama out? Florida? OSU? Stanford? Miami?
Two of those 5 have to be out
IMHO (per my post above):
- Oklahoma State (undefeated P5 Champion)
- Florida (12-1 and on a 12-game winning streak with an OOC win over FSU)
- Stanford (12-1 P5 Champion with an OOC win over a decent but not great in this projection ND team)
- Ohio State (12-1 P5 Champion with an OOC win over a good (#24 in your projection) OU team)
Florida/Stanford winner plays Ohio State in the NC (this isn't an Ohio State thing, I'd say the same if OkSU was matched up with either UF or Stan).
Out:
- 11-1 Alabama: Not a good year to be an 11-1 non-champion. There are too many undefeated and 12-1 Champs.
- 12-1 Miami: OOC is a joke: Bethune-Cookman, Arkansas State, Toledo. That doesn't match up with UF, Ohio State, and Stanford (in that order).
-
This hasn't generated much discussion so I'll try it another way. Based on ELA's predictions here are my projected CFP teams (in order):
- Wisconsin (if they beat Ohio State)
- Oklahoma State (if they beat Kansas State)
- Stanford (if they beat Colorado)
- Florida (if they beat Auburn)
- Ohio State (if they beat Wisconsin)
- Miami (if they beat Florida State)
- Colorado (if they beat Stanford)
- Auburn (if they beat Florida)
- Alabama
-
IMHO, those nine teams are the only realistic CFP contenders heading into the CG's. [/size]Theory behind my projections:
- Wisconsin: If they win they are 13-0, B1G Champions and an obvious #1.
- Oklahoma State: If they win they are 13-0, B12 Champions, and obviously in.
- Stanford: If they win they are 12-1, P12 Champions, and obviously in.
- Florida: If they win they are 12-1, SEC Champions, and obviously in (probably ahead of Stanford in ranking as well).
- Ohio State: If they win it takes out Wisconsin which opens a spot for them. With a win they are 12-1, B1G Champions, and in.
- Miami: If they win they still need one of OkSU, Florida, or Stanford to lose because they would be behind the B1G Champion and those three teams (if they all win).
- Colorado: If they win it takes out Stanford which moves them up a spot. They still need one of OkSU, UF, or Miami to lose because they would be behind the B1G Champion and those three teams (if they all win).
- Auburn: If they win it takes out Florida which moves them up a spot. They still need one of OkSU or Miami to lose because they would be behind the B1G Champion, the P12 Champion and those two teams (if they both win).
- Alabama: Not playing on CCG Saturday hurts because they can't do anything to help their cause. They need OkSU and Miami to lose because they will be behind the B1G Champion, the SEC Champion, the P12 Champion, and both of those teams (if they both win).

Interesting playoff field:
Playoff:
- 13-0 Oklahoma State
- 12-1 Stanford
- 12-1 Ohio State
- 11-2 Auburn
Out:
- 10-3 ACC Champion Florida State (with losses to Bama, Florida, and Clemson)
- 11-1 Alabama
- 12-1 Wisconsin
- 11-1 Penn State
There is a strong argument for Alabama, Wisconsin, or Penn State over Auburn.
-
UW doesn't have the schedule to argue, unless somehow BYU, USU and Lanie Kiffie show to be strong this season.
-
bama doesn't either. almost same scenario with osu/psu last year. don't think they'll take the team with no conf champ and a loss to the conf champ, but 1 less loss, this time.
-

It's the exact same thing. Bama is 11-1 with a really good OOC win (FSU) but a head to head loss and no CCG appearance. Auburn is 11-2 with a conference title, no good OOC win.
Committee already showed who they take in that scenario.

It's the exact same thing. Bama is 11-1 with a really good OOC win (FSU) but a head to head loss and no CCG appearance. Auburn is 11-2 with a conference title, no good OOC win.
Committee already showed who they take in that scenario.
It is certainly very similar but I don't think it is exactly the same because Bama's OOC win isn't quite as good as tOSU's last year and Auburn's losses aren't nearly as bad as PSU's last year:
- Ohio State's big OOC win last year was against a team that went undefeated in their P5 Conference. Ohio State also beat Oklahoma big, 45-24 and in a true road game. I think that Bama's FSU win in this scenario isn't quite as good because: 1) You do NOT have FSU going undefeated in their conference. 2) Bama's win is closer (31-22 vs 45-24) and at a "neutral" site that will HEAVILY favor Bama.
- Penn State's OOC loss last year was to a Pitt team that was 8-4 when the final rankings were made. That is substantially worse than Auburn's OOC loss to the defending National Champion Clemson Tigers who you have going 10-2.
- You don't provide score predictions for non-gameday games but I have to assume that you are not predicting that Auburn will lose to LSU by anything like the 49-10 blowout by Michigan over Penn State last year.

It is certainly very similar but I don't think it is exactly the same because Bama's OOC win isn't quite as good as tOSU's last year and Auburn's losses aren't nearly as bad as PSU's last year:

plus people feel osu was wrong team after the clemson beatdown. not sure committee will cave to pressure, but they'd be under a lot of it if this happened. i don't think they'd take bama. jmo.

It would be a heck of an interesting debate and there is no doubt that the Ohio State / Penn State precedent would be brought up by both sides.
Stipulate the following:
- OkSU, Stanford, and Ohio State are clearly in as undefeated or 1-loss P5 Champions.
- The ACC Champion (FSU) is clearly out because they have three losses.
- The other two-loss non-champions clearly are not getting in ahead of a 2-loss Champion or a 1-loss non-Champion.
Thus you have four contenders for one spot. Using ELA's projected final rankings, their record against ranked teams is (tell me if I missed any):
- 12-1 B1GCG loser Wisconsin: Lost to #3 Ohio State, Beat #8 Michigan, Beat #21 Northwestern
- 11-1 non-Champion Alabama: Lost to #5 Auburn, Beat #9 FSU, Beat #23 Tennessee, Beat #25 LSU
- 11-1 non-Champion Penn State: Lost to #3 Ohio State, Beat #8 Michigan, Beat #21 Northwestern
- 11-2 SEC Champion Auburn: Beat #4 Alabama, Beat #10 Florida, Lost to #11 Clemson, Lost to #25 LSU
IMHO, Auburn has the toughest SoS. Wisconsin and Penn State have three ranked opponents each. Bama and Auburn have four.
I think based on the SoS I think that Wisconsin and Penn State are eliminated. They are very similar to Bama but with worse SoS.
That leaves just Auburn and Bama. Comparing the two:
- They played each other (roughly a wash)
- They both played LSU (call it a wash)
- They each played a highly ranked Florida School in Atlanta: #9 FSU for Bama, #10 UF for Auburn (call it a wash)
- Bama's other ranked opponent was #23 Tennessee.
- Auburn's other ranked opponent was #11 Clemson.
I'd give it to Auburn because:
- They are the SEC Champion, and
- They won the H2H, and
- They had the tougher schedule.
Last year PSU had two of the three but that wasn't enough because:
- Their losses were really bad (Pitt because of the opponent, Michigan because of the score).
- They clearly and obviously did NOT play a tougher schedule.

BOWL SCHEDULE
Monday, January 1
ROSE - #2 Stanford (12-1) vs. #3 OHIO STATE (12-1)
I absolutely love that it works out this way! The classic B1G Champ vs PAC Champ Rose Bowl with the added twist that the winner gets to play Alabama for the National Championship!
-
I think as long as it's mildly plausible the committee will try and get that to happen. In this case, I think it's obvious what the top 3 will be, and it just so happens to work out.

Definitely obvious that OkSU is #1 and Stanford/Ohio State are 2/3. You could argue over #2 but it only determines which colors the teams wear in the RB.
#4 is the BIG DEBATE in this scenario.
